I never expected to get such exquisite biscuits on the pacific coast, but ever since I visited this a few years back in Portland, I kept dreaming of the sandwiches again. The sandwiches come piled high with tons of stuff, and better eaten with a fork and knife especially if you get any of those with gravy. When I'm not that hungry I also don't mind just simple biscuits and gravy; however I must say which the biscuits are excellent, the gravy could be better. It's a nice casual restaurant for lunch, much like a burger place like Super Duper or The Habit. Nothing fancy, packed during rush hours and could take a little bit to get the food. Best grits ever. Everyone wished they ordered these. Yum. You order up front and grab a number and find a table. The kitchen is moving fast and you have a peak behind the scene as place your order. To the right the biscuit magic is happening but no pictures allowed. You can sit inside or a covered patio outside. Food came out a reasonable amount of time. Add some house made Habanero Wampus sauce that makes the sandwich jump out into your tastebuds. Added a small cajun fries (at the suggestion of the cashier) and she gave me a Snickerdoodle (score!). Washed it all down with a refreshing Arnold Palmer. Tip: check out the menu online. If you order the Reggie or Deluxe add the Wampus sauce, really adds to the mouth watering flavor. I sat inside near the sauce for refills. Good music playing while you eat that biscuit. Thought about ordering a coffee but really needed something refreshing. I have been dying to try this place but on the weekends it is always packed!! We went on Friday morning, ordered ahead, picked up and ate there. Once we got to the restaurant our order was ready and hot. We sat on the heated outdoor seating which was covered and warm and enjoyed our breakfast. Wow! The sandwich was incredible. I had just come back from Memphis, TN the week prior, so of course biscuits were still on my mind. Then I show up in Portland the week after and realize this biscuit spot is right across the river from downtown? Count me in! I came here on an early Friday afternoon before my flight back to California. It was perfect timing given they close early everyday, and I've been trying to plan my meals around this! You order right at the counter and the food gets delivered to your table - for me, I got The Reggie biscuit sandwich and the Hash Ups. It takes about 10 mins to get the food prepped, so make sure you don't show up absolutely starving! The Reggie biscuit sandwich comes with fried chicken, cheese, bacon and your choice of either sausage or mushroom gravy. I chose the sausage gravy, and it was so flavorful and really goes well wit the fluffy biscuit. The fried chicken was pretty dry though, as it was hard to tear at. The Hash Ups had a slice of melted cheese alongside grilled onions and mushrooms and that too was really flavorful. Pretty greasy throughout - I wish I had a paper tower to dab up some extra oil, but I guess the grease does help add flavor to it! Overall, the biscuit and hashbrowns really did hit the spot. To say disappointed is an understatement. Politely waited in line to place my to-go order. First disappointment was the lack of grits - understandable. If it's popular, and it's 11am, I'd assume it ran out. Second parking is all street parking - we assumed it was going to be rough so I was dropped off while my husband went to pick up coffee. I ordered, what I thought, was a simple order: the chatfield and the Roscoe (with the bbq sauce on the side). I paid and was graciously offered a seat at the bar while I waited for my meal. But an hour later, with no one checking up on me, I asked about an update to which I was then told that my ticket was lost. As you can see, I waited patiently... for a whole hour... for a to-go order. I assumed it was busy. But the restaurant became empty and I still sat there without anyone checking up on me. So they placed a second order for the missing ticket and made it right away. And then the cherry on top, they didn't even make my order correct. As she hastily packed my order, and stapled it, she informed me that, "we couldn't put the sauce on the side for your Roscoe." Coming from the south, the biscuits are not as buttery as I anticipated, and the chicken was dry with an overwhelming amount of apple butter that felt required to make up for the chicken. The brisket was also too dry. I'm so sorry, but yall need to do better considering the hype this restaurant has. We also tried their blueberry pancake, which is made with corn meal - most amazing pancake I've eaten. My husband ordered the Reggie Deluxe with a biscuit, fried chicken breast, bacon, cheese, egg and their vegan mushroom gravy. He loved every bite of it and Pine State is the reason why I make mushroom gravy at home. I ordered a biscuit with a side of whipped butter and their marionberry jam which was superb. The biscuit was buttery with a hint of salt that was balanced out with the sweet jam. I had high hopes for Pine Street Biscuits, but the experience fell way short. The line to get in moved painfully slow, even though it wasn't busy at all. Once seated, things only got worse. One person in our group ordered hash browns with gravy. They brought the cup of gravy but never the hash browns. Meanwhile, the rest of us got our food, ate, and finished before the hash browns were even close. After asking, they still quoted another 5-10 minutes wait. By that time the gravy was cold and useless. What makes it worse is there was no excuse. The restaurant wasn't even crowded. When we finally canceled the hash browns, they didn't even offer a refund. For a place with a reputation, this was a really disappointing visit. They need major improvement in service and accountability. read more
