I know i've reviewed this place before, but wanted to chime in with something i haven't seen mentioned in other reviews. There is a bit more going on than just wandering in off the street. Rbar is suprisingly group friendly, even if it's a last minute group. Believe me i know! Most Monday nights there is live music. Sometimes it's awesome (HoneyHoney or Coldwar Kids) ans other times it's just live music (which is still nice to know you can find some locally but not be mobbed by kids or hipsters). Plus on the first Wednesday of the month is comedy night. Local comics working on their material. Come down and have a chuckle. Plus the door guy on Wed nights is a hoot too! Oh, and one more thing i haven't read on other reviews- This place is very party friendly. You can plan a bash here anything from a Bday or Farewell to a movie showing! It's nice to find a friendly place that can go out of the way to make sure your taken care of. read more

Bar with a password? I've only been here for happy hour, but R Bar turned out to be a pretty laid back experience. There's live music, and it doesn't seem to get that crowded because there's a password system (although if you go early enough I don't think they care too much about the PW!) Happy hour specials aren't that bad. This place definitely has a more of an east coast vibe to it. People there are pretty cool, and aren't all stuck up like some other places I've been to. Always a good vibe every time I've been here. This is just a fun place to be. They make good drinks, the bartenders have always seemed pretty cool despite it being busy, and the price is reasonable. There is a taco truck across the street so if you get a couple drinks and feel hungry you got the perfect midnight snack. All I can say is, if you have come out with the attitude of wanting to have fun, this place just amps up those vibes. Everyone I've run into here has seemed pretty pleasant. This place is... interesting. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. The password aspect is funny. You can find it via FB so that's cool BUT the DJ was NO good, unless it was amateur night - if it was, you should practice more. My phone does better song transitions and picks better selections on shuffle. We went for "90's hip-hop" and this dude was all over the place. If you don't play what was advertised, you're just a jerk with a computer and **** playlist. Prices seemed weird at the bar. Nothing was an even $8 or $11. Instead it was $8.25 or $11.25, I'm not complaining but it was weird to get loose change. Otherwise cool spot. Everyone seemed like they were from the neighborhood and looking to chill. The buddy special during happy hour is an insane deal. Wings, beers, AND shots?! For only a crisp $20?? Yes please. I recommend everybody come during karaoke night, you get a bit of everything - from semi professionals to completely tone deaf singers. But it's all in good fun, everyone has a good time. Small vibey bar. Bartender chick forgot to make my drink waited 15 min never got it. In her defense they were somewhat busy. Karaoke is sort of the background character here. Out of all the karaoke bars in LA this one gives you the least amount of juice on the mic. Mic is barely on get ready to hurt your vocals trying to be heard at all. Chill lighting & crowd. I really love this spot. It's dark, romantic, there's random corners you can take your date to make out. They also have live music and sometimes live screenings of movies from local movie makers. If they're not playing live music or movies, they're playing 80's on the speakers (at least that's the music that was playing on a Thursday night). They make good strong drinks here -- a really mean dirty martini! I don't know if they were reasonably priced or not because I didn't pay for them. One thing to know is that you need a password to get in, which you can find on their Facebook or Twitter feed. Last thing I should mention is parking can be found on the street. A password? Really? That was a bit of a turn-off already. It'd be one thing if the place was overflowing and that was a way for crowd control, but it felt practically empty on a Saturday night. Came here with a large group and was happy that we were able to find seats for all of us since it wasn't crowded at all. With it not being busy, I couldn't understand why it took some time for one of the two bartenders to take our order. Music just didn't jive with the scene and my Moscow mule was just ok. Came in on a Friday night for happy hour and we didn't need to get the password. The happy hour was legit; $5 feta fries and $6 drafts. Cocktails were not that cheap ($8 each) but they were strong. The bartender was super nice. It wasn't that full so our drinks were never empty; she made sure we were getting the most out of happy hour as possible. The outside of the bar is all black. You can't really tell what it is unless you know what you're looking for. The decor reminds me of Interview With A Vampire. It's dark with a whole bunch of chandeliers and red velvet chairs/couches. This bar is super close to my boyfriend's place so it's really easy and quick to uber there, which is a big plus! I love the ambience inside too, all the chandeliers and rococo decoration give it a cool vintage feel. I also love that there's an area in the back where you can chill on comfy cushions, and there's self serve water!! Self serve water is a major benefit and not something you find at a lot of bars, so that makes it a cut above. I like the music they play here, it's not standard pop or EDM. Last night was rock/alternative that still had a good beat, I enjoyed it a lot. The drinks are good too, I usually get a gin and tonic or a Moscow Mule and they're made well. The hash browns taste like it's been seasoned with rice-a-roni packets. The omelette isn't something you can't make at home. Literally a cheese slice is thrown on top. Toast is toasted appropriately and it's . My friend had the chilaquiles- the beans were cold. Again, the drinks were great. Can't beat bottomless mimosas. It's a bar, not a restaurant. It was very easy to make a reservation via email and they were super accommodating for my large party of 20. They had a great spot set up for us and it's a super cool looking bar. Great staff. Delicious drinks. Reasonable prices. And the best part is that this random dive bar in Koreatown had some of the best food I've had in a while. My husband and I are foodies and regularly try all the trendy restaurants and Michelin rated spots and this truly was better than most of those. The Mac & cheese and Australian sausage rolls were 10000/10. Great burger and caprese salad too. We will definitely come again!!!! read more

