After a few minute wait for a sales person I met Mark G He was very informative and took the time to see what I wanted in a car. During our test drive he took the time to share the important and impressive pluses of a subaru legacy. After dozens of questions and concerns. Mark was patient and responded in a timely fashion and even gave me his cell phone number to reach him sooner. He dealt with my car insurance and my family (which speaks loud words). Sub-par attitude at the service desk... really hit-or-miss, but, the worst part is: These guys tried to negotiate the service they were willing to do on a pre-paid service contract after the deal was inked. "Well, corporate only pays us $XXX to do this major service here, I'm not sure we're going to be able to actually do all of the manufacturer's recommended services at this mileage." ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I guess that these guys only feel obliged to honor pre-paid service contracts that they sell directly to people they actually sold cars to (I moved here from another town and bought my Subaru at a different dealership). The sales staff are not good. Years ago, I bought a Subaru here and was pleased, but my recent experience was dismal. The salesman would not provide information about packages and prices. He told me look it up, it's online. When I asked questions, he seemed annoyed and told me if I didn't like the offer I should go buy another brand. I never had a salesman speak to me that way. We were polite, not arguing, just asking but apparently we were a nuisance. Twice our phone calls were ignored--no call back. I like the service dept so far, but the two sales people we spoke with did an awful job. We were an easy sale, but that's 3 cars they won't be selling us in the next 3 years-- buh bye. read more

I love my Subaru but will be looking for another dealership for both service and future purchase. Had a bad experience with the service department when I brought my Legacy in for a 60,000 mile service. My windshield had a 1/2 inch ding in it which was scheduled to repaired the following day. When asked about my concerns, I told them I thought I needed new tires as I felt the tires were not gripping when I braked. This was not entered into the customer complaint section of the order so I was never called to ask if I wanted new tires even though they said the tread was okay. Instead they left an old complaint in the system from 4 months ago when my wipers were not working properly. They were under warranty and replaced at that time. When I brought this to their attention, they removed the charges (not sure why it took 10 minutes). When I got to my car it was filthy-they supposedly washed it. It had just been washed and waxed 4 days prior. I got into my car and my windshield was shattered to the point small shards of glass were on the windshield-looks like something was dropped on it. I showed the service manager the cracks and he seemed surprised. He also agreed the car was dirty. I am now without a car as it is unsafe to drive and I cannot schedule a replacement until next week. I spoke with the service manager this morning who argued with me and said I came in with a cracked windshield and it was not their fault. I asked to speak with the owner who has never bothered to call. I certainly don't appreciate being ignored or spoken down to so I called Subaru corporate directly and let them know about my experience. On another note, my dad loved my Subaru so much he planned on buying one from Premier. He had a terrible experience with the salesperson and went to another dealership in Eastern Connecticut. Update. The owner never called me back. He responded to my review via Yelp only. The representative from Subaru spoke with him and he refused unless I called him again. They even feel his actions are childish. Subaru is a great car but if customer service is important to you, go somewhere else. read more

