I'll keep this one short and simple... This mom & pop establishment has been around for a while, as an annex of the hospital building, and boy do they deserve to be there. I consistently see people who have already established this as their go-to for a quick, filling, and reasonably priced lunch. The menu is simple and straightforward, the service is top-notch and very friendly. The food kind of threw me off initially (the filling's texture isn't quite what I expected.) but I have nothing to complain about with the flavor. The dough isn't really all that flaky, but it's buttery and soft, which is nice. I also occasionally get their dumplings, half beef and half chicken. They're really good for a cold day and the beef ones go really well with some sour cream. Nothing to complain about here! Love this place, and I hope they stay around. Last week I finally got to try my first piroshki, and I was sadly disappointed. I largely blame this on all the rave reviews I heard from friends and from Yelp, because the piroshki was indeed tasty, but I didn't think it was anything particularly heaven-sent and I found it a little pricey. I think mine was somewhere between $5 - 6, and reminded me of the hot buns (I know, I know, she said buns, get over it) I used to get at the Chinese grocery store for half the price. My wife and I have been around Swedish quite a bit recently for all of the baby stuff, so we have passed by this place over and over and over again only to see it closed. Took my Mom to a Dr's appt at Swedish and saw this place when I pulled into park and thought this would be a quick, great place to get take-out. Guess what? I was right! My son and I stopped in here for lunch today. Very crowded so you know thats a good sign. Quant little spot connected to the hospital. Not to many spots to, they do have a few bar stools; we took our food to go. We order the soup special, mushroom barley and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Super fresh and tasty. I absolutely love this place. Usually about once a week I leave my sphere at Seattle U and wonder up to this place for lunch. The food is awesome and cheap. The place isn't very big and during lunch hours can get a bit busy. However, the food is always served nice and hot - you wait about 2-5 minutes while they put the piroshki into an oven to warm it. The man who works there is amazing. He knows you after a few visits and will remember you for a long time. I stopped going back in April and went in today and he remembered my friend and I and even asked where the other 2 people who normally joined us were! I was thoroughly impressed. Oh yum. These hearty pockets of simple food heaven should be available in every city. Sadly they are not. So I make sure to stuff away as many as possible here. The spinach, egg and cheese is phenomenal. Same with the beef, potato and cheese. The potato and cheese, usually addictive despite its simplicity, was a little bland on this trip. (They skimped on the crack, which I think is actually dill.) The smoked salmon and cream cheese, in a pastry endearingly shaped like a fish, is a rich and wonderful treat. The borscht (vivid fuchsia beet-and-cabbage soup) is the perfect winter warmer; don't skimp on the sour cream. If someone forced me to choose five foods to live on, it's possible I would use them all here. The Bavarian sausage is like a very good hot dog wrapped in piroshky dough. Not my favorite of the offerings, but tasty nonetheless. I don't like the lunchmeat-sounding ones (turkey and cheese, ham and cheese) or the ham, egg and cheese (the spinach, egg and cheese is the much better sorta-breakfasty choice). The place is tiny, but I've never had a problem getting a seat during lunch. They serve piroshkys of many kinds, but I usually just go with whatever has recently come out of the oven. Stopped in here recently for the first of what will become many visits. I went with one savory piroshki and one dessert. The bread of the piroshki was delicious, chewy, and ever-so-slightly sweet, and the filling was hearty and tasty. Perfect comfort food. Way better than that place on Pike Place. It's very friendly, the food is hot, and on a cold day there's nothing better. My favorite is the beef, potato, and cheese. This my most favorite breakfast/lunch when I worked in the area. The service is ALWAYS quick and spot on. Coffee is okay but it's all about the piroshkis. Just little bundles of yumminess. The seating is really pretty slim but no worries. Just take it to go and find an interesting place to sit and watch the world go by while you savor the perfection that is the piroshki. Environment: Clean, easy to find and no lines on a Monday morning around 10am. Customer service: staff who took my order and packaged my food was very accommodating, friendly, and informative. He kept telling me to make sure i reheated the piroshky in the microwave for 20 secs before eating them. Food: I ordered the beef/cheese, salmon, and corned beef/cheese. i really enjoyed the beef and corned beef one, but the salmon one just had a spread with a salmon flavor. There might have been actual salmon in it but I couldn't tell. Price: Each piroshky was about $5, which in my opinion is a little overpriced for a pastry with meat in it. Amazing! The bread is perfect in every way. I've been here twice and its a perfect experience each time. Corned beef here is delectable. The borsch is quite awesome as well! I had no idea what it was or what was even in it before I ordered it, I just knew it was a soup I couldn't pronounce properly. This place is on my way to work so if I'm hungry I stop on by. Piroshki is $5 something each and is pretty big. My favorite piroshki so far has to be the salmon and cream cheese. I also tried the polish sausage and it was pretty good. Today I tried the mushroom, cheese, and spinach piroshki, it didn't have much taste but ok. While I was in line, the guy in front of me had some type of coffee and the worker quickly made one of those fancy designs in the froth. I thought it was really cool! I have to go to the Swedish First Hill campus for some pretty un-fun tests and procedures, and I used to complain about it a LOT because I live all the way out in North Bend and Seattle traffic is the worst. But no more will I complain, because on my last visit, we discovered Piroshki on Madison. These treats can make you look forward to a urodynamic study... or at least the after-visit snack. 2 years ago, Piroshky on Madison was one of the 1st meals I had when interviewing for new jobs in Seattle. It was the 1st place I returned to once I moved, and I was delighted when my office was located nearby. The Staff are amazing! The moment I walk through they door, they know exactly what I normally order. The food is fresh, tastes/smells incredible and the dessert + coffee is to die for in its own right. If you're looking for a place to grab a quick lunch, these peroshkis are delicious and really hit the spot. The outer bread is slightly sweet and very soft and fluffy, and there are many combinations of seemingly simple fillings that are all very flavorful, so you can order depending on what you like. I can see why this place has good reviews. First off there is a very nice lady here and everything in the case looked so good. I had already been to Top Pot for a chai tea and a pumpkin donut so I was full but couldn't leave without trying something. Everyone said the Salmon and Cream Cheese one was the best and I was reassured by the lady that it was the most popular one. This being a Saturday there was still a few left. So my friend got one and we kept on walking and tried it when we got closer to the ferry after it cooled down. It was very rich and creamy inside and was delicious. The salmon flavor was strong and the bread yummy. I only had a bite but if you are hungry this would certainly fill you up. I was bummed I didn't get a photo since it was so cute in the shape of a fish.
