Mediocre food & overpriced but I will say they have made an improvement on the food since they 1st opened.

Never, ever again! Our experience on June 14, 2012 was a train wreck! We ordered drinks, appetizers, salad and our entrees. Waitress brought the rolls first. No dishes even after we repeatedly asked while she was bringing drinks that did not match our drink orders. Appetizers were brought out with the salads and entrees. We were appalled. Our table was stacked up with food all at one time. But lacking most of the side orders. At that time, some of our drink orders had not been fulfilled. If you want to receive horrible service, including from the restaurant owners, this is the place for you! Check out the other reviews and you will notice that this is not an isolated incident. In fact, we were there in May, 2012 when the restaurant was virtually empty and received terrible service. My first time here and I will definitely be returning. Our server Alyson was excellent . She was warm and friendly and very attentive. We started off with the scorpion tails which were delicious . Just had two bites of one of the most tasteless steaks I can recall. Ordered the chili app and it came with cheese and onions ( not authentic Texas chili by the way). Tried to get servers attention to get another chili, even asked another server to track her down. Never came. Showed up with entree. Steak looked to be properly cooked but was absolutely tasteless. Sides of queso corn and fried okra were meh. Queso corn was industrial cheese sauce over canned corn. The okra was frozen, pre-breaded and equally tasteless. When server returned to ask how it was. I responded, "Not very good, check please. " I kind of expected a visit from the manager as it was obvious I only had a couple of bites of the steak and sides. Well, that didn't happen. new To the area we went by to see they bar For a couple drinks. The bar is looked nice. We ordered two drinks each. they were so worried about no pouring too much alcohol that the drinks were huge disappointments. The main issue is you want to change highball prices that you would pay in an upper scale restaurant for VERY weak drinks. 2 weak drinks each With tip $48.00! When i walked into the establishment, i was about to turn around when i heard Taylor Swift playing hail satan but my husband insisted we give it a shot. When i received my steak and seasonal veggies, let me tell you, the lack of seasoning was absolutely outrageous and unacceptable. the only good thing about this restaurant was the server, cause he really do be serving, so if there's room in the budget, buy seasoning and give a raise to the server who raised the roof that night for me and my husband, what a god sent. read more

Went here for the first time tonight. It was miserably hot inside to the point that my kids were even sweating. The food was hit or miss. One of my boys got the chicken tenders. They were piping hot and made with real chicken. My other son got the grilled cheese. It was made on a hamburger bun. I got the steak. It was slightly over cooked and over priced for the size. The vegetables were dry and the baked potato was also dry. My wife got the shrimp sampler. It wasn't great, the shrimp were all over-cooked. The cocktail sauce tasted like straight tomato paste. One of the worst experiences! Will never go back. This steakhouse has only 3 steak options on their main menu, plus 2 more on an add-on paper menu. I ordered the 10-oz ribeye, medium rare. and it was only about 1/3 inch thick, and was over cooked. Two others in my party ordered the same thing, but their steaks looked very different. The sodas were flat. The vegetables were served cold. The wait staff never checked to see if our meal was satisfactory, if anyone wanted anything else, didn't even ask if anyone wanted to order dessert. (Out waitress even lied to one of our group, saying she had asked for dessert orders. Went in a party of 12 people, but 6 couples - thus 6 different checks. Was charged an automatic 20% tip (usually reserved for large parties). One member of my group complained about the tip, and demanded it be removed. The manager refused, wouldn't comp anything, and said he'd call the owner (who wasn't there). We ended up waiting for the owner to come in. The bathroom floors were both wet and very slippery. One member of our party is handicapped, and his crutches kept slipping on the bathroom floor. He couldn't even lean them against the wall without them falling, and he couldn't lean down to pick them up. This is a safety hazard. Went to dinner here on our way home from La toretta. Honestly couldn't find anywhere else to go and there it was up on the hill so why not? Glad we went there. We were starving so started off with queso with steak and then entree was the sirloin steak, with sweet potato fries and salad. Everything was Amazing! Rolls were deelish too. I got to be honest, the 2.5 stars really worried me, but after reading some recent reviews, we went in. We got there about 4pm on a Sunday, the outside was nicely done, and well kept up. Parking lot was clean. Opening the Door we were quickly greeted by the hostess and we were given the choice of a table or Booth. After sitting at the booth, the Waitress showed up quickly, introduced herself and ask about beverages. We asked about some of her favorites, she pointed out the Ransom''s Barnyard Salad, & the Grilled Yardbird Vaquero. And of course the Steaks. I noticed they had Chicken Fried Chicken Steak with the white gravy, which is what I choose, it came with 2 sides, I also asked for a cup of the Ransom's Homemade Baked Potato Soup, Which was very good. I would buy that stuff at the store. The wife had the Ransom''s Barnyard Salad, the Steak was sirloin, and boy was it tender. We had the Ice tea, and they refilled them often and way before they were empty. We will be back for the Ribeyes and drinks. If I can figure out how to post pictures I will. Service was great, food was great, atmosphere was great, I'll be bringing the Neighbors back here for our weekly dinner outing. It's probably 45 min from my home. We went there last night with a group of twenty. The service was impossible. They have an attitude and did not want our business and basically said so. They are getting their 20% tip and do not care. One of our group never got his meal. I asked for utensils after being served. Ten minutes later I got up a took utensils from another table. We never received bread. And on and on. My husband and I have been 3 yrs in a row during our anniversary/mudbug fest and we loved it. So much that we bragged to my parents about it. My parents made the drive at 2pm for a late lunch/ early dinner and we're severely disappointed. They weren't acknowledged after 20 mins of being seated and my father going up to the hostess to ask if they were open. They were finally given menus and when asked what steaks they offered they were told they had one steak in the whole place left. I was so confused because everything they experienced was something so out of character from what we had. Thinking it had to be a misunderstanding I called and asked if they had their full menu back since a month ago they were out of everything that had steak in it. She said no they were still out. I hate to do this because Ransom's is better than ever. They have great food and their servers are all about pleasing the customer. But tonite I felt slighted and I wanted to write about it. My wife had the Yardbird Vaquero, which she has had numerous times. This time, the portion was absurdly small, like less than 1/3 of the plate was covered. It was the smallest chicken breast in the world. And its not like my wife needs a huge portion, she is an average eater. She quietly accepted it. When I brought this to the server's attention she went to speak to the manager. She promptly came back and said that the portion size all depends on the chicken breast. That was that - like it or not. To me, this was a BS answer. I get that chicken breasts are not all the same size. But I would think there would be some kind of portion size "standard" that should be followed. If there are, the the cook either did not pay attention or didn't care. And to me, neither did the manager. She never even came to the table, although she was standing 10 ft away. When you pay $14 for a chicken breast you expect it to be adult sized. read more

