After a year of anticipation (when we were in NY last year, the restaurant was closed for maintenance/remodeling), we were so disappointed with the quality of the food. Everything we ordered (Mango Salad, Mee Goreng, and Basil Fried Rice) was so sweet and have no taste. How can you mess up with such simple dishes? The mango salad was filled with iceberg lettuce and big chunks of pineapples and cucumbers to look like there were a lot of mangos. I also asked the server why the fried rice was especially sweet. She said it was because of the special sauce that they used and I should have ordered spicy instead. We asked them to remake it spicy and it still came out sweet. Very disappointed that Rasa did not serve authentic Malaysian food. At least my wife's hot milk tea and the service were good, so I gave them two stars for that. read more

The food was delicious, I got the drunken noodles. The roti is also super yum and I recommend getting that as a starter. The service was a little slow but they were busy. The drinks are good, but not the best cocktails you'll get in the city. Overall a nice experience! read more

This is some good Asian food. I ordered the pad see ew with shrimp. Lunch portion is small, I was left wanting more due to the deliciousness but also size of the serving. Would have been nice to be able to order a few spring rolls, but one order is $8. It was the best pad see ew I've ever had, and I order it at every Thai restaurant I go to. They also have a good happy hour. Im excited to go back to try their other items but will be prepared to spend extra moolah, the quality of the food is worth it. read more

This place is absolutely one of the best Thai/Malaysian restaurants in NYC! The food never disappoints. The drunken noodles with shrimp is my fav thing on the menu. The roti canai is unmatched. Even the coffee with condensed milk is delicious! Every time I go to this restaurant it's like experiencing it for the first time & just falling in love with the food all over again. Went to this place because of a suggestion. Service was normal and food was good. Nothing extraordinary with service. Things went south when it was time to pay. We asked for the bill but it was taking too long to be given to us so instead my husband went up to the counter to pay for it. Lady who was at the counter asked him which suggested percent to tip and she was about to check it off herself. My husband said that he would do it himself. He tipped $20 for a $128 bill for 4 people which was fair. Apparently that wasn't good enough for the lady at the counter because she said that the minimum percent to tip was 18% so my husband became upset and said that's not how tipping works, we tip according to our satisfaction. He decided to cross off his tip because he got upset at the lady's request for the minimum of 18%. Lady then started to say "oh no no that's fine" but my husband was already upset at her request for a higher tip. We then walk out of the restaurant and the manager follows my husband asking for what happened. My husband then explained to him that the lady was asking for a higher tip and that it doesn't work that way, he knows because he worked as a kitchen manager. The man then said they aren't after the tip that they don't want our tip but decides to ask him where he's from and my husband said California so then he has the audacity to laugh sarcastically and says oh ok that's why. We decided to walk away but this rude manager tries to comment one more time and says "you're from the Philippines right" then he laughs again then says "ok ok you go you don't tip anyways" which left us stunned but we decided to keep walking away anyways. This has never happened to us that a small casual restaurant like this would force us to give a specific tip. It wasn't even a fancy type of restaurant. Will never go back or suggest this place due to that lady in the counter and especially the rude manager who not only offended us but was racist towards us. read more

This place has great Malaysian food and the service is really good - everyone's so friendly and warm! I got the curry puffs - super unique, flavorful and mildly spicy. It was my first time trying it out and I loved it - would recommend this! For the main course, I got the Maggi Mee Goreng, and I totally loved it!! It was very filling, and the noodles were perfectly sticky and separated at the same time. It wasn't spicy at all and had a very generous amount of vegetables with it - each full of flavor. read more

We decided to the Village for something different. Yelp had this place at #9 with 2 $$. Thought this would be pleasing to a 14 year old. He had the Pad Thai with chicken. Nothing special. I wanted a noodle bowl and went for the Sarawak Laksa. Vey good. Not overly spicy. Full of flavor. I would have like 1-2 more shrimp and bok choy. Thin rice noodles. Perfect for a chilly night. Place was crowded but tables turn over quickly. I recommend but would suggest looking at the pics first to ge a better idea. read more

5 of us, Malaysians gathered here to fix our Malaysia food cravings. We had Satay, Char Kueh Teow, Steamed Hainanese Chicken, Hokkien Mee, salted Chicken and wan tan Ho. I'm surprised to see they have salted chicken, which it's rare to see in any Southeast Asian restaurants. (Maybe I might overlooked in the past.) My favorite were the satay and salted chicken. Salted chicken is good enough to fix the craving. It would be great with the curry leave like what we can get back in Malaysia. The thing that I'm not happy is they included 18% tip in our total receipt, which they shouldn't. This is illegal to do in NYC. I hope the business owner should take down from the POS system. Customers always tend to pay the tips twice if they dint notice and read the receipt carefully. read more

