    Seafood Paella
    Lily D.

Wow! Picaro is known for its paella and tapas. I got the seafood paella and it flavorful and cooked perfectly. I would love more lobster, but beggars cant be choosers. Plus, I think it would rack up the price. Also, their sangria was delicious. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, making sure I felt comfortable and I appreciated that. This comes with complimentary bread and sauce. If you're even lucky, there's a mariachi band that comes around playing music and this adds extra fun to the experience. Amazing food and atmosphere...what more could you ask?

Our party of 6, ordered 1) Albóndigas 2) Gambas al Ajillo 3) Trucha Plancha 4) Tortilla de Patata 5) Pimientos de Padrón 6) Patatas Aioli 7) Espárragos a la Plancha and a pitcher of Sangria. We shared all the dishes and the unanimous verdict was, everyone enjoyed these dishes. Gambas and Trucha are my favorites. The service was very good. Good ambiance.

Visited with friends and the restaurant was very accommodating. It felt like a homey, mom and pop restaurant in Spain. Everything was made fresh or seemed fresh. Our favorites were the patatas bravas on the happy hour menu and the sangria...pitcher. Tried the tortilla de patatas and that was pretty bomb. Bread had the same dipping sauce as patatas bravas. Pro tip: if you're craving paella, order it first because like most places that make it, it takes a while. The seafood paella was flavorful but lacking the crispiness on the bottom.

A steal for the price! Picaro is a classic SF spot, not super fancy but solid food and truly great prices. Came here for a birthday brunch (highly recommend uber for the area), it was easy to make a reservation for a large party, and I think half of the restaurant was booked out for an event as well. It was a little cold in the restaurant that day (it was December!), enough we all kept our jackets on, but the sangria warmed us up. Each item has a cash price, but even the regular prices are great. The hh sangria was a hit, 1-6pm on weekends for $16.64 per pitcher! Easily shareable with friends. Some other hits were: - the meat Paella (surprisingly, considering we usually prefer a black paella) - garlic shrimp (delicious sauce) If youre craving good tapas and paella for a price that won't break the bank, this is the spot!!

Long overdue review. Right off Valencia and 16th, Picaro is always a reliable and convenient Mission district choice. Spanish TAPAS! The menu selection is extensive, with plenty of protein- rich dishes. 2-3 tapas for 2 people is more than enough, if the choices include items such as tortilla de patata (eggs + potatoes) and gambas al ajillo (large shrimp portion with plenty of olive oil). Meals are served with a bread basket and salsa brava. The sauce has a smoky heat that really wakes up the appetite. The interior has a rustic ambiance with Picasso posters, flamenco accents and vintage style prints with a nostalgic old world charm. I love this place!

Picaro is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Not fancy, and full of charm and tasty delights, this place is conveniently located about 1 1/2 blocks from 16th and Mission BART station. Service was super polite but just a tad on the slow side, but we were not in a rush so it was not a problem. Usually come here in large groups, for which it is an excellent venue -- but this time it was date night with my wife. We stuck to tapas since it was an early dinner before a movie, but their entrees and platters are all excellent. This time we did morcilla, papas bravas, jamón ibérico, and grilled mussels. You really can't go wrong with anything, but their salsa brava and morcilla are the best I've ever had.

This little spot has been one of my special after movie treats for a while . They have a nice menu with seafood and paella . Spanish cuisine about anything you desire. There own sangria and a happy hour and a discount for cash not much but it's ok. The waiters are pleasant and considerate and helpful. I love their romesco sauce and their mussels , calamari and soups . Lovely outdoor seating and a back patio area . Don't forget about the Flan !!!

Came here for a birthday dinner with a group of six and had a really lovely experience overall. Pícaros is a solid spot for Spanish food in SF, especially if you're dining with a group and want to share. We ordered a great mix of dishes: the seafood paella was the star of the table--flavorful, well-seasoned, and generous enough for sharing. The chorizo with Spanish olives was a perfect starter, simple but satisfying. The albondigas were comforting and hearty, and the patatas bravas hit the spot with their crispy texture and sauce. The carne asada plate was tasty and filling, and the potato cake was a nice addition to round things out. Service was friendly and accommodating for a birthday dinner, and the atmosphere felt warm and lively without being too loud. They even let us cut the cake we brought which was nice. All in all, a great place for group dinners, celebrations, and sharing plates. I'd definitely come back.

the food and service was great! unfortunately i got mild food poisoning from the oysters :( would still recommend the paella & the garlic octopus was amazing. the $5 sangria were surprisingly strong. it was overall a good experience, just the one off from the oysters

Good food and vibes great happy hour. Highly recommend the garlic chicken entré, easily the best thing we had Tapas: Mushrooms, excellent Shrimp, good Potatoes, meh Chicken Croquettes, good Paella: Seafood, I thought it was good. Mixed reviews from the group, mainly on the lack of seasoning Dessert: Flan/Creme brûlée, very good Churros & ice crea, meh

You really can't beat the value here, especially if you come during happy hour -- a carafe of sangria is like $15! Even if you don't come then, the food and drink prices are reasonable and the portions are large. Paella for 2 can def feed more than 2 if you order other tapas. I always enjoy the grilled artichoke and grilled octopus. Also liked the beet salad for some veg. Service is minimal but gets the job done.

I really wanted to love this place because it's such a cute neighborly spot. We ordered a bottle of Spanish red wine to share which was great. We ordered the garlic shrimp which was fine. Their seafood paella looked promising but the seafood was really overcooked sadly. Honestly the best part is their bravas sauce that comes with their bread. That sauce I would buy by the bucketload.