Overall the atmosphere is very fun and karaoke is such a great lively touch to the place. It was my first time and had a great time but one of your workers has the worst attitude I've ever experienced. At first he didn't want to make a drink I asked for and wanted me to order a margarita/Paloma. When my friend got the same drink before me? He gives my drink very rudely and it tasted disgusting. We asked to remake it and he begins to argue with me saying that I ordered the worse drink and I don't know what I'm getting. "I don't give a f#%* if you leave a YeLp ReVieW" He CONTINUES to argue even more with me to the point where his female coworker tells him to stop. For someone who's "in tHe InDuStrY fOr TeN yEaRs" treat your customers nicely. I regret paying 18 bucks and I wish I got a refund after the whole argument. Why are you hiring people who are so disrespectful ? And it's a woman owned business why is a grown man trying to belittle me? Cool, niche, homey, divey yet classy bar in K-Town. Very friendly staff, vibrant personalities were in surplus. Drink deals were off -the -chain ...meaning they were great, especially during Happy Hour. Went during a karaoke session, which as promised, didn't turn out to have the next Adele, but was fun nonetheless. Not typically a fan of this neighborhood, as I feel the risk of crime outweighs the potential for a fun night, but would like to find myself back here one day, if someone else drives of course. :) read more

I found out about this place through an article on Thrillist. I want to like this place but I guess it's not entirely fair to them for me to review them based on my first visit (ever) to their fairly new(ly implemented) brunch. They're known for speakeasy (at night obviously) and I couldn't imagine that during the daytime and with their sports bar-esque decor. The servers were nice. But for some reason orders for 3 people took a very long time to arrive. And when they did, the food didn't taste as good as it looked. They were very bland. My hash browns were burnt, and I even forgot to ask for extra crispy. Just because it's located in KTown doesn't mean it's Korean-owned or -operated. It is anything but. You can get drafts of cheap-O beer such as Bud Light, or you can opt for a whiskey sour or one of the other fancy drink choices they have. He embarrassed me in front of everyone in the bar getting political talking about Rosa parks and he won't stand for it. It was a song it would be different if I called him that directly. Came here on a Monday evening for trivia night which supposedly began at 830. It was three of us and we were worried we'd end up competing against each other. However more and more people trickled in and it became full inside the bar! It is all night happy hour during trivia night which is great! Winners get a $20 off tab I believe. This is one of the coolest spots I've ever gone to, it requires a password to enter, the decor is like being back in time. The drinks were awesome and the service was great. Jewls was our server, she get an A+ for her service. Her personality was awesome. R Bar's sloppy service maxed out my AmEx for a week, causing me a huge headache. Was in for drinks. Decided to give a $10 additional tip (on top of their automatic 20%) but when they input the tip into their system at the end of the night, they entered it as ONE THOUSAND AND TEN DOLLARS, not ten dollars. When I called the next day, I was told that they cancelled the charge on their end. Great. HOWEVER, the transaction is still "pending" on my account. AmEx rep said it will take EIGHT DAYS for that pending charge to drop off. Had they instead reversed the charge, it would have cleared in 48 hours. R Bar not only crippled my card for a week, but also dinged my credit rating, just because someone wasn't being careful punching in a tip. This is my first ever Yelp review, because I've had some lousy food, some bad service, and some wrong orders at places before, but things happen. Went on a Sunday and door guy asked me for a password. After debating with him for 5 mins he finally told me I can find it on facebook. I looked it up and told him the (stupid) password. After he let me in there were 3 other people in there. Not sure why you would potentially not let people in when you have almost no customers. I get the idea of a speakeasy theme but you need to be practical at some point I ordered a bourbon drink from their specialty menu. 3 of the 8 drinks on their specialty menu were advertised as being made with Buffalo Trace Bourbon. I ordered one of them and watched the bartender make it. I noticed she grabbed a bottle of Jack Daniels. I asked her what she was doing and her response was "We are out of Buffalo Trace, have been for awhile so we make it with Jack." I then asked her if they had any other Bourbon and she replied yes so I asked her to make it with one of those. Not sure why you would substitute a bourbon with Jack when you have other bourbons available. Also not sure why you would have so many drinks on your specialty menu made with Buffalo Trace when you do not even have it in stock. I ordered two drinks (one for other person in my party) and she took about 6 mins to make both despite not having any other drink orders to take care of. I had so much fun coming here for Brunch on a sunday! They do bottomless mimosas for $15 (plus purchase of $10 of food) until 3 pm. Decor is hodgepodge of different textures, fixtures, and furniture, but everything was perfectly clean. Not crowded at all at 12 on a Sunday, which was wonderful. I had a breakfast burrito with chorizo for breakfast, and it wasn't my favorite, but it was a great price and lots of food. Service was good "Karaoke Brunch" starts at 2 pm, and bless the Staind-loving guy who helps fill in the gaps while customers own their drinks.
