    Northern pho
    Nao I.

Had my doubts about an aesthetic social media vibe pho restaurant but it hits the spot! We had to try the northern style pho since they described it as having more of a spice flavor. I haven't tried their southern style to compare, but the broth is a deep and rich/spiced broth. I highly recommend the flat noodles since they're super soft and melts in your mouth. Meat is not fatty and is plentiful unlike some pho places and you won't be disappointed. We live near a couple of pho restaurants but will usually go out of our way to come to this one! Get some che a couple doors down for a complete meal :)

Was in the area and friends wanted to meet up to grab a bite and this place popped up on my Yelp. The stellar reviewed drew my attention and decided to give this place a try. (Also the nice modern decor). There's ample parking in a huge plaza with lots of other popular choices as all the spots I saw had long lines. They serve both northern style and southern style pho and took me a long minute to figure out the difference and realized I'm used to the southern pho and decided to order #7 northern pho special with side order of oxtail and am so happy I decided to give it a try. For starters their pho felt more like art than food. The attention to detail from the bowl of pho on the bottom to the condiment plate connected on top to the sauce plate on the very top. Also this is the first pho place that has grass fed beef and their soup is amazing. I also ordered a side of oxtail which was pretty good. And because I had my toddler with me, she got a free kid bowl of pho. Overall: service amazing, pho amazing im a fan :) the service was really above and beyond. Oh one last amazing thing, you get to keep the sweet basil and the bottle that comes w it as your plant. They will even refill the bottle to your satisfaction. The person that opened this spot up really put a lot of thought into this. I'm impressed!

They don't accept cash! This pho place is very good. I really enjoyed my pho. I got filet mignon, brisket, and tendon in my southern style broth pho. They offer northern style broth too, but I prefer the southern style since it's lighter and less fatty. The meat they use is very high quality. I liked how hot the broth was and how hot it stayed throughout my meal even after adding the fresh raw veggies. For $15, they surely packed a lot of meat in the pho. I will definitely return.

Came to Pho Flavor and really enjoyed it. Ordered the pho with northern style broth, southern style noodles, brisket, flank, and filet mignon, as well as the seafood eggrolls. The pho was served in this unique double layered pot - broth and noodles on the bottom, while the bean sprouts, jalapeños, and other veggies were on top. I appreciated how they didn't give so many veggies as well which really avoided waste. The pho was solid and tasted pretty high quality. The seafood eggrolls were delicious too, and it's pretty rare to see that on a menu, so loved that as well. Cozy and casual spot with good service. No negative notes, and would definitely come back!

#5 Pho Grassfed Eyeround and Brisket / Phở Grassfed Tái Chín northern style

Came here on a Saturday night around 10 pm since we were driving back to LA from Oceanside. Plenty of parking in the large plaza. We were greeted and seated immediately but most tables in the quaint space were taken and there seemed to be a waitlist not too long before we arrived. I've only gotten to try northern style pho once before so I was excited to have the opportunity again. My boyfriend and I ordered the cha gio egg roll appetizer ($9) and we each got the #5 pho tai chin northern style ($15.00). They put a little glass bottle of water on your table with mint sprigs that you can take home!! You better believe I took it home lol. Food was ready fast. The egg rolls were the ones with typical golden wrapper (not the rice paper ones which are my favorite) and they were a bit on the smaller side. They also only provided a small amount of mint and 3 small flower shaped cut out pickled radishes and 3 of the same for carrots. A bit disappointing that there wasn't more veg because I love adding it but the egg rolls themselves were super flavorful and had large chunks of shrimp inside. The pho was served in a big fancy ceramic container with matching bowl plates stacked on top that contained veg (bean sprouts, jalapeños, limes) and sauce (sriracha and hoisin). You could definitely tell the soup was different than the typical southern style. More spices and very savory! I poured half of my sauce inside and dipped the meat and noodles into the remaining sauce. There was so much meat! We were able to finish everything but were stuffed. We paid at the counter and used the restroom and were out in less than an hour. Pretty inexpensive and definitely worth it! Would come again.

First time trying northern style Pho and I was in love. My girlfriend and I came by for a late dinner on the way home from SD on a Saturday. We were sat immediately when we arrived thankfully as the restaurant was almost at capacity. The inside is a bit small that may struggle to sit parties more than 6 but it's still well decorated and featured a couple tvs playing some kpop. Our pho bowls came out only a few minutes after ordering which was nice as we were hungies. The ceramic aesthetic of the bowls were so cute, and even better that they held a generous portion. We did order large size pho soups, but even still they were not stingy with the brisket which I appreciated. Their broth was certainly nice and beefy, savory, and was of course even better with their add-ins ( siracha, hoisin, bean sprouts, and Thai basil) . We scraped our bowls quickly and would certainly return if ever in the area. The prices were fair and quality was great! The staff is friendly, and efficient. If ever in the area, I'm sure we'd consider returning for another pho fix :)

