This place is a typical greasy spoon. With a huge menu, they have plenty to choose from but nothing can be considered great and few things are good. The staff is fine and attentive enough for a diner. In general, I have found the food to be bland and greasy. Their omelettes have always been over cooked and appear to be fried in a deep bed of oil (read: tough). Unfortunately there are not a lot of options nearby. read more

If I could give them a half star I would. First sight it's definitely a diner but with a 90 style decor. The waitress said about 5 words to us. The bathrooms were not dirty but didn't feel clean either. We sat at the bar and the waitresses kept putting their purses on the bar and pulling out their cigarette to go smoke. Visited once for breakfast, got a BLT and OJ BLT was a nicely toasted light brown, if you prefer darker you may want to ask for it. The Bacon was nice and crispy without being burnt, just the way I like it. Nice amounts of Lettuce and Tomato. The mayo was also in a good proportion, enough for a solid taste without too much and squirting out messy. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. Just please do yourself a favor and skip this one. I've been to plenty of diners across the nation, I just never went to one as bad as this one. We were driving down from Canada and got off the highway and after 15 mins of searching for a place to eat we spotted what looked like a decent diner from the outside. We went in and we were quickly seated, the interior was not so appealing (and was old). And it felt very "family run" which is not necessarily a bad thing. Not my favorite. This diner is average. There is nothing particularly good, or bad about the Pioneer. Everything is exactly what you would expect from an old fashioned diner that seems to cater to the elderly. All the food needs salt and some texture. Having said that, the food is warm and the prices are low so it will work in a pinch. read more

Cannot complain about diner breakfast! I always order ham and cheese omelet and its always yummy. The servers and slightly strange and not all that friendly. But they do not suck by any means. My family and I were staying at khalahari and this was the best meal we had all trip. My husband had a hamburger w/fries, I had a BBQ cheeseburger w/bacon and fries, and my mother in-law had liver and onions with mashed potatoes. Everything tasted amazing! My 15 month old had grilled cheese and fries and she ate till her hearts content. Our waitress was very attentive and down to earth. It wasn't a modern diner. It was a little old fashioned and a bit run down, but overall the experience was good. There's nothing like good diner food! I would recommend this place for lunch. read more

I guess the pancakes are passable. The burger tasted like a lump of hard meat and you can tell it had been frozen/ freezer burnt. The Scrapple was sliced so thin it was almost a piece of sammich meat. The gravy actually wasn't bad just lacking flavor for my disco fries. Overall a very poor experience. My co-worker wanted to know where I wanted to go for dinner, so being a TRUE Yelper, I checked Yelp. I found that Pioneer Diner was fairly close and got decent reviews, so that's where we went. I found that the booth seating was slightly uncomfortable, but that faded. I ended up ordering the home-made Hungarian beef goulash, my co-worker got the crab cakes, and her son got the lasagna. Also with my order I got the Manhattan clam chowder. I liked the chowder and I really, and I mean really, liked the goulash. Unfortunately my co-worker wasn't a huge fan of her crab cakes. I tried them and they tasted a bit "airy" if that's even possible. Being from Maryland we're used to some serious crab stuff, so this was a bit of a let down. The waitress even told us that the crabs in PA were nothing compared to MD. My co-workers son really liked his lasagna. They served a side of bread on the house. This place used to be really good. We haven't be this way in about 2 years, stopped in for dinner. First clue should have been the parking. They have a small lot and it was always hard to get a spot. Saturday evening and there were 10 cars and an empty restaurant . I ordered the roast beef, wife and son got burgers. Imagine the worst cafeteria food you ever had. Now apologize to that cafeteria because this was worse, sent it back it was truly inedible.Not sure what kind of meat that was, a rainbow of colors and textures rarely found in beef. This was my first time here and it was AWFUL! We ordered a fruit cup since the picture looked delicious, then they bring out a dole fruit cup and charged $3 for it!!! The small juice is literally the size of a shot glass! My order was wrong and when they brought out a "new" omelette all they had done was add spinach to the middle of the one they originally brought out which had tomatoes- something I did NOT order. Finally when we asked for separate checks the waitress acted like it was the end of the world and took more than twenty minutes to get us our checks. We are traveling with two families and decided to go to this bfast restaurant before our adventures, but when we entered this almost empty place, we were sat next to two other large parties. We all knew what we wanted within minutes of looking at the menu. The server came over and talked us down from ordering what we wanted because she thought we couldn't afford it. Once she brought our entrees, she couldn't remember where anything went. I get it, 9 people is "a lot" but don't get frustrated because an 8 year old can't remember what she ordered. I'm sorry if we ruined your day by coming into to eat but I think that's why you are there. The eggs and bread were cold, the potatoes tasted like the flat top, the "butter" on the cold toast may have well been Phase (a low price grill oil) ( gross) and the coffee was as bitter as our server. Just had breakfast there for the first time today. It was very busy (Sunday morning breakfast crowd). Despite that, we were seated within a few minutes. The booth seat cushions were quite comfortable. We were seated near the kitchen door so we got to see how often severs were coming out carrying food. I was amazed at how fast the food was moving. Servers were friendly and attentive. Food was very good. Classic old style diner look and feel. Typical diner fare. I don't often come on Yelp to write reviews but this place deserves more stars than other reviewers have given it. We get lots of out of staters in the area and some of these reviews seem like city folk used to world class fancier food. This is a diner, not a 5-star restaurant, and I'm quite content with the food and service. Nice big breakfast and the orange juice tasted almost like fresh squeezed. It may very well have been. Pleasant surprise. We will for sure be back. $18 for 2 breakfast meals (omelets, home fries, toast) plus tea and orange juice. Wife and I went there for dinner. What a mistake. I ordered the stuffed pork chop dinner which turned out to be what looked like a hunk of mystery meat doused with canned gravy. Wifey orderd vegetable lasagna. Hmm strange looking but we ate as we were starving. Went home and got really sick. Scary sick.
