My favorite place to eat Pho (just Pho), we usually come once a week. I wish they served my favorite Vietnamese friend spring rolls though. The broth is Always good and the Noodles are always good. They have been consistent and that's what I like about them. Their vegetables (bean sprouts, basil and cilantro) are always fresh. The prices are really cheap compared to other places in San Antonio. I order the brisket and meatball (small bowl) and can never finish the entire thing. In a good bowl of Pho, sometimes you don't need to add hoisin or siracha. I have found that with their broth, it's so flavorful and aromatic that you don't need anything at all. The owners are really nice especially Ana, we come so often that she knows what we order. They also close for the entire month of July while they take a trip back home to Vietnam. They are also closed on Tuesdays, usually the day I want Pho. read more

It has finally cooled off enough for soup, so my husband and I decided to check this place out. Oh my goodness this place makes my belly happy! We were greeted and seated immediately upon walking in. I ordered the P4 pho and the fried Vietnamese egg rolls. The food came out within 5 minutes of ordering, I couldn't believe how fast it was served! The pho had a lot of meat and the broth was very flavorful. I generally like to have jalapeño slices for garnish in my soup, which they did not offer, but that is my only "complaint". They offer a small bowl of soup but it was maybe .25 cents less than the large so I just went ahead and ordered the large. I also have ordered pho to go from here and it was also delicious at home! This is a really good Vietnamese restaurant. It changed management or ownership a few years ago and some of their best dishes were lost, but there are still plenty more. I do wish they would bring back the soft shell crab in garlic sauce. I like the grilled pork with vermicelli and egg rolls. The pork has an awesome flavor. The egg rolls are really good but are often served sitting in a pool of oil. The fish sauce has a good flavor and goes well with everything. The pho is also really good and served with fresh and pickled veggies. The food is always fresh and flavorful. Don't forget to ask for hot oil. It's not sitting on the table. Uggh, this is one of those places where the food was way better than the service There were only two people serving food, filling up drinks, taking orders and checking out guest so it took 20 mins for me to cash out. Now for the good, I ordered the C1 (pork chop, shredded pork, and egg) and the A2 (pork skin summer roll) for a measly $11 or something. It was well worth the money because as much as I hated the decor and the service, the food was on point. The pork was marinated well and not dried out and even the fried egg was perfect. And I love how they give you a huge squeeze bottle of Sambal hot sauce, because you know, the average ketchup bottle size just isn't enough for me. Everything was great but come on, Pho Hong Phat, you need to hire some more people! That poor girl was sweating so hard her glasses were slipping off her nose. And the other guy helping her looked like the cook out wasn't even a server and was running in and out of the kitchen. Get these folks some more help. Also, the interior is just terrible looking. It looked like they were going for the rustic coffee shop look and then ran out of money after the wood panels and the cheap blinds. I've been ordering to-go from here quite often this past year, mainly because it's close to where I live and I find pho to be great for whenever I come down with a cold (which has been happening way too often lately). Since my previous (sit-down) visit to this establishment was awful (due to their customer service), calling to-go over the phone and stopping by to pick up the piping hot orders has been amazing! It's quick (my order is usually ready within 10 minutes), easy/efficient (if you know what you want to order), and bypasses many of the issues I previously had with this place. My go-to to-go order is their Pho Dac Biet (in a large because I'm a fatty). The noodles and meat are packaged in a styrofoam box, and the soup is packaged in a plastic container that looks thin and can be a bit distorted due to the intense heat of the broth but hasn't burst on me yet so it's doing it's job. read more

A bit of a ways from the downtown riverwalk area but nothing a ride in a lyft car couldn't remedy. The restaurant is in a strip mall and quite large inside. Decor is minimal but the staff is warm and inviting. Service lacked extremely even though they were not super busy in the least bit. Pho broth lacked any depth or flavor for that matter. Ordered the grilled pork chop over rice and again packed no seasoning as well. With such a large Vietnamese population and great reviews from not just yelp I was hoping for some great goodness. A solid Vietnamese joint in the med center area! Coming from Houston, where there is an abundance of awesome Vietnamese food, I was searching for something that reminded me of the same vibe - comforting Vietnamese food that is delicious and authentic - this place definitely delivers. I've been to this place a few times whenever I'm hard core craving pho or bun bo hue. Both the pho and bun bo hue are solid here. The broth can make or break pho, and they do a solid job here. It's warm and comforting, but not too fatty and rich that it makes you feel heavy afterwards. There's definitely depth and time spent making the broth. Topped off with some sriracha and hoisin sauce, with the tender meat, the chewy noodles, and the crisp veggies - perfect for a rainy day or hangover cure. The bun bo hue here is also a solid choice. The tanginess and slight spice that comes with the broth along with the texture of the blood sausage and the slight chewiness of the egg noodles. It's another great rainy day treat. Did I also mention that it's cheap here? I mean the quantity of food for the price certainly can't be beat. Great value! My