I hate giving such a low review, but I was not impressed. The last time my family visited Hawaii, we were impressed with Pho Tri. So with that said, we dragged our Vietnamese butts here again to eat pho. The waitress was nice and welcoming. I don't think it's bc we spoke Vietnamese though. She seemed to genuinely connect to the other patrons as well. The broth was very fragrant...like herb-y smelling? However, my noodles were undercooked and the chicken was falling apart. Like...it was very shredded? Idk how to explain it, but I was very unsatisfied with my pho ga. However, and I cannot believe I am even complaining about this, there is way too much meat in their pho!!!!! Honestly I got sick of eating meat and just left it in the bowl haha. They also give you plentiful amounts of vegetables and bean sprouts. Oh and tea is served individually and by request only. FYI, their "medium" bowl is the same size as a small in California. I was still hungry after my bowl though...and usually I'm not. Again, I honestly was tired of chewing meat so I stopped haha!! Went to lunch with some former co-workers in Honolulu. Closest thing in walking distance was this Vietnamese Restaurant. Definitely does not compare to any Vietnamese places in SF, but it did okay. First things first, Hawaii is hot!!! So I hate going to places that have table clothes, plastic covers, or any kind of dangling items that will brush up against my hot, sweaty, lubed up with sunblock legs. It is sticky and gross! Plus the table cloth was a little dirty, so that made it worse. Standard fair for Vietnamese foods. They got your Bun (cold vermicelli), Pho, and all your lemon grass meat dishes. Got the standard summer rolls that tasted just like everything you've ever had at any Vietnamese restaurant in some strip mall, so it was fine. I had the Bun (chicken with spring rolls). Tasty enough so I was satisfied. Bun bowls run around $7.50. The only thing that was off was the food service. There were 5 of us at lunch and all our food arrived at different times. Like 5 minutes or so apart so that was odd. Of course, we are all terribly polite individuals and waited for everyone to get their foodies before digging in. Thankfully everything still was warm or cold, depending on the dish. Aside from that, if you're in a pinch, in Waikiki, and need Vietnamese and don't have some kind of Slanted Door expectation then this will do. Here is a tip: if your a jerk, you will be treated like a jerk. The food here is my personal favorite in Honolulu. The balance of flavors and tenderness of the protein in the pho is perfect. I've done dine in for pho many times and on Saturdays they have the buy one pho get the 2nd pho for 50% special. That special is what brings in all the customers on Saturday because the restaurant is packed. The dining room service is pretty good but the wait time for your food can be long. It's a pho restaurant, I figure they would already have big pots of soup simmering in the kitchen. But anyways, their broth for the pho is pretty good and their beef is not dry and chewy. Okay, so here is a whole other experience I had when I visited the restaurant last week. I had to pickup lunch for some friends and they insisted that they wanted pho from this place. So of course I'm going to call in my order. I called around 12:30pm, the phone was busy. I waited a few minutes and then called again. The phone was still busy. I waited 5 minutes, called again, still busy. Okay, at this point I'm already irritated because it's a business phone and it's suppose to go through. I decide to drive down there and put the order in, in person. I get there, the restaurant was busy like usual. I didn't see anyone talking on the phone. I place my order and then pulled out my credit card to pay. The guy tells me, the credit card machine is broken. Uhh...okay so I empty out all the cash in my wallet and I almost didn't make it. After me there were 3 other people who wanted to pay with credit and then they ended up walking to 7-Eleven to get cash. I swear one guy said he was going to get cash and never came back to pay. So to all the business owners out there, if your credit card machine is broken, please get it fixed ASAP! People don't carry more than $20 in their wallet. Besides the whole credit card malfunction the food took more than 20 minutes. Hello! I'm doing take out, it kind of means I'm in a rush. I wish some places could do stuff a little faster like downtown. During the lunch hour you are in and out in less than 10 minutes and the phone line is never busy. When we ordered the beef and