Returned to this lovely, quaint establishment last evening with friends. Had not dined here in two years therefore we were delighted to return. It was a perfect Monday evening dinner. We sat outside with our bottles of wine - BYOB. The owner, John, took care of us the entire evening along with the rest of the tables. He was quick, nonstop and just great! We ordered a few specials including the sirloin with glazed mushrooms, mashed potatoes and veggies. It was delightful! We also tried the risotto with scallops -my absolute favorite dish of the evening!! We had the chicken dish again (forgot the name) but it was oh-so-tasty! We were there for a small bday dinner and John was extremely generous and provided us with a complimentary chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. It was huge and absolutely delicious!! The ambience, weather, seating, cleanliness and service was outstanding! Will most definitely return again and again! Oh they provided complimentary warm bread with olive oil, pesto and basil? We devoured that as well! Thanks for a wonderful evening John and an extra thanks for not kicking us out even though we sat there chatting and laughing after your closing time.

Returned to PB last night and John and his team delivered a very memorable evening. Warmed rolls with pesto and butter were so delish on a cold evening. Our appt were delicious and our group shared. The waitress complied and tweaked one of their specials to franchise the jumbo shrimp instead of scampi. Not every restaurant can master a delicate risotto but PB nailed it. Very reasonable check considering the quality and cost of seafood these days. We will return sooner rather than later Michele O

This is BYOB, it has Nice outdoor seating area that is covered and has fresh greenery. The owner was attentive to our table, brought out a wine bucket for keep our wine chilled. The service was good. It took awhile for our bread to come but when to did it was warm and served with a seasoned dipping oil. Apps- polenta with mushrooms and artichokes was tasty. Dinner- chicken parm was thin and crispy and served with pasta. The halibut special was served with a glaze that had green grapes in it. I was curious to try it and I'm glad I did. It was a sweet and savory dish. The chicken saltimbocca was a little dry and the sauce was bland. The last dish our table had was the special pappardelle with chicken dish served with a spinach and sundried tomato sauce which was tasty but just need a little salt.

We made a reservation for NYE night at 5:30. We were sat immediately and noticed that only a few other tables were filled. There was a host, 1 server and 1 food runner. We sat with the menus for a while before the server took our order. We ordered our appetizer and entrees at the same time. Warm bread and oil came out and then we were ignored for the approximately 35 minutes it took for our appetizer to come out. We had to ask for a bucket of ice for our wine bottle. It is BYOB. I overheard you can get wine delivered from a local shop. Everyone is friendly enough, but seem way too laid back about service. Just 3 people handling the front of house, especially on a holiday was wild. The place filled quickly while we were there and no other help arrived. Our entrees took a while to come out once she took our appetizer plate away. They kept saying no to walk-ins, but then backing down and saying that they could only order an entree and had to leave quickly. I feel like their food was prioritized over ours to get them out quickly. I watched another table get sat for their reservation and they waited over 15 minutes to even get menus! The food was very good and well prepared. The lava cake was a bit dry, but the creamy vanilla ice cream saved the dish. We had cappuccinos with dessert and they were delicious. If you bring a few bottles of wine, good company and have an open schedule, the food is worth checking out.

We had the gnocci cacio de Pepe and the squid ink pasta. Overall a very nice dinner. It is the perfect little byob restaurant for a quick dinner or night out.

After a walk about downtown Ridgewood, we wandered in to Piccolo Bistro and so glad we did! The food was Ah-mazing! Perfectly flavored and portioned sized. The salad was fresh as if the leaves and vegetables were just picked! The chicken Parmigiana and Francese were paired with the right amounts of sauces and was so delicious! This was my first visit to this restaurant and will certainly come back. The staff is friendly and there is light musical notes humming in the background while we sat out door in the warm summer air of the evening.

Situated in Ridgewood near the train station in a nice Bergen County community. Parking is a bit tough, so be prepared to walk a couple blocks. The venue is a bit old and outdated inside. Although we dined indoors it looks like outdoor dining in good weather could be pleasant . The menu was somewhat uneventful. Our group tried a bunch of different items which mostly stood out as OK at best The chicken Parm might have been the best, but would have expected one of the pastas to take the number one spot. Polite and attentive servers made the experience much more tolerable. The octopus appetizer with chickpeas and quinoa sounded great, but should've passed. The antipasto appetizer was a couple pieces of sliced meat, mozzarella, artichoke, and some sliced olives, and tomatoes for garnish. However, reasonably priced, and a BYOB in a nice active area of town. Our server was great and it was easy to get a reservation.

    Fish special

Fantastic BYOB cozy relaxed home-style place. Great food, comfortable atmosphere and perfect level of service. I ordered the codfish special and it was delicious. The other items we ordered were also very good. Warm bread with herbed olive oil to start, nice sweet and sour salad and then the entrees. No room for dessert but they sound great!

The selection of foods is limited. The food was not tasty and the server and owner/chef, were not flexible.