husband and I split the AB21 ($8.99) and the pork summer rolls (2 for $3.99). It was just enough food for both of us to be full at the end, and everything was tasty! The pork had a really nice flavor, and I liked the sauce that came with the summer rolls. The inside was a little dark and uninviting, but that is easy to ignore after a little while. It was a cold and cloudy day so pho sounded like a good idea. I decided to try pho hong phat for the first time and I wasn't disappointed. It took me a little while to find the restaurant but it is actually not too far from work. The restaurant has moderate decorations and lots of plants and flowers which looked nice. Some Vietnamese travel/food programming was showing on TV which was fitting. It wasn't that busy at lunch today but somehow they only had one server. It wasn't possible for him to take care of all the customers and clean the tables on top of that. So both the cashier and a man who seemed to work in the back came to help. As a result, it took a little while for them to bring me a glass of water and take my order. Nevertheless they brought my food fairly quickly. I ordered the combo pho that came with all kinds of meat and fresh spring rolls. The spring rolls were huge. I mean I got two for my order but I felt they could make four spring rolls out of them. The portion of my pho was gigantic too. I think I got the regular but wish I ordered the small. Both the pho and spring roll were delicious. I only finished half of both so I took the rest home. Overall I think the food is excellent but I wouldn't give them a five star b/c of the slow service. I mean the people there were nice and everything but I felt they could be more attentive. I had to go to the register to get take out containers myself after saying excuse me for 3 times without getting a response. Maybe they just didn't hear me. This weekend I really wanted some good pho and my boyfriend found a place near the are we were. This place is kind of hidden near a local not so busy road. Parking spots are spacious and it's kind of in a deserted area so no need to worry. The inside is very spacious as well and reminds you of a Chinese restaurant. Immediately, someone came to take our order. I got summer rolls and the pho dac biet(combination of meats). My boyfriend got the pho tai and egg rolls. Make sure to remind the server that you want the veggies that goes in the soup if you want. The soup was savory, hot, and refreshing to the soul. I ordered a large size and they have met up on expectations. You might not notice the meats but they're all at the bottom and they don't skimp out. Summer rolls were made fresh but there wasn't a lot of shrimp or pork. Definitely recommend this place for pho. read more

This being my first visit to this restaurant I had high expectations. When my daughter and I arrived, it was probably a little past 11:30 in the morning. There were just a few tables occupied when we were seated. We were greeted immediately and our drink orders were taken soon after being seated. The menu was fairly extensive and the big choice for me was between the pho and vermicelli dishes. Not wanting to splatter myself with anything, I went with the broiled pork/Chicken vermicelli. We started off with a couple of crispy pork egg rolls which were very good. Could have used one more in the order. But I guess it was best not to fill up. The entrees came out in a timely manner and was happy to see what appeared to be plenty of meat. Important because that's what I'm paying for. Both proteins had a great flavor and there was also cilantro and carrots in the bowl - a nice combo. The serving was plentiful in noodles as well. My daughter got a bowl of pho and it also looked good, but may have could have used more meat from what I could see. The main reason I'm giving three stars is because the service apart from the initial interaction was lacking. No one came back during our meal to offer a refill on our drinks or to see if everything was okay. Plus, I had to go up to the register to pay the bill because no one came around to the table to give us our check. Didn't know quite what to do. I was craving pho, and my usual place was closed. Went here on the recommendation of a friend who swears by it. I wasn't impressed. My date loves soup and ordered the beef soup. It was laden with fat. There was very little beef in it, instead it contained huge chunks of fat. The top layer was all grease with no flavor and very little in it. After talking to first the server then an older woman, he exchanged the soup for fried rice. The rice looked like white rice with a bit of meat, and some veggies. It wasn't seasoned. I had the special pho: tripe, meatballs etc. It was disappointing in flavor and lacked substance. The cilantro was IN the soup, and I didn't get all the usual accoutrements on the side. You'll see this place each time you travel down Wurzbach and it's mixed how crowded it is. Sometimes a lot of cars and sometimes not at all. The menu is expansive ranging from pho to rice and noodle dishes. We ordered the grilled pork and shrimp spring rolls to start. They were good and weren't filled with a lot of excess items which makes it even better and everything didn't fall out. We got the appetizers the same time as our meal which wasn't a feature I loved. I ordered the stir fry tofu with soft egg noodles and it was very good. The sauce added a nice flavor. Next time I might put some sriracha to give it a bit of a kick. Nonetheless, it was very good. My husband ordered the brisket pho and he really enjoyed it. He adds some basil and sriracha to give it the flavor he desires. The service is friendly and the food comes out very quickly. They need to update the interior. The light is dreary and the wood paneling makes you feel like you are in a basement of the 1970s/80s. Good meal and value. Wandered in here when we were beyond starving and were pleasantly surprised by the vast noodle options. They were 100% serious when they decided to