As a person with Vietnamese descent, I approved this place. I tried 4 different pho places so far in SA and this one is my favorite and here is why. You know its hella good before the food comes out is when they blasting Vietnamese (Minh Tuyet and Bang Kieu) music with a room full of American soldiers. Not a F was given. Cafe Sua Da, is made properly with condense milk and a french press. The pho broth is flavorful, not too heavy or light, with a hint of sweetness. It wasn't oily nor bland. The cut of meat is great, I order pho tai nam bo vien, and everything was cut evenly no crappy trimmings were in the soup. The slices of meat were of higher quality than most places I tried in San Antonio. The service was great, usually in Vietnamese restaurant its hard to get a water refill, the staff was attentive and happy. Cha Gio, fried spring rolls, were not what I was expecting of a typical Vietnamese restaurant. They literally fry a huge, loosely wrapped spring roll that soaks up all the grease they fry it in and bring it to you on a shred of lettuce. Unbelievable that they serve this. Vegetarian pho was tasteless. Possibly because it's vegetarian, but there are places that make bomb veggie pho so I expected more from a Vietnamese restaurant with rave reviews. The fish clay pot dish was not the best. The sauce was good but the fish didn't taste very fresh so it was difficult to power thru and to finish it. There was also a fly that kept buzzing around which makes the fish seem even less appetizing. On the plus side, the dim sum item was really awesome. If you came to eat Pho, you wont be disappointed. I didn't stray too far in the menu but was pleasantly surprised at the taste of the broth and texture of the noodles. Ordering a large serving, there was plenty of meat where I did not need to order extra. The service was modest and pleasant. The restaurant creatively branded the name with different manga figures and incorporates it into the menu and art on the walls. Overall it was a good experience and look forward to coming back. My go-to restaurant for pho in this area. It's located right off 410 next to Wingstop. The last time I visited, it was cold and rainy outside and I had a steamy savory bowl of pho with vietnamese coffee as I sat by the window. It was perfect pho weather. The only complaint I have: I think the tendon could be softer. I still love the broth and noodles though! I have ALWAYS recommended Pho Ha Long to anyone looking for great food. At least over 10 times I've told people how great it is, HOWEVER, today was one of the worst experiences I've gone through at this establishment and it is all due to one single person. I called to order beef broth. Simple right? I guess not. They asked me if that was it and I asked for all of the fixings (peppers, limes, bean sprouts) as well and was told ok. Never once did I ask for a discounted price NOR expect one. I just did not feel like eating noodles or beef.... I wanted BROTH, so sue me right? I get there and was "greeted" by who I assume is one of the owners. A very rude elder woman who on multiple occasions was less than pleasant. I have always smiled and bit my tongue because of respect! Anyway, I go in and go to pay and am charged $3 which I thought was crazy because I wanted almost everything Pho has, minus the beef/noodles. The woman seemed irritated and was pointing her finger saying "I hope you have cash, no card under $10" so I said id be back, went to my car to retrieve cash (still in good spirits and a smile). When I returned I asked her AGAIN if the sprouts were in the bag along with the other items I asked for and her reply was "don't know, you check your bag" are you F-ing kidding me!!!! So I pay, I check the bag and NOTHING but broth and limes. I go back to the counter to ask her AGAIN and this time a bit more firm for the remainder items and she says "NO! You pay for whole soup if you want sprouts! Not for just broth!" (Super freaking rude!) FIRST OF ALL, I ORDERED ALL OF THESE ITEMS LADY!!!! SECOND OF ALL, I never asked for a special price or a discount!!! Charge the entire meal for f@&?$ sake, but don't give me shitty attitude because you don't know about customer service! Needless to say I had her charge me and extra $2, but gave her a $5 and told her to keep the damn change. This will be the last time I EVER go to this restaurant and that's a shame because we always drop a lot of money every time we go. A little advice, if you don't want to be there, then go home! I hate when people ASSUME you are asking for discounts! I was very offended when all I wanted was to pay for my f$&@?!$ food at regular price! One persons bad attitude can ruin your entire meal. Excellent bowl of pho! This was my first time having pho with the Northern Vietnamese style (more savory) broth, and it is head and shoulders above the other pho I have eaten in other parts of Texas and in other states. The broth was incredible, the portion of meat was generous, and the noodles were perfectly cooked. We've eaten pho in NYC, Houston, Austin, Vegas, etc., but this was hands down my favorite variation. The owners were friendly and talkative, and made us feel welcome, and overall it was a great experience. I remembered about this place, but was a little nervous to go back since it had been a while since I had last been here. I had nothing to worry about. The food and service hasn't changed. The server that took our order was very patient and explained every cut of meat they offer. He didn't rush us. He joked with us and let us ask questions without making us feel stupid. He also comp' d some guys food to thank them for their service since they were in the military. The food came out fast, and it did not disappoint. The broth was flavorful and the meat was lean.