My fiancee purchased a 2011 Subaru Legacy new from Branford Premier Subaru. I paid into the down payment and extended warranty of the car. We have brought it to Premier Branford before and I feel uneasy about it every time as something else comes back not being taken care of or being roughly handled. The mirror casing was popped out after having the wheel and alignment looked at. Recently the passenger side floor was soaking wet and water was leaking in. My fiancee took the car in to get checked out. They tried clearing out the evap line. The problem recurred after being returned so she brought it in again. The car leaked a third time after being looked at. They wouldn't give her a loaner car because they didn't know what the problem was. After having to bring her 30 minutes to this dealership/service shop, I had some complaints to convey about the three times bringing it in without resolution. The lady at the desk was very nice to try to help with my complaints giving me the contact information of the service director. My fiancee said that they fixed something with the firewall but wrote in that they fixed the seal on the windshield. I requested that something be put in writing about what was done to the firewall. I received a call from the service director Dennis who proceeded to yell at me and ask how dare I be rude to his service department. This was not the case. Yes, I was upset at the fact that the car was in for a third time without being fixed, yes I was upset that they couldn't help out with a loaner car for my fiancee, yes I was upset that they did something to the car and didn't document exactly what they did. Now I am upset that I was demoted as not being a customer of Subaru even though I paid into this car, I am upset that the one person I would expect to be professional in handling complaints threatened to call my fiancee back down so he could charge her the $400+ in labor time that they apparently spent 'not fixing the problem', yes I am upset that I was accused of being rude when I explained to the service lady that I understood it was not her fault and that I appreciated what she had done for us. Three other Subaru employees stood around while I was talking to the lady at the counter saying and doing nothing but watching but apparently they had all observed me being rude. Expressing complaints to the service department does not equal being rude. I went to speak on my fiancee's behalf because I felt she was being given the runaround. After the unprofessional phone call from the Service director I contacted my fiancee again to find out that there was still water coming into the passenger side floorboard. I am expressing concern because the firewall is a safety mechanism and I think I have every right to complain if something concerning the safety of my soon-to-be wife is in question. In summary while the supposed repairs cost nothing, the entire ordeal was very unpleasant and inconvenient for not only my fiancee (the real customer) but myself as well as I had to bring her to her car and be judged as rude passive aggressively. I too felt there was lack of communication and when written communication was requested I was responded to by a representative of Subaru less than respectfully. It is my fiancee's choice but I will be recommending that we find another Subaru dealership/service center. I did even express gratitude during the unprofessional phone call that no charge was accrued but continued to be lectured like I was the ungrateful son of the service director. I neglected to bother telling him that I am in the market for a new vehicle as well but will most likely not be going to Branford Premier Subaru. The replies to the complaints left here on Yelp by this Subaru are classic. They are very good at making it look like nothing was their fault or that they did the best they could do. God forbid you have something you, the customer, are not happy about. Be careful when considering doing business here and do your research. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. On 2 occasions we came I trying to buy a limited package WRX with 75% down. The first time we were completely ignored. We could not even get ahold of a salesperson. The second time we had an appointment. Now my aunt is supposedly very good friends with the owner of the dealership. We set up an appointment with him and he was supposed to have reserved us car because my fiancé wanted a specific color/package. We show up to the dealer- the car is gone and none of the salespeople even knew about our appointment. What's worse is they still had 7 WRXs in inventory. We asked if we could at least check out one of those- and the salesmen we spoke to said that all those cars were at their different lot and the person who had the keys to the lot wasn't there that day. So you mean to tell me someone has $20k cash for a $30k sports car and you don't have access to sell it???? The saleswoman we had gave us her card and said she would call us when the car was in stock (by the way she never did- this happened months ago and today we drove by and saw several of that specific color in stock). Frustrated we drove to quality in Wallingford where they didn't have a single car in stock. But Chad let us drive the special edition STI in the showroom, had us custom order the car, and now my fiancé has his dream car. Maybe it was because we're young 20-somethings- but the point is we had the money. We told them flat out they were there to buy a sports car. And we were ignored. Twice. So we went to a dealer that went out of their way to accommodate us. At the end of the day they lost a sale and we have since bought more cars from their competitor. They have the inventory but clearly don't want to sell. So don't waste your time here. Go to a good Subaru dealership. read more

Update on my problems with this awful dealership. So I brought my car to another mechanic to see what was going on with it and they listed a bunch of issues. Oil Pan is rusted, underneath is rusted and there is an oil leak and it is causing problems because it is leaking into my spark plugs. I brought to Premier so they could do an assessment on it. They call me and tell me that I also need to get my head gaskets replaces and I have a leak in my axel. I got this car less then a year and a half ago. They said they could give me a deal and fix the head casket and axel leak for 2,900.00 I have already put 1,000.00 into this car. So if I took the deal I would have put 3,900.00 into a car that is worth 5,500. Yah I said no. They weren't willing to help me at all and I am so upset. This is a car that I put my nieces and nephew in. They should have never sold this car. Do not buy a used car from them! They are awful and only want money. read more

