Service here was absolutely terrible. We were seated quickly, but attempting to get our order taken was a nightmare. Even after flagging down the waitress, who verbally acknowledged that we were ready to order, we were ignored for another 5-10 minutes while she went around serving other tables. The whole ordeal of attempting to order alone probably took well over 20 minutes. Even more baffling is that a party of older Chinese women seated after us received their food before we even ordered. I don't know if this was a case of ageism, but as college students, we were the youngest ones seated in the restaurant. The waitress, who was significantly older, was literally serving every other table but ours. We honestly probably should've just left at this point, but for some reason we stuck it out and remained optimistic that eventually she would come over to take our order. In addition to the long ordering time, the waitress was constantly placing dirty dishes at our 4-person table. We were a party of two, so the waitress was using the other half of our table to temporarily store already-eaten plates of food from other customers. Not only is this gross, but because of all the dirty dishes, the waitress later became confused and thought we had already received our order of xiaolongbao due to the empty container sitting at our table. Ping's dumpling house is an ok place if you are looking for a place with different assortment of dumplings. They have a small no fuss restaurant for you to dine in and a grocery area where you can just get a bag of dumplings that you prefer to cook at home (limited selection than the ones offered for dining in though). I got a bag of pork and chives dumplings (50pc for $20)..pretty much the most traditional type of dumplings you can get at any restaurant. I found though that the dumplings were just ok. They aren't out of the world or notably tastier than what I'm used to. If anything though..a bag of dumplings there may be slightly cheaper than what you can get at some grocery stores...but its not that much of a price difference that would make me go back...unless I want something more unique like lamb dumplings..etc. Maybe next time I'd try a rarer type of dumplings there. But if you just want plain original dumplings...I don't mind stopping by Ping's again...but also wouldn't go out of my way to go there either. read more

Several customers around me misunderstood what they were ordering. Steam vs. the soup dumpling. It's too bad communication isn't so great. She kept trying to see if I had paid, which I paid with credit card early before getting food. The food is okay. My crab and pork dumpling came out flat and the filling was mushy texture. with no hint of crab. After a while the dumplings stick to the paper (towel?) and steamer and when pickup Witt chopsticks breaks the wrap and soup spills out. Sigh. Ping says she doesn't like to put a lot of crab because it would give a fishy taste. So, why bother? The green onion pancake was just okay. Thin chewy doughy with crunchy edges. Ironic. My friend and I came off the Boltbus super hungry and saw this dumpling shop just a few steps away. GREAT, we love dumplings and ventured into what we thought was a dumpling specialty resto and ordered a plate of 12 dumplings, another plate of 8 xiao long bao and a dish of ma pao tofu just incase we were still hungry afterwards. We took a gamble with mapao because the dish often isnt prepared well, can be too sour or to spicy without any additional flavors. Boy were we pleasantly surprised by the savoury and spicy perfection that served to us on a platter of mapao. Well portioned mixes of meat, spices, black bean sauce and tofu pieces were devoured instantly. The accompanying rice rice could be more fresh. The reason why the rating was low was because the dumpling house's dumplings were sadly mediocre. The skin was thin and noticeably frozen and dethawed when cooked, causing it to lose consistency, fall apart and dump an unflavorful piece of pork, shrimp and napa cabbage onto our unsatisfied tongue. I'm a little conflicted on how I should feel about my last visit here. I've been here before the renovation and was not satisfied, but I decided to go to Ping's again after seeing the 15% off Yelp check-in but to only find out that when I was about to pay and you check in, it says Monday through Thursday only. I wish it had said that before people check in... Nonetheless, the food was average at most. This restaurant doesn't get a free pass just because its a "hole-in-a-wall" or a "mom and pop shop." I'm Chinese, so customer service doesn't bother me at all, but if your food is meh, I have to be honest. The soup dumplings were horrible. I got the crab and pork soup dumpling and every single dumpling broke already (can't even drink the soup how you can do for XLB). The dumplings were average, not special, I rather had boiled my own from the froze bags in the grocery store. The beef noodle soup probably and green onion pancakes probably saved this from being a 1 star. Not to mention they totally forgot about our noodle soup and pancake order. The place is like any small mom and pop shop you'd find in china town. It's nothing super fancy like Din Tai Fung, but it sure does beat it in both the price and flavor. The Xao long bao are much bigger than that of Din Tai Fung, and the flavor, in my opinion, is 100000x times better. The friendly host (possibly the owner) helped us decide what to order & took special care of