It's funny how most of the negative comments about screaming kids are usually coming from people who don't have kids, obviously for good reason! That being said....My well behaved children & I love this place.The wraps are yummy, I LOVE their Hummus, the coffee's are good, not great, but good, the Madelines come in handy for "Mom, I'm hungry." moments.Sometimes the lines are bad, and you have to wait a while, but, hey? There are few things nicer than popping over to Progressive Grounds for a lavash wrap with the children, before nipping across the road to Red Hill Books. Lovely cafe with the bustling front room, quiet cushion filled back room and small sunny garden at the back. The kids love it here. Service is friendly. Food is delicious - well the wraps are. The ambience is very nice, you have 3 different types of seating - a typical quick to eat and work place, a nice cozy middle room with lots of cushions, and a outdoor seating area. It's usually not very crowded compared to Martha's. That's got to do with their food and beverage quality, it's descent, but not very good. read more

Progressive Grounds is trying to do the best to satisfy their customers; however, some customers judge situations before understanding what's going on; for instance, the lady that said that one of the owners called a mentally ill person called R "crazy", R has been coming to PG for many years and he gets 3 to 4 cups of coffee a day for free, sometimes he comes upset and talks lowed; if you don't know him you'll be scared. When Aziz saw R screaming, he tried to calm him down by telling him what's going on R you're my friend R said "I'm not your friend" that's when the lady came in and judged the situation as she described in her review. I'm writing this review because I was there. Aziz has been jockeying with R for many years and he makes him lough. I guess it was just a misunderstanding of the situation from the lady's perspective. read more

I could not believe it when I heard that some people disliked the chai at Progressive Grounds. Not only do I like the chai, I think it's some of the best in the city... Unfortunately, I think that Progressive may have unsuspectingly served its superior chai to some Starbucks "Chai" customer--you know the type--where if it doesn't taste like overly sweet, artificial, liquid pumpkin pie, it's not good. Such a terrible thing that so many people don't know a good chai when they taste one. In general, I love Progressive, but my two favorite things about the place are the chai and the cinnamon croissants. But get there early for the croissants--they run out fast! Thanks Progressive, for being awesome. And as far as the kid-haters below are concerned--I would suggest hanging out somewhere other than Bernal if you don't like loud, rambunctious, joyful children. read more

I used to go to Progressive Ground when I ' m in Bernal Height.The last few times the service and the waiting time was awful.I have been waiting to be served for a while, the asian lady behind the counter was so rude. The place was not busy, she was just refilling something. I guess that is more important to help a customer who is waiting for long time.No apologize and she was not sorry, just "wait" she said. Is not the first time that this place disappointed me, I decided not to buy food when I did see the girl sneeze and make a bagel.Obviusly they are not clean.Even their glasses are dirty!Really?!No thank you.There are better coffee shops around.Their coffee is watery or inconsistent anyways. read more

I live right around the corner from Progressive Grounds and am grateful to have this little gem so close. If you want a comfortable, enchanting place to study, grab a cup of tea, have a bite, or just meet with a friend, this is it. -The owners are incredibly friendly. Actually, the whole staff is quite personable and helpful. -The food is priced average, but is yummy and served in big portions. Whenever I get wraps, I'm fed for two meals :) The coffee is always fresh and they make a mean mocha. Also, they have fresh pastries daily (the blueberry bran muffin is my favorite) and loads of delicious treats. The apricot bar is divine, so are the oat cakes. BONUS: All treats are labeled with what the ingredients are. They serve soup with pita bread & often have fresh baked cakes/breads such as coffee, pumpkin, and banana. YUM Oh, and Mitchell's ice cream. -Prices are very very low! A double soy latte for $2.50?! A large tea for 1.75?! There are a handful of coffee places on Cortland such as Martha's and Sandbox, but they are super pricy. The quality at Progressive is as high as I've experience without it being all organic. -There is a lot of seating. There are tables up front and then walk to the back and it's a cozy, cave-like area (including a burning fireplace on chilly, rainy days.) There is also a pretty little outdoor back garden/patio which is nice when the weather is decent. -Free Wi-Fi. Like any other cafe in San Francisco, don't be surprised when you walk in to see people's fingers pecking away on their Macbooks. -Once in a while (usually on Sundays) a bluegrass band comes in and practices in the back. Good ambience.... Overall, there's nothing negative for me to say about this place. I love it and practically live there. read more