I have a 2009 WRX hatchback which I purchased from Carmax almost 2 years ago. I also got maxcare which I recommend 10/10 - & since buying the car had it not been for the warranty I would've been $7500 out on parts and labor. I have always brought it too this dealership to get serviced & I must say... DO NOT GO THERE FOR SERVICE. It's a hassle and they do bad work. After all the transmission and engine work I have done to it there, at one point they where taking my whole engine apart to replace some internals & I took the liberty to replace the clutch out of pocket because the warranty doesn't cover that. So I pay about $1100 to do the clutch on top of some other things and 3-5 months later I'm back in the shop getting the release bearing replaced because it had already failed. A few weeks ago I start hearing a loud rattle as I take off or come to a stop or shift at high RPMs... So originally I thought it was my catalytic converter because I've had the problem on a different car but come to find out the honest men at American Mufflers here on Whalley Ave in New Haven CT discovered that my F******* drive shaft was completely loose in the middle with no bolts... I'd expect this from a back yard mechanic but not from a dealership. Totally dissatisfied with their service. Beyond that they had a girl named Erika who was rude on the phone because she would not return my calls when I asked about the status of my multiple repairs & the service manager lied to my parts warranty insurance about the replacement of the release bearing the second time I went in to get it replaced & he told me about it. He said "I had to word it differently so that your parts warranty would cover it" even tho that should have been covered under the Subaru warranty. His name is Gary. I would never go there again & unless you wanna go thru what I did, do not go there. I wish I could leave no stars because they don't even deserve one. read more

This is supposedly the ONLY AAA approved Subaru Repair shop in Connecticut.This dealership is an embarrassment to itself, Subaru and to AAA, and it should be removed from their preferred list of vendors. They are incompetent in repairs, rude, have zero interest in customer service, and utilize false advertising to draw people in. Then they fail to deliver on their promises, as outlined below: I have a new 2016 Forester with radio problems. 1st, they advertise they have the largest fleet of loaner cars in CT - 20 Cars. Yet, each time I have called to make an appointment and ask for a loaner, I am RUDELY rebuffed, telling me it is at least a 2 week wait. WHY brag and advertise about your HUGE loaner fleet if you are not willing to loan a car? On first visit, I finally convinced them to give me a loaner, I lost a day's work, and when I got back in the car, the radio was still broken. They offered me a half price detailing if I would come back and let them fix the radio, because they needed a "download" from central Subaru to re-program the radio. Again, it was like pulling teeth to get a loaner for the second visit, but finally they agreed. Again, I lost a day's work. When I got back in the car, I noticed the shoddy detailing, AND that they had scratched a plastic piece of the console in detailing it, AND the radio was still broken. At first Service Mgr Gary Christiansen said he would replace the plastic, then he reneged on his word (as all LIARS do) and said the damage was "my Fault" and they would do nothing. I asked the "Customer Concierge" Barb Mullen to intervene - she walked away when the conflict was on to "have her lunch." Again, they advertise online and in the shop with a BIG poster with her picture that she is the only "Customer Concierge" in CT, and she has "managerial authority" to help. Yet, she told me she "needed to check with the owner" Bob Alvine about assisting me, and he said NO. Now they tell me I have to come back for a 3rd attempt to fix the radio, and they will absolutely NOT give me a loaner. I am supposed to sit there in their cramped waiting room and wait AND lose another day of work while they TRY to figure out what is wrong after TWO failed attempts. I would never go to them again, or recommend them for anything, and they should be taken off AAA's preferred vendor list. read more

