Not even the best in SF
    Juan V.

San Francisco is the place for the best pizza in the West Coast. San Francisco is one the best pizza places in the America. There are lots of different places all around San Francisco to grab a pie or slice. It seems many versions of pizza have landed in San Francisco and has been remixed to the flavor of the city. When it comes to access to pizza some places have limited options. In the tourist trap known as Fisherman's Wharf I can count on one hand where a pizza place is located and still have some fingers left. One place claims it's the best pizza in the West ( it's says it on their building) and it's called Pizza Zone. On a San Francisco Summer Autumn Stroll and about two weeks away from Winter on the Beach ( Not North Beach ) street to examine the claim of best pizza in the West. I stepped inside and it has few tables inside. I had to order a simple slice to get the true taste of the pizza. I ordered an extra cheese slice. Let me tell you it was one of the cheesiest in SF. This is the type of pizza you would eat at 3:04 am after all restaurants are closed. I would have this type of pizza after a few adult drinks when there are no other pizza places open. The pizza definitely was not the best in the West and without doubt not the best in the Fisherman's Wharf area and they are open until midnight on the weekends. It's the only pizza game in the area and it's okay to grab a slice of pizza if you are tired of eating In-N-Out burgers and fries which is a block away. There is "post "of a sign which "boast" about having the best pizza West "Coast"but the pizza was more like cheesy bread "toast" Pineapple on my pizza I don't "condone" you never see it snapped picture of that on my " phone" but the slices with extra cheese are cheesy like a "calzone " in SF at Fisherman's Wharf at the "Pizza Zone"

Review #897 Posted on 7.1.25 We came to Pizza Zone for a late night snack on Saturday night the 28th after some fun in the City. This spot is located right on Beach across the street from the Marriott. It's seconds from Fisherman's Wharf. The guy working late is a super nice guy, and they stay open until midnight. The late night pizza hit the spot. They made the pie custom right then & there, nice & fresh. The crust is thin too which is my preference, too much dough ruins a pizza. They also had fresh hot fries to order, ice cream too. 100% would comeback here.

    Large pep

We've been here before but this time I was more observant and noticed unsanitary conditions. The worker was an older lady with black short hair pretty unfriendly. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza (whole), $36.65 She got the raw dough, started pressing it with her hands, then her cell rang. She picked up the call touched her phone and continued to press our dough. Never washed her hands. Disgusting. The entire time I watched her make our pizza and other pizzas, she never washed her hands. Gross.

I've been to New York, and this is NOT "NY style". Service is excellent though!! We ordered 3 slices, it was about $5.75 per slice from the menu. We got one meat combo, one veggie and one plain cheese. The meat combo had pepperoni, salami and sausage. All of the meats were not salty enough and had little to no flavor. Such a bummer! The veggie pizza was nothing special and even the plain cheese wasn't that good. The dough is not as thin as New York, it was still a bit too chewy. The size of the slices were good but in my opinion pricey. I'd give it a 2/5 on flavor, but 3/5 for overall pizza joint. Unfortunately I won't be coming back, but the slices are made to order and the service was really good.

After a tour of the city, we worked up an appetite! This place which was a few doors down from the gocar place was perfect! They had pizzas by the slice and they were nice slice slices too! It was quite busy inside too so I assume it's either good busy or everyone's hungry or a bit of both lol. The slice of cheese pizza we got was pretty big too so I split the slice with a friend which was perfect! The pizza was hot and they had things like Parmesan, garlic oil, red pepper flakes as options to put on your pizza. I'm not sure what time they are open til but I feel like they are place that you can go to and get after a drunken night or after the night out at the club. Service was quick and ambiance it was many tables and chairs around the establishment with a walk up to the register and put your order in with the cashier. They also had tables outside which is where we opted to eat our pizza! If you're not particular about pizza but love pizza and you want something, go here!

We were drawn in by the pizza by the slice sign, but we realized we all wanted the meat combo so ordered a medium pizza instead. It was $32 dollars (hence only 3 stars). The pizza was ok, a little greasy, but overall good. There are three or four tables inside and three or four tables outside. The inside tables all had trash on them and there wasn't an obvious place to clear your own table. If you are a big The Room fan staring Tommy Wiseau, there are pictures of him with owner on the wall as well as a large mural of him on the side of the building. Some scenes in The Room were shot in this location.

Lil guys also loves the pizza here

This is my pizza place when I'm in the city. Good service and great taste. Haven't really tried anything else in the menu but with how good the pizza is I'm not even tempted.

I got a single slice; pepperoni & black olives. The pizza had a chewy dough with a crunchy exterior with satiating salty extra cheesy pepperoni toppings. Reminds me of the delicious pizza you find on the streets of New York! The toppings are just about as generous as their pizza slices! The older Asian man at the front was super kind and friendly! Quick to help and provide great service. The location is tucked behind the busy embarcadero street. You get there by cutting between two buildings. The interior has hanging lights, nothing fancy but a great late night pizza run location. The chewy dough leaves you wanting more! One of my fav places now!

