Really great place for lunch. I love their falafel plate, but my husband and friends love the meats. Really fresh, great service. The rice is amazing and the hummus is so ridiculously good. The baklava is made on site and is addictive. I eat a piece with my lunch and then take some home. I live five minutes from a Pita Guys, but I will drive three times that far to eat here. Ordered the lamb plate, they served me the beef plate. I was already part way into it when I realized it was different, so I continued to eat it. There was some sort of cold beige colored sauce that basically tasted like soil. Salad was good, and the beef was actually pretty good too. The man calling out the orders for pickup had such a heavy accent that he had to call out mine 3 times before I understood what he said. They just opened. And this got a glowing review from the local postal annex. As well as customers inside the store. So my continuing quest for good Shawarma in this neighborhood is still on. I ordered the plate. And noticed because they just open many of the tips of the tri-tip lamb were burnt. So I asked for rare, and they asked me if pinkish was OK. And I said yes. What I got were tips that were burned and a few that were well done. But nothing pinkish. It seems strange to me. I can't ask for what I want. And although I ask for what I want, and they agree, they give me whatever the hell they want. The tahini was pretty tasteless. And so was the hummus. Nothing here is spectacular. I believe their concept is streamlined Mediterranean food so it's not as authentic (for example: the rice), but still satisfied my craving. The toasted nuts are a nice touch. Chicken & Lamb shawarma plates come with a generous portion of food & the wait time is 10-15 minutes. You can also call & order ahead so it's ready by the time you're there. Definitely recommend the Baba Ghanouj over the Hummus, because the roasted eggplant flavor really jazzes things up. I ordered the Low Carb plate which was basically a healthy pile of protein over a Medeteranian salad and a huge portion of tabouleh. It was a full meal on a plate. - Friendly service. I would say that the service is a big positive here. - One thing that hasn't changed is the interior, it's dated. The floors, tables, and paint all need to be refreshed. Wow! Who'd ever guess so much flavor could be packed in this little place. I was on my way to Subway (next door) when the sign advertising Mediterranean food caught my eye. This triggered a memory of a news clip about "blue zones" where people commonly live past 100 years old. I decided I'd add a few months to my life by having my lunch here. I ordered the beef kabob plate. The guy behind the counter was one of the owners, Sam. He informed me that everything is made fresh: from the hummus to the hot sauce. The kabobs were spectacular! From the first bite I started plotting to bring some home for dinner on the sly, and then take the credit for cooking something so amazing. I pictured my family jumping up at the table to give me a standing ovation... But then my conscious kicked in and I decided it would be wrong for me to become a GYRO for something I didn't do, so decided to I would settle with a pat on the back for discovering the place and letting my family experience it. Everything was fantastic. The rice with almonds was amazing (not minute rice), the salad was fresh and green (not iceberg), the tomatoes look like they came from my backyard garden, I even loved the yogurt cucumber stuff... Service and prices were good. Clean looking place. Went in to get lunch to take to work. Ordered lamb shwarama. Got it and left put the sandwich in my cooler Come lunchtime, I didn't have lamb. No I had been given the wrong order. I was only person in the place at the time so no mix up there. It was steak. That was so oversauced, I couldn't taste the meat. Few hours later, I'm in the bathroom at work, not doing very well and I'll leave it at that. Before you say it could have been something else, that was the ONLY FOOD I had consumed that day. Hate to write bad reviews - hate it, hate it, hate it - however, I think I must for this reason. I really want to support our local restaurants during this nightmare. As a restaurant person myself, the current state of affairs is tragic to say the least. So back to my point. I'm writing this so that you don't waste your money on independents that don't appreciate your patronage. There's a lot more out there that do. Ordered Pita's through DoorDash last. Order was mostly correct but missing some essentials. After receiving the order, we called, only to get a response, "we're closed" CLICK. Called back and got the privilege to speak to "Mo Johnson" - position unspecified. "Mo" proceeded to be unsympathetic to our order discrepancies and condescending. The overall poor attitude of "Mo" and the sub-par quality of the food leads me to this conclusion. There are a lot of hurting, gracious restaurants out there that would love your business. Pita's doesn't appear to be one of them so don't waste your time or money on subpar food and service. Sorry Pita's... your customers deserve better. read more

Personally, I love Pita's Mediterranean Grill. At one point I ate here once or twice a week. The food is always on point and I love the customer service. You can tell this family owner business prides itself in keeping its customers satisfied and are quick to help you if you have any problems. The meat is always juicy and well seasoned. The rice is always cooked to perfection. I love the salad, it's so refreshing and the sliced almonds they add and I will always have this on my top 10 places to eat. If you're having second thoughts, I'd recommend giving them a try! Me and my mom both go here. It's worth the price. I've even have my nieces try and as picky as they are, they love it. We've been going to Pitas for years and over time it's gotten worse. The service sucks and they rip their customers off. Tonight specifically my mom ordered 2 bags of pita chips and they barely filled the bag. Then my mom asked for a container of the yogurt sauce and they gave us tiny little containers. My mom asked for more and the person behind the counter rolled their eyes and half filled 3 more small containers. We want what we paid for. I love shawarma and its not exactly easy to find in San Diego... Plenty of restaurants serve a clasic Gyro, Shawarma has that sweeter taste with spices. This place does an excellent job all the way around i.e. humas, fulafel, lamb, etc. I couldnt resist the dozen falafel deal... a little over done to my taste, but they were delicious! There is indoor and outdoor seating. The day I was there, they had house music playing (which my 5 year old was loving, I think it was his first time hearing it). Service was on par with a wait time around 5 minutes for everything to be made fresh. You can see the whole kitchen, so you know the food is coming. My daughter like watching the meat getting cut. Seats maybe 50 people at most so its not a big place at all; I'd say half of their restaurant is the kitchen and the other half is for the guests. We came in around noon and it wasn't busy at all. I went with their Chicken Shawarma sandwich for about $7. It came with pita chips, a couple dipping sauces and the sandwich itself was about the size of a carne asada burrito so I thought it was a good value! The chicken was really good and they give you this orange sauce on the side that adds a little spice to it that just takes it to another level! This is my second time eating from this place. My first time, I had the chicken bowl, which was delicious. Tonight, I thought of having the chicken and rice again, but with the full order (the plate). The quantity of food didn't disappoint at all, very generous with the chicken. However, my only gripe with dinner was that the chicken was a little dry and very salty tonight. The only explanation I can think of is that, maybe I visited when it was 30 mins to closing, and I was served the end pieces from the pot of chicken. I'll visit this place again, just to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'll also update this review if it gets better Update (04/23/18): So...just had the chicken shawarma plate again. Had an early dinner. Again, portions were very generous and delicious, but the chicken was a little salty. Not as bad as the other night (30 mins before closing), but was still salty. First thing I must confess is I do not like falafel. I find it dry and boring. I am not a meat eater so what else do you get at a Mediterranean restaurant? I decided "what the heck" and got a falafel pita. It was amazing. I complimented the owner about it and he said he would make me even better falafel the next time I came. I also got the baklava for dessert. I have a sweet tooth. I have eaten baklava all over the world and even in Greece. Hands down this was the best baklava I ever had.
