    Honoring our heroes

What goes up, must come down. So does that mean what goes down, must come up? Not all the time, of course, but this is one of those times. A few years ago, I had enjoyed my visits to the Polly's Pies in Long Beach, but their service had deteriorated over the past couple of years with a handful of employees being clueless as to what the words "customer service" mean in juxtaposition. This gave me an opportunity to give Polly's Pies in Los Alamitos another chance, and suddenly, the shoe magically transferred to the other foot. Granted, a couple of the servers at the Los Alamitos location are still kind of struggling with their jobs, but even they are performing better than the employees I've seen at the Long Beach location. And the last one I interacted with, Annabella, was such a charm that I had to put this review update out there. After visiting the Los Alamitos location twice to finish off my Bingo Bonanza card, I finally qualified for the coveted offer of a free whole pie. I tried to redeem this at the Long Beach location for a bake-at-home pie, but was told it would only work on a ready-to-eat pie despite the fine print of the offer not mentioning this. Just as the Long Beach location has lost my patronage due to the inept employees' inconceivable incompetence, the Los Alamitos location has earned my patronage by treating me and the other customers with the respect that we deserve, especially after such a tough week of work. When I came in to redeem my free whole pie offer, I only saw and interacted with Annabella, who was super helpful and obnoxiously smiley at her job. I asked her if I could redeem the free whole pie offer on a bake-at-home pie, and she was able to make it happen, no hassle, no problem. With America's 250th birthday just around the corner, I wanted a blueberry bake-at-home pie, which would come frozen. They have a few other bake-at-home flavors like peach and rhubarb, but I wanted a red, white, and blueberry (okay, not the first two lol) pie to get ready for our country's milestone mark. It took Annabella a few minutes to retrieve a frozen blueberry pie, and she even offered to egg wash the pie, which I didn't even know what it meant when I came in lol. She basically had an egg mixture and used a brush to brush the top of the pie with the egg mixture so as to give the pie a better overall taste. I almost thought that egg washing a pie would have meant it wouldn't have lasted as long in the freezer, but Annabella said egg washing the pie wouldn't have an effect as long as it would stay frozen. Even after a month, it should still be good, so maybe I could have saved it for the 4th of July instead! And that wasn't the end of it. Before I had told her what pie I wanted, she mentioned to me that they had been omitting the baking instructions from the whole pies recently, but verbally told me the baking instructions for the blueberry pie: 425 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. I was afraid I would have remembered any of the three numbers incorrectly, but without me asking, she took the initiative to write down the instructions on a slip of paper so I wouldn't forget! And she also included a takeout bag to go with my box of blueberry pie so that the instructions wouldn't be flying around inside my car while in transit. Annabella herself was easily 5 stars, but on review updates, I don't upgrade from a 3 to a 5 since those two integers don't average to a 5. I also remember Layla being a very helpful server as well from one of my previous visits, though she was not my server any of the times I went during Bingo Bonanza. When I went to redeem my BOGO Half off entree reward, I went with two half sandwich combos: one with a soup, and the other with a dinner salad. For the soup, the server at the time said the specialty soup was potato, but I actually got a tomato soup. I didn't eat the soup since it wasn't what I wanted, and she took the soup back to get me a potato soup. Or so I thought; she came back to tell me it was a Backburner Soup, which I had once before at the Long Beach location, so it was a no brainer for me to try the Backburner again, especially since I recall enjoying it a ton! And yes, it was good, but that was quite a mess on service right there. On my last visit before redeeming the free whole pie, I had a 20% off reward, and I used it on a Mega Grilled Cheese Sandwich, which one of my Yelp friends swears by even though my first one wasn't so good. Glad I gave it a second try because that Mega Grilled Cheese was more like it! I even got to do a cheese pull, kind of like what other Elite Yelpers would do with pizza slices boasting a ton of cheese. The Mega Grilled Cheese Sandwich comes with sourdough, and even though I would have preferred wheat instead, I'm so glad I wasn't allowed to choose my bread for this sandwich lol. Hey Polly, I know you won't listen to me, but I really think your Long Beach location could learn a thing or two from both Annabella and Layla.

Dining area. New remodel is nice but for now it's empty.

