I usually buy baked fish at Nam Giao, Bien Hen and Thien An restaurant sometimes their' fish under medicore and pricey. Normally I order to go. I have ordered 10 times from Ca nuong SaiGon and Im surprised. The fish always fresh, and price is beatable compared to the another restaurant. Their medium fish is enough for 2 adults and 1 teenager. Now this is the place I order baked fish every week. They do not update the business hour. This place is open for takeout during COVID! I was craving viet baker catfish and decided to give this place a try. For only $25, this place was everything I hoped for! I got a small fish to share with one other person and it took us two meals to finish everything. For takeout, they put the fish in a huge disposable roasting tray and also pack the rice papers, bun, sauces, pickled raffish and carrots, veggies and herbs for you. Super convenient! The two default sauces they give you are a sweet and salty tamarind based sauce and a super smelly shrimp paste sauce which I haven't acquired the taste for lol. So I asked them to give me regular fish sauce on the side. The fish is perfectly fried and crispy on the outside, and fall off the bone soft inside. The skin is my favorite part. It's very flavorful and stretchy. I wish this place wasn't hidden in the back of a market so more people would know about it. read more

It's located in the supermarket upstair you can either if market still open go through their front entrance on the side and make a right then pass the glass displays vendors look to your right see that suspicious alleyway go in there and you'll see the stair just go all the way until you reach food court and it'll be at the end. If you want shortcut just park all the way in the back of the market usually where dumpsters are park along the walls where there is apartment building behind it and stairs going up along the market. read more

Came with all the veggie trimming, vermicelli, rice paper and tamarind and anchovies sauce. I liked both sauce so I ended up alternating between the 2. However tamarind was the better of the 2 and probably for people who dislike the pungent smell of the anchovies sauce. My friend and I were talking about coming back here and trying the hot pot. Not gonna sugar coat this. The location of this place is pretty whack. It's located on the 2nd floor of a supermarket in an area that you wouldn't have suspected even existed. You'll walk up some industrial looking (ghetto) stairs, walk down an industrial (ghetto) hallway lined with tacky portrait photos from the 90s from a photography business, and you'll wonder if you're heading in the right direction. You may also wonder if you should turn back. Finally at the far end of the hallway, you'll see a food court with a few vendors and you'll know you've arrived. It felt like we were on a scavenger hunt to find the hidden restaurant. For 2 people, I'd really recommend getting the medium size fish for $30. We ordered the small fish for $20 and wish we had ordered the medium. The small fish made about 5 healthy hand rolls. The small fish would be suitable for one person even. The fish was delivered to our table piping hot. Even after taking a couple of minutes to take pics, upon slicing the fish open, fresh hot steam wafted out. My family saw an advertisement of this restaurant on one of the Vietnamese channels and wanted to check out this place versus going toour usual ca nuong restaurant. This restaurant is situated in the strangest and sketchiest looking place. To enter you'll need to enter the market and follow the signs to the second floor and walk down this old nasty looking hallway. Not a good place for elderly people since the walk from the stairs/elevator is quite far. As other reviewers has mentioned, their service is a bit slow. Order the grilled fish but none of the usual items came out with it like the rice paper, the veggies or utensils. Also double check your plates/utensils because more than 90% of the things we got were still dirty. Most restaurant when you ask for more veggies its included with the price but here they charge you extras...who does that?? I would definitely not recommend this place. read more

It was an adventure finding this place. This place is located on the second floor inside Saigon market, tucked away at the very end of the small food court. There are many little shops that don't seem to ever open. I think it was probably very popular back in the day. It's sad to see it the way it is today. It can feel pretty scary if you've never been here before. I had been here before and still got a little lost. We came here around 8pm tonight and I think that's when the market closes. We asked the security guy on how to get there. He pointed at the sign and asked how can we miss it. It's a big sign but I didn't know what it was pointing. I had been to the second floor before but I had never gone up there from outside. There was an elevator but my cousin joked that we should take the stairs just in case we get stuck in the elevator and nobody would find us. We took the stairs from the outside to the second floor, only to find out the door was closed. Ran back down and took the elevator lol Service: 5/5 You can't expect much from a viet place, especially one that is inside a market. But we were greeted right away. Got seated and menu was provided within the first 30 seconds. She was nice. That's enough to earn a 5. Food: 5/5 A small baked catfish is only $19.99. Other sizes are comparable to other places, but a small one is the best deal. My cousin wanted a large one. Normally I'd compromise and get a medium, but tonight we opted for a small cause we're both on a diet lol. My cousin can eat a loooot and he kept asking why there's so much meat on this small fish. The fish came out within 20 minutes. It didn't have the bright orange color like other places but it was super crunchy. The fish was meaty but not fatty. I think the bigger the fish, the more fat it has. You'd probably get a better deal to order 2 small ones if you want a large one (same price). Veggies were fresh. Came with 2 sauces. Normally I don't care for the tamarind sauce but it looked very good and tasted amazing!!! Best tamarind sauce!! The fermented fish sauce wasn't as good. It was a bit too strong and salty. It needed some sweetness from the pineapple to balance the saltiness of the sauce. While we were there, a few people came to pick up com Gia dinh (family meal - typical it comes with rice and 2 side dishes plus a soup for $6) Overall, great value for a small catfish. It's located within a plaza, upstairs from a supermarket, and was somewhat difficult to find. There's a big parking lot. It's a small restaurant but we got seated quickly. We ordered the medium-sized oven-baked catfish, $30 I believe, unless the price has changed. That easily fed 3 hungry Asians who could all eat larger than their size. And it was delicious. It's one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes, and they certainly made it to the liking of my spoiled tastebuds. Super hole in the wall place with a sketchy stairwell. But these are the places with the best food right? Pickup: upon entering the restaurant/food court? I was greeted by super friendly ladies who asked if I had ordered yet and told me they would prepare the fish for Togo. Veggies and everything else was already packed up they just needed to pack up the fish. Wait time was maybe 5 minutes if even. Food: fish is crunchy (which my family loves), pretty decent size for a large. (I feel like some restaurants try to rip you off by saying a medium is a large) but this big ole thing was a large large enough to feed 4 people and have a little left over! So I think it could safely feed around 5 people. Flavor is delish. Fish smells very fragrant. Dipping sauce was a tamarind sauce that was a little sweeter and fruitier tasting sauce than your average mam nem dipping sauce (also my fave sauce from ca nuong restaurants thus far!)