Wondered in here after training a client who lives in the area. The menu had delectable items, savory mixes between Parisian street food crepes such as au petit grec and Middle-Eastern specialties such as lahambajin. In the meantime, the owner prepared me a "small" but very substantial yogurt parfait and a strong, well-balanced Americano. However, despite the glow in my eyes, I was told that they only begin serving paninis and lavash wraps after 10:30. Small place with free wi-fi, affordable rustic nibbles and the owner's pleasant warbling in French will see me return for a casual friend date or sun-streamed reading or email catch-up day. read more

This place is my HAVEN! Absolutely love and adore this place with all of my heart. The workers have always been so nice and friendly. I end up spending the whole day here for breakfast and lunch. Everything that I have tried on the menu has been fantastic. In the mornings I love getting a white mocha here and a bagel with eggs, turkey, and cheese and studying. It has the best ambiance and if it does get a little loud I just put my headphones on. I cant wait until they open up the outside finally! This place is a gem! read more

I usually get like a very smoothie with no yogurt. This is a good spot to come and work or just hang out bc it's got outlets as well to charge and there's WiFi. I'm not sure if they've fixed whatever was going on outside in the back yet! There's normally a spot you can sit outside if that's your thing. Also there's like pillows and a fireplace. I have been here many many times, and I really don't enjoy the experience of being a customer. But I'm very glad it's here, because it creates a nice center-point for the neighborhood - a bench for people to sit on, a bathroom if you need it after visiting Holly Park, and a lot of action. I also appreciate the low price on the junior sized Mitchells ice cream (I think they only charged me $1 for it last time - cool!). But I try not to go there - it just doesn't work for me. If I want a quick coffee, I don't go there because it takes too long. If I want to sit and work, I don't go there because it is too loud, my cell phone gets no connection, and I'm paranoid that someone is going to steal my laptop if I look away from it for 2 seconds. I also find the milk area smells a bit like spoilt milk and always has flies about. It just doesn't work for me. Stil it gets 3 stars because I love what it does for the neighborhood. read more

I love Progressive pretty much everyday, except on the dreaded weekend when things can get a little hairy, especially on sunday... they are super, (too), kid friendly, which is fine, except for the strollers and the crying, and the whining, and the baby-talking parents!!! I love progressive grounds. They have a huge selection of breakfast and lunch items and a variety of pastries. Their wraps are fantastic and they even serve Mitchell's ice cream. The staff is friendly and they have toys for kids to play with. If the weather permits you can hang out at their oh-so-nice patio. The only downsides are the pillows in their back section. They look kind of dirty and uninviting but you can just move them aside. All in all a wonderful place to study, chat or just hang out. read more

Progressive Grounds is my go-to place for breakfast on Cortland. It's fast, cheap, and simple. The croissant sandwiches are kind of basic, but delicious. I only wish they made more croissants because they always run out. I'm not the biggest coffee fan, but everyone I bring to Progressive says that the coffee is good. The chai is super strong and spicy, so it may not be for everyone. They offer a variety of lunch items as well, mostly of the Mediterranean variety. I've had their salmon wrap, which was pleasantly huge and tasty. If you're a big smoothie fan, you have to have their berry blast. I have gone to Progressive Grounds just for that alone. Like other places on Cortland, it offers seating in a patio at back in addition to the two seating area in front, making it a great place to work on a computer (free Wi-Fi!) or simply people watch. I think what it has above the rest of the places it's that it is more neighborhood-y. Because of the changing art on the wall, the eclectic group of customers, and chill vibes, it just says Bernal to me. read more