just bought a used car from Premier. Horrible customer service experience. Had to fight tooth and nail to get a recall fix performed before we picked up the car. We were told No...because the recall doesn't go into effect until "next week". Fortunately due to snow, our pick up date was postponed until after the magical recall date. No one offered to fix the recall, we had to read the car fax report to find the fix was still necessary. We bought the car without financing and it took us 2 1/2 hours to get the car. Part of that was waiting until the recall fix was done. Never again will I go to Premier AND I will actively tell people to avoid the place. My thought process at time was need to buy close to home needing to service close to home but after that experience will drive further to a better rated dealer for service anyway. We keep returning to this dealership as we feel that the Premier team treats us fair and are very professional. Worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. It would be a diss to compare them to anyone else in retail. When you ask them politely to fix things, they answer with horrible attitude and tons of excuses. Then, when you don't give up or allow yourself to be walked all over, they "close" your "file" and tell you to seek service elsewhere. I've had this car for less than 3 months and they want nothing to do with me. See ya. THEN, they say they're done with me, but instead screen shot and email my internet complaints to my employer to try to get me in trouble. For someone whose file is "closed" they sure keep opening it. My first new car in my life and the entire experience was a disaster. Don't shop here unless you enjoy doing business with shady, rude people. I recently bought a used Impreza from Premier Subaru. The business manager I worked with, Rob, was very professional and thorough, as well as kind and courteous. The general sales manager, David Taylor, however was horrendously rude and crass. His interpersonal skills were deplorable. I have never been addressed with such abrupt rudeness from a salesperson - it was disgusting. He failed to even introduce himself to me, just started in on a rude rant about price negotiations. I wasn't even in his office, but he went out of his way to walk across the building, interrupt the conversation I was having with Rob, and address me and my mother in a rude and disrespectful way that was entirely unfitting of a professional salesperson. He completely ruined my entire experience at this dealership and my entire family found him off putting and unprofessional. If it's true that a sales business should put its best foot forward, then I'd suggest cutting this one off entirely. read more

The only way ANY Dealer would get 5 stars is if they had Fresh Coffee and half&half of Lt Cream to go with it. The day i came in the dealership it was slammed with customers (Presidents Day) they must of delivered 10 cars in the hour and a half i was there impressive. Premier offered the MOST for my used Subaru VS 6 other dealerships i was shopping. I had a rookie salesperson who was polite, non pushy, and put up with my animated appeal for a good deal. They (Premier) gave a offer i could refuse, net net, but i wanted the car. First impression the car was immaculate for presentation vs another dealer`s who`s car was identical except for the color, that car was "dirty" to show a prospective buyer. I spent $3500.00 more than i wanted too, but i got tons of Xtras that i`m still reading the damn manual to learn about. Was interested in a 2006 Baja they listed 2 weeks ago for $12000. Was told when I wanted to see it that it had to be inspected and needed new head gaskets. price went up $300. had an appointment tonight [5/19] to look at and purchased--got a phone call this afternoon that they sold it after I was promised I had first crack at it. My original review somehow was deleted... so here it is again-- I purchased a 2006 outback 1 year ago this passed April. The salesman Mark G was extremely friendly & helpful. This particular car was advertised as a certified preowned car which made me comfortable buying it after looking over the list of what is inspected to qualify to be sold as certified. The car was also priced a bit higher than the non certified cars on the lot which I was ok with. Fast forward to the delivery of our new Certified preowned car. We had already sold the vehicle we were replacing keep in mind. At the delivery we were told they had made a mistake and the car was too old to be sold as Certified but there was an extended warranty available if we were interested, at a cost of course... They did not offer to adjust the sale price of the car because it now was not being sold as certified, when I asked I was told the price was the price and it couldn't be adjusted. There was also no assistance available purchasing the extended warranty for $1600. Remember I had sold my vehicle already and couldn't leave my wife & daughter w/o a car so I had no choice but to move forward and buy this car. My opinion is Premier made the mistake advertising this car as something it wasn't so as a stand up business they should not have transferred the cost of this error on to the customer. Fast forward again, My wife brings the car in for an oil change and was told the front axle boots need to be replaced at a cost of $600. We held off on doing the repair at the time. After looking over the extended warranty I purchased if found the axle boots are covered! Great right, well my wife calls the service department and speaks w/ Cindy. My wife explained the situation and was put on hold, when she came back she said she spoke w/ Kristen & Gary who I assume are the service managers who both said that repair is never covered. When my wife asked to speak with either Kristen or Gary she was told she couldn't. Great customer service! Now we call the warranty company and explain the required repair reading it right off the service slip from Premier. We were told this repair is absolutely covered, all Premier has to do is call when the car is in the shop. Now we call Premier back and speak to Ashley and go through the whole story. She was extremely helpful, she made the appointment and in the end the repair was covered by the warranty. So from the delivery of the car with the whole certified vehicle error to the discovery of the axle boot repair that should have been covered by the warranty but was never looked into by Premier every department of Premier Subaru has fallen short of my expectations of a dealership of their reputation. Moving forward I will bring my car to a different Subaru dealer for service and certainly will not be a return customer of Premier Subaru. read more

