Visiting from out of town and wanted to get a quick, late night meal. Ordered a lemongrass beef vermicelli bowl over the phone and much to my surprise was charged $20 for it when I went to pick it up (way more expensive than listed on the menu). The bowl itself unfortunately had problems, the beef tasted underdone and coated in a lot of corn starch/filler and the fish sauce was very watered down. I got the pho tai (pho with round steak) and it was soooo good. Broth was perfect and not too sweet. Service was quick, efficient and everyone was super kind. You know you're in a great spot when there's laminated menus over the walls! My only qualm was I like my round steak a little more rare in my soup but I think that was on me not specifying to our waitress. Will definitely be back. read more

Been coming here for years and while I understand inflation is currently driving everything up was taken aback when their website - not Yelp menu - was not updated with prices or even close. Every dime extra they're paying must apparently be actively passed on to consumers. Ordered fresh roll that I have yet to try so my frustration is towards 4 bland, chewy chicken potstickers for $10. I drove food home which added some time but they were gross and whatever sauce was provided was tasteless brown water. The owner/manager has always been nice as is the staff but am SO over being price-gouged with take-out prices for something I'm better off saving 75% and baking/cooking at home via Costco. Took my wife in for dinner. Very casual "cafe", small tables close together. Pho Is the obvious specialty here. There are a variety of choices. Chicken, pork, beef, seafood pho. Our waiter was Vietnamese I think, and was difficult to understand. That's the reason for so many pictures of dishes on the menu and on the walls. Service was cordial, food was a non-plus and the prices reasonable. If this is the Pho King, the Pho King food isn't the best! As with most restaurants, portions are in inverse relation to the quality. The better the food, the smaller the portions. Examine the huge empty plate with several spots of food at its center at any top quality eatery, for over $30. We ate our fill this night, and had a quart container each to take home. Came in to one of our local Vietnamese restaurant for family style dinner. Host welcomed us with a huge smiling face that stayed on the whole time. It was delightful. This place is one of the few Asian restaurants in the area. Plenty of fast food places and diners in the area, but I was craving something light and decided to get some Vietnamese salad rolls and pho. I wasn't expecting much because this is probably the only Vietnamese restaurant in the area, but I ended up really liking the pho!! I order the one with well-done beef and flanks. The beef was slightly seasoned and the broth was really good!!! They just started serving Bun bo Hue and so we decided to order it. It was too vinegary to my liking. It was definitely more sour than other Bun bo Hue's I've had. Not worth paying extra $$ for this. You can just add chili oil to the regular pho and it'll taste much better I think. read more

There are dishes that remind me of both the northern, where I was stationed, and southern, temporarily deployed, areas of the Country. The brother owners are a kick to talk with. Dear Pho Viet & Cafe, It's nearly 2020, MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) is flat-out culinary laziness, and it causes adverse physical reactions in some people (myself included). Please clearly state on your menu that on the Pho Viet uses MSG! MSG is a chemical flavor enhancer that increases taste bud sensitivity, it is most certainly not a food seasoning. The range of negative physical reactions to MSG are not allergies, they are drug reactions. An MSG reaction can present from very mild, to very dangerous in some individuals. After I had consumed nearly 1/3 of my small bowl of brisket Pho this afternoon, I had to abruptly stop and ask my server if this bowl of Pho had MSG? He acted with a smug snottyness that I'm not used to from a restaurant, claiming that every asian restauarant uses it--he was almost proud about this. I asked to speak with the owner, and was told he was busy eating lunch. Please know, that the medical community has a name for MSG reactions. It is known as "MSG symptom complex", and people like me who suffer from your secret use of MSG, can have these reactions: Headache... Me Yes Flushing... Me Yes Sweating... Me Yes Facial pressure or tightness... Me Yes Numbness, tingling or burning in the face, neck and other areas Rapid, fluttering heartbeats (heart palpitations)... Me Yes Chest pain Nausea... Me Yes Weakness Not what I expect from soup! While there are currently no laws requiring that a restaurant must disclose their use of MSG in the foods they serve. Pho Viet should be aware that courts have recognized that sellers food products, including restaurant owners, have a legal duty to warn their customers about the presence of MSG. If the owner of a restaurant, or food distributor knew, or should have known about the presence of MSG and fails to disclose the information, then he, or she can be held liable for any injuries resulting from their negligence.  Sadly, I offered to speak with the owner, but he couldn't be bothered as he enjoyed his own lunch, while mine went unfinished. All I want is to make informed choices when it comes to what I put in my body. When you choose not to disclose adding MSG chemicals, and offered me attitude and no compensation for having to leave a bowl of Pho and with the owner sitting 20 feet away--he didn't even bother to speak about this important subject with me... It was then that I decided to write this review note. I will not be spending my valuable time nor dollars at Pho Viet in the future, unless some things change there. read more