I want to love Polly's but most of the time I leave liking it. I give them credit for featuring interesting seasonal food items (my last review focused on their Octoberfest). Currently it's a tropical theme. Other pluses are they leave a coffee carafe on the table & if you join The Club they offer special promos for your birthday, etc. Do I wish their portions matched the price? Hella yes! Can their side of fruit be any smaller? Maybe if they use a thimble. It's unusual for me to finish a meal at a Mom & Pop restaurant but here for the same price I can easily clean the plate. No takeout containers needed. I'd like the almost $15 Breakfast Burrito to be larger & not so hash brown heavy. I want to actually know there's bacon or even cheese in there. "Extra large" flour tortilla? I beg to differ but extra credit for the salsa. It had a real kick to it. The food tastes good & the service is nicely efficient. The decor is basic yet cozy & there's a large parking lot shared with a Boot Barn & several other businesses. Upon entering there's the bakery featuring their famous fresh bread & pies along with other items. I don't want Polly's to not exist. It has a loyal following & it serves a purpose (hence the 4 stars & not 3). I just wish I didn't see so much plate with my meal.

Loco Moco and whole wheat toast.
    Jeannie M.

Took myself to breakfast on Saturday morning and was excited when I saw they had a special menu selection which included Loco Moco. Was looking forward to that runny egg yolk over the hamburger patty, but I didn't want the egg white runny so I ordered my egg over medium. It was basically fried hard with no yolk. The rice and gravy were tasty though. Couple of other things contributed to the 2 star review. I didn't have a fork in my place setting, and had to ask for one twice. I ordered coffee with cream and my server didn't bring cream, so I asked another server and she seems disgruntled that I asked her for something. Finally, the small coffee pot they left on my table for self service refills was dirty on the outside.

First time coming for the lunch special, so I was super excited to try. I will definitely say I overhyped it in my head from what my parents told me. The burger is definitely worth your money for the lunch special, it was just the service. Our server wasn't really listening when we ordered and kept looking around. I give them 3 stars because it really depends on the location when it comes to the service, but besides that I enjoyed our lunch!

    Asian Chicken Salad
    Eric I.

Had the Asian chicken salad for dinner this evening. It wasn't great - the dressing was too vinegary without enough nuance in flavor besides "vinegar". The other ingredients seemed fine, but overall even apart from the dressing, there was a slightly odd flavor to it which made it seem a little more store bought vs homemade seeming. Service was businesslike though not particularly friendly. The prices were very reasonable though. Pretty standard Denny's/Chile's type ambiance. Will do as an eating place in a pinch, but not a place I'd particularly recommend to friends as a place to meet up and eat.

I came back because I wanted to try their pies again. It's Thanksgiving day and I have nothing to bring to a potluck and of course Paul comes to mind. It was always my go to. No pumpkin pie to purchase. You had to pre-order this so that was fine. I got a pumpkin cheesecake, and a boysenberry pie. Both were collectively about $48. When did pie become so expensive? Nonetheless, I was in and out quickly. Service was as good as can be considering it was a busy day for them. I thoroughly enjoyed the boysenberry pie. I would come back and get that pie. Others enjoyed the pumpkin cream cheese cake.

My pie looks like it was bitten and missing filling

I am not someone who usually writes negative reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience. Polly's Pies, shame on you. I'm honestly embarrassed to even post a picture of the two slices of pie we purchased tonight. Those two slices cost over $13, and what we received was incredibly disappointing. The portions were so small that I wouldn't even consider them proper slices of pie. Had I gotten out of the car with my fiancé, I probably would not have paid for them. For the price charged, I expected much better quality and value. I understand prices have gone up everywhere, but this felt excessive and left us feeling completely let down. Very disappointing experience.

    Boysenberry pie à la mode

Come here with a hankering for dessert. Our server was friendly. I ordered the boysenberry pie à la mode. It was good- it hit the spot. Polly's is tried and true.

Just wanted to give a big thank you to Pollie Pies for a fantastic experience. The cook absolutely knocked it out of the park -- every dish that came out was fresh, hot, and packed with flavor. You can tell real care and skill goes into the food. Also, a big shoutout to the wonderful staff who served us. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome from start to finish. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend Pollie Pies -- we'll definitely be coming back.

    POTM Banberry Pie
    Lou H.

