I've been a loyal customer of this restaurant for over 15 years. During the pandemic, I noticed that prices went up, which is understandable, but they've continued to increase even after the pandemic. What's more disappointing is that the portion sizes have noticeably gotten smaller. I always order the combination pho, and recently, I've been finding just a quarter of a meatball, three small pieces of brisket, and not much else. 3.5 stars I've been to the Torrance location many times and one big difference between these two is....THIS ONE DOESN'T SMELL LIKE DIRTY WET TOWELS! It's hard to enjoy a nice hot bowl of Pho with that stench. Come here instead. I ordered the Pho Tai Nam (S) and there were generous amounts of tender well done flank steak and noodles. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2017 - PART 3: 100/100 (PART 3 CHALLENGE: COMPLETE! Triple YAY, ME!) It was time to pick up from where I left of with my search for good Banh Xeo. I've found 3 places in my 'hood who make it. This place was stop #2. After running a few errands with my Mom, I suggested we try this place. She's a pho fiend, and she's also one to try new places, so she was agreeable. There are a few parking spots on the lot. We luckily found one right up front. Walked in and was told to sit where we preferred. The booth right in front of the cashier was open so we took that. Tons of choices on their menu. Mom went for #8 Pho Tai Nam - the same kind she gets at her usual Pho joint (she wanted to compare.) With tunnel vision, I ordered the Banh Xeo (to share) as well as the deep fried fish filet with yellow rice and side salad. About 10 minutes before the crepe arrived at our table. It was made to order hot with a really nice presentation. Mom decided she wanted room for her Pho, so she decided to pass on the app. But I was on a mission, so I gave it a couple of minutes to cool off before that first bite. I did my thing - got leaves, placed mint, pickled radish and carrots, got a piece of the crepe + pork, shrimp and sprouts, wrapped it all up, dunked it on the dip, and.... ... boy, that crepe was greasy. (No wonder it wasn't that crispy!) Ooof, that was a lotta oil dripping off my hand; so much, in fact, that little piece of it I was holding broke apart so easily. I tried another bite, but the oil was just too much. The sensation of it coating my taste buds easily overpowered the flavor of the crepe itself. Needless to say, I set the rest aside. Mom's Pho arrived not too long after. She ordered a small so it came in a small bowl. She got a side of sprouts, jalapenos and mint. She also asked for a side of onions. After watching her do her combo, I asked how it was. She said the broth came off a little sweet. Although I'm not a Pho fiend, I've had my share, so I took a couple of sips to see what she meant - and she was right. It literally was sweeter than the usual broth we'd get at other places. She also noticed there wasn't a lot of flank or steak. Overall, she said it was "okay." (The kind of "okay" she gives when she really meant she prefers the other place.) After washing my hands off that Banh Xeo oily mess, I tackled my deep fried fish filet. Like the crepe, it was made to order super-hot! (By its taste, I could tell it was catfish.) This one is a hit - the breading was thin and crispy, and the filet was juicy and flaky fresh. I felt it needed a bit more seasoning, but once I dunked it in the dip it came with, the bite was complete. I hardly touched the rice and salad. Service can use some improvement. As previously mentioned, we were seated in front of the cashier. Yeah, there were 3 of their staff members no more than 5 feet away from us, but they were busy chit-chatting with each other - too busy to notice we needed refills on our water. But they're pretty quick to respond once you (successfully) flag them. It's the fish that did the experience for me. Everything else was nothing more than mediocre. Popped into this small pho shop looking for some late night noodles (they're open until midnight Thursday-Sunday). There's minimal parking around the side of the restaurant, and a good amount of booths and tables set up inside. There were only two guys running the show, so it took a while for us to receive menus and drinks. We settled on the crispy tofu and fried egg rolls. The egg rolls had mushrooms inside which was unexpected but not off-putting for me, and the tofu could've used more seasoning but paired well with the sauces they brought out. We were disappointed to find out they were out of the vegetarian broth, so we ordered one chicken pho and one beef pho. One thing I really appreciated was the portion size of the soup was huge, I could barely finish mine after the appetizers. This is a place I come for convenience when I'm hungry. The flavors is just ok, and it's kind of bland. It's missing something in the ingredients, maybe MSG, lol! My friend had the pork chop rice and he said it's bland and tasteless. It's