I bought a new car here and overall the experience was okay. The salesperson I ended up working with told me they'd call me in regards to insurance (because I was doing a trade) a few days before I was due to pick up the car and never heard from them. My calls to them were never returned or ever acknowledged. After I signed the initial paperwork (purchase order) and made a down payment for the car, Premier's website had my exact car (VIN listed and everything) listed ~$1200 cheaper than what I was told I would be paying. About 1 hour before I was scheduled to pick up the car, I got a call asking if I was doing a trade in (which they knew I was) - and the response was that I needed to get there ASAP since the switch in insurance takes longer. Had they called me and spoke to me when they promised, they wouldn't have had to rush me there the day-of. Lastly, upon arriving home from the dealership with the new car, I saw I had a missed call from the salesperson asking about how my drive home was - which was nice. But when I got home, I realized there was a chip in the paint - something that was not caused by me. I returned the call and left a voicemail with my concern. I have not heard a word back and as of now it has been 3 weeks since I got the car. Overall, I would maybe recommend looking at other dealerships to purchase a car but my experience wasn't the worst. read more

I ordered a 2015 Forester about a month ago. I dealt with Herman Winston, who was a real pleasure to work with from beginning to end. He couldn't have been more accommodating. Jeff Irzyk, with whom I finalized the deal (extended warranties, paint protection, key replacement coverage, etc.), was also delightful to work with. Even though a certain amount of "up-selling" is part of the nature of their jobs, I never felt the slightest bit of pressure from either of them; the whole process felt like a friendly discussion of options. We picked up our brand new Subaru Crosstrek on Thursday with 6 miles on it. On Friday morning while running a few errands, the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree and the car had to be towed. They do not have any idea of what's wrong but I do not want this car back. After recently purchasing my "Certified Pre Owned" 08 Outback at Premier Subaru of Branford,I was blind-sided at closing by the Business Manager with regard to the extended warrantee, which, if financed, does not go into effect until the contract fee is paid in full (A rather key point never mentioned by the "business Manager", which I discovered only when I received my paperwork a week later in the mail. Perhaps that should be pointed out at closing, don't you think?) Within three weeks of purchase, I had to bring the car back in for: anti-freeze smell (no coolant in the reservoir), the front brake rotors being so out of round that the wheel nearly shook out my hands on I91, oh yeah..and the right rear wheel bearing was shot and needed to be replaced. Certified, eh....what did they "certify"?. Did the mechanic see his reflection in the mirror- note that there were indeed four tires on the car and give it the old Premier "Thumbs up"? To be fair- they did fix the problems (they had to, it was still under the mandated used car warrantee) I contacted the owner, who did respond promptly (unlike the Sales Manager who couldn't be bothered) and he agreed to buy back the car at my request. Now- "Buy Back" to me means what was paid for the car less a reasonable usage charge. Not the opinion shared by the owner (who obviously earned his car sale laurels from "Fair Deal Frank's Used Ca & Laser Hair Removal Emporium") After having been kept waiting in the showroom for half an hour, he patronized me for another 25 minutes or so with such gems as: "Remember, Seamus, Certified doesn't mean new" (Golllly, Mr. Car Salesman....you sure are smatter than me, duh-huh, duh-huh) I walked out of that dealership with hat ( and VERY little else) in hand. Just wanted to say thanks to premier Subaru. Recently bought my first car and I was very nervous about it (my ex husband took care of all those big deals when I was married) I expected to be pushed around by some awful sales person and get a terrible deal. But from the moment I walked in I was treated like I knew what I was doing. I had a wonderful sales woman, Helena, who really listened to my needs. I told her what I wanted and what I could afford...and that's what I got. No pushy sales, no pressure, no problems. I bought a used Legacy 2.0, and I love it. Just picked up our 2015 Subaru Forester from Premier Subaru and had an excellent experience. All the paperwork was in order and everything went smoothly and quickly. Salesmen Herman was extremely knowledgeable. He explained all the options on the car, helped me pair my phone and install my contacts into the handsfree system, and even took me for a test drive, making sure that I understood how everything worked. Was extremely pleased with the entire transaction and can't recommend Premier Subaru enough.
