I've come here a few times a year for the last 7 years. When it first opened, it had really interesting Vietnamese food - fresh, unusual, flavorful - I would have given it a 4 or 5. The problem is the food has grown progressively mediocre to bad. The pho comes with the usual sides of stuff but they are scant greens and not very interesting ones. Let's face pho is just OK without the toppings so the toppings make all the difference. Not a lot of basil or little cilantro matters. The greens in the rice noodle salads have also come to taste like one of those bagged American salads from the grocery store. The fresh rolls suffer from the same ingredient problems as the noodle salads. Further, the service has moved from slow to glacial. Finally, can definitely fine better Vietnamese food for a lot less in Beaverton It might still be good for lunch but avoid it at dinner read more

The chicken wings were HORRIBLE. One of them was under cooked. My girlfriend hated her chicken pho and could only eat about 4 bites. The waiter was very rude at the beginning. When I tried to order he cut me off and said "ladies first" while proceeding to look at my girlfriend and take her order. He needs to take a lesson in being a waiter. This instantly made me hate the restaurant; the horrible food only sealed the deal. We have both agreed we will not be returning to this place again. read more

Came here for a bite late night Sunday. I had the vermicelli bowl while my friends both had pho. They commented that the broth was very tasteful, however one of them wasn't so sure about the way they cooked the meat. However I LOVED the vermicelli bowl, it was the first time I had, had it out at a restaurant vs at a friends house. The service was great, our server was very set on us enjoying our food-my friend attempted to eat her food immediately, and because it was too hot she reacted poorly. The server was concerned that it was the food, which was nice that he cared about how it was for her. Although I do not live in Portand, OR I will say that I will return upon visiting. read more

Best Pho I have had in Oregon thus far. Thanks to my friend, HN. I had the Pho Ga (chicken noodle soup). As with any Pho, the first thing I do is taste the broth. So much work goes into creating the broth with Pho so I figure that the broth is a great indicator of the quality of the rest of the soup and sets me up for what to expect. Amazing. I tasted the broth, only the broth, of the Pho Ga and I knew I was in for a treat. The soup had a slight spice taste, which I prefer and loved. It was the right balance of ingredients, and it accompanied my jackfruit smoothie perfectly. Everything was in tune. I only hesitate from giving this place a 5 star simply on the set up of the place. While it was aesthetically pleasing, the metal panels that hung from the ceiling at the table my party sat was not practical and it was sort of an obstacle to overcome when eating the food as it sort of hung too low over a part of the table. I hear that Pho Van has multiple locations in the Portland area, so it will become my personal quest to visit all the locations. As well, I plan to visit this location again soon. read more

I order the #32 all the time and it's so good!!!! You can make your own hand rolls, add as many things as you want, that's including: Cilantro, mint, bean sprouts, shredded carrots, shredded cucumber, and of course, the mixture of chicken and shrimp "wrapped" in sugar cane. It's seriously the wildest thing ever and I might go back just to get more because I'm getting hungry writing about it. The pho is good, was it the best? No, but it was good. The rating isn't for the food because we didn't stay. They're open until 9 pm and we go there at 8:35. At 8:40 the server came over and we said we needed a minute and she said, (five times no less, in her annoyed explanation) "well, we close in 20 minutes", emphasizing the number by flashing her fingers at us. I was with someone who hadn't been there before and I thought about rushing them to make a decision but no, I'll just leave rather than be rushed out the door. Lots of places to eat in town. An early closing time of 9 pm should be taking into account late arrivals, though Vietnamese isn't all that demanding and 20 minutes would be plenty of time to cook and almost finish eating it. If they want to close the doors at 8:30 they should, instead of pissing people off with a bad attitude for coming in at 8:35. See ya. read more

First time checking out this location because my husband was craving pho. We were immediately seated which was great. I ordered the saigon meatballs (nem nuong) vermicelli bowl and my husband got thinly sliced steak pho and added meatball. I was surprised to see that there was not a combination option and appeared that the pho option only had one type of meat. The menu prices seem a bit higher then the more traditional Vietnamese pho restaurants. Food came out quick! My vermicelli bowl had very little noodles but was full of veggies (which was perfect for me). When it arrived, it looked like there was a decent amount of noodles but underneath was full of chopped veggies. I had to ask for another side of fish sauce because one wasn't enough. The pho broth was decent but there was a lot more meat compared to the pho noodles. The large bowl was equivalent to a small bowl at other pho places. I had the Bun Nem Nuong (Saigon meatballs) and it didn't have much flavor or seasoning. If there had been more sauce, maybe. The meatballs themselves were very dense meat bombs and no flavor. However the vegetables were fresh and with the little bit of sauce were tasty. Not bad, but disappointing. My friend had Bun Ga, and shared a bite. It definitely had more flavor. Pho Van started in Portland and has expanded into a couple of other locations. The one in Beaverton happened to be the one my sister has been to (vs. the one downtown in the Pearl District). From the outside, one wouldn't expect the elegant design and high quality food that is served inside. This is not a typical fast and cheap pho place; Pho Van strives for more of a fine dining experience. Everything we tried was delicious, but I felt they were holding back on the protein quotient. If I could have found more than a few slivers of meat in the (really tasty) beef salad and a couple extra slices in my pho, I might have given them another star. read more

