The pho here was decent. The broth was hot enough to cook the meat and tasted good. The prices are reasonable! The customer service is okay but they do serve you fast. When I say I love it here I mean it, we've been going there since the old owners had it, sad to see them go but happy the flavors stayed. I'd give this restaurant 5 stars if I could only downfall is there so busy especially lunch hour. I know it's hard to keep up with everyone there so to get a refill we'd have to wave them down. Reasons to give 1 star: 1. I ordered Pho No. 12 (with Tripe). The one I got did NOT have tripe. I raised my question to the waiter. With addition to giving no apology, the waiter replied in a very indifferent manner that they were out of tripe but they added more of other meat. Excuse me?!! Didn't it cross your mind that you might want to first notify me and then check with me whether that was what I wanted??!!! The lack of consideration and professionalism in his attitude was extremely disappointing!! 2. My boyfriend ordered Pork Vermicelli. Afraid to say that was the worst vermicelli we had ever tried. The meat didn't feel fresh at all!! 3. I'm a phonatic pho pho;) and must say that this place never seizes to fail with their quality of food (it wasn't my first time here) The broth is amazing and it was served piping hot (just as it should be). I ordered the vegetable pho with beef broth and I absolutely loved it. The portions are incredibly generous as I struggled to finish my bowl. They offer a medium or large portion for their pho. Lou: I've been wanting to try that Vietnamese place by Ingram Park Mall. Bud: Pho Ha Long? Lou: Ever since they opened! Okay, I got that out of my system. I'm always one for a bad pun, and this one has been staring me in the face. I don't really know much about Vietnamese food, so my review is likely to sound like the blind men trying to describe the elephant. But I like this place enough to take the chance. The office lunch crew has made two trips to Pho Ha Long, and I've been happy both times. I had Pho Chín (noodle soup with well done brisket) on the first visit and Bò kho (beef stew) on the second. One of my companions (Elite Yelper Chris A.) swears by the Com Thit Nuong (pork slice grilled with ground lemon grass), which looks excellent. He's never offered to share, so I'm sure that's a good sign. I also like to get a boba tea, which is refreshing and fun to drink. The portions at Pho Ha Long are large, cheap and delicious. Everything is very fresh, the service is good, and the restaurant is clean. This place offers everything I could ask for in a lunch place convenient to work. So it took 38 miles for us to meander along the south side from the north central part of town only to end up on the northwest side of town today at Pho Ha Long for lunch. It helps to have a plan. Well at least I wasn't' wasting MY gas. I tweeted for suggestions of places to eat but everyone was ALL LATE. LOL. No web address for this popular Vietnamese noodle shop across from Ingram Park Mall but the food has always been good. Had the #11 and of course I have already forgotten what the meats are in this pho but whatever they were they were delicious. Noodles were tender and the assorted meats were tender. The garnishes were fresh and always add to overall flavor of the soup. Their version of bubble tea is called boba tea. Had the mango and it was super sweet and super delicious too. So if you ever find yourself on a 38 mile trek around the city, head on over to Pho Ha Long and enjoy a big giant bowl of pho. I personally guarantee it. PS: What's the difference between the large and small bowl---75¢. PPS: Next time I'll try the soul cooking place this guy was hawking on his wearable cardboard sign. Ate here a couple of years ago & forgot to write a review. Food wasn't too memorable, but I could never forget my boba tea ordering experience. Mind you I had boba all over the U.S. (CA, TX, GA, FL, CO, OK, KS, AR..you name it). Never once have I had a "lecture" on ordering boba.....until now. I remembered asking for a mocha frapp or something similar. The guy told me he would charge me twice (as in doubling the cost of a boba drink) because it has 2 flavors. 2 flavors = 2 charges. You serious, crazy man?! If you knew how to mix boba drinks you can easily blend them (whether it be real fruit, real coffee, syrup, powder, etc). No need to charge double! He then proceeded to lecture me about how boba drinks are mixed, how it gets charged, etc. etc. I can go on and on......but let's just leave it at that. Yup, it's that good. As a recently dubbed Pho connoisseur (i gave myself this title and yes it still counts), I've learned that it's the broth that makes or breaks pho. I've visited a few around SA, and this place has "IT". The wait staff is always prompt and nice, so no complaints there. My pho is always brought out to me in less than 10 min, which is a huge plus. The side items that come with the pho don't necessarily deserve a review (sprouts, limes, noodles, I'm forgetting some) they are what they are. I can't remeber which number I always get (pretty sure it's no 2), but the meat is always good. I want to SA it's the flank steak...don't remember. If you eat pho, you know the meat isn't necessarily cooked before hand, but the SUPER hot broth does the job. Regardless, the meat is always tender, and you get the good cuts (not the fatty pieces). Sunday dinner was super different for me, I ended up at Pho Ha Long. This was my first time eating Vietnamese food. I went in with an open mind and empty stomach. We started with some Fried Vietnamese egg roll. Which came with a fish dipping sauce. I ordered a number 2 - Pho Tai Chin which is noodle soup with round steak and brisket. The soup was nice and hot. The broth had a wonderful flavor that any first timer would love. It wasn't spicy at all . The combination of the broth and the meats were delicious. I will be back soon. read more

