This place feels super dirty and you tense up waiting for the food poising to set in. Lucky for me I didn't get sick. Ordered the Point Break Breakfast which got you two eggs, choice of meat, choice of potatoes, and toast. I did the upcharge to sub in their corned beef hash for the meat and ordered it extra crispy. Eggs were very much overcooked and hash browns lacked a nice browning. The corned beef hash was a big let down, no flavor chunky moosh. Sourdough toast was great, service was pleasant. Ended up here as the place I wanted to go to had all of it's streets closed for a bike event. I was saling after so I was able to walk here from the free parking lot across from the marina where Sail San Diego departs. It was a 2 minute walk if that so good option. read more

My family and I tried Point Break because we had a Restaurant.com coupon. This was our first time here. The restaurant looks outdated and has a lot of memorabilia inside, but I think it makes it look more homey and welcoming. I tried their crab benedict with hash brown. The crab benedict was delicious. They put a good amount of crab and it had a lot of flavor. The egg was perfectly cooked. I don't recommend their hash brown though, the grilled potatoes was so much better. My dad had the steak and eggs which I tried and that steak was very tasty and tender. They also have an area that is great for families with kids. They have a tv that shows cartoons and they have toys to play with too. Parking is a little tight and sparse but there are lot of street/metered parking that you can try. read more

I was going to Denny's but people are still waiting to be seated so I went here to have my breakfast for lunch. Ordered stuffed French toast, scrambled eggs, and hash browns. The portions were just right. The food was okay but I totally dig the low key atmosphere. It looks old but it feels very comfortable inside. They have old dining chairs that hug your back plus they're low enough for my feet to comfortably rest on the floor. They have a coupLe of sofas if you want to "lounge" and outside seating too. The place is pretty dark but then they have Gary Clark Jr playlist going which is absolutely great because it adds to the low key ambiance. Need to mention that they have a bar as well. Don't go here!! My boyfriend and I went to this place last night and left after the waitress neglected us. We walked in and were greeted and told to sit anywhere. Our drink order was taken and the specials given but then the waitress never returned for our order. Instead she talked to all the other patrons and ignored us. We waited for 10 minutes and then gave her another few minutes grace. Finally, we just left the money for the drinks and left. As I was walking out she looked at us and I told her that we waited too long for service. I went back today to complain and the same waitress ignored me again after I asked for a manager. Mind you that this place only had a few patrons the night we came and today when I came in today. Some dude told me that the manager, Kevin, would be in on Monday. Honestly one of the best reasons to live in Point Loma. Just a bike ride away or a quick zip down Rosecrans and you're there! I mainly go for breakfast so I cant speak for the afternoon but I have never waited to be seated and the bar is always open. The staff is friendly and a some are bilingual. I've enjoyed dining here over the years, found the food very good and enjoyed bringing out of town guests here many times. Over the years the service e has been spotty, but never to the point it has become recently. My last visit was the last visit. I brought a friend on for breakfast and we sat and waited around 15 minutes and noone ever approached. It was then we noticed other tables some with menus a few with waters, were leaving. My friend suggested we wait a bit more, but after another 10 minutes without even being acknowledged and noticing other tables being neglected as well, we finally left and reluctantly went to Broken Yolk. Wish you luck as I've said, I've enjoyed coming here, but just wont put up with the crappy service anymore. But based on the reviews here I was expecting culinary greatness and it was just... Feh. I had the Point Breakfast which was your basic 2 egg breakfast with bacon, 'browns and toast. The bacon was lukewarm and the fat had congealed like it had been sitting for a bit and it had a funny aftertaste. I LOVE bacon so getting me to decline bacon-y goodness means something is up. The browns were decently cooked but bland. The eggs were, again, ok but fairy tasteless. My toast was cold and had foreign jam or something like they used a dirty knife to cut it. Since it was cold anyway, I asked if she could bring me another slice and she did, but it was ALSO cold! The coffee was ok -- not good, but you know, diner coffee -- but not very hot and I had to wait almost 20 min to get a refill even though I was asked if I wanted more when the food was served. I get the impression this place is well-loved by tourists and cafe regulars, which is fine but for someone who frequents breakfast all over this city, I felt let down based on these reviews. We accidentally stopped at Point Loma Cafe first and when I realized it was the wrong place we looked up THEIR Yelp reviews before we decided to leave, saw it was 2 stars and went to Point Break. What happened to this place? I remember when I was younger and this was a great family restaurant with some pool tables and amazing burgers called Boll Weevil. Now its this run down Restaurant. I went in here with my brother and two fiends to grab some food and a beer. When we walked in we couldn't believe what we saw. The interior looks like he hasn't done anything to revamp the place. There is a couch that looks like it came out of a college fraternity house random games laying around. The decor is super random and doesn't go for a theme. There are two tiny tv's and a few old school tube tv's not good for watching the game at all. The waitresses seemed to be upset from the partons in the bar. When we went in on a Saturday around 7:00 there were three salty looking older guys drunk as hell at the bar. One was starring at us the whole time and eventually struck up a conversation with us asking if we were new to town and if we wanted some advice on some good entertainment aka.. he knew the local strippers in the area. I could tell the waitresses were embarrassed from his comments and wise cracks which kinda put me in a pissed off mood. We ordered fries and rings because we didn't want to put in a full order if the starters sucked...which they did. The steak fries tasted like they were frozen and the rings were all grease and no flavor. This place use to have a mom and pop cool burger dive feel. Now it's known throughout the community as a drinking hole for degenerates. Wouldn't recommend going here the food was way better when it was located up the street. Just ate here for the first time. I don't understand the bad reviews. First of all, you can tell it's a small business not a corporate restaurant. Stop expecting expedited service and enjoy a relaxing/ unrushed menu with friendly service. People don't know how to just relax and enjoy these days. I will take slow service with friendly staff over rushed service and waitresses that seem annoyed with everything you request. Second, we ate breakfast here and it was delicious. I had the Country breakfast and my boyfriend had the country fried steak. We were both satisfied. Did I mention he's a super picky eater and always has something negative to say about food at most restaurants we go to? Third, I loved the ambiance of this place. Super laid back and even the patrons are friendly and sociable with each other. This place really is child friendly.We have a toddler and she can only stay sitting at a table for so long before she gets antsy. I'm talking over an hour and a half. Everyone was so understanding and friendly when we let her roam around for a couple minutes. This is a true neighborhood business. You don't see much of them anymore. The waitstaff is super friendly and keeps the coffee coming and are very attentive to you even when it's busy. I absolutely recommend if you're in the area. It's about 1.5 times the cost of Denny's, but way more flavorful.
