I've been here 5 times in the last few months with one goal in life. Oxtail Pho. Every single time they've told me they just ran out. Once I called before going and they said yes just for me to cry in silent sorrow when I arrived. Another time the next table had it but as that guy on Seinfeld said, "NO SOUP FOR YOU". I was close by so I thought I'd give it another shot. No dice. This time I just left instead of settling for something else. I wasn't being an ass about it. I thanked him for his time and walked out. Not a bad bowl of pho here, and the restaurant is kept pretty clean. Staff could work on being a little more friendly to make the visit more cozy, but they are not rude or unpleasant. I was here prior to the renovation and enjoyed it more, hopefully they can bring that atmosphere back. Overall it's a place I would return to meet a pho craving. Oh, and parking... The only reason why I would ever come here is that my friends and I happen to be in the area. The pho wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly the best pho that you HAVE TO HAVE. I like how they have various options like oxtail pho and the lemon salt drink. But they were still lacking in some areas like the iced coffee and noodles. This is the worst restaurant in service and food!!! Their food isn't clean, gave us food poison. We had to tell three different waiters and they still did NOTHING. Finally I found a good Pho place in OC. The Filet Mignon Ta'i (rare beef) is the best, tender and juicy, best I had in any Pho place any where. The Ga^'u is very good too, half lean and half fat is perfect, the beef ball (bo' vie^n) is very crunchy. They have fresh noodle (banh' pho tuoi). The broth has good aroma and the amount of msg maybe not high enough to give me "msg attack" afterward. Besides Pho, their Cha? gio\ (Vietnamese egg roll) is very authentic with real Vietnamese rice paper. Other dishes are not mentionable. read more

The pho here is great! I ordered the rare beef pho & although I did enjoy it, the beef was a little too chewy. The staff here could be a little bit more attentive because they just swing by to drop your food, but don't bother to ask if everything is alright or if we need anything else. This place is my go to after a long day at Disneyland. Conveniently close to our hotel, this restaurant is great because it closes pretty late especially on weekdays! The interior of the restaurant is definitely cleaner than most pho places. I don't know why this place would have a 3&1/2 rating. Knowing that this is an vietnamese restaurant, let's not expect the best service but the fastest! I have not experienced a wait during the times that I come. I always get the #86 because it never disappoints. Parking is fair here; i never see trouble when I visit. Everything is also priced decently. Most plates are under $10! Definitely a toss-up between Pho Lu & Pho 79 (Hazard). I've gone to Pho Kimmy, 54, etc., and according to my preferences, Pho Lu has got what it takes. I had the Pho Tai Nam Gan. They make a PERFECT tendon. Thick, tender and big. The Tai came out nice with fine beef flavor. Also, the cooked meat was plentiful and delicious - not too overcooked. Went there on a Wed @ lunchtime. I ordered the small boy - $5.00 !?! Wow! It was enough to fill me up because there was a bunch of meat - not too much noodles though. I find that Pho Lu has a richer and more spicer broth than Pho 79. Don't get me wrong, it is not msg-ladened. Will be coming back for sure. Also, it's tons cleaner than Pho 79 but not as crowded. Location is harder to find. It's in the same shopping center as the Saigon Supermarket and the store is visible from Westminster blvd but well past Brookhurst. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I should have known better than to order something other than noodles at a place with "Pho" in its name. However, one would expect Vietnamese staples like spring rolls and Nem Neung to be pretty standard fare, enough for the quality to be pretty similar between all restaurants. This isn't very true. Although the nem neung at Pho Lu is edible, that's about all it is. $6 for 2 rolls is outrageous, especially considered that Brodard across the street charges a similar price for 4! Unfortunately for Pho Lu, Brodard's Nem Neung is better. The other things I ordered were ok. Com Tam was decent, but I've had better elsewhere. I may go back and give them a second chance, but only if I'm around the area and everything else is closed. And even then, I'll probably only try the pho. read more