This review is only for the boba tea because that's the only thing I had here. It is the best I've had in San Antonio except when I make my own at home. Please don't take this to mean this place has Quickly or TapExpress type of boba drinks, but they mostly have more of your typical vietnamese type of drinks that emphasize more fruity flavors. But after have tried bubblehead in San Antonio, where I threw away my entire order, I'm just about to vote any decent beverage mixed with non stale boba balls five star. WHAT TO ORDER: The Pho I was so, so, so happy to find a good pho place in SA! On a rainy or cold day or even a summer day, pho is one of my favorite things to eat if the broth is done right! I have really high expectations of pho places because if the soup sucks (and it's very easy to mess it up and have it be tasteless), then nothing will save the bowl of pho. PHO: The soup was extremely tasty and the meatballs and beef were tender! All the great makings of a good pho! Dip the meat into a mixture of sriracha and hoisin (you'll have to make it yourself - take the two bottles and just squeeze it into one of the little dishes). And then add all of the great veggie to your bowl - mint leaves, bean sprouts, jalapenos, and to make the soup even better - squeeze some lime into the soup. YUM! This place offers many meat options! VERMICELLI: So my friend ordered a vermicelli bowl here, and it was quite frankly, awful which surprised me considering the pho was really good. I have no clue if it was an off day, but the noodles were not normal vermicelli noodles but instead very dry, short noodles - lacking any sort of moisture good vermicelli noodles need. The bowl was mostly noodle and not a very good noodle:meat ratio, and the eggroll that came with it was small. Very tasteless overall. So I do not recommend! The service was good. We had two waitresses and they were both friendly and accommodating. I ate the tofu/veggie pho and shrimp summer rolls (w/ the peanut sauce). I always order pho and split a banh mi sandwich with my boyfriend...I didn't see banh mi on the menu :-(. Shrimp rolls lacked shrimp and had extra noodles. Sauce was good, not the best. The pho was piping hot, but the aroma from piping hot pho was missing. The tofu was good, broth was bland, and lacking veggies. No mushrooms :-(. My boyfriend liked his pho with medium rare beef. Also, I wish they had given more than 2 jalapenos on the fixings plate... I might give them another chance. Well, it's time for me to update this review. It has been 7 years. I have come a few times on Mondays when my former favorite Vietnamese restaurant (which is much closer to my house) was closed. However, that place started to gradually decline, until recently, it got to the point that I will never return. Hence my visit today to Pho Ha Long. I was actually surprised today. I remember Pho Ha Long having a very good broth. I just don't remember it being as good as it was today. My number 17 pho was really good today. There is nothing negative I can say about it. It was quite possibly one of the best bowls of Vietnamese noodles I have ever had in San Antonio. I did not try the summer rolls today. But, we did have an order of the fried Vietnamese spring rolls. They really hit the spot. I don't know what they fry them in, but I am assuming it is animal fat- either lard or tallow. All I do know is that it gives an incredible extra taste to crunchy shell of the spring rolls. That mixed with the tastes of the fillings and the fish sauce is almost oral sensory overload. One last note... I complained in the past about how I always felt like the people that work there seemed to be watching me and judging me as I ate my pho. That was not evident there today. Today, there were just servers serving, as it should be. Original Review from 5/1/2010: I have been here three times. I always get the same thing, #17 and an order of summer rolls. The summer rolls are obviously made by different people at different times. They are usually really good. The last time I went, they were as thick as my wrists and had so much noodles inside that you couldn't taste anything at all when you ate them. The pho has been consistently good. The broth is excellent. The meats are tasty. Even the bible tripe has a flavore here, instead of just being something tasteless to chew like at other places. That bubble tea stuff is okay. It is way too sweet for me. I have only tried two flavors, apple and avocado, but they were too sweet to finish. My only problem with the place is the people. There always seem to be 2-3 family members or workers on a break that just sit and stare at me while I eat. I probably don't eat pho the way you are supposed to. I mean, we didn't eat it much at our house growing up. I always think they are watching me thinking, "Look at that moron! He eats pho like an idiot!" I may just be paranoid. What a surprise. Having