Great pho and bun--consistently great food with fresh ingredients. Their broth is one of the best tasting pho broth I ever had--and I am particular about broth. Egg roll was great, also. I usually try to eat here every time when I am in San Antonio, and I wished I lived in SA so that I can come here as often as I want to. It's that great! It may not look much from outside (or inside décor doesn't look that great for that matter) because it sits in the middle of a shopping strip, but you'll be glad you tried the food here. Also, very friendly and efficient service. You can always count on their smiles. Just behind the North Star Mall off Rector in a sort of out of way. Came here looking for another new place to call Home. Walked in to find a more than quaint little restaurant. Kind of unassuming from the outside but still drew me in. We were immediately welcomed by a very nice Philippino gentle man. He went over the menu with us and when we ordered he knowledgeable recited all the ingredients in the pad Thai to make sure I wanted it all.... very good service. Once the food came every thing was perfect the potsticker were very juicy and came out sooo quick I almost thought they were prepared ahead of time. The pad Thai was not toooo saucy or daft at all... it was perfect I loved how you could taste all the oils from the fire wok. My first time here was amazing, a young man waited me and my boyfriend but the second time was disappointing. I ordered pho to go, picked it up, came home to realize my broth was not in the bag. i live far from here and did want want to make a trip back so i called and a cook answered and said i could go back or get the pho next time i go so i said next time is fine and that's it. Then i receive a call right after and this time it is a lady assuring me she bagged the broth which she clearly did not and i told her i did not receive it. Even though I have eaten here or taken to go numerous times, I usually order the same thing. It's their version of Chicken Lemongrass Vermicelli bowl. I can't stay away from this dish. It's hitting all my buttons. It's got taste, texture and temperature. Love the distinctive Lemongrass flavor on the hot chicken lying on soft, cool noodles, the crunchy spring roll, mixed with the cold 'n crisp simple but integral salad then I drench in yummy fish sauce and drops of red sambal. This place was good. We ordered the sampler appetizer, the Vietnamese sandwich, the pork rice noodle soup, combo fried rice, and strawberry boba tea. Everything was delicious. The only critic I have is that the rice in the fried rice was a little over cooked and I didn't care for the egg drop soup that came with the sandwich. I also ordered the sandwich without jalapeños, but it came with it anyways. Luckily they were on top so I was able to remove them. Overall the atmosphere is good and the food was good. They also serve very well. I ordered one of all the items and it fed all 3 of us plus leftovers. I'll definitely go back. read more

We were looking for Boba tea, and my husband's navigation skills brought us here. We just moved to the northern SA area and are heading to the airport to drop off the husband for a trip. It was accidental that we ate here, but we are really glad! Wow! Really good! My husband and I had the beef pho, and my son had thr sesame chicken. We ordered way too many spring rolls (usually they give you 2 tiny ones), but there were quite a few for 4 of us. My son also ordered a mango boba smoothie. He said he saw the girl using real mango, which was really nice! The smoothie was also very good although not too many boba. In an effort to not drive across town for my favorite hearty San Antonio pho broth, I decided to try out Pho Thien An. Seating: I arrived shortly before 2 p.m. on a Tuesday, and the dining area was about 30% full. Oddly, the girl behind the counter decided to seat me at the table with the most amount of traffic, right in front of the cashier, just steps from the kitchen door. Common sense? Not really. Pho: I placed an order for a #29, pho with two different cuts of beef. The most important aspect of pho to me is the broth. My broth could use more substance; it even had a strange after taste. Everything else about the pho was fine. Service: Every so often, the upright boba slushy table ad kept catching my eye with it's brightly enhanced photoshop colors. I kept trying to make eye contact with my waiter, and even pushed my bowl away from me to clue him in that it might be time for me to get my check. It wasn't happening, so I raised my hand at him to snag his attention. Boba: The girl that seated me was the same one to make my boba to go. I almost suspect she went into the kitchen to pack in the ice. On the way home, I was slurping half frozen tapioca balls, and after about five sips with two-thirds left of my boba, there was a 360-degree canyon of ice chunks that took about a half hour to melt. When it all finally melted down to the consistency of milk, the boba were still half frozen. My bill was $12 and change. I will probably not return unless someone I'm with REALLY needs to try Pho Thien An. read more

