Ate there this morning. Can't say enough about the service. The waitress was always there at the right time, without hovering over me. The food was standard diner type food but fresh and prepared well. The only thing that disappointed me was that they didn't mention the specials the had for the day. The breakfast was excellent. I had their Irish Benedict with soft poached eggs and cottage cheese substitute and the hollandaise sauce was excellently prepared as well! yummy! My husband had the chicken sausage with eggs and substituted fruit for the hash browns. The fruit was extremely fresh - strawberries,banana, grapes, cantaloupe, kiwi and watermelon! Every time I come here, I am not disappointed. I usually get a BLTA sandwich or Denver Omelet, but their Biscuits and Gravy are really delicious as well. The restaurant itself is really small, and you may need to wait on a Saturday/Sunday morning, but it's totally worth it. Much MUCH better than any chain restaurant for sure. Breakfast is cool here, but can take a really long time to receive. Sometimes the line just to be seated is out the door... fortunately and unintentionally, we've managed to always arrive just before that line begins to form! Food is a bit greasy, but still tasty. Once we had a piece if plastic wrap in the sauce of his eggs benedict, they nicely removed that meal item from our tab, as expected, and we just haven't made it back yet. That stuff just happens sometimes in kitchens, no biggie unless it's some hygiene related item, then we would have issues!! We will go back here one day. read more

OK My fellow Yelpers.. I didn't get the 4 stars that this place was rated.. It's a really simple breakfast place but there was nothing about my meal that screamed this place is great! 1/2 of the kitchen is actually in the dining room (ice machine, refrigerator and coffee station). I must stay the potatoes were some of the best I've had in a long time but I'm not just rating this place on potatoes! I'm being generous with the three stars that I'm giving this place only because of our server NORMA.. She ROCKED! We started off with another server who had the personality of a pencil, then a big party came in and we offered to move to a smaller table so they could all sit together, that's when were seated in Norma's section.. She was very friendly, kept our ice teas filled. I had ordered a mini breakfast which comes with a choice of meat. I choose turkey sausage which I did not eat (they were rancid) when she came to the table she noticed that and asked if if I didn't like them and that's when I told her they were bad.. She immediately offered to take the meal off our bill or bring me something else.. I told her I was fine and that I didn't need anything else but that I didn't want it removed from our bill (i had eaten most of the meal (one egg, one piece of toast and the potatoes) oh yeah did I mention the potatoes were delicious! after some discussion she brought out bacon (for my hubby).. What I appreciated is that she genuinely seemed to care and she wanted to make it right.. Getting the bad meat really wasn't a big deal for me but the way she took care of me was perfect customer service and the reason I'm giving this place 3 stars.. read more

I love this place! The seating arrangement could be a little better but oh well. You can't find a good seafood breakfast plate at any Ihop, Dennys or even that new Pancake House across the street. This place is definitely worth checking out. They only take cash but they do have an ATM inside but of course it charges a fee so bring cash with you :) read more

I must not get it. Service was mediocre at best. The announcement of cash only as I was ordering, forcing me to use an in-house at was irritating. I ordered a omelet, but the eggs came out more like a crepe - definitely not 3 eggs as advertised. Taste was good, though. This must be a small local joint for the regulars. The waitress seemed to know a lot of her customers. Loved how friendly the waitstaff was. Came here for breakfast with friends. Prices are pretty decent. Didn't like the fact that it is a CASH ONLY restaurant. Luckily we all had cash on us! (Well no, actually one of my girlfriends had to go to the ATM and grab $!) It gets busy here put in your name but stick around because the tables turn over quickly and people waiting jockey for positions. They serve breakfast and lunch only. Eggs, inlets, burritos, sweet stuff, benedicts, Salads , sandwiches, soups, burgers, melts, seafood, appetizers, drinks plus side orders too. The special for $9 was the All American breakfast. It is served with 2 eggs 3 bacon with french toast, pancakes waffle or biscuit with gravy. Filling and good. The weirdest thing is the bathroom is in the kitchen area, thru the pink doorway. That is odd to me but it is an older place. Waitress service is how you order but pay at the counter yourself at the end. They use ingredients you know. Sun maid raisin bread , rainbow bread, Lucerne milks, Lipton tea, Carnation hot chocolate, Crispex cereal, Campbell's soup, Minute Maid OJ, etc. There is fresh juice if you are ok with pulp. The coke / diet coke is by the can as there is no fountain. The decor is old time pictures ( black and white framed) adorning the walls. A good breakfast joint. BRING CASH! read more

Ham melt: salty ham, clearly very processed, dripping with water. The whole thing did not have much flavor at all, except salt Fries: Frozen from a bag, really not good. Veggie omelet: little salt(which was great) toast and plain pancake : ok hash brown :ok according to my husband but tasted weird to me. I'm new to the area and after reading the yelp reviews I have found my new all day breakfast place! I love pancakes, and Plaza Cafe has a great pancake. They clearly use egg which makes the pancake light and fluffy. No 'Just add water mix' here. They even serve real maple syrup. Truly beats the fake corn syrup stuff you find at most other placed. They pay attention to their quality. Bacon and sausage are great. Eggs cooked perfectly. I do like stronger coffee, but I'll make do. I'll be back! read more

I think this place is great if you're looking for a lot of selection. I have only been here for breakfast. I would highly recommend their eggs benedict. On cold days it can be really drafty because of the door and there isn't much room to wait. Good place for a quick breakfast during the weekend. read more