salty but just tastless. We had to add a bunch of Siracha, and vinegar to give that flavor a push. I had the dry egg noodle, with soup on the side. It doesn't come with any marinated sauce so it's just pure bland. Pho was lukewarm when served. It's clean and servers are friendly and patience. Honestly, this is a very great spot to have soup on a cold day. Their soup is very delicious. I enjoyed this. I haven't tried anything else on the menu besides their egg rolls which are good too. I mean food wise is excellent, but the waiters and people who work there should work on their attitudes a bit more. I had my food delivered to me from this place since I was craving for pho badly. After ordering the pho and Chả giò I chowed down enjoying my meal but lo and behold after eating my second roll I bit into a rock... it was a decent size pebble and I have literally no idea how a damn rock got into my Chả giò. I always order from here because I love their broth and their Chả giò but after today I kind of don't want to eat pho for a long while. Luckily for me I didn't bite down too hard or else I would've broken one of my teeth. I already spoke to Doordash about this incident and has since then given my money back but its a scary thought that I could've had seriously injured myself if I was more careless about my chewing. I came here to have lunch a few days ago. I've been to their other location in Torrance, and figured this place would be alright. This place has a small parking lot, but I did not have an issue finding a spot. I walked in and sat down to check out my options. I ordered the pho, which now I see what my fellow Yelp elites are talking about. The pho is a little off in taste, and it is probably due to the sodium level. The customer service was ok, not lacking but nothing over the top. On the positive side, the place was clean and not impossibly packed for lunch time. I may come here to try their other dishes. Of course when trying out a place called Pho Consomme we had to have their manly size portion of Pho and when we saw that everyone was ordering the fish plate so we had to say what the heck. So can father and son scarf down two large bowls of Pho and a fried fish and rice plate for lunch? Bet cha we gave it a good try. On a cold afternoon there's nothing like a big hot bowl of Pho to hit the spot and Pho Consomme's Pho really did the trick. Big tasty and fill with plenty of Pho goodness. Then the fish came and we realized why this plate was in front of so many customer. Light and crispy batter on the outside and tender juicy fish on the inside. Served on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers with a generous scoop of rice. We ate till we popped. Next time? One of their spicy soups with again the fish. read more

This is a solid place, it's A-OKAY, a restaurant I'd patronize, come back again and also recommend. There's nothing unique about it (in my initial experience so far), so that's what prevents it from being * * * * or * * * * * which I have a rather different rating system than most and measure on several metrics, where a * * * is definitely a good and positive rating. The service here is friendly. It's also a clean restaurant. The food delivery was fast and the soup came out hot, cooked to order. Parking is easy when it's available (and it was), but admittedly I can see that the lot has limited space, but truth be told, the area itself isn't that hard to find street parking around. The food quality and quantity was good and fairly priced. For the area, to find Pho and not be in Garden Grove or the SGV and make a trek out of the South Bay it's a great option for Beach Cities residents to dine at. I'm not sure what the true difference between a regular size and a large size is since the price differential is less than $1, I'd be curious to measure if it's worthwhile (FYI - I opted for the large since it wasn't incrementally that much more in price). I know for the large I ordered it was enough for 2, meaning 2 meals, and I was able to take leftovers home, so from a "cost per meal" perspective you get a lot of bang for you buck. read more

I love Pho Consomme! I used to always go to Pho So 1 down the street from here, but I like Pho Consomme better. Service: The service is good most of the time. They have their moments where things are going slow or they don't notice that you need something, but I've never had a major problem with them. Food: Pho with rare steak: I really like it here. The pho tastes really good compared to other pho places. Shaking beef: My favorite dish from here. The beef is always tender and I love the sauce that they serve it in. Lots of garlic, black pepper and they mix it all with jalapenos and onions. Served with rice and salad. Scoop some of the sauce onto your rice and you'll taste all of the amazing flavors! Birds nest? That's what I call it. Crispy noodles topped with a combination of different meats/seafood/vegetables. The sauce looks light, but