seafood "fondue," I asked if it was enough to share. I was told, it should be enough for two. But I could order more if I wanted. This dish is a production. First they bring out a small platter of paper thin slices of beef round and shrimp topped with slices of onion. If you prefer, they will also bring squid. Next comes a small bubbling pot of broth into which the beef and seafood is braised. Then a platter of veggies and herbs -- bean sprouts, leafy greens, Thai basil and mint. Finally, a small bowl of dipping sauce, small plate of rice noodles, thin rice paper and bowl of water round out the display. If you are not quite handy at making these Vietnamese rice paper rolls, your server will give you a quick lesson. After three rolls, one with beef only, then one with shrimp, then one mixed, I was out for the count. My husband proved himself the champion eater with seven down and counting. Touting nearly "zero calories" because it's mostly vegetables," he tempted me to have more. But I wanted to walk and not roll out the door. "All in good time," I thought. "It's not the apocalypse. I'll be back for more." Next time, I'll try the pho. But if you're even thinking about it, I'd recommend the "fondue." Very satisfying. read more

I have eaten here many times and I must say their Phò is better than some Phò places in Chinatown. I really like the fact that they give BUY ONE GET ONE 50%off PHÒ on Saturday, free fountain drink with any entree purchase except Saturday, free parking, and great customer service. Like other Pho places, the portion size are huge(1 large bowl can feed 2 people), the variety of meats are perfectly cooked and tender, the vegetables/herbs are fresh, and the broth is tasty and refreshing. Let's be honest here. We don't come here for the atmosphere. We don't even come here just for the pho. It's for the BOGO 50% off deal cause we all stay chinese lidat. The cherry on top is that the pho is actually pretty decent, good even. I would definitely come back for more on Saturdays... For the portion size, I would say that its sort of a rip off to come here w/o the BOGO deal $7 for small, $7.50 for medium. $8 for large. They also have free soda with any entree ordered on Saturday as well. I also tried the spring rolls and they were nothing special, as others have said it's two rolls cut in half, a rip off, so hold off! Take home message: Come on Saturday, bring an even number of friends and have pho and free soda for a major discount. Arrive early around 5:20 be by the door since it gets really crowded esp around 5:45 only a mere 15 minutes after opening, there were people waiting for tables already. Parking is tricky if you havent been in the structure before, its easy to miss so watch out!! **especially if you're turning right onto beretania from punahou st. According to my fellow yelpers, there seems to be a longer wait time for the food, I'd rather skip that part and part with say the $4.00 savings..... We didn't have to ask for our check, that came promptly! Price is okay for what you get, BUT, if I ever have to pay more than $10.00 for a bowl of pho. I'll skip it and reacquiante myself with Sapporo Ichiban ramen (5 for & $2.00 on sale at Long's). I can add my own won bok, kim chee, kamaboko, kalbi, and green onions. Writing this review totally based on my experience. Don't get me wrong, the pho here is amazing! HOWEVER! Please check your credit card receipts before signing! Or just pay cash. My co workers and I come here almost every week (sometimes twice a week) and order the same thing. We get a large bowl of pho and a small order of spring rolls and split it, my co worker pays for the $9 bowl and I pay for the $6 spring rolls. As usual we all go to the cashier and pay for our individual orders, since I was the last to pay I repeatedly stated 5x I had the small spring roll, he repeated it back to me saying "ok small spring roll, the one with 4? Ok $6!" And im like yeah? Sure...2 rolls cut in half = 4? So as we were all in agreement that I had the small $6 spring rolls, he swiped my card...I then realized I was signing for $9 instead of the usual $6 (that I ALWAYS pay for every week). I brought it to his attention and he was like yeah small spring roll $6! And I was like no? Homie this receipt says $9! His response? Oh, I add tip. (WTF?!) why would I tip you $3 on a $6 spring roll order?! Even your pre calculated tip generator doesn't tell me to tip that much??! He proceeds to speak his native language to the waitress..and I storm out in irritation. I had no time to argue because I had to rush back to work and I