visited many Vietnamese restaurants in San Antonio, this one had slipped below my radar until today. While I do like pho, my preference is the charcoal grilled pork. I wasn't disappointed. I ordered 24a, sliced pork with lemongrass served on rice. Wow. This was simply delicious. There's just something about those Vietnamese spices on pork cooked over charcoal. I always mix the rice with the spicy sirachi sauce and the fish sauce, mixing in the pork. The crispy burnt ends of the pork are simply divine. This is definitely on my deathbed bucket list. Simply delicious. I also ordered 21a the Vietnamese egg rolls. These are also very good. They are very crispy on the outside but have a soft texture at the same time. Dip the pieces in the fish sauce, squeeze on the sirachi and pop that thing in your mouth. If you're disappointed, your mouth is broken. Unfortunately I can not comment on the pho. Unbelievable, right? I mean, what kind of moron reviews a Vietnamese restaurant that specializes in pho, and doesn't review the pho. What I can tell you in that 2 others in my party did eat the pho and enjoyed it thoroughly. As this place is near my work, I would definitely be back. I'm not a phan of pho. I do recognize that they have a good business model here though. I eat their pho about once a week right now. Once you order, you can expect to get your pho within five minutes..I guarantee within ten minutes. They have to have some huge vat in the back of the scorching hot broth and then add in whatever meat you choose. The vegetables are all the same and they let you add that yourself. They have the chopsticks on the table which are uncovered and I think it unsanitary. How do I know the person who sat On that table before me didn't touch or use the chopsticks and place it back in. Don't expect attentive service, but they'll take your order, bring your food, and you can flag them down for anything else. The day I was there I saw a woman drop her napkin and all the server did was pick it up and give it back to her. But then again, she didn't ask for a new one, but still. Seeking out some more pho spots, I stopped by this place on my way home from work. It is certainly not the best spot I've been, but will do in a pinch. The summer rolls were not prepared very well. They were not wrapped tightly like you'd find at other places, so as soon as I bit into the thing it started falling apart. And when I dipped the bitten piece into the peanut sauce, the contents of the roll came out, so I had to pick everything out with my chopsticks. The second roll (an order comes with two pieces) was a little hard because the wrapper was not thoroughly cooked prior to making the roll. Either that or they gave me a leftover dried out roll, neither of which is good. The pho made up for the rolls though. I can't decide if the soup is my favorite. I thought it was really good but something about it seemed different from other places, as if it were not a traditional broth... Like maybe they added something to it. And I did like that they had bigger pieces of meat in my combination bowl. I only ordered a medium bowl (portion control) but still ate everything AND drank up the soup. Went here for lunch on a Thursday. It was not very busy at all and we were seated immediately. The service here was fast and our server was courteous. As soon as we sat down, we had water to drink and menus to look at. The pho was fantastic. One of the oldest Vietnamese restaurants in town, but unlike many other Vietnamese restaurants around where you can pick your dishes from a considerably larger menu (think Pho Hung Cuong 2 down the street along Hwy 410) Pho Ha Long's menu is much more limited, with its pho offered at a very reasonable price. How good is it, though?! Well, it's just good, not great, but worth trying. It's not unforgettable, but it's just tasty enough for you to say that you just ate pho! I would not recommend this restaurant for your first date or for any formal dinner party, though. There are nicer Vietnamese places for that (think Heavenly Pho or Pho Hung Cuong 2 close by). The decor and the atmosphere are on the casual, very casual side. It's reasonably clean, though, but it's not on the higher end of the restaurant spectrum. You come here for a quick, relatively inexpensive and decently tasty pho, if all you'd want is to eat pho. The service is also ok, not great, but the waiters and waitresses are courteous enough for you to enjoy or focus on your meals. At lunch hours on a weekend the wait is fairly quick. One of the better pho places I've tried in San Antonio. Great selection of authentic Viet dishes. A lot of meat combinations for the pho. Their spring rolls are pretty satisfying and never disappoint. Something I'll do occasionally when I can't decide between a rice plate or pho, is order a rice plate and buy the kid's pho. The kids pho is around $5, but comes with a good portion to fill my pho craving and let me still enjoy my main entree. -1 star: Their bubble tea here has much to be desired. I always end up ordering one, cause boba isn't too easy to come by in SA. So I always think "might as well, while I'm here." But the tapioca balls are always kinda hard and at a weird consistency. Not smooth and chewy like they're supposed to be. Since bubble tea seems to be a big point in their menu, I gotta dock a star for it not being good. -1 star: The decor and ambience of the location isn't too pretty.