This spot is super lively and fun for dinner with a group of friends. They have sangria and lots of fun drinks. There are so many tapas to choose from and the seafood was really tasty! They had the crema cataluna which is a lemony Spanish version of creme brulee. I haven't had it since being in Spain - so good!

Everything we had here was surprisingly delicious. We had the Paella Mixta. Normally when we have Spanish paella I'm dissapointed by the scarcity of seafood and the chewiness of undercooked rice, but OMG this paella was delicious. The rice was so flavorful and addictive and there was an endless amount of juicy chicken, tender fish, shrimp, calamari, mussels . We're normally done scavenging for the good stuff in a minute between the four of us , but we even had leftovers tonight which was awesome. We also really enjoyed the plantain appetizer, the plantains were cooked, so tender and sweet, but also had these nice crisp edges. Also loved the black bean puree it came with. Also ordered the cheese quesadillas which were awesome. The cheese tasted so good, I assume it was Oaxacan cheese, it didn't taste like a plain mozzarella quesadilla Warm spinach salad was surprisingly tasty as well ! Comes with a light creamy dressing that wasn't overpowering, and well flavored by the mushrooms. I even had them removed the bacon and it was still a very tasty dish. Because it serves as the Warwick's restaurant, it is open for breakfast daily, serving standard American fare plus things like a Tortilla Española (a dish with eggs and potatoes) and a Belgian Waffle. Breakfast service ends at 10:30 a.m. and then they close for an hour. I've never been here for breakfast and can't opine on it. But unless you're staying at the Warwick, you're probably coming to Bota for lunch or dinner to get tapas and paella. I have dined here a number of times, by myself and with family, and there hasn't been anything I've tried that I haven't liked. Service is friendly and attentive, although if it's super packed with theatergoers things might slow down a bit. The ambiance is casual. I recently had their gazpacho and it was really good. Among the tapas, a stand-out favorite is the bacon-wrapped dates. I also like the brussels sprouts and the patatas bravas. Their paellas are delicious. My favorites are the Valenciana and the Fiduea Surf and Turf. I haven't had the nerve to try the one with squid ink. Paellas take about 20 minutes to prepare--you can't rush perfection!--but I promise it's worth the wait. The "regular" size paella easily serves two. Three if you've been noshing on tapas while you waited. The large one serves four, at least. And yes, you are supposed to scrape up the crunchy caramelized bits that stick to the pan. That's called "socarrat" and it's the best part! Something that isn't on the menu that I recently learned: You can ask for a "personal" size paella for one person, which costs about half of the price for a regular one. The availability of the personal size is at the chef's discretion and it may not be offered at busy times. It's intended mainly for solo diners or when only one person in the party wants paella. But if they say no, you can always get a big one and take what you don't eat away in a box. It's almost as good reheated the next day. I say this from personal experience. They have a nice selection of wines by the glass, including house-made sangria (red and white). I've had the red one a couple of times and liked it. Please do not miss out on this gem!

Not sure how long it has been up, but hopefully they reopen soon because this place is great! Now, despite having bookmarked them a while back, I have to admit it took news of The Spanish Table's longtime Berkeley location closing a few months ago to finally motivate me to check them out. However, that's on me, as I had heard nothing but great things from friends who had been here before. As soon as you step inside, you're immediately met by a whole slew of products from Spain - racks of bottles of wine, kitchen staples like dry goods, rice, canned seafood, and spices, a table with samples of olive oil, fridges chock full of cured meats and cheeses, shelves of earthenware, cookbooks, and even paella pans in a whole range of sizes. As awesome as their retail/market selection may be, though, the food counter here is what really caught my eye. Whether it be one of their hot paninis or cold Bocadillos, everything sounded so good (they also have a mix of coffees and teas). Yet, after reading through all of their options, THE PIG & FIG panini sounded too good to pass up. Filled with Jamon Serrano, Campo de Montalban Cheese, Orange-Fig Jam, and Arugula, this was terrific! The jam and jamon made for a sweet and salty pair, the cheese was delicious, there was a fair amount of meat and arugula, and the bread was soft and lightly toasted. That being said, presumably because the ingredients are imported from Spain, the overall portion felt a little light for how much it costs (~$15) when compared to your usual sort of large deli sandwiches. Given how the challenges and obstacles that forced them to close their Berkeley location (and their Mill Valley outpost earlier this year) are likely present here as well, it wouldn't be surprising if this temporary closure becomes permanent. Unsurprising, but certainly no less unfortunate. Here's to hoping that doesn't end up being the case, though, because I'd love to come back again! FOUR AND A HALF STARS rounded down.

We chose to sit outside since it was a nice day in the Castro, and the parklet was nice and clean. The Happy Hour deal comes with 2 drinks and 5 small bites from their abbreviated happy hour menu. I got the white sangria, which was light and refreshing, while my friend got the Rosa wine - though it came out looking like a white wine so not sure if we received the right thing. Regardless both were tasty. We opted to get 2 orders of croquetas and 2 orders of the bacon wrapped dates - each order comes with 2 of each, as well as a trio of churros which came with chocolate dipping sauce. While everything was good, nothing stood out or was super memorable, and we were definitely still pretty hungry afterward. We ordered one beet and chorizo flatbread, which was pretty disappointing since it was cold, and the flatbread felt like it could be storebought and put together at home - we actually didn't end up finishing it. The mushroom skewers were a bit more unique and we enjoyed the pickled minced veggie topping that it came with, and the mushrooms had a good texture. After adding on the flat bread and skewers to the $45 Happy Hour deal, our bill came out to about $120 for two, and we weren't too full - since the food didn't really standout I can't say that I'd recommend coming here.