wasn't about to be late on someone else's incompetence. But that doesn't mean their food is bad, i think it is only because of the location. It is quite surprise of how crowded it is on Saturday morning and afternoon, of course, because of the half off deal. But, amazingly, their pho is pretty impressive. I came here for lunch at 1100 wednesday. I came from the makai side and thought it was closed as the door was locked. I walked 4 more steps mauka and the other door was open. The place was not crowded. Service was quick and pleasant as I ordered the large pho w/ meatballs and fat brisket. Side Order of spring rolls. Food arrived in about five minutes along with a free large fountain drink. The pho broth was really good and the portions of beef brisket, noodles and meatballs were really big. Great Pho, poor service. I had Eye of Round Steak and Beef Brisket Pho. Excellent, tender meat and beefy broth. Fresh herbs in abundance, as well as bean sprouts and fresh lemon. Took a very long time to get my bill. The waitresses do work hard, but there may not be enough of them at peak. They don't win any prizes for friendliness or warmth, and after waiting over 10 minutes for my bill, I went directly to the cashier. Not sure if I will go back. Went on a Sunday night, the place was empty and the service was still pretty slow. I had the small vegetable pho and my boyfriend had the pork/shrimp vermicelli dish. My pho was downright sad. The broth was pale and tasteless, the veggies were still raw, and the noodles only half cooked. Also, who serves lemon with pho? It should be lime, the lemon was weird and did not add to the broth at all. My boyfriend's dish, however, was superb. The shrimp and pork were super tasty and the sauce was delicious and light. Takes too long for the service. The time I came to this restaurant was my first time & also will be my last time. The issue is because the following: 1. Service takes too long for food to arrive. The time I came was with my son. I ordered pho while my son ordered Banh Xeo. Though, pho supposed to come out ~less than 5 minutes. Actual time for both my pho & my son's Banh Xeo came out to be ~more than 15 minutes. Takes too long for food to service. 2. In addition, as soon as the food is serviced, sadly the food we ordered does not taste too good. My son's Banh Xeo tasted badly--NOT CRISPY... Good Banh Xeo supposed to be crispy, not mushy like my son's banh xeo. As for my pho, unfortunately, broth too sweet (must have added too much MSG). Less meats in my pho too; in addition, the meat in the pho is supposed to be slice not too thick nor too thin--these meats I ate in the pho are too extreme in either too thinly sliced or too thick sliced. Overall, the one I totally dislike & why I have to give an unsatisfactory score of 1 star would be the restaurant organization. Bad organization. Especially, why it took so long to service our food? Therefore, please work on your organization. Sorry for this unsatisfactory comment, but I hope you can please learn from this mistake to hopefully improve your business in the future Pho Tri. Advantage about your restaurant is the large space & lots of variety of your menu. This place is okay but on my recent visit there, the owners weren't there but they had a new help that was taking care of the table. She had glove on one hand and she never took it off !!!! She cleaned table with the same glove, used the money register with the same glove and later she grabbed the veggies that they serve with pho from the same unchanged glove :( I was cringing at that point. Came for their Saturday pho special , buy one get one 25% off. All right! I ordered my pho with everything in it, and my niece and brother ordered the porkchop shredded pork combo. Food came quickly since it wasn't super busy yet. Pho was hot but soup was watery and I enjoyed the noodles since the weather has been cool lately. My niece was visiting from the mainland and not familiar with Vietnamese food. She started eating her porkchop and everything seemed fine. My brother on the other hand took one bite of the shredded pork and spit it out-yuck! The pork went sour rancid! My niece swallowed it and got food poisoning the next. Sent the food back and they acknowledged their misconduct. Food was replaced but that was the least of our problems. She felt the effects late evening and the next 5 days. Vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness and loss of appetite. She was put on a liquid diet for recovery. Shame on them. Shouldn't they taste their food before serving it to customers? Never again!!!
