This was a favorite of mine for years. Kind of burned myself out on poke, so after an extended break I ordered from here the other day. I ordered my usual base - half spring mix, half white rice. My bowl arrived with a mountain of rice on top - so much so, I couldn't see the actual fish I had ordered (tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, shrimp). After much digging, which included throwing out a good amount of rice, I finally arrived at my fish & (very little) spring mix sitting in a small pool of dressing. Would've been nice to have some rice at the bottom to catch those dressings. This was very annoying to eat, and not at all enjoyable. I worry for those of you who say the portions are small because I just received the largest poke bowl I've seen in my life. I only ordered the medium so I cannot imagine the large size. I had a large bowl ordered through DoorDash with all salmon. I have worked in a Poké restaurant for 5 years before and judging by the salmon, I could tell right away that the salmon was frozen and not fresh due to how pale pink it looked. It was most likely due to cut cost. Which is sad cause looking at past photos it looks like they used fresh salmon before. Oh well. I'm disappointed. A few years ago this was THE SPOT I loved to get Poke from. But sometime last year I got really bad food poisoning from here. It took a long time for me to want to try this particular location again. I went to many other Poke places over the year but avoided this locale because of my bad experience. Roman is the BEST Poke Bar Chef at this fantastic neighborhood gem. I have been a regular customer for years and so thrilled that this delicious Poke Bar is in my neighborhood. Wow... I have had some bad poke in my life... but this? I can confidently say this is the worst poke I've ever had in my life. I have had better and fresher poke in Indiana for gods sake. I wish I had checked the reviews before walking in they make so much sense. To start... the bowl comes with the smallest scoop of rice I've ever seen in a poke bowl. The seaweed salad? That was slimier than young thug. The crab? It was faker than a sorority girls Instagram comments and drier than the Sahara desert (yes I know it's imitation crab but at least make it enjoyable or believable). They must have gotten the salmon during Black Friday that's how bad and old it tasted. I usually get tuna and salmon but the tuna was damn near brown, I'm glad I at least avoided that... Now as if this place couldn't have gotten any worse (this was my first sign to leave and not get anything which I should've listened to) it had a really weird odor.... an odor of like someone rotting away, who knows maybe it was the fish in the back. I love Poke Bar, it's my go to poke spot. I normally go to a different location and have stopped by here several times to get my poke fix. It's always been fine. The workers are always very kind and helpful. My review is only for the food quality. Today, I walk in and the restaurant smells fishy. I should've walked right out. The fish looks slimey, especially the salmon. I get home to eat it and the salmon is inedible. The slimey-ness and fishy smell is nauseating. I tried to eat some of the veggies and white rice but they also tasted off too? Really weird and disappointing experience because I love poke and crave it very often. I barely took 3 bites and I'm throwing it all away. I hope I don't get sick. My rule with sushi or poke is always to avoid places that smell fishy! read more

Food poising on Sunday, June 23. I've been to this location many times in the last year. Service has always been "okay." This has been my favorite poke place because of the portions and quality. Today my experience was unpleasant. The lady with two lip piercing needs some training in costumer service. She cut me and my boyfriend off multiple times while ordering. "What else? What else? That's it ? " Like, lady please let me finish my sentence. There's multiple notes placed throughout the counter written " I have ADHD please be patient." I've been patient on multiple occasions with this lady. She always has a bad attitude. Reading through the comments, I know I'm not the first to complain about her. Food is decent. The staff that helped me Jose and Romeo were super nice. It was my first time at this place and I will be back. One star removed because it's hard to see at night, the 7-11 next door is currently closed and there are no lights in the lot to clearly see the place. So so very happy to find this place this afternoon. The long story being discarded I am jumping right to Poke Bar. Thankfully this location is in an area with parking. The first worker was not versed in what's what to any useful degree. But the other guy was (Jose) not only knowledgeable but very helpful on every turn as I tried to score the perfect bowl. I'm a newbie. The last attempt at a new store near my home was staffed by a young girl who said she was both a vegetarian (!?!??! Why hire such a useless person at such a place?) and only working her first week solo. That meal was less than desirable. But Jose knew the deal and offered suggestions and opinions relative to what might be worth trying vs what is a no no that shouldn't be attempted. In short, my meal was great. The rice was also overcooked and dry...the seared albacore was all munched up into big ugly pieces and were super dry. Poke Bar is located in a strip mall on the corner of Olympic and La Brea, near what is to be one of the metro stops off the Purple line. There is a bit of parking in the strip mall and found myself a spot around 11:30 on a weekday morning. There was no one in the shop so I was able to walk up and make my purchase. The Staff was friendly and helpful as I chose my small bowl with brown rice, tuna and salmon pieces. There are lots of yummy sides to choose from including edamame, cucumbers, pineapple, cilantro and for an extra dollar, avocado. You'll have to request the ingredients to be tossed, otherwise they won't be. Be sure to also check in on Yelp for a free cup of Miso soup worth $2.25 otherwise -- it's quite yummy! Definitely a cool spot on the way to Koreatown or DTLA off of Olympic. I'll definitely be back to get my Poke fix! read more

While simply named, Poke Bar has been my favorite LA poke spot for several weeks now. I pick up orders for an office and this is the most requested place we go to (of all cuisines). The ingredients are always of the freshest, highest quality. This shop does not limit the amount of (non-premium) add-ins you can choose! This greatly benefits a glutton like me. Those toppings are also of the most delectable variety of possible poke add-ins. Poke Bar also does one thing that I think sets them above the rest of the would-be Poke Kings: they pre-mix your bowl! While it's a cool Instagram photo to see your cucumbers in this corner and your seaweed salad in that corner, Poke Bar thoughtfully (and with gloved hands) gently massages your ingredients together to provide a consistent taste throughout your meal! What truly caps this off though, is the outstanding service from the Husband and Wife who run this hole-in-the-wall. Not only are they so friendly, but they care about your experience. They want to feed you good food. You can't say that about just any restaurant. To sum up -- Poke Bar is a fairly priced, magnificently though-out, family-owned GEM in Hollywood. This is a great whole in the wall place. It's tucked in right next to a 7-11 and a pet grooming place. I actually found this place using Yelp! Clearly everyone is on the same page. This place is clean and we'll displayed. Everything is fresh and prepared that day. When I was Inside ordering, there was a steady line of mobile orders in to pick up their food. Not fresh quality food. Ordered on UberEats medium size build your own bowl and passion fruit tea boba for lunch around 11:30AM. The boba was good, the poke bowl was not. Although they got the order correct, the quality of the food was not edible. The rice tasted old and stale, as if they were at least a day or two old. Some of the rice was harden, stuck together and had a weird after taste. The cucumber salad tasted sour and foul, like they were spoiled. The fish tasted ok though, so thats something. It is possible they are using old ingredients on some of the orders because they are not getting much business after all those negative reviews left by customers. I am so disappointed. I've ordered here a couple times in the past few years and the quality has dramatically changed. I placed an order through Postmates today and although my order was correct- all three bowls had a very chemical/bleach like taste and smell that was unfathomable. I still love this place but the last three times I've been there some, not all of the kale they serve has turned yellow and a yellow leaf or two end up in my poke' bowl. I eat a lot of kale and it takes a while before it starts turning yellow so it kinda' makes me wonder about the freshness of some of the items.