My girlfriend was craving some pho and since we happened to be in Garden Grove we knew we could definitely find a good place. After a few minutes on my trusty Yelp app, I found Pho Lu. With a pho restaurant at every corner, we pretty much drove right past this place and had to turn around a couple times. Why are girls so bad with directions? I was hoping that there were some vegetarian options for my friend. Upon entering the establishment there were obviously a lot of Vietnamese people here and it was pretty busy for 11pm. Being shown to an empty table, we perused the menu only to find various meat & fish dishes, but nothing vegetarian. We asked the waiter who came by, but apparently he did not speak English. We uncomfortably asked for another waiter, and a young woman came by and suggested a crispy rice noodle dish with sautéed vegetables and tofu in sauce. So we thought we'd give it a try. I guess when she described it I was expecting something like the Chinese pan fried noodles, but instead the deep fried noodle was all pressed together like a small pizza & cut into slices. They were set on the brim of a bowl of steaming veggies & tofu enveloped in a delicious, soupy sauce. Dipping the crispy, crunchy noodle slices into the sauce was just divine! The veggies & tofu were both filling & healthy. As a self-professed lover of meat and fatty foods, I am always curious how my veg-friends can survive without it. But with a dish such as the one I tried tonight, which was both spontaneous & unexpected, I can say that I definitely have more of an open mind. I will definitely be back to try the pho! read more

Due to the overwhelming claims, I decided to try the OXTAIL Pho. I must say that I wasn't dissapointed. The broth was light yet meaty in flavor. The Oxtail was tender and fell right off the bone. Nothing super-special, but probably 3.8/5. My large bowl was HUGE. Couldn't even finish it. Service was great - love when they just do their job (take my order - bring my food - leave me alone). I'm giving this a 5 star review for the one time I have been here. I only tried one dish, but it is a dish I have been searching for since eating it regularly in Vietnam. I found it at Ha Noi Restaurant only to be disappointed, but here they have the genuine article, my friends. Pho Ap Chao Gion is the dish. Pho Ap Chao Gion is pho noodles fried on a pan and flattened, making the noodles crispy on the outside (gion) and soft on the inside. Stir fried veggies, beef and other good stuff is poured on top. The crispy noodles then soak up the sauce and flavors. It is the best thing in the world, especially when you squeeze some lime on it and add some heat. They have it here, people. Unfortunately, only one person in the entire joint seems to speak English so the communication was not very good. I called ahead to see if they had vegetarian pho. The person who answered the phone said confidently that they did. As you can guess, once my friend and I were sat down and comfortable, they tell us that there actually is no such thing as vegetarian pho in this restaurant! I had to order a $8.75 plate of vegetables with rice that I could have made at home for less than a dollar. After I mentioned the incident to the cashier she not only did not apologize, but vehemently denied a mistake such as that could ever happened because apparently their employees are well informed. He threw away 2 straws on the table. one dropped under the table that we had to pick it up by ourselves. Then he came back again to threw away to us 2 chopsticks. ( their service = throwing stuffs to customers ) When food came out, we didn't want to eat anything. 2 big bowls and little bit Pho. We gave them a chance to try their Pho. I gave this place 4 stars before but right after we walked in is when everything turned upside down. Our friend ordered tea and he got Orange juice. They didn't offer to exchange it we had to tell them we want what we ordered. Same person ordered large pho with rare meat on the side. He got a small bowl with meat inside. The guy was accommodating and replaced it. We were ready to pay and lady at the register said we have to pay at the counter so we did. While paying, I found out they do not accept credit cards anymore just debit or cash! This is what got me. I like to use my cred card for points and it is unfortunate they have this rule. Plus if you're sharing the bill no split pay! Also while eating I see a girl behind the counter smelling a milk carton and ask around if it's still ok. Another lady helps out and confirms it is bad. This should be labeled once opened! OSHA need to stop by at this spot! The soup is okay now. Not piping hot the way it used to be. Soup became lukewarm after a few. I hadn't been a big fan of pho until eating at this establishment. Now I actually get hankerings for this spot's tasty soup broth and excellent pho noodles. I usually get the regular bowl of pho with the fatty brisket but I can top off the medium bowl when I'm really hungry. Today we also ordered the egg rolls which were very crispy and yummy. Definitely wrap them in the lettuce and add some chili sauce in the fish sauce for a nice little kick! For the most part the service is fast, accommodating, and friendly in my experience (it may be because they always mistake me for being Vietnamese tho...) but today the service was pretty slow. The restaurant was packed during lunch but they seemed really understaffed compared to the other times I've come. There were like two or three servers running about but I couldn't tell if they were customers or not because they were wearing casual clothes. It was a challenge hailing down our waiter and he didn't speak English well so I was worried my order would come out incorrectly. (Usually the waiters are ready to take your order before you are ready to order). But all was good! I usually recommend this place to anyone who wants pho! read more

The service on the other hand could be better, the servers all had poker face and aren't attentive..