The first sign that something felt a bit off came when the hostess--who mentioned she was the chef's wife--presented the specials. She only described appetizer specials, including, somewhat oddly, guacamole and a Greek appetizer. Different, but not necessarily a dealbreaker. Since no entrée specials were mentioned, we assumed there simply weren't any. The menu is huge, not in offerings but rather the shear size of the menu was overwhelming. We were served bread, which was mediocre, and decided to order the stuffed zucchini flowers and burrata to start. Both appetizers were good. However, we were surprised to find that the bill reflected $22 for just four zucchini flowers. I don't mind paying for quality food, but that felt excessive--even for Ridgewood. We also initially received the wrong appetizer, though it was corrected quickly. For our entrées, we had the veal Milanese, which was decent, though slightly over-fried. Later in the evening, when a nearby table was seated, we overheard the dinner specials being described and realized there had, in fact, been entrée specials available. Unfortunately, we were never told about them, and some of the dishes mentioned sounded like options we would have considered ordering. There were a couple of aspects we didn't enjoy. First, the chairs were extremely uncomfortable. Although they appeared upholstered, they essentially felt like fabric stretched over wooden blocks--not ideal for sitting through a meal. Second, while the waitstaff was pleasant, it was difficult to get their attention for things like drinks, and the restaurant seemed understaffed. On the positive side, the hostess was warm and personable, even taking photos for guests, which was a nice touch. As the evening went on, however, the restaurant became quite loud. For a Tuesday night, we expected a quieter atmosphere, but it felt more like ladies' night out.

Osteria Sola gave our family an experience we will never forget…read more We held my mother's repast there, and from the very beginning, Massimo Sola could not have been more gracious, accommodating, or thoughtful. This was obviously an emotional day for our family, but he and his team created exactly the right atmosphere: elegant and classy, but still warm, comfortable, and family-centered. Our group of 32 guests was able to relax, talk, laugh, remember my mother, and truly enjoy being together. The food was outstanding from start to finish. This is authentic Italian cuisine prepared with real care. Every dish was flavorful, beautifully presented, and memorable. There was not a single mediocre item served. The short ribs and branzino were particular standouts, but honestly, everything was excellent. The service was just as impressive as the food. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely hospitable. When we went through all the bread, they went across the street to a local bakery to get more. When we were short on white wine, they helped procure additional bottles. At the end of the meal, Massimo even gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne to take home as a thank you. Those kinds of gestures say a lot about the heart of a restaurant. Every person in our group raved about the experience. Osteria Sola is a hidden gem right in the middle of town, and more people need to discover it. We are deeply grateful to Massimo and his team for helping us honor my mother with such a beautiful meal and such genuine hospitality.

The pizza is just as great at this Ridgewood offshoot as it is at the original Hackensack location…read moreof the Coal Burning Brick Oven Pizzeria......AND, unfortunately, the service is almost just as subpar as well. After visiting the Hackensack location recently, we decided to give the other location in Ridgewood a try as well since we loved the pizza so much at the original. We dropped in at around 5:15pm on a very quiet Memorial Day weekend Sunday evening and, as expected, the restaurant was also very, very quiet. We were only the 2nd group of diners for the evening, although it did get pretty busy as the evening wore on, including many pick up orders. We ordered a Caesar Salad to start along with the Combo Platter, which came with some fried ravioli, fried mozzarella, & chicken fingers. First, the Caesar Salad ---- we ordered it just to get some greens in our systems, but it was pretty much like the one served in Hackensack. The croutons in the salad were just cut up pieces of the bread that they include in the order as a side, but stale-tasting. As for the Combo Platter, that was decent, but the fried ravioli felt a bit empty, as in it felt like I was just eating a square piece of fried dough with no filling. The fried mozzarella and chicken fingers were decent, however, having some marinara sauce to dip them in DEFINITELY helped. For our entree, we shared a medium Tomato & Cheese pie with 1/2 Pepperoni. As I said, the reason we came here was because we absolutely loved the pie from the Hackensack location and didn't expect anything less here. The pizza pie came out piping hot, which was a great sign. Flavor-wise it was fantastic - the tang of the tomato sauce was delicious and the amount of cheese was perfect. Honestly, it was still one of the best pizzas I've EVERRRR had and I've had my fair share of pizza in NYC and New Haven. BUT...yes, there's a BUT here, where in Sam Hill was the pepperoni?!?! I encountered just a measly 9 pepperonis in total on the half of the pie that had it. Seriously, 9?!?! If I can count the number of pepperoni cups on the pizza, you better believe there is a problem...BIG problem. At the Hackensack location, we had the problem of having TOO MANY pepperoni cups, including 2 or 3 stacked one on top of the other. Anyhow, the pizza was still great, but more evenly spread pepperoni would have helped. Soooo, back to the service though. I'm not sure what it is about both locations, but the waiters really come off as rude - no "You're Welcomes", no "How is everything going? Can I get you anything?" Not much interaction at all. To be honest, not a whole lot of professionalism. At the Hackensack location, the waiters seem a bit more seasoned, but something still seems off, while at the Ridgewood location, we just didn't feel very welcome. Maybe we were being a bit sensitive, but having felt like we have dined everywhere, it felt easy identifying the "blah" service. Doubt it was an off night. Bottom line. The pizza is GREAT here and you definitely get your money's worth with the large, but don't come here thinking you're walking into the Cheers bar anytime soon.