The Pho was good, everything else was just okay. I called ahead and picked up the food. When I got home, I noticed they forgot something. My bad for not checking first, but when I called them they knew exactly what I was talking about. No sorry, no we'll take it off your bill or take care of you next time, they just said come back and get it. Their pricing is a touch on the expensive side , so they should be a little more accommodating. To give you some perspective, the sodas were $3 each! Expensive for no reason. Barely any protein in the noodle soup, they like to be cheap with the ingredients. Also even when the place is not busy it takes forever to get the food out. Oh they even charge for tea, maybe that's a Bend thing but that's nickel and diming. And the dessert, $10? It ridiculous, it's puke green color and they say it uses coconut milk. Best Pho in Bend. I was recommended by multiple coworkers in the back of house part of the food industry to try this spot and I finally did and did not regret it. Worst Vietnamese food I have ever had. Their so-called tiger shrimp was $16 bucks and it was something out of the freezer section at Albertsons. It had more grease in each bite than shrimp. The potstickers were hockey pucks. Deep fried and overcooked. Disgusting actually. The pho soup was mediocre. Nothing I ever need to eat again. Biggest waste of money. I wouldn't be surprised if they re-purposed leftovers to serve other guests. They even charged an extra dollar for Boba in the Thai tea costing now $7 bucks. Love this place whenever I'm in town. The food is amazing and they have plenty of options to try different things. We got the hu tieu which was tasty and fulfilling. I usually get pho but the hu tieu is a not as common soup that is worth a try. We also got egg rolls and chicken wings as appetizers, avacado shake with jellies and all were also yummy. And after all that food we saved room for dessert and shared the mango sticky rice dish I want to go back to Bend just for that. Never again. Ordered Salt and Pepper Jumbo Shrimp ($18.95) and instead was given coconut shrimp. We've ordered many salt & pepper shrimp from different places and we had a good understanding of what it should look and taste like. Instead without warning, they KNOWINGLY served us medium sized coconut battered shrimp (not jumbo) and when we confronted the waiter replied "we ran out of the salt and pepper shrimp". He look angry and annoyed that I asked. Why did he not inform us before making the food? I do not like coconut shrimp so it was very disappointing. The manager came out and confirmed the same thing, saying they were out of the shrimp we wanted. Why did no one mention this before serving us the food? !! He also said " Do not make it a big deal, you are on vacation. " Well, Mr. Manager what if I was allergic to coconut!?? Eventually he offered 50% off the price meal. Still not worth it! Under new ownership! Do not go by old reviews! Ate here last night and was very disappointed by the bland food, esp due to fact there were no fresh herbs always present at a good Vietnamese restaurant. Fried rolls had no flavor and were mushy inside, Veg pho was bland and the fresh spring rolls were also as well as served with a subpar peanut sauce. All overpriced as well! We live in Seattle and although we did not have the same expectations we felt cheated in flavors and overcharged . Cocktail for 12 bucks at this place? 17.95 for a tasteless noodle bowl. ? I also had a snarky comment from female owner saying the reason th ey had no cilantro, basil, mint etc was because the market was closed at 5 Not my problem! Visited Bend with a buddy to go skiing at Mt. Bachelor and discovered this place. We were there four nights, had some other restaurants in mind, but we ended up coming back to this place 3 times. I did not expect to find such good Pho outside of a major metropolitan area. The menu was comprehensive, the other selections like spring rolls and pork chops were delicious, all the other fixings like bean sprouts, basil, and cilantro were on point. The place can be packed; they do a good job of keeping pace with minimal staff. The owner who serves is one the nicest people you'll ever meet. You will immediately feel welcome here, like family. I used to go to this restaurant often. They have changed owners, and the food has suffered.....straying away from what is considered authentic. I ordered a Bahn Mi combo sandwich. It was barely edible and not they they are supposed to be prepared.....too much sauce....no carrots....no crisp veggies or japapeno, and an excessive amount of cooked chicken.