The service was great and the food was good. We ordered our steaks medium rare though and they came out much more rare. It was rare enough that I wasn't able to finish it. In hindsight, I should have sent it back the second I realized it was undercooked but oh well. Like I said, the service was great and all the sides were great, the steak was just not cooked to the right place. Loved my mahi mahi special...except for the size. I think it was 1 inch by 4 inches. That was it on the plate. I should have stuck with the Buffalo burger or the ranchero chicken. Diners Beware! This is my third visit to Ransome's and after my experience tonight, I wished I could give this place negative stars. After being seated and our drink order taken, the host asked to move us to another table in the bar for what reason we were not sure . When we moved clear accross the dining Room the host found no tables available in the bar area so we were seated at the bar. So much for a relaxing meal. The bartenders were too busy and would not make eye contact with us, as in maybe if they ignored us we would leave? Great Idea considering how hungry we were . We noticed the staff consisted of a few kids -the place is being run by untrained kids, without proper managerial supervision and understaffed at that. Finally after an extremely long wait, bartender inquired if we needed anything . Our previous waitress had brought us an iced tea. The bartender proved useless (she was more interested in telling us no one advised her we were there) we got up and headed out. At the door we requested a manager, another clueless useless employee. She couldn't fathom why we were Angered by her suggestion to seat us at yet another table very near to the original Seat we had originally vacated as per the host when we came in to dine tonite in the first place . In short? Don't waste the gas or your money unless you want to not be served . BTW Our second visit , the waitress joked about dropping her tray which she actually did .Dinner was in my husbands lap. Great food! The Corral appetizer with mayhaw jelly was tasty. My husbands first experience with mayhaw... Thought he was going to drink it! The bacon wrapped steak was cooked perfectly. He has the shrimp sampler and had no complaints. I was debating with the chicken fried steak or fish until the waitress showed me how big the CFS was. Fish was cooked perfectly. My husband and I and our kids have been going to ransom's for two years now pretty regularly two to three times a month we have dinner or lunch here . Tonight was the worse experience we have ever had I ordered steak bites for my 8 year old son thinking they would be regular steak cut in pieces " like Texas road house offers "The waitress brought out there version of steak bites which are more like a chicken fried steak cut into pieces. When she placed the food on the table I let her know this is not what we had in mind . She just looked at us and I told my son just go ahead and try one piece I could see he was having trouble chewing the one piece . So told her that he was not going to be able to eat them . I asked her if we could swap it out with the kids regular steak that way I could cut it smaller for him and he would be able eat . She took it to the back and came back and told me she put the Oder in for the kids steak and then asked if I wanted her to box up the chicken fried steak bites an take them home because they are not allowed to remove them from our bill . When I heard this I was completely shocked !! My son Could not eat the rubbery chewy bites there brought out he could have chocked I spoke with another waiter and was informed there manger has to approve it to be removed and she refused to remove them saying it's not there problem we don't like them we still have to pay for them . The manager never came out to even talk to us during the meal to check on us or to even talk to us about the problem. I had to ask the waitress at the end if she could get the manager . She went to get her and the manager did not come out until after we paid for our bill including the chicken fried steak bites my son could not eat . By the time she did come out of the back I was done waiting and on my way out of the restaurant. I was completely over the whole situation and will never go back . Mind you this is a place we would go regularly some times we would even bring our family from out of town here . We have gone here several times in the past two years where a lot of the waitress new us as pretty regular. I'm still in complete shock and disappointment over the way it was handled . It's not about the money honestly the bill was 100$ 20$ of that for my son to eat is not going to hurt me . Since coming under new ownership and working out all of the usual hiccups that are incurred when running a restaurant for your first time or even opening a new one period, the place is running great! The new menu items are delicious especially the buffalo bites and buffalo chicken tenders! The Nachos are definitely enough for two people and very unique as it is drizzled with their homemade cilantro ranch! The staff is almost always friendly and attentive. As with many restaurants there are good days and bad. Coming from a family that owns a very successful restaurant in The Woodlands and recently opening a new location, I highly recommend not not taking the advice of someone who has only visited once and says they will not go back. You can not base a restaurant on one meal, one visit. To do so is silly. Just as when you meet someone for the first time, they may be having an off day and you may be already moody to begin with. I strongly urge everyone to give it a second shot if they had a bad experience! Also keep in mind that any of the reviews prior to 2012 were when they restaurant was under previous ownership. Absolutely my favorite steakhouse now!! The ambience is family-friendly and very inviting. My husband ordered medium rare and I ordered medium... both of our steaks were cooked to perfection and we didn't need any extra seasoning whatsoever. I usually don't eat fried okra because it's either overcooked or overseasoned but this place got it perfect! Montgomery is definitely blessed to have such a great chef in thier back yard. read more