Came here the first time during a lunch break. Maybe I'm too accustomed to the speed of pho in the Bay where the server comes to your table like 30 seconds after you sit, hound you for an order, go into the kitchen, bring you a plate of herbs and bean sprouts. Then another dude from the kitchen comes out with your food. This place was more like normal restaurant speed and therefore it was not quite the fast food we were hoping to hit up before we had to return to the training. I easily scarfed down my pho. It tasted pretty good and I was happy with it. It was our mistake to walk there and expect to get back within an hour, however, I also assumed the pho would be faster... Brought my partner back here, he denies it but he's the pho foodie king. I'll be happy with a bowl but he'll say slightly differently. I had to bring him back here to evaluate. This time, I had a chance to taste my pho. The soup was flavorful and decently rich but it was sweet. It's a pet peeve of mine that Asian food tends to be overly sweet or salty to cater to what the restaurant thinks Americans like. I also realized that the soup was warm, not hot. Usually I'm a big pansy when it comes to hot liquid and will take like half the meal waiting for the soup to cool down before I start eating the noodles. It's a popular place, the service is good, they keep your water refilled but they charge like $2-3 for tea. I rather have plain cheapo jasmine in a big pot for free. It's totally an Asian thing to have hot drinks with your meal as ice water is contradictory to eating hot food. It's like charging for water with your meal. That's my editorial. When my family has been out in the Portland area, we commonly stopped by the Pho Van on 82nd. My mother and I found ourselves in Beaverton and hungry on this particular day, however, and so, the stop was into a different Pho Van today. First impressions, it's a nice spot with a lot of cozied away tables and booths that don't make you feel like you're dining with the rest of the restaurant. Dark wood, culturally apropos decorations. It wasn't seeming like a pho kind of day, so my mother ordered a banh xeo, and I got the combo com plate. Banh xeo was big and hot when it came out. Lots of veg, and mung beans in the batter are an authentic touch that not all restaurants give. It adds a certain umptuousness. The combo rice plate was fairly normal, everything was tasty, and the pork chop was very well marinated. For Vietnamese, it didn't disappoint. read more

Literally the best vermicelli bowl in the greater Portland area. I get the vegetable vermicelli bowl with crispy rolls and it's 1000X better than the famed Portland Luc lac. Way bigger portion, way better ingredients, way better preparation. Can't rave about this particular menu item enough. Yes, it's a little pricey at $14 but when you compare it to other places it's worth it. Nice people giving friendly service, I'm excited to try other items. I wish they were open 7 days a week!! My wife and I enjoyed our dinners. The service was prompt, attentive, very well organized. I devoured the Bun Ga, chicken with vegetables over vermicelli noodles, and my wife was pleased with the Pho Ga. We'd eaten well, the quantity was sufficient, and the prices were easily affordable. Pho Dac Biet at $9.25 for a large is almost the same as paying $10 for a bowl of pho. From delicious $0.50 pho in Vietnam to $5 pho in Southern California to $10 pho in Portland? Not worth the price. It's like going to McDonalds and only looking at the $1 menu and paying $5 for a good $1 hamburger. This place was way fancier inside than I expected. Lovely decor. I didn't try the pho, but I was really pleased with the meat-ball noodle dish. I actually ordered it without noodles, so they gave me extra cabbage/salad mix instead. This worked out beautifully. I would certainly order it again. A solid 4. I had sworn off pho in Oregon because of my experiences in Eugene, but I guess Portland deserves a shot. I only came here with a friend who promised that this place was good. I'm glad I listened. First, the decor of the place was welcoming and clean unlike most pho places I have been to. It was a pretty large space and able to accommodate small and large parties. What I didn't like was the hanging art/divider. I thought it was a little awkward in terms of placement and purpose. It blocked a side where the servers can give you your food. Second, I ordered pho with tendon and beef flank. The broth was soothing and delicious. It's not as great as the places I had in California, but it came pretty dang close. The small bowl was pretty filling and I definitely felt like I got my money's worth. My party can be a pretty chatty group, but once we started eating there was silence. That's good sign the meals were ordered were good! The staff was pretty friendly and nice. The service was pretty quick. I definitely would like to come back and try some of there non-pho dishes. read more