add "noodle house" to their name. We both enjoyed eyeround Pho in spicy broth. The broth was flavorful and had the perfect subtle kick I was looking for. The pricing was super affordable as I ordered a large bowl for $8 and my other half (over zealously) ordered an extra large for only $3 more totaling to about $11 for an extra large that would have been enough to feed us both. Surprised this place has so many good reviews due to the lousy service one gets when dining here. The ratings must be based on the pho. The pho is definitely a good price for the amount of contents they give. I think the large bowl is around $7.25; which is the cheapest I've seen in town. The broth is flavorful and the herbs are generously handed out too. I've never had anything but the pho here so I can't speak for the rest of the menu. The service is so nonexistent, every time. They should have a sign to say "seat yourself" because I see diners just stand at the door until someone mentions to them to take a seat. Just put a sign up to avoid confusion. Also, they should put a sign up to instruct diners to help themselves to the forks, dipping dishes, hot oil, etc...I say this because once the food is dropped off, nobody ever comes back. Also, some advice, sit towards the register. If you sit far from the front, the only 2 ladies that take your order will miss you completely. This has happened to me twice already. So I'm going to start with the bad and go into the good: This restaurant is really dirty... and normally I'm patient when it comes to staff cleaning and customer service, but this place has about 20-25 tables and 9 of them were covered in dirty dishes from previous guests. Been coming here for 4 years. I used to eat at another vietnamese place but then I moved and this one was down the street from my home. Food is tasty AND they give you good portions for the price. Never have they gotten my food wrong and it feels super homey. Good food, good price and good service. Needless to say, I never went back to that old vietnamese place. Pho is totally a breakfast item. As a child in the Motherland, I got used to eating pho or other kinds of hot soups for breakfast. My grandmother and aunts sold pho, chao, and banh canh at the markets at 5am. So how does PHP's pho compare to my family's version? It can't. Hard to beat nostalgia. But their broth is pretty good...rich & fragrant. I could smell the pho spices as I entered the restaurant. I like that! But the noodles tend to be too mushy. I like the noodles to be on the chewy side. The meats are plentiful. But some pieces do tend to be too dried out. That's a storage issue. Get it together, kitchen staff! So not exactly a perfect bowl of pho. But it's better than others I've had in SA. The special - bun mang vit (duck soup with bamboo shoots) was just ok. I make a better version at home. The nuoc mam (fish sauce) that comes with the dish was the killer. It was so flat and too sweet. I prefer more garlic, lime, ginger, and hot peppers in my nuoc mam. So props for opening early. If I'm on that side of town again, I'd pop back in. The bo kho (beef stew) looks promising. Maybe I'll get that next time. read more

I'm always on a mission to find the best pho wherever I am. This place is definitely in the top half of Vietnamese restaurants I've been to in San Antonio. Some may say that doesn't mean much when you've had pho in Dallas or Houston. But I've been everywhere and the pho here is pretty good. I always get the combination pho - large of course! The broth has good flavor and isn't overly fatty. The meat is generally nice and tender. I couldn't tell you how many times I've been here. I'm a medical student and there were times I visited a couple days in a row. It's close by and convenient. Ann one of the waitresses is very friendly! It's also very entertaining to watch the Vietnamese channel they have on the TV. P.S. They posted a sign saying they only accept credit cards for bills over $10. It has carrots and sliced green onions and a bit of cilantro. Once again, I prefer more cilantro, but overall the dish was excellent. I also ordered the fried egg rolls. They seemed a bit small, but comparable to what most places serve. Try we're slightly over done, but they had good flavor. Definitely not my favorite place for egg rolls, but I had to try them. They also didn't come over a large bed of lettuce like most places serve up. However, their fish sauce is good, so I enjoyed them nevertheless. All the food I ordered was to go. The man on the phone was friendly and we arrived close to closing time. Our food came out fast and he happily gave me an extra side of fish sauce. The restaurant is fairly large, with a flat screen tv showing some Asian cooking show. There's also a small pond with koi. It appeared clean and well kept. The parking lot is large. Overall, I would definitely come here again for the pho and chicken vermicelli bowl. I might even try a few other dishes, although these were good enough to want to get again! I highly recommend it and I've tried quite a few Vietnamese places around town. Pho is a weekly thing, so naturally I was bound to come here sooner or later. This place was a ghost town on Sunday for dinner, which caused a bit of skepticism but I don't scare easily. My usual is veggie pho and summer rolls with shrimp or tofu, and my guest, no matter who it is, gets the rare beef pho. The broth is A okay, a decent amount of scallions/onions which really adds to the flavor. No mushrooms, so I couldn't ask for extra :-( ...my heart sinks every time. The tofu in the rolls was cooked really well, five stars for the tofu. There's not a ton of veggies in this pho as I've had elsewhere, and my guest described the beef as having an odd flavor, as if the animal it came from had a poor diet...of dirt mostly, lol. The service was super fast, at first. A few patrons arrived after us, and they seemed to steal the attention; we never were visited again after the pho was brought. Decent atmosphere, fairly clean.
