However, I truly believe that you can do a better when you are trying to serve a $20 dollar plate plus tax. I ordered the Quesabirria (3 birria tacos) and each taco was full of fat (cueros). First time trying out this restaurant. Arrived on a Sunday around 10:30 am. As expected, one hour wait. Decided to sit at the bar because there were open seats. Waited 10 minutes for server to take our drink and food order. Food arrived 20 minutes later. I ordered the French Toast with bananas and my son had the Posole. I unfortunately my French Toast was dry. Took two bites and decided I wasn't going to eat it. I sat there for the next 25 minutes while my son finished his meal and the server finally asked me if we needed anything else. I told her to take my plate away because I didn't care for my meal. She responded my telling me "that's not what you told me". I responded, " I sat here the entire time watching my son eat his food and you never one asked me if I needed, wanted anything else, and you want to argue with me"? The audacity of this server. Needless to say, I will never return to this restaurant. I did have a conversation with the manager and he apologized but made no other offer. Needless to say I'll never go back. read more

Went this morning on the 22nd of February with a party of 5. I called to make a reservation at 8:30 that morning for 10:30am and was put on hold for 6 minutes then hung up on. I tried to call back but it went to voicemail. I told my wife. Let's just go in and wait because it looked good and I was willing to wait. Upon arrival the hostess took my name, my family and I sat down in the waiting area. 20 minutes go by and I start seeing people who came in after us with parties of 4+ getting seated. A couple I assumed had reservations. I'm not mad at that. I actually think it's great they take reservations for parties more than 4 cause it does make it easier to plan for both the guest and the business. But then I started seeing walk ins get seated with 3 people, 4 people and I waited a bit longer till I decided after waiting close to 50 minutes how much longer for me and my party. The girl said she called my name and nobody came. I kindly told her that was impossible because as soon as I put my name on the list I sat in the chair RIGHT NEXT TO THE HOSTESS. If y'all got cameras please check. We were there from 10:22-11:05 waiting to be seated. Never once left that chair. I was there with my wife, mother and children. All of us would have heard her call my name. As soon as I explained that to her she just said "well you see I called you once inside and twice outside and nobody came. Your name is crossed off here. So I'm sorry I don't know what you want me to do. I can go get my manager but you're just going to have to wait" saying sorry does not mean anything especially when you're saying it with an attitude. As soon as I was met with confrontation and combativeness is when I matched that energy and explained that for a while they had tables outside able to accommodate my party, they had a couple tables inside that they could have accommodated us with before setting up to take a reservation that was coming in and yet she never once thought to ask the whole time we were sitting there what the name was to our party. She just let us sit there. If I didn't ask I'd still be waiting. I was so close I was also able to hear every conversation she was having on the phone. She was telling people estimated wait times. One conversation I remember in particular was that guest made a reservation the night before for Sunday morning and it was cancelled. Apparently the guest called and asked to be put back on the list and she said she would go ask her manager. They allowed it! The guest came in with 5 people and got sat immediately. So you can cancel a reservation there and get put back on and not have to wait? Essentially that's just cutting the line. When I got to speak with the manager I explained my perception of everything and let him know I have been observing the dining room and patio; tables had been open to accommodate my party. I understand staffing. So just cause tables are open doesn't mean they can just sit people. They'd get bottle necked. What I was explaining to him is that multiple parties were coming in after us and getting seated and he can make it right by sitting us promptly and serving us since we waited more than we really needed to off his hostesses mistake. I'm lead to believe she crossed my name off on accident and instead of apologizing and making it right for my family and myself. She got defensive and gave me an attitude. I get that mistakes happen. All I ask is for accountability to be made and for the mistake to be corrected. She even tried to come over to Pablo and explain herself to him while I'm asking for him to just make it right. She was giving me an attitude in front of him. I wasn't asking for anything free. I wasn't asking for someone to be in trouble. I just wanted to be treated fairly. I got hung up on, I got passed up on for close to an hour, and then I got an attitude from someone instead of them apologizing for making what could've been a genuine mistake. All in all despite all of that. The food was really good. Bridgette and Pablo were amazing as a server and manager. Those 3 there is why I'd give it another chance. But that girl that was hosting needs more training on customer service. I've been in leadership roles for a long time and employees who lack self accountability and professionalism especially at the front end will hurt your establishment. Won't matter if the food is good. The first thing guest see before the food and tasting the food is the service you give to the customer and the cleanliness of the business. The cleanliness was great the food was great the cooks MOVE (they pumped food out fast and it was good). Pablo, Bridgette, and the kitchen team. I had a really disappointing experience here. After we ordered, our waitress never brought plates, and despite multiple attempts to get her attention, we were ignored. I even tried to get help from another staff member (who appeared to be handling multiple roles- bartender and host), but he also walked past us without acknowledging us at first. It was honestly embarrassing, especially since other customers noticed. When he finally came over, there was no apology. We also had to flag down the waitress again just to get the bill, and throughout the visit, no one checked on us or offered things like water refills--even though the place wasn't busy. On top of that, I ordered the "Golden Hour" drink, which took about 30 minutes to arrive and unfortunately tasted extremely bitter and unpleasant... it was way too acidic that it burned my throat. It's as if the bartender did that on purpose- if he did, please be very careful and not order any drinks from the bar. Overall, the service was very poor, and the experience felt frustrating from start to finish. I hope management takes steps to better train staff and improve customer care. read more

We came to Poco Madre for breakfast this morning and had the best experience thanks to Diana. She was incredibly kind, attentive, and efficient from the moment we sat down. She has such a warm personality while also being very assertive and on top of everything, which made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Our drinks and food came out quickly, she checked in at the perfect times, and you can tell she genuinely cares about giving great service. Came in for some breakfast because it says on Apple Maps it opens at 7:00am. However, when walking up to the door, a worker told us it did not open until 8:00am. Both Apple Maps and google does not reflect this opening time, with it being at 7:00am. The worker told us that her boss told her they open at 8:00am and would go ask about the opening time. We were under the impression she was going to come back to inform us or at least apologize for the inconvenience, but she did not. Went there in the evening before they closed. There was only two other people at the bar, the music was blaring too loud to hear our conversation. We asked politely to lower the music a bit but they did not. The ambiance was non existent since we got there before closing. We have seen it very busy during the day however. The decor of emerald green and lighting fixtures were beautiful . The waitress was cordial but had to repeat my order to her twice. The carne asada on my huarache was tasty but had lots of toughness and many pieces un edible. Was not able to chew. The warm salsa was great. My friends meals were fine. Chicken tacos and a Poca Madre burger but not remarkable. The drink I order had milk in it but did not see it listed on the ingredients on the menu. I am lactose intolerant so gave it my friends. I will not be returning. With all the excellent authentic Mexican restaurants in Avondale they can keep their emerald decor and chandeliers. I feel like this place has potential. This place definitely needs to be a bit more organized. The restaurant should invest on gathering guest phone numbers rather than shouting out our names from the inside and outside. It's very inconvenient when your guest is standing outside long period of time waiting to get called back in the sun. They should offer your guest water outside or have a water dispenser in their small lobby. After an hour standing outside my family and I get seated and the waitress wasn't the friendly. I completely understand it's a very busy restaurant especially it's open till 3pm but they should try to work with a positive attitude. Upon ordering food my family and I had questions on the menu and the waitress kept cutting us off and moving on to the next person. We felt very rushed on ordering our food. When we finished eating we asked the waitress if she can bring a cake for birthday boy. And she walked away frustrated.
