I like Manoa. Although I can't afford to live in this elitist enclave full of university professors and others with generations of old money driving Nissan Leafs and Toyota Priuses, I can patronize the shops and restaurants in the area and enjoy my role as a "poser" Manoa man. My teenage daughter and I wandered in here for a late lunch on a recent Saturday. She ordered the barbecue chicken plate, and I had the large pho with round steak and meatballs. I asked for the smaller size, but the server (or maybe owner) told me it wouldn't be enough, and he was right, as the large size was just enough. The basil, bean sprouts, and lemon were the right amount, without wasting anything. The broth was good. Though it's not my favorite place for pho (the broth is everything), it will do in a pinch. Every time i come to Manoa i am always freezing cold! It can be super hot in other neighborhoods but looks like the Manoa homeowners pay extra taxes to have 24/7 AC in their neighborhood!!! Lol. Anyways, every time i am cold it always calls for a hot soup so decided to check this Pho place! Here the reviews: *Ambience: Place is big inside, it was pretty empty. Has a bar as well. *Service: looks like the waitress was the owners daughter, she did an amazing job! Most of the times i get a soup and a entree (so i can take any left overs to my office next day) but somehow she convinced me to get their 2 most popular soup items! Their Pho and rice porridge! After i got the soups i was like "what tha heck i just did?!!" Lol. I gotta recruit her to sell real estate!!! *Food: -Special combination (large $10.95) Had a good flavor, the tripe tasted a little weird so i would skip it if i were you. -BBQ pork rice porridge ($8.95) I was going to get the chicken porridge but my waitress insisted i should get the BBQ chicken or pork, otherwise it would be too plain... good call... and even like that i had to add some spicy to it so it had more flavor. My husband & I love coming here. They have a pretty decent wine & beer selection. Their menu is quite extensive, just recently they added a couple more pages of new yummy appetizers & entrees. And they always have the top 80's & 90's tunes playing in the background. We always get the veggie or shrimp spring rolls to start. It comes with freshly cut lettuce cups & all the herbs on the side. Let's not forget the fish dipping sauce!! For those that like a little more spice in their food. I recommend checking their chili sauces that is displayed on all their tables. Now, with all the choices I always wind up ordering the same dish for lunch. The stir-fry shrimp udon. Because it's so incredibly good. I'll mixed it sometimes, get adventurous by ordering the stir-fry udon with tofu or fish balls. But that's a far as I'll go. Of course you must try their pho. I love this place! There's ample parking, the food comes out quickly, they have a wide menu, and everything is delicious. The spring rolls make a great appetizer, and the sauce they're served with is tasty. My boyfriend likes the pho with steak and brisket, and I always get the rice porridge with boiled chicken; it's the perfect thing to eat when I'm sick. We've been going to Pho Viet for years. Their service is amazing and Queenie greets everyone with a smile and treats them like family. When we dine in, we love their winter rolls and crispy seafood noodles. There's no other place like this! Whether dining in or taking out, their seafood noodle soup is AMAZING! You can order it with rice or egg noodles. The broth that goes with this menu item is different than their pho... it's not as "heavy" but still very savory. Their pho broth is very flavorful with a light taste of Star of Anise. Sigh....I really wanted to give this a better review because there were so many positives and the workers were so sweet, but being truthful this place was not going to be a place I would remember to go to when I am dying for pho. The FOOD-its average, blah, nothing special. We had multiple dishes and all was the same. Just standard run of the mill Vietnamese fair. The DECOR-the place was so cute, huge bar, very cozy and warm....but....it was super hot in there. I could tell the AC was blowing, but I don't think it was blowing cold. Hot air and hot soup don't make for a pleasant experience. The last thing is the bathroom which is rather nasty and if it was not for my Spidey sense to look at the toilet paper, I would have been in serious trouble as their was NONE! There's a 2nd floor as well - not sure what's on 2nd floor as it looks like private rooms. I ordered the vermicilli noodles with BBQ beef and spring rolls. It was not bad. I eat here all the time and this is the best pho I've eaten in Hawaii. I always have #17, or their Pho Noodle Soup with Eye Round Steak and Well Done Flank. Their broth is flavorful and overall is delicious. As far as ambiance, the room is large and roomy. The restaurant is clean, but does tend to be a little dusty near the window seats. The lady who works here is very nice and provides great service. However, if you go during lunch hour, it does tend to get busy if she is the only waitress working at the time. I love the convenience of this restaurant, since there are no other Vietnamese restaurants near Manoa Marketplace. Also, Pho Viet Thien Hong is very reasonable - a large bowl of pho costing about $8, including tax. I would go here for lunch everyday if I could! read more