First time at the Garden Grove Pho Flavor--closer to home, and somehow better than Fountain Valley if that's possible. I love the Northern Style Pho (flat silky noodles with a dark, rich, complex broth)--I ordered the Pho Tai LAN with garlic fried ribeye--spectacularly garlicky (now vampire proof for 24 hrs)! My spouse got the southern style #5 Pho Tai Chin. We ordered a free side of white onions to split Friendly efficient service The presentation is adorable Super generous meat in each serving Clean bright space Plenty of parking

Pho with beef rib add on

Pho Flavor exceeded expectations. I ordered the Northern style pho with wide noodles and added the beef rib, and it was one of the things that made this place stand out right away since Northern style pho is harder to find. The broth alone will have me coming back. It was deeply flavorful, rich, and comforting without feeling too heavy. You can taste the care that goes into it. The beef rib add on was absolutely worth it. It was tender, meaty, and such a great complement to the soup. I also loved the wide noodles, which made it feel a little different from the typical bowl of pho. What also stood out was how elevated everything felt. The restaurant has a modern, clean vibe and the presentation is thoughtful in a way you do not often see at pho spots. Instead of the usual sauce bottles sitting on the table, the sauces are served in a dish, which felt much more intentional. Even the basil comes presented in a bottle like a floral arrangement, which was such a beautiful touch. I appreciated that it felt true to Northern style pho while also offering a more refined dining experience. From the flavorful broth to the thoughtful presentation, this place delivers both comfort and quality. Definitely a place I would come back to.

Special South Style Pho / Phở Nam Đặc Biệt

Tried both the Pho Bac Dac Biet (Northern style) and Pho Nam Dac Biet (Southern style). I preferred the Northern bowl - the larger flat noodles were great, the broth had more flavor, and it felt like it came with much more meat. One thing I really liked was the presentation. The bowls are layered with dipping sauces on top, veggies in the middle, and a piping hot bowl of pho underneath. I've unsuccessfully searched for those bowls online ever since, so if anyone knows where they're from, pls let me know haha. Another nice touch was the fresh basil served in a jar. Not only does it look cute, but they let you take it home afterward, which I thought was pretty neat. I also really liked the pickled vinegar onions. They were sliced nice and thin and had the perfect amount of vinegar - not too sharp and not too mild. The portions seemed a bit smaller than what I'm used to, but the broth was clean and I wasn't feeling heavy afterwards. Overall, it's a solid bowl of pho and I enjoyed my meal. However, since I'm not from the area, I probably wouldn't make the drive all the way up here specifically for it. But if you're nearby and craving pho, it's worth checking out.

Two bowls of phở tái chín and bánh quẩy
    Jeremy S.

It was our first time visiting this restaurant, and the pho tasted great. There wasn't a wait, so we got seated immediately. While researching different pho spots, I was intrigued at the reviews that mentioned the stackable bowls. I ordered the phở tái chín ($15), which came with your choice of northern- or southern-style pho and eye-round brisket. When we got our menu, there was an interesting explanation of the differences between northern and southern pho styles. Northern-style pho has a rich broth from herbs and spices with flat and large noodles. Southern-style pho, which I'm more accustomed to, has a light and savory broth with medium-sized rice noodles. The lunch was a cute experience with three stackable bowl tiers: sauces, garnish, and pho. It was a fun lifting each bowl to see what lied underneath. There were also little vases each with Thai basil that you can pluck off yourself. It was pleasant to have all the amenities on our table. We also had a water pitcher to pour ourselves a cup. The price for what you get is great. At some angles, the bowl may look small, but there was a lot of broth. Comparable to other pho restaurants I've tried, the amount of noodles and meat is standard (plenty). The broth tasted deliciously pleasant, even better with the garnishes provided. We also got bánh quẩy ($3): three fried dough sticks. I've thought of this as usually a breakfast dish, but it complemented the pho really well.

    Austin B.

Great pho with northern and southern options. They give you basil in a cup and you can take it home with you. All the veggies come in a bowl including the sauce. A little gimmicky but it's convenient. Wish they gave more veggies though. You can get thin or thick noodle with any bowl. Egg rolls are really good here but small

    Phở Băc Đặc Biệt
    Michael D.

I came here because I just learned that there's two styles of Phở - North and South style. I never tried the North style. I'm no Phở connoisseur, but I didn't notice a difference, maybe I should have ordered both to compare. But it was still good. I ordered the Phở Băc Đặc Biệt. When I was reading the menu I thought I had to pick one type of meat, but it comes with all the meats. It was really tasty and I cleaned that bowl up. I really like how it's served. It's in a three layer bowl. The first part has the broth, meat and noodles, the middle part is the veggies and the top is the sauces. It was cool. I also got the Asian donuts, I would have liked it more if there was sugar or chocolate to dip it in as I was craving for something sweet. The place is nice and clean. Plenty of parking. The service was great. I sat down, they took my order and then I got my food like in a minute. It was fast. When you're done you go to the register and pay. It's cool a place to get Phở.

    Ben H.

