Food is delicious have been coming here for a long time but $18 for a bowl of poke seems excessive now. Lower your prices.

Based on both in-person & delivery experiences, Poke Dot is about 3.5 stars. I gave 4 stars instead of 3 because they are mediocre, but they are not terrible, and they don't deserve to have their business negatively affected during COVID-19. The Pros: 1) Their staff are super friendly, and despite seemingly being short staffed, they prepare your food really fast. 2) Delivery is super, super fast -- every time I've ordered from them online it arrived early. 3) They have spam musubi -- only small downside is that the portions are pretty small. 4) Cool atmosphere & nice location within The Village. 5) Portions are super good for the price! The Cons: 1) I don't want to lean heavily on this one, because I think it's due to COVID & under-staffing, but the inside counter is usually really messy. 2) The fish, from my experience, is not the freshest. It's not terrible, but is noticeable if you are a poke/fish lover. 3) The flavors are a bit off here -- I don't know how to explain it, but maybe salty is the right word? It's something I've never tasted from any other poke place, not in a good way. 4) Doesn't really apply to right now because of COVID, but parking can usually be a pain. This place is not amazing, nor bad. There are two poke places in The Village & it might come down to just preference. My preference just happens to be for the other poke spot. read more

First time here. Small shop on Main Street where parking can be an issue although there is a FREE PARKING structure with walking distance. I've never been to a place like this where there are numerous healthy options and you build your own salad or rice bowl with so many choices. I got a brown rice bowl with crab, shrimp, some salad, cilantro, sesame seeds, and avocado. It was a great portion and decent price. I am very satisfied with the food and the service and choices. Definitely plan on going back. They have a frequent visit punch card but no apps. read more

Love the concept of choice here, but sometimes it backfires. It's still a great place especially for the Claremont area where you have sushi competitors. The issue with choice is something Gordon Ramsay explored in one of his episodes in the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares. It was the episode covering an Indian restaurant and how there were lots of choices on the menu, so much that the quality of each choice was subpar. Here, the issue isn't that the quality is subpar or not in the choices. Each choice alone is great. But it's the combination of said choices that gets tricky. How does a first timer know what to order when they come here? Randomly pick some items and pray that "it's all good"? Seems too much like a luck of the draw. Luckily for me, I've been to poke restaurants before. But for the average Joe or Jane that has never been to one, they can be overwhelmed by the concept of choice. Sure, the signage does a great job outlining basic level of what each "stage" consists of what choices, but knowing what is good doesn't necessarily have visibility. I guess this is where you might go, "well just ask someone who works there what's good". Thing is, factor in variables like lunch rush, other customers waiting in line. You really want to stand there for 2 minutes going back and forth with an employee on figuring out what your tastes are? This is where the entire business model could be made better with some preset templates. Integrate that with your signage and I think newcomers to poke will have a better idea of what's good. read more