So good that, well, I don't go anywhere else when I want good pho comfort. Today I donned my will to survive the service in order to gain access to said pho. Surprisingly, I was greeted by the staff person who is usually completely unattentive, and ushered to the table with his gesture of "your man" pointing to my lunch date. Considering how many times we'd been there together for lunch with no service, I was pretty amazed that he recognized us as a pair. It was a nice shift. When I want a good pho I go to the pho hung on 82nd, when I want some good tasty Vietnamese dishes I come here to pho vann. This is one of the best places for Vietnamese cuisine in the city. If you go to the location on 82nd they have 2 specials thats not offered elsewhere. First special is our favorite. A fried catfish that comes with a big plate of fresh veggies, herbs, glass noodles, and wrap. You dip the wrap in some water to soften the wrap for consumption, add a bit of everything (or what ever you like) in the wrap, then wrap it like a spring roll or burrito, and you got something that's fun and delicious. Second is a 7 beef special. They supply you with a feast of beef tasters and samples. its worth a try but the catfish is much better. read more

Now after so many other Pho places whose quality of Pho and other dishes has gone horribly bad, this place has become my Number One spot. Not even in par with the other Vietnamese noodle places in and around Portland. I can't really say that everything on their menu all taste equally the same. But most of the time, I go for grilled pork & spring roll vermicelli bowl when I go to a Vietnamese restaurant (the name may vary between restaurants). The place is clean and plenty of parking space. First off, business does not appear to be suffering, there was a considerable amount of chaos in the que area out front. Those wanting to pick up to go, those wanting to order to go, and those hoping for a table w/in. Our wait was not long to go in, and it seemed they were doing their best with all the activity. But.. prices have gone up and peanut sauce has been watered down. A little bit of a bummer, but I get it, all these extra cleanings etc, perhaps less profit on sales... Freshness was still there, but the little things, like hot sauce, hoisin you had to ask for, and received just a smidge in a container.. Absolutely love the food. Is a little pricey for my taste, but has a nice clean contemporary atmosphere that more pho restaurants need to work on. However, the service I receive when eating with other young adults of my age contrasts quite starkly with when I visit with my parents. After many visits, it's still one of our favorite places to eat. Over the years, I've noticed an amazing consistency to the quality of their food. (To be fair, we always order the same thing, so I can't vouch for most of their menu) We regularly order the #33 Nem Nuong - Grilled marinated Vietnamese pork sausage, fresh vegetables and herbs, served with rice paper and a side of peanut sauce (you dip the rice paper in hot water and hand roll them yourself). We also get the #51 Bún Thit Cha Giò - Pork marinated in honey and lemongrass grilled over an open flame with crispy spring rolls filled with minced pork and shrimp (best spring rolls I've ever had). It also comes with fresh herbs, marinated veggies, and noodles. This dish is pretty darn close to perfect. read more

The two star rating is perfect: "Meh. I've experienced better." As I unrolled my napkin, my fork had this huge dry looking booger on it. When I asked for a new one, the girl looked at me as if nothing was wrong with it ... I was kind of afraid they had just flicked it off and maybe gave me the same one back! I ordered the Banh Xeo which is a Vietnamese crepe like dish filled with pork, beansprouts and shrimp. The size impressed me (that's what she said), as the outside was thin and crispy ... until you get to the inside. My banh xeo only had ONE piece a shrimp, which is like the best part! It was such small pathetic piece that felt like I searching for a needle in the haystack. The pork was also over cooked, making it hard to chew. The veggie dish lacked lettuces, and was runny with dirty water... I've had my fair share of Vietnamese cuisine, and I don't think this place would make it in a Little Saigon town. This is a classier looking pho place in the area. I had different experience each time I came here. One time my dad ordered duck noodles and he said it was awesome, but after that, they stopped having duck noodles as it was never available anymore whenever we asked, but it still on the menu. One time a waitress gave us basically half glasses of water and even spilled it when she was refilling my glass.. she probably was having a bad day or something. The steak rolls with rice noodles is good and refreshing. I just came back from Vietnam last month and it tastes the same as the one I had back in Vietnam. This place was just ok. Nothing fancy. The portion sizes are reasonable. The prices are a little high for thr quality of food. A small bowl of pho was around $8.45. Service was fine. I didn't get my water glass refilled nor did they check in on me after I received my food. To me it's a fast food restraunt trying to be fancy. Service isn't the same like your standard restraunt. They just had you a menu and come back to take your order. The food tasted good though so If I am ever in the area and am craving pho, I may stop by. read more
