Had such a lovely experience here! The hospitality and overall customer service were terrific. Our hostess Andrea really went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable and taken care of, which made our whole visit feel so warm and genuine. I don't usually get coffee from outside, but I tried one of the specialty iced coffees from Mad Coffee and it was soooo yummy. Tasted exactly like the description promised. For a little hidden cafe the food is amazing! Which is not a bad thing on little small cafes but definitely was surprised and the server was also super attentive even though she was obviously busy with a full restaurant. Anything we have ever gotten at Rafael's has been delicious! Highly recommend for a nice brunch spot. Their seats outside give off a nice vibe, and the bottomless mimosas are always a plus. Service has been a hit or miss depending on how busy they are but it has never been negative enough to leave a bad review. We are family of 3. Sat down for about 10 mins got completely ignored. We made eye contact couple times with the female server. She just avoided looking at us, and proceed to start conversation with another family who just sat down, who came 10 mins after us, went over the menu and took their order. We were out with our pups looking for a place to eat that would also be dog friendly. Thankfully, Rafael's popped up on our list of possible eateries. After parking in the parking lot behind the building we made our way to the restaurant. We were greeted at the entry and shown a place on the patio. It was nice to see other pups with their owners. We ordered coffee first then our meals. I ordered the Santa Ana burrito and my wife ordered the club sandwich. Food was delivered very quickly. Really enjoyed the freshness of the ingredients. The flavors were on point. Our server was so pleasant and kind to our pups. By the way, they do have a few items on the menu you can order for your pup. Overall, Rafael's was a wonderful gem of a restaurant hidden in the tall buildings a few blocks west of South Coast Plaza. We went to Rafael's for lunch and ordered the Pastrami Pizza. The toppings were great, but it tasted like the crust was frozen or pre-made. The server had no personality and barely visited the table. I just think maybe improve on ingredients and service. 3 stars because server was kind, just maybe shouldn't be front of house staff- better off in the back. So we came thinking it was the old place but they had just converted it over to this place. We decided to still give it a try, why not. It's an Italian restaurant now. They have parking on the other side of the road and they do validate but check to see how long. We were still charged $6.25 for a little over 2 hours. I was not happy about that. They should have mentioned that and we would have left sooner. Oh well, you can't leave the lot until you pay. Super friendly staff which was above par. The food though I thought was just ok. They have a bistro dinner which is great for $39 which includes app, entree and dessert. The best app was the prosciutto bruschetta. it was very tasty and highly recommend. They let us try this which was super nice. We both thought the soups were ok. My friend enjoyed her entree though. Give them a try. SYOY! read more

Really disappointed in the loss of quality all around, when it changed to new ownership and we lost Roquette Bistro. The Mad Coffee matcha drink was watered down to an undrinkable level. The latte was average at best. They expanded the menu to be 5x the size as before, got rid of the amazing desserts and the pastries are not the same quality as before. The main courses were also average at best. Before, as Roquette Bistro, they focused on fresh ingredients and presenting mind blowing quality all around. Now, I recognize nothing about the Roquette that I loved, and I will never be coming back. A shame that this is how the world goes. Places with real passion and quality get replaced with bigger businesses and turn into commercialized garbage! Rest in peace Roquette 2024. read more