Came here again tonight after craving it the whole day. I got the #52 Egg noodle soup w/ wonton, shrimp, pork, & quail eggs. The regular size was so HUGE. It was like an extra large. I could already imagine how huge the large size was. The soup I ordered was very good but I only ate two thirds of it because it was just way to much, & it was only I believe $7.50? The waiter was very nice & kind. Our soups came out in less than 6 minutes & the place wasn't crowded. 5 Stars because they really deserved it. First stopped in to Pho Thien An to soak up some alcohol and was impressed with their Pho. Thought my judgment might have been skewed and headed back a few days later, still amazing! I'm not a Pho expert by any means, I'm not even sure I'm pronouncing it correctly.. but I've had it enough times to decide what I love and what I don't. Pho Thien An's Pho is wonderful because it isn't heavy-handed on the cardamom and star anise like a couple other places I've been to. It's just simple, flavorful beef broth with a big portion of noodles and a hearty serving of meat. Add in some sriracha, cilantro and lime and their Pho is my new favorite comfort food. What I'm not crazy about is their spring rolls. They're heavy like egg rolls and have too much pork stuffed in there and not enough veggies. I arrived in San Antonio today and after a long, many hours to get from California to San Antonio I found myself to be grumpy, obviously because I was starved. I don't frequent San Antonio at all, so today was a jaw-dropper for me. As I sit here and draft this review, I cannot begin to extend much gratitude to this establishment. I arrived grumpy and leaving refreshed, energized, and my normal self. The establishment atmosphere is par to that of your mom-pop, hole-in-the-wall kind of establishment. I didn't expect much in this area. However, the meal was supreme and brilliant to the tongue. As usual, this type of small-family-owned restaurant truly knows how to satisfy a patron. This place used to be really good, almost the best in San Antonio, but my friend and I went here again after not going for a bit, and we had the WORST experience. We ordered Pad Thai (at one point they had the best), and Boba smoothies. when we got our food we had to ask for utensils (none had been provided beforehand), and the server acted like it was weird that we asked for napkins and a fork. Then, the pad Thai was served with lemon and egg noodles. I would have been slightly Ok with this, except the when we ate it, it tasted like it had been SOAKED in fish oil. It was disgusting and nearly inedible. When we got our bill, we were told that we could pay it with the server, and when she came back with the charge reciept, it was $10 more than what she had brought. She explained that because we ordered Boba tea, it was more expensive, and she didn't know we ordered that. We ordered it with her, and it's not like we snuck to the bar to make our own, someone had to make it for us. We had to explain to her how bills work. The Boba smoothie was actually really good, but not good enough to have to deal with this establishment. If you go literally anywhere else it'll be better. read more

There is not any one particular reason why Pho Thien An keeps me as a loyal patron. After many trips to this local establishment, I feel the Pho is quite good, the service keeps food in front of patrons with drinks refreshed and the other menu items suffice. What is funny is that something as basic as summer rolls keeps me excited to return. They are great! Fresh in taste and appearance, these summer rolls complete the meal. A creature of habit (sometimes) I gravitate towards the aforementioned appetizer and the #33 (Pho with Shrimp). Requisite accoutrements are provided with plenty of Thai basil and I ensure my broth gets lit with Sriracha sauce. You will do well to try anything from #25-37 (the Pho) and I have heard the hot pot is fantastic but cannot yet attest to this myself. This, to me, is comfort food in the way your favorite taco dive is. Just a Vietnamese version. No reservations needed. No need to dress up. Just enjoy some tasty local Pho. read more

I am not in the practice of writing a 5-Star review but honestly, this was the first time for my wife (very critical of asian, especidally pho cuisine) and I to visit Pho Thien An. The food was excellent, warm, and delivered as stated. The service, as in most restaurants in a post-COVID world, needed help but the one young lady who was working the dining room did an exceptional job. The pho was well-portioned and tasty; chicken lemon grass delicious and more than enough; the spring rolls (my fav) were good. We will return!! read more

I hate to do this! Me and my family have been eating here for years but I feel like I should share my review to almost warn people about it. So we went a couple of months ago and there was a hair in my food. The server said it was from a sprout but when he looked again he apologized and brought me something else to eat. We got our take out from there again last night and my husband had a finger nail in his pho! I called and complained she gave me the managers number. He said I could go get a refund he seemed understanding. When I got there she wanted to just refund me for the pho but I had two of the same orders. I know it all comes from the same pot. I went to Pho Thien An for lunch; the place is small and quaint, but I was able to be seated immediately. The menu had many options. I ordered the #1 fresh spring rolls and lemongrass chicken vermicelli bowl. Both were excellent. The rice paper on the spring rolls were thin, so you could get more flavors from the shrimp, pork, greens inside. Peanut sauce was a little watery, but still tasty. The vermicelli bowl was huge! The chicken in the dish was breast meat, and perfectly seasoned. There was a great balance of noodles, greens, meat, and bamboo shoots. I would definitely go again! read more