Having seen this featured on the news's local food segment, I realized I've never been to Polly's despite driving by a couple locations for over 20 years. Then hearing that they had a pie trademarked made me think, it must good. Perhaps that led to high expectations and the let down. Speaking only about the 2 Banberry pies I bought, on sale for a reasonable $13.99, I would rate this place 3 stars. It wasn't too sweet, it was reasonably priced, but then again it was a little bland. The banana creme pie topped with diced strawberries and whipped cream sounded like a great combo. I love strawberry banana smoothies after all. However bite after bite left me thinking, "meh, it's ok." The crust was way too thin and tasted a little burnt, but didn't look burnt. Not that it was bad, but for being trademarked it disappointed. The service was fast and friendly, and the diners all seemed happy, so maybe their food is better, I know their chocolate cream and peach pies looked delicious, so it may be worth giving this place another shot. Well that's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating.

Went here for breakfast since was craving for some muffin. Big & easy parking, the place is big and spacious but lack of service. When I came, only 1/4 of the place is packed but wishing 20mins it's packed. There are only 1 person at the front to deal with cashier, seating and bakery sales. Also there are only 2 servers. Got table within 5mins and took another 7-10mins to get order since she was panned with 2 big groups and handful of tables. Ordered and took about 10mins to get the foods the. Had to waited 10mins to get the checked after asked, then waited inline for cash payment at the front entrance. Service is good & felt sorry for her since one of the table was keep requested stuff all the time so she had to run back and forth. Cause of that I felt rush to order, and didn't want to ask for more stuff. The foods are only, baked good, the blueberries muffin was great, moist and fluffy. The interior is bright, clean and simple with ease vibe but seeing the waitstaff scrambled around was doesn't feel ease at all. Their bakery side is well displaced with all the available pies, breads, cookies and others. But it was great to check this place out since heard a lot about it.

They give samples of the tuna salad if you ask!

Solid meal here as always. Driven by here a million times but finally we stopped in. I had the chicken fried steak and wife had the tuna melt. The chicken fried steak was good and the green beans were delicious. We also got the tuna melt...probably one of the best tuna melts around! Moist and delicious. Our pie choices were cherry and cherry. They call it the double crust for some reason, maybe because it has a top crust instead of open top. Very good pie. The server was super attentive and was on point with iced tea refills. The ambiance is typical traditional diner bill of fare, which matches the food.

I have always seen this restaurant here as I frequent the western clothing store next door and decided to try it out to see how it was. I was seated fairly quickly and was tented fast by my waitress. My waitress explained the lunch meal deal and I decided to have a Polly burger. For 12 dollars it was definitely a steal. For the same price you can have a greasy fast food burger you can grab a better quality burger here. The meal came with fries, drink and a cookie in my eyes it was a great meal for the price. There are plenty of other options as well for the lunch meal deal and they also have a different deal that includes an entree, app and desert. Definitely try it out, worth the buck.

So I guess you can say, I judged the book by its cover. Being that this Sunday is Father's Day, but today June 16, 2026 is the only day that the whole family can be together, we did an early celebration of Father's Day here at Shenandoah at the Arbor. We had reservations but they were not crowded in any means. Chelsea our server was such a sweetheart. As we looked over the menu, we were served our Apple fritters and got our drinks. Chelsea got our entree orders and with precise timing, our salads came out. The salad was very refreshing with their homemade chipotle ranch. Since they do not serve regular ranch I stayed with the dressing snd it had a mild kick which I enjoyed. I originally wanted either the granny's fried chicken or Country fried pork chop or the country fried steak, but they had a special menu with a Pichaña Roast which I was going to change my original plan, however they ran out, so I went back to one of the original ideas. So collaboratively my two boys and I each ordered one of the fried items so we can each give the other a portion to sample. My wife and daughter both ordered steaks. As the food were served, we all shared a bite for everyone to try each entree. My wife's ribeye was delicious. She ordered it medium, but it came out medium rare which she doesn't mind and it was super tender. My daughter's New York strip was tough even though she ordered it medium rare, the cut was just not as tender. The country fried steak was thin, but it was tender, however not crispy. The fried chicken was a nice sized portion, fairly moist and the pork chop was just very dry. The food tasted good, the portions were great, the service was excellent. I'm not sure how long they are serving the Pichaña for, but I would definitely like to go back to try that.