it's actually packed with great flavor. This dish is large enough that it can be shared with 2 people. Egg rolls: By far the best Vietnamese egg rolls that I've had. I always order this as an appetizer to start off the meal. They give 4 egg rolls so it can be shared with another person. A must try! Char grilled lemongrass chicken: The chicken doesn't have a strong lemongrass flavor, but I like it. Maybe it's because I'm not a huge fan of lemongrass. It's a great plate lunch to get. Char grilled pork: I love the flavor that's on the pork. It's not too strong, but you can tell they season or marinade it with something tasty. It tastes great with some of the chili and fish sauce. Crispy noodle! So this is a pho place, but I was never a big fan of pho, so leave it to me to crave this place for crispy noodles! It's a small little joint that stands alone, surrounded by a bunch of other asian dining establishments in the area. Nothing special about the place, okay decoration, small parking, okay interior and exterior. The service is pretty quick to get you seated and take your order. The order itself, if it isn't pho, takes quite a bit of time. It kind of sucks sometimes because they don't serve the party all the food at the same time. Anyway, I've tried their vermicelli bowls, they are decent. The egg rolls are okay, spring rolls are okay as well. I don't know what it is about the brown sugary flavor atop the crispy noodles that gets me though, it's just so good. Compared to the nearby Pho So 1, this place is so much better, cleaner and nicer. First of all, this place is not dirty. Its actually well maintained and cleaned among all the other pho restaurants I have gone to. Yes, it is a lot smaller but I personally like this place more. Ok maybe I should stop comparing. Anyway, I dont love pho but I dont hate it either. On the other hand, my boyfriend loves Pho. I think he eats at least once every week or so. He says this place has the best Pho Tai ever after all the other places he has gone. I dont really know Pho but I di like their pho too. Soup has really clean taste to it and not very oily and greasy. I always order rice plates like pork chop, charbroiled pork, that comes with shredded pork, egg paste and veggies with rice. Nice spot for pho--yummy broth and decent prices. Their shaking beef plate is delicious! Can't get over how flavorful the sauce is. Good spring rolls as well. Drink options include Thai tea and fresh young coconut water. I always just drink water. They have an extensive menu, but I pretty much stick to their pho or shaking beef. Their vermicelli looks good and lots of people order it. It's served with rice and garnished with a simple salad. Parking in front and back with plenty of seating inside. 4 solid stars. I was really excited to try this place. I ordered pho, egg noodles soup, ban xeo, and chicken and rice. My order came and had no banh xeo, only the egg noodles and no broth, and then to go with it, I got pho broth b ut no pho bowl of noodles or meat. So the only meal I really received was my chicken and rice. It's ok. It's chicken and rice, but the thing that really ruined the experience for me is that the pickled vegetables (my favorite) were old and tasted borderline rotten. I've been here a few times and it's always a good experience. The staff is super friendly and food is always good. Their price is very reasonable as well, one of the cheapest Vietnamese restaurants in the area for sure. I got their wonton with mixed seafood this time, as I've always ordered their pho and wanted to try something else on their menu. I was feeling a little under the weather and wanted something soupy. The soup was really good, great balance of flavors and it was packed with shrimp, imitation crab, chicken and squid along with veggies. It was perfect for when you're not feeling well and just need something warm in your belly! The only part it fell a little short was in the wonton, I believe it could have been better. PHO sure! On cold nights this is a place to go eat some Pho! The food is very good and they are quick to bring out your soup! I noticed the soup broth is slightly on the sweet side compared to other PHO places I tried. The parking is very small so be prepared to park down the street and walk. Inside is modern but seating is limited and it gets busy at times. I was not pleased with the waiters taking my order and forgetting some of the items I ordered. The soup comes out right away but if you order egg rolls or spring rolls they will forget or give it to some other table. This has happen to me three times. They are slow to refill your drinks and once you receive your food hard to have them come back to check on you or give you your bill. In conclusion, the food is good but the service at times sucks! Gone here several times. Great customer service. Parking plentiful. My standards for pho are high coming from 626, but for Gardena this place is fine if you need your pho/MSG fix.