This was the worse Vietnamese restaurant hands down since I've moved to Hawaii. Normally I'm not overly snobby about food I'm definitely all about trying new things but my gosh, this is the worse place ever! The pho had a very faint flavor of star anise but it was on the sweeter side...not a fan of sweet flavor pho broth! I ordered the medium special and got one piece of steak! Yes you read it right! One slice of beef. They didn't even ask if I wanted my steak served raw! The spring rolls were oily, had no filling and I just couldn't palate the taste! I always thought you cannot go wrong with fried foods! I mean seriously how can fried foods go wrong? Well this place can make it wrong! I couldn't believe there was no crunch, just mushy inside and oily on the outside. No good in any situation! The summer roll had a shrimp in each roll, one thin slice of lettuce and the rest, you guessed it, filled with noodles up the wazoooo! Again no flavor otherwise, but hoisin sauce dip usually saves the day...unfortunately, in this case it was brown water sauce! The dip was the worse I've tasted! Ever! And then the final straw, I ordered the boba pearl mango smoothy. Well let's just say there is no mango flavor whatsoever! It wasn't tart like the guy told me it would be! Instead it was bland but more like lychee??? How is that? Then to make it worse, the boba pearl must be really old or something cause instead of being chewy it just kinda fell apart. Odd you say? Yeah tell me about it! I've never tasted anything like this, ever! This is by far the worse Vietnamese restaurant ever! Sad, cause I was excited to find a new place. In rediscovering Manoa, I found this Pho house in Manoa Market Place. Thank you Yelp for making me reconnect the dots! Also found the Manoa location for Bangkok Chef too! Anyway, I wanted to try this place, since I have not been to Manoa for a while. The parking situation is quite good, but sometimes quite bad, when it is meal times. Thankfully, I didn't have to use the parking since I take the bus most of the time anyway. Yay. Thank god for the bus when the price for gas is like going to be $5.00 soon! Thank goodness that I checked Yelp first to discover that the business accepts major credit cards. Or else I would have been embarrassed to have sat down and ordered, only to see them being a cash only establishment. With that said, the service was good. I noticed that this place is quite larger than it should be. I also noticed that this place has a tv mounted on the wall and the walls are painted PINK. That was basically noticable. Also the full bar, but no bartender? Probably that's more for dinner service, I guess. I had the beef combination large Pho for $7.50 and the summer rolls for $3.95. I was interested to see that the summer rolls were priced cheaper than most other restaurants, and I could see why when the server had brought it out. The summer rolls were smaller, but it was good nonetheless. The Pho itself was smaller than I thought, although it was a large. The lady forgot my vegetables, so I had to wait for the vegetables to come out before enjoying my Pho. The meat was lacking and the portions were kinda not there, but it was an enjoyable meal. It was good to have it cheaper than most Pho restaurants, but you get what you pay for. The Pho was alright, but it could've been better. I love the ambiance though. Nice and resonably quiet. We arrived around 4pm for a late lunch and found that we had the restaurant all to ourselves, which was nice. I liked the dim-light & relaxed ambience, and the fact that the music wasn't too loud to be distracting. I had the spring roll and BBQd pork vermicelli as recommended by our waiter who was very friendly, helpful, and all the above. The dish was pretty good. It reminded me of somen salad because it included the cold noodles, but tastier. Great dish. Overall, great service, yummy food, and I'll be back soon. read more

On our way to Tantlus we stopped here for some pho. The place was very hot and humid so it was quite uncomfortable. Also the plates they brought out were dirty which was a turn off. Husband ordered a large rare steak pho. It was definitely not large, he was able to pick up all the noodles with one grab. Quite disappointed on the portion for the price we paid. The broth was good but the meat was not. He also got an iced coffee and it was very watered down. Not the typical strong Vietnamese coffee. I ordered the fish sauce wings which I have to admit was very delicious. However, I was charged $3 extra for rice without being told since she had asked if I wanted rice. The rice was not good so I barely even ate it. We were still hungry after the meal so it we were very disappointed in what we paid. Food also took awhile to come out. Of all the pho places that I have eaten at on the island, this was probably the most meh. I really wanted to like the place because of the pink interior and because I was with such good company. However, my bun ca dish of spring rolls, bbq pork, and spring rolls with vermicelli noodles were just a okay. I think maybe it needed more veggies, because while the different components all tasted okay, nothing was super delicious. I also ordered a thai tea and that was a standard average thai tea, nothing special or different. I guess it's in Manoa, but it's pricey compared to other Vietnamese places in Honolulu. We were the only ones in for dinner about 8pm on a Monday. Their spring rolls were fried rather soggily. The beef stew was gloppy with too much thickener, the beef was so tough I could not chew it, and the msg made me afraid to eat much besides the slivers of carrot. The clear noodle chicken soup did not have many ingredients. Bf, bf's sister and I had a nice quick lunch here. I really used to like the Thai place that was here, but the owners had to close for a bunch of reasons. The set up is pretty much exactly the same as the old place. However, I bet the new owners won't have fun med school fundraisers, but that's okay, I'm sure there was a bunch of clean up involved! Anyhow, the service was really good and the food came out fast. They