This was my first time eating from this place. The food reminded me of Subway. I ordered a Wreck sub and small loaded potato soup. Very expensive and hardly any meat on the sandwich. I love this sandwich spot! I cannot say that I have tried a variety of items as I always order either the wreck or the PBJ. I order it with hot peppers on the wreck that I promptly remove, admittedly weird. Just the residual juice from the peppers is plenty hot for me. Another favorite is the toasted Peanut butter and jelly. It's amazing what a broiler can do for this classic. We stopped coming because of the lack of consistency but we decided to give it a try again. Well, it is still exactly the same. The kids sandwich had barely any meat and half the sandwich was missing meat. I got the "improved" veggie sandwich and ordered AND paid for "extra" mushrooms....I count 4 total on this half. Spoiler alert, the other half had less. I'm not sure what I paid extra for because I don't even see a normal portion on there. Came here at 2 pm on a Sunday afternoon. The place is basically empty. Every single table is dirty. No ice in the soda machine. The menu doesn't tell you that they are going to heat up your sandwich. No prices for soup. You can't see how they are adding your toppings while making your sandwich. Staff wasn't friendly. Someone came in from the drive thru missing items from their order. Ok let me start by saying I absolutely love their sweet iced tea! It is excellent! Probably a little too sweet but I can't help but like it. I've been here twice and ordered the grilled chicken and cheese sandwich and this time I got a vegetarian sandwich and added stuff to it. The ingredients seem fresh but I'm finding their sandwiches to be rather plain. Maybe I'm not ordering the right stuff. I have tried dining in and the atmosphere was friendly. I have also gone through the drive-through and that was a good experience as well. I think they forgot to put hummus on my vegetarian sandwich though unless they just put so little that I can't even tell it's there. We had an interesting experience here yesterday. The sandwiches were great. Service was spotty. There was a kid there (that of an employee) jumping off of cars on the restaurant patio, sliding chairs into the doors etc.. This employee checked in with the kid multiple times during our 30 min visit and even told a customer over the drive-thru mic to " please hold" while she played Spiderman with the kid. There were several instances of this. I understand there are sometimes unfortunate circumstances and things may happen last minute with child care, but this child knew all flavors of the chips (told us which ones were hot) and seemed very comfortable there - making us think it was a usual occurrence. My wife decided to pick the place to eat and the kids were like sure lets try this place. Truth be told we will really eat anywhere just to try it out. Now here is the really odd part. Damn, I am a huge fan of Potbelly's... But for whatever reason, this Gilbert location SUCKS. I fell in love with Potbelly's at the downtown Phoenix and Tempe locations (Lunchtime for work, hell yes). This Gilbert location just ruins the brand name. TWICE, now, I have had lackluster sandwiches with low amounts of toppings and zero oil/seasonings when requested. It's just a shame. THEN, during my last trip to the Gilbert location....I specifically went thru the drive-thru for health concerns (Not just COVID; Personal reasons), and they ruined my sandwich while making it so they had to make a new one - which is fine. They requested I pull up to the front and they would deliver my sandwich to me. Well, this is 11:30AM on a Saturday - the parking lot was PACKED - and needless to say, I waited in my car for 10min waiting for a sandwich that never came. However the person taking my order was rude and very short with me, (like impatient and rushing) both while taking my order and at the window for payment. I've been to potbelly a lot. It's one of my favorite sandwich shops. I always order the same thing. The wreck with everything but mustard and a side of extra peppers. I always get the same thing no question. Today in the drive through of this location I was told that "because we are running low you would have to buy an entire jar of peppers if you want extra." Odd. But I said no that's fine I don't need an entire jar of peppers for my single sandwich. Then she shared "we could do extra on your sandwich if you want." ‍ I sat thinking to myself wow is it that hard to put them on the side so I can add them at my own leisure once I get my sandwich?! But I opted to go for the add extra to the sandwich. I paid in the drive through which I was very excited this location has because not all do. I drove to a spot to sit in my car and enjoy the rain here in Phoenix that we don't normally get. No peppers. On the entire sandwich. None. After most of the dialogue being about the peppers I'm left pepperless, sad and too annoyed to sit in the line that has now developed both inside and out to get a correction. Sad. Rainy. So usually we really like eating at potbelly's, but today they messed up 2/3 things on our order. Disappointing is an understatement. My sub was wrong and missing the ONLY item I asked for as an "extra", and I got diet soda instead of regular. Now I'm eating a bland sub with a diet soda with the cup of soup that was the only thing correct in my order. They need to figure out a quality assurance system for their drive thru orders, like read it back to the customer or something. I can't check my sub until I get home. Just incredibly frustrated because it now feels like I've wasted money. read more

OUTSTANDING service and food!! During this COVID-19 I still have to get my weekly infusions at the hospital. The nurses there deal with autoimmune patients daily, as well as being called to start emergency lines in Covid patients. Amazing sandwiches but extremely poor attitudes among high school aged children employees. I have been to this location 4-5 times and had to return twice due to missing items. Recently asked to speak with manager and the young lady with gum hanging out of her mouth identified herself as the manager. At that point I realized my complaint was of no use! I would truly give the sandwiches ***** but after giving the staff -3 stars it's only fair to give them at least two stars. Hate to give up on the sandwiches so I will just go to another location. Not only was my order not ready when i got there, they ended up giving me Just sandwiches when there was supposed to be more.