It's kind of fun the way they serve your pho and toppings lol. Otherwise it's a great pho, not the best in the area but still good. For 18 bucks though? Idk Dac biet bac: Get The broth was clean and flavorful. Not too sweet and I didn't have to add much except lime for it to be perfect for me. There's hella meat and the fresh noodles had a really good texture so i'd recommend getting that too if you're looking at building your own. However 18 bucks for pho? Inflation or am i just too frugal now LOL idk Besides that service was decent and inside was clean and nice. Little bouquet of herbs too lol so they trying. Food: 8/10 Service: 6/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 Price: 5/10

So cool that I just discovered Westminster has a location too! What's even better is that they have outdoor seating which means dogs are allowed! That's a HUGE plus for me. My go to is always the soup thick egg noodle and thin vermicelli noodle with assorted meat and shrimp. I also like to order the egg and rice cake for the table. Each dish is about $14. Portions seem a bit smaller than the San Gabriel and Rosemead location but it gets the job done and I am pretty full after the meal. They have so many other options on the menu like chow fun, hainan chicken, and a ton of other noodle soup dishes. The last two times I came here was on a weekday during lunch so there was plenty of parking. However, I'm sure it gets packed on the weekend since it is located right next to the Asian Garden Mall. All tax is included in the price so there's no additional sales tax line item. Also! They charge 50 cents for water.. other locations do not. I was surprised but oh well.

Luckily, it happened to be happy hour specifically for the dish I ordered, so it was $13! The dish itself was good! The sauce was creamy (the eggs made it even creamier), and dipping my fresh baguette into it was soooo yummy! I added chili oil to it though for some spice. Delicious! The side of "salad" (a small plate of lettuce and tomato slices) was also nice to have. I ate it with a lot of the pickled garlic. Definitely a filling meal. The restaurant has a lot of seating, but it can get a bit warm. We were seated near the door but were feeling the heat throughout our meal! I don't think the AC was on, and there were no fans for air circulation. Props to the workers for working in a warm environment!

Long time diner, first time reviewer…read more I've always loved Grandpa's Kitchen, maybe because of the sweet name that makes me think of my own grandpa. They have one of the best egg noodle soups around. The broth is perfectly balanced and well seasoned, the egg noodle is well made, with generous toppings. The dry version of the egg noodle is equally delicious. You can't go wrong with either selection. I'm always surprised at their affordable prices. These days you can't really get a good bowl of noodle soup for under $18-$20. Here you can get a solid bowl for just $8 during happy hour! Whaaat?! Crazy! That is such a great price that I almost feel like I'm robbing them. LOL. During this recent visit, I wasn't too hungry so I just got a small bowl of wonton soup for just $7. It comes with 5 pieces of wontons. The only disappointing thing was that it doesn't come with one of my favorite toppings - tóc mỡ. It would've cost $2 to add it. I really wish they did include it. I also got some grilled pork skewers. Though a little soft, they were pretty delicious - nicely seasoned, flavorful, and make a great appetizer. I also love that they're open late - till 11PM!

Overall a decent place with many options for Vietnamese food, both big meal dishes and fun street food. Here what we tried: Ngheu Hap Thai (Thai Style Clams) - the clams were big and the broth is very flavorful! My mom really enjoyed it! Mi Vit Tiem (Duck Noodle Soup) - absolutely love the broth! So clean and herbal like! The noodle texture is interesting, as it is not your usual egg noodles. Not sure if I like it over the traditional egg noodles. Still a good dish! Banh Canh Tom Cua (Vietnamese Crab & Shrimp Udon) - there were so much crabs and shrimps in the bowl. The broth is good, just a little bland and needed to add some fish sauce. Mi Sui Cao (Wonton Dried Noodles) - love the wonton and the fried shrimp crunchy thing. The seasoning is really, but I don't think I like the noodles they used. Sup Cua (Vietnamese Crab Soup) - so much toppings in the soup! Love the century's egg!

The pork patties were my favorite, and although there were plenty of the grilled pork, many of them were pieces with a lot of fat. That was my only gripe about it. Now about the hu tieu, which came with all the delicious bbq pork, shrimp, shredded chicken, fried garlic and onions, lightly dressed in an oh so delicious sauce. For me, the sauce was actually the star. Mix everything together and get yourself one delicious bite, filled with so much flavor. The accompanying broth on the side was great as well, with hints of dried shrimp reminiscent of a really good HK wonton noodle soup broth. Highly recommend this place!!

It's pretty much a hole in the wall type of place with some large TV's on the walls if you wanted to watch sporting events like the World Cup. We got banh mi pate que which comes with 2 piece that are breadstick sized filled with pate and pork floss. A great appetizer for sharing or having some coffee with. It comes served piping HOT so be careful! We also had the bun cha ha noi which is a very traditional Northern Vietnamese Nanoi dish. It has grilled pork patties and pork belly in a sweet savory fish sauce served with fresh herbs and cold rice vermicelli. You pretty much eat it by wrapping it with the lettuce or dip your noodles into the sauce. Very authentic and delicious without being overly heavy. There isn't much service here since they seem to be super short staffed but they do have delicious authentic Northern Vietnamese food so we absolutely will be back again!