also complied to bf's weird request not to put noodles in (he wasn't eating noodles at the time). Their prices were quite reasonable too: medium $6.50, large $7.50, and x-large $8.95. There aren't too many places left where you can get an XL meal for under 10 bucks and have enough for the next day (although I wouldn't recommend eating pho the next day, it's a meal always more tasty fresh). Parking is a snap and there are plenty of other good places to eat tucked away in Manoa too. Overall: this place is pretty good. I've eaten pho in multiple places here and in California, and was not overly excited or disappointed. Enjoyed dinner here with friends. The staff are friendly and attentive and accommodating. The ambiance is quiet and surprisingly comfortable in spite of the mounted tvs throughout the restaurant. The green papaya salad was a little chewy. The spring rolls were delicious, fresh from the fryer, with the accompanying lettuce leaves, mint leaves, rice noodles and dipping sauce. I tried the beef stew with egg noodles, the last order available at 6:30 p.m. I thought the egg noodles would be the American style egg noodles like in beef stroganoff, but these were thin yellow noodles, somewhat like ramen noodles. Before receiving my order, our server explained that the stew included beef tendon, which was NOT fat. The beef tendon looed like solid fat, but was in fact tasty when I tried it. I ordered the spring rolls to start and had the lemongrass chicken vermicelli for my meal. Spring rolls: Nice and crispy! I enjoy eating my spring rolls with the lettuce, mint and pickled veggies, all of which were available here! Lemongrass chicken vermicelli: Although it was a rainy day, it was a bit humid so I opted for a vermicelli. I figure lemongrass chicken is a good way to gauge if the food at a Vietnamese restaurant is good, and this place did not disappoint! The dish comes with a very generous serving of vermicelli and lemongrass chicken. Though I would have enjoyed having a bit more veggies, I was pretty hungry so the fact that this place goes a little heavier on their protein and carbs was much appreciated! Service: Though we weren't initially greeted when we first walked in (we actually had to wait a bit before someone came out to greet and serve us) once the server knew we were there, everything was on point after that. She was incredibly friendly! She suggested appetizers, came by frequently to fill our waters, and was always very pleasant with a smile on her face! Ambiance: Not sure if we caught them on a slow day but for the size of the place, it seemed pretty empty, but it was kind of nice because it allowed my friend and I to easily catch up. Overall experience: I enjoyed dining here. The server was friendly and the environment was nice and chill. Before I even start, piece of advice to those getting takeout here: CHECK YOU CONDIMENTS/SAUCES!!!!!! oh my god, I almost barfed when I opened the garlic chili sauce they gave to me when I ordered takeout today. There was some kind of growth forming on top of the sauce itself. It looked like bird shit. Picture will be posted below. I'm giving this place two stars because I've eaten there twice before and both times were okay. The restaurant spacious and the service is usually pretty quick. The restaurant could be a bit cleaner. Everything feels sticky. My unfortunate experience with the sauce mishap today has totally turned me off to this place. It makes me wonder if the ingredients they use are fresh or even worse, reused! They had one of the "PASSED" stickers on their door. Someone in the health department obviously is not doing their job right. I purchased a beef pho and spring rolls. I was in the middle of eating my pho when I decided to use the garlic chili sauce for both the pho and the spring rolls. That's when I saw IT. At first I thought it could be mustard but then I realized it wasn't. I was so grossed out that I couldn't even eat anymore! When I went back to notify the staff of the sauce they gave me, the girl at the register asked me if I wanted another sauce... Uhh no, thank you!! I asked for a refund for the spring rolls because I could not see myself eating another bite and she asked if I wanted another order of them. I said no and they refunded me for them. All while I was telling her that they need to check stuff like that regularly, I noticed an ant on my hand. We were pleasantly surprised by this place. We didnt know what to expect as it's on the 2nd floor of the Manoa Shopping Center. The owner was very nice and sat us to our table. The place is spacious and very clean. One thing I noticed was how popular it is. There was a steady flow of take out and customers that wanted to dine in. The food came out fast. My son had the chicken curry and I had the beef pho. Both were very tasty and they gave a good portion of meat to each dish. The curry had a bit of a kick to it which my son really liked. Had lunch from here a few times - twice was take out & once I ate in. The first time I did take out, I called in my order of their spring roll & vermicelli noodles plate. So I ordered the medium pho with beef balls & meat on the outside. The wait seemed rather long, but it might have been because I was by myself and I hate eating out by myself!! Anyway, the broth was not as flavorful as I like, not even sriracha & hoisin (is it hoisin sauce?!) sauces made it taste better :( Service was pretty good though, only one waitress was working the whole restaurant - so props to her! But yeah, the pho broth & my almost soggy spring roll plate from the first time left me a little dissatisfied. The last time I came, I just wanted a side order of spring rolls to go, and when I picked it up and got back to my office, they were still crunchy!!