our specific veggie needs. The tea served was warm & comforting given the temperature in Seattle. I went for a Fried Pork Dumpling, & Stir Fried Pork in Sichuan sauce with rice on side to share. The service was super quick, we could see our order getting dished out one after the other. The Pork Dumplings were super hot & very flavourful but we missed a good portion of Pork stuffed inside. The stuffing was less Pork & more leafy stuff, was a disappointment. The stir fried pork however was a winner, it went beautifully with the accompanied rice, had some noodles stir fried into it as well. You can definitely get the hit of chilli, but it was not overtly hot that your palate burns. I can see why this place got a 3 1/2, if it had to do with the food. We ordered congee, dumplings, and buns. Congee isn't typically something you come in contact with at a lot of Chinese restaurants, and I knew of it but, my girlfriend really hadn't. We both liked the rice porridge, me more than my girlfriend, but we both had the same issue. While good, there were large, whole black peppercorns in it, not something that's very edible or fun to chew. We ordered vegetable dumplings with egg, chives, and black mushrooms. I loved them, but I gotta admit, if you're not into that strong, funky mushroom flavor; these won't be for you because that's pretty much all you taste. The buns were fantastic. I let my girlfriend eat more of those because she wasn't into the dumplings. The buns were soft but still a little bit chewy, and the tofu filling was really good because mixed with it were vegetables adding a slight crunch factor. I'd come back here. I get the feeling the food is cooked the way someone's grandma would do it. And I like that feeling; it's comforting. I think that's why you order porridge and dumplings/buns; they're comforting meals. Ping's used to be my go to for dumplings. There's nothing I love more than a good mom-and-pop shop with home cooking, friendly service, and fair prices. I had spent months living abroad and finally got the opportunity to satisfy my year-long craving for Ping's that remained after trying several other rivaling dumpling restaurants. Was my craving satisfied? My experience was not everything that I remembered it to be. The menu has been updated, made to look more polished, and prices have increased. Ping's is no longer the steal that is used to be. Futhermore, I used to always be greeted by Mrs. Ping with a smile and friendly hello. She used to politely take my order and be very helpful during the selection process. This time, no one was anywhere to be found minutes after I stepped in the door. I proceeded to seat myself and she finally appeared from the kitchen a while after. Our menus were thrown onto the table and we were brashly asked, "Tea or water?" I know this is the ID and great service is a rarity, but having experienced it before at Ping's, I was disappointed. She took our order and then asked for it again because she forgot. The quality of food was the same. My favorite dishes are the beef noodle soup, pork xiao long bao, potstickers, and green onion pancake. Overall, Ping's used to be a much higher rated destination for me. I'm a fanatic for all things starch and Chinese, so when i came to Ping's Dumpling House, I expected great things. I ordered the Product and Chives Lu Bao and the Chicken Hearts Skewer. The Skewer I haphazardly ordered and I don't regret it for a second. Highly recommend. The Lu Bao were less ideal. Too much flour and too little stuffing. The dough also was slightly bitter and sour in taste. Previously I have tried their Qing Dao Big Buns which were much better. Maybe I'll come and try that again. Also, maybe with a mom and pop shop like this, the variance of food quality month to month is to be expected. The owner was the one manning the front and she was very approachable and friendly. The dumplings are fucking spectacular and mid meal I texted three people in all caps about how good this place is. I am never going back to dough zone or any other dumpling place in a mile radius as long as this place is here. I wanna eat here 5 times a week. Okay okay. We had the pork + shrimp xiao long bao, pork + fennel dumplings, chive + egg + black fungus dumplings, and a scallion pancake. Pancake had good color (crisp and browned), good layer definition. Flaky. They've a great pickled garlic sauce and a fermented chili oil sauce which weren't needed but quite nice. The pork and fennel dumplings were the best take on them I've had. Super super fennely and juicy. The xiao long bao were super tasty, the broth was hot but not pizza your mouth scalding and was a distinct and lovely flavor experience. The wrapper was super super super thin but didn't stick or break. Witchcraft. The veg dumplings had homeopathic levels of black fungus, but maybe we miscommunicated. Even if all their black fungus is homeopathic, I still want to eat here so much people wonder what's wrong with me. We came in expecting xiao long bao that could at least hold the soup inside of the dumpling. However, when we received our order, the XLB was already soggy and droopy. The soup had created a goop base that drenched the dumplings in a very unpleasing appearance. Additionally the pork had a very overly gingered taste that was not the most palatable. I have had much better XLB. Overall, the workers there were very friendly and cordial. This place gave me a very mom & pop restaurant feel which my friend and I appreciated.