Definitely a good place to grab good slice of pizza. It feels fresh because he adds the topping to cheese once you order and recooks it. The person taking the order was nice. Plenty of indoor and outdoor door seating, with comfortable feels.

I had a slice of pizza that featured a combination of mushrooms, pepperoni, salami, and cheese. The flavors were fantastic, and the toppings were generous.

THE late night spot in fisherman's wharf. Great service, worker named Mathew is the best!!

Pizza was just okay. Crust was decent. Sauce was a little bland. Price was $35 for a large 16" with 2 toppings. The to-go box was $1 extra.

I walked past it and got like a block away and was like maaaaaan shiiiiiittt Im turning around lol. I went back and came to get a sanny and Im happy I did, I was planning on eating it on the walk. The place has a lot of choices like a regular deli youd find in the northeast. San Francisco has definitely the best Little Italy as far as choices to pick from and its really big and spread out. I had the Goodfella. Roast beef, prosciutto, salami, provolone and basil. I added the pesto and olive oil and replaced the provolone with fresh mozzarella. Best part was there was an old ass lady who made the sanny and she loaded it lol. The bread makes the sandwich and it was really soft and crunchy. Soo good. I 1000% recommend this place and I am sure she makes all the sandwiches the same!

Wowowow …read more... Visited Alimento twice, my most recent being today -- 6/27. It's a small deli shop that offers gelato, sandwiches, and pastries. They also have quite a large selection of alcohol and cigarettes-- which could make for a good quick pick-me-up. I visited on a Wednesday night and got myself a cone with two scoops of Hazelnut Brownie + Stracciatella -- which were honestly so yummy. It was stretchy and soft and made for a perfect dessert after dinner. You are allowed only two samples though so be wary of your choices. Today, when I went -- I was excited to try their sandwiches, I was looking at the menu and the Alpino caught my eye. Normally, not a fan of bacon but this sandwich was fresh- the mix they offer in sauces and veggies were so good. The sandwich was refreshing to eat with a decent amount of turkey slices they packed in. The bread was also toasted and gave a nice crunch with a soft interior to every bite. The sandwich is admittedly a little pricey, but I would purchase again. Now the customer service, like other reviews may have mentioned was a little off at times? It didn't feel friendly or welcoming at times and when I was ordering I felt rushed or ignored-- I was trying to order two sandwiches to which, she immediately began to make the first one without a single word. I chose to wait until she was done because I wasn't sure when I could let her know about the other order as she was moving back and forth between stations, but she finished and I let her know about the other order to which she said, "How many more sandwiches?" Honestly, that comment did throw me off a little, but I told her this was the last one and she did make it quite quickly. Now, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt as she could be tired or not feeling the best-- but I would say I just wished she was a bit more acknowledgeable toward the customers behind the counter as it did make me discomforted by her lack of response and also the reaction she had when I let her know about the other sandwich. She did at least tell me to have a good day afterwards, so I do hope this isn't going to be a reoccurring incident as I really do love coming to Alimento for the gelatos and sandwiches. (~_~;) I would recommend coming here if you're visiting around North Beach! Alimento makes for a great lunch spot with their sandwiches or a nice sweet treat with their gelato. ^o^

Good wine and cocktail selection from the bar. I would pass on their burgers though which are mediocre. What makes this place 5-stars is the service and ambiance. Some of their staff have been there for several years, which is a testament to how well the restaurant is run. Since it's along the Embarcadero and close to Fisherman's Wharf, a lot of tourists tend to wander in. And this is probably why their website says there's a strict dress code. But I feel comfortable coming here in shorts and a t-shirt. The staff is always welcoming. I also go to the Los Altos Grill which is the same restaurant as Hillstone. Then they said "please don't move around so we can get the right food to you" which, like fine but that's not the reason they didn't want us to move. You're aiming for a hoity toity atmosphere, we can move plates around. There's an obnoxious but unenforced dress code (no jerseys then someone came in with a jersey and was as seated, no baseball hats...), but the straw that broke the camels back was when the hostess asked me to stay seated while I was seated. My 4 year old needed entertainment as we were paying the bill, we were in our last few minutes there and she told me that I had to stay in my seat. Which I was. They didn't get the order right for said 4 year old: hamburger, no cheese. Showed up with cheese. If you don't want kids in your restaurant, just turn people away. But also you're on the Embarcadero, not in a fancy neighborhood. Overpriced by 20%.

My husband, being the seafood fiend that he is, also ordered the crab chowder in a sourdough bowl. If you're getting multiple chowders, I'd say one sourdough bowl is enough for the photo moment and gives you more than enough bread to enjoy. The clam chowder was definitely the star of the show. It was thick, cozy, and seasoned just right. The crab chowder, unfortunately, was a bit disappointing. It didn't have much crab flavor and was thinner than I expected.