I never knew this place existed! I was stranded in the area while my car was being fixed and decided to give this place a try for a hearty breakfast/lunch! One thing I love love about these places is that when they are hidden restaurants owned by mom and pop families, the food and prices are sooo much better! I loved the small cafe feel to it with dark leather booths and little two person wooden tables with matching wooden chairs. It just gives it a homely feel! The waitress was very friendly and attentive to my needs. The food came very quickly...I ordered the Cafe Club sandwich (sourdough bread, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles) with homemade potato salad. Very yummy and healthy!! The portions were big enough I could take some home with me for later. Overall, I am very impressed with this restaurant. It does get a lot of familiar traffic and I noticed that the waitresses called them all by their first names. That is always a good sign of a great restaurant. I would highly reccommend this place for breakfast and/or lunch. Even though I didn't order the breakfast, I saw other people's dishes and the servings looked tasty and huge. When asking for the best breakfast in the Concord, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek area, Yelp directed me to an unassuming gem tucked away in the corner of a strip center. Now the best place in Pleasant Hill for breakfast. The only standby by, Ch** Burg** has downgraded their quality immensely. This places has good food, nice portions, and quality ingredients. What more can you ask for. The food is quite good, served hot (not cold like other places), and keeps your bottomless cup of coffee filled at all times. I hate to do this.... I have eaten here Many times over the years without ever having a problem but being extremely satisfied.... That changed today... I went in today for what used to be delicious burgers... ok...I'm a burger snob...I order my usual burger rare. It arrived Well done. Saddened I started to eat it... not only well done but it tasted funny. Reluctantly I tell the waiter who apologizes and takes the burger away. Second burger arrives... again well done, and to me tastes different. I ask to speak with the manager/owner. Being a nice guy ( me!) I mentioned we speak outside not to influence other diners. I explain my story. The owner does nothing except tell me his meat is good. I'm not looking for anything free but a little compensation goes a Long way in my book. I did not eat the second Burger. I go back to my table get the check. I meet the owner to pay, he say nothing. I paid full price. I WILL NEVER EAT AT PLAZA CAFE AGAIN. Mike read more

The absolute best breakfast/lunch diner! With one caveat. Please please make your hollandaise sauce fresh and homemade. There are such simple blender recipes that are Julia Child excellent!! I don't think most know how much better a homemade hollandaise is to a canned sauce. They've probably never had homemade! I know you're busy, but with this one change (oh and change to thin crispy bacon) you will see a line out your door all hours you are open! read more

I am so shocked that this place hasn't been reviewed yet, it's been around forever.... This is my absolute favorite breakfast place in the whole world, (yes, world and I've lived in different places and traveled a lot too) I may be biased because I've been going here since I was a kid; but tons of people are long time customers too. This is such a traditional american breakfast/lunch place, it's got a great homey feel and is relatively small. Go on a weekend morning and the line is out the door! It's family ran and the people who have been working there are so friendly and have been there a long time. The food it high quality (fresh and homeamde recipes), without being pricey. I recommend the Eggs Benedict and you cannot go wrong with any of there specials. I seriously have a hard on for this place, best around. Check it out if you're in Concord, but be warned they close at 3pm. read more

One of my favorite breakfast joints of all time. Bacon is perfect, menu is simple and the Dungenous Crab and Avacado Eggs Benedict is delightful (Sunday's). Lunch is terrific as well, BLT's rock! It is a small joint though, so be prepared to wait on the weekends or lunch during the week. read more

The food here is extremely decent. Not by any stretch of the imagination an amazing meal but all in all, completely OK. The biggest problem that seems to occur here is the fact that there is absolutely no consistency in how the food comes out. The last few visits I made there went as such: the first thing to come out would be my girlfriend's french toast, followed 5 minutes later by my breakfast sandwich, followed 5 minutes later by her eggs and toast, followed 10 minutes later, after I reminded the waitress, my hash browns. I mean, how hard is it to put all the food on one plate? Obviously you want the food to come out hot and fresh but if the hash browns take longer they should be started first; breakfast really shouldn't be a three course meal. read more

I have been going to the Plaza since 1986. To me the best hamburger around. Forget Nations, In and Out and The Counter, try a Plaza burger. The bun is always soft, just a great combination. Their coffee cake is terrific too. read more

My husband and I decided to stop by for sunday brunch and we loved our food and service. We ordered a coffee cake to start off and it was absolutely delicious. I worked next to this place for 10 years and ate there often. I was never disappointed. The lunch is great but the breakfast is excellent. They have all kins of combinations from calamari and eggs to biscuits and gravy to yummy crab and avocado benedict. The omelets are not whipped up with alot of air they are thin and dense but filled to capacity with whatever your heart desires. The warm coffee cake topped with melted butter is the best I have ever had as is the bacon, thick and savory, and the pancakes. The only negative thing I have to say is the breakfast potatoes are tasteless, I usually get a side of gravy to put on them for flavor. Lunches are awesome. The club is my favorite smoke turkey, ham, cheese, tomatoes and more of that delicious bacon separated by three slices of toasted bread. The soups are always good, they change daily. There was nothing really disgusting about the food, but it was just not that great. We went for brunch a few weeks ago. I had a vegetarian omelette. It was really bland--like there wasn't even any salt or pepper in it. Same thing with the hashbrowns. My dining partner had a reuben. Same deal-- bland. What a shame. This place is walking distance from our house. It would be good to have a go-to place that close. We tried Burger Road the following week. It was MUCH better. Prices are about the same but the food is much more flavorful. My quest for a decent breakfast place goes on! read more

Solid breakfast spot, one of my favorite places to eat on a weekend when in pleasant hill. The food is pretty good, the service is decent but the seating is tight. It's not uncommon for there to be a wait on the weekend so I suggest planning accordingly. Overall one of the better breakfast spots in Pleasant Hill. read more