Went to this place last Wednesday. The staff was filled with nice ladies and I saw some dude that briefly came out to the front (talking to the ladies) and he muttered "what a weirdo". I thought that was very strange... Anyway, I paid roughly 12-13 dollars for a large bowl. They have a normal size which is 3 scoops or protein or a large or 5 scoops. I pretty much let the nice staff ladies pick everything for me. I ended up getting th perfect amount of spicy! My base was white rice and salad mix! Everything else I believe you can get as much as you want! A surprising topping they have is hot Cheetos! I highly suggest- dramatically changes your poke bowl! Only issue I had was completely my fault. I had the bowl filled up way too high so I couldn't mix anything! Overall great amazing place in the area. This is possibly one of the worst poke experiences I've ever had... I'm only talking about the food though. The restaurant and service were solid! Parking: limited, there's a common lot for DT Claremont and some street parking but overall you'll have a hard time looking for parking. Ambience: the location is prime. Smack in the middle of DT Claremont to serve the hungry college students. The inside was very clean and bright. Service was prompt. No complaints there. FOOD: It was sooooo awful that I glad I didn't get food poisening 1. The white rice was UNDERCOOKED... it was hard, there were uncooked grains of rice in my bowl, wtf? 2. the fish's freshness is questionable. The scallops was served in the white broth that's I've never seen before and it tasted a little off. 3. I visited my son at Claremont-McKenna College nearby to watch him play his first ITA college tennis tournament as a Stag. I overheard a player ask her mom to pick up food for her here. The name was catchy and clever, so I decided to check it out on Yelp. There were some mixed reviews, but most were good, so I decided to give it a try. I'm glad that I did. This place is just as good as my favorite poke place in San Diego. One of the other reviews complained about price. I suspect they ordered poorly and added edamame and seaweed salad for $1.75 extra charge each. In my case, I ordered large and the server told me that these were included. Maybe he saw my hesitation an perturbed expression as I was staring at the sign thinking how Poke One N Half doesn't charge extra. The portion sizes and amounts of fish I got were good. I got one scoop of spicy tuna, 2 albacore, one salmon, one Tuna. The overall bowl size was about the same size also, which is very generous size, about 50% more than many places. The quality of fish is good. No fishy taste (which is why I don't like sashimi, but love poke bowl). I will be making return visits here when I come to Claremont over the next 4 years. read more

Craving Poke can sometimes get you into trouble if you visit an establishment that is not consistent . I've been here before and sometimes it's good , sometimes will be your last. Especially since the server had zero effort of customer service and has probably been told "don't serve to much" ridiculous im paying 16 dollars for a poke bowl with 6 pieces of protein. I was there I was trapped there was no way out. There sides have gotten so petty. You can tell they are all canned goods , no pineapple, no mango, avocado black of course they had that. I then asked her for spicy mayo which caused a reflex in her eyes to roll. This doesn't end here I get home and my stomach is ruined could be the food has no lids, she handled register without changing her gloves. Her bad attitude or just overall bad quality of fish and sides. I understand prices are at an all time high, and I don't mind paying I love to support local but sacrificing health never. The last time I ate at Poke Dot, I had a delicious and nutritious meal with my friends, I translated the Iliad and Odyssey into 13 languages- despite only speaking a fledgling version of English- I solved the Riemann hypothesis, and I received a letter from NASA asking me to be the first person to travel to Mars. Been coming to Poke Dot since it first opened a few years ago and I'm sad to say that service and quality has gone down since then (although price seems to be going up?). There's been multiple occasions where it felt like staff wasn't really paying attention: one time I stood there for a while before someone finally came out from the kitchen and reluctantly helped me. They're also less generous with their portions now and if you ask for even a little bit more (aka what the portions used to be) it's an extra fee. I came here on the grand opening when they offered 1/2 off the entire menu! It was pretty good. They've changed the menu a bit since. They now serve poke nachos! If done right, this could change the game. They now offer fried onions as a topping, instead of fried garlic. They have grounded up hot cheetos as a topping now too! It gives the poke such a good flavor and crunch! I've been here at least once a week for the past month at different times. The staff has been consistently very friendly, and quick with their service! I went to Poke Dot two days in a row. That's how delicious it is! The ingredients are so incredibly fresh, healthy and satisfying. The counter staff are also very friendly and the wait is never too long even when it's busy. On my first visit, I ordered a regular size bowl with half salad, half tortilla chips. I had it topped with all the fixin's and two scoops of spicy tuna and one scoop of yellowtail (their current fish special). I chose the medium heat house sauce with the cilantro sauce. Every bite was delicious. I devoured that bowl and vowed when I came back that I would order the large bowl. The very next day I went back and ordered the large bowl. I think my eyes were bigger than my stomach because I had a hard time finishing it. I'm not complaining though because yet again, the flavors were clean and delicious. I got half brown race and half salad and a scoop of each of the following: spicy tuna, albacore, yellowtail, salmon and scallops. I had it topped with the hot house sauce this time and a side of the spicy mayo. It definitely had a kick but nothing unbearable. I can see this place becoming a regular staple in my diet.