I've never had Malaysian food but the online menu looked good. 4 of us went on a groupon (2 appetizers, 4 dinners, & 4 drinks). I got a great tofu & veggies dish - massaman. & coconut rice. Delicious! My husband had the Nasi Campur with fish which he liked. Everyone liked their food, & the service was excellent. read more

The other day I tried Malaysian food for the first time. My friend was born and raised there so when he said this is his favorite Malaysian place in NYC, I had to try it. This place looks sleek and clean. Service is cordial and brisk! My server was accommodating when I said I only had a few minutes to have a quick lunch. And more accommodating when I requested to exchange the focus for more vegetables in my vegetable green curry dish. So far, I like this restaurant. I need to try it again to get a better evaluation for it's food. So far so good! read more

Was craving some Malaysian so I ordered nasi lemak. Disappointing. For $25 I got a rather small plate of curry chicken, bright green coconut rice (with no coconut flavor), a tablespoon of peanuts and dried anchovies. About an inch of sliced cucumber and the usual condiments. That's about all I remember. I've eaten here before but don't remember it being such a let down! read more

Have been craving for Nasi Lemak so finally came here on a rainy Saturday. There aren't many good Malaysian places in the city but was very glad to find this one. Our food came out extremely fast (like extremely) and my nasi lemak looked glorious - coconut rice, fried anchovies, sambal. They gave me a lot of curry chicken (ended up having some leftover) so it was definitely worth the money. I'd recommend tasting the rice on its own first to get the full coconut flavor. My friend ordered Tom Yum noodle soup with fish balls and wonton. It smelled so good and she devoured it. My first time dining here. I really wanted to find another Malaysian/Singaporean spot in NYC. I had the Laksa and was a little disappointed. The curry was not bad but was not Laksa curry. It lacked the sour and fishy flavor in traditional Laksa. The vermicelli noodles was also over cooked and too soggy. The dish was too expensive around $14 for what it is. The portion was also small and lacked quality toppings. I was still hungry after eating. Rasa is not authentic Malaysian or Singaporean. I feel that it's mainly Thai food and they make other things to fill up the menu and attract customers. I didn't try the Thai food but maybe it's better? They also serve sushi which I find it to be very odd if they want to specialize in Southeast Asian cuisine. On the bright side, the service was good. We were seated at the bar before our table was ready. The servers were also very attentive. This place is just not my cup of tea. read more

Whoa! My tastebuds tried some other Malaysian dishes that I haven't had before. This place was recommended by 2 Malaysian friends. I tried the char keow tew noodle dish (which was okay..quite reminiscent of chow fun). We got a laksa dish with anchovies and fresh pineapple. This was not at all pungent as it sounds. It was my favorite of the night. The other dish was okra and shrimp but the flavors were new to me but it didn't draw me in. The roti cannai was only ok but I may try something next time. I would be open to going again and trying the beef rendang too. 3 dishes and 1 app was too much for 2 girls so there were some yummy leftovers for the next day. read more

I ordered Char kueh toew with veggies and tofu please and it was over $18 which is a lot for Thai food even in Manhattan. The noodles are burnt and dry which I have never experienced until now. The veggies aren't cooked well :( I've been to Thailand. read more

Couldn't find the option to make a reservation on their website or anywhere. But when I arrived at 6pm on a weekday I was able to grab a table before it got packed. Our party chose to order family style which is probably the better option. Food was good, full of flavor and nice and simple. For the price point and food, definitely a place worth checking out!! read more

AMAZING FOOD!!!! Heard great things about this place before but tried it for the first time today and it was incredible. Being born in Singapore of Malay descent, having travelled to Malaysia frequently... this place doesn't have the 'wow' factor. Mediocre at best, it is lacking the authenticity of what 'Malaysian' food should taste like from the Char Kuey Teow to Nasi ayam (Hainanese chicken rice), beef rendang, and their desserts (Chendol and Ice Kacang), I grew up LOVING LOVING ice kacang and when it came out, it looked NOTHING like the original and the saddest part is, it didn't taste anything like it should be and to top it off, it was $8! Ugh! Same goes with the Chendol! So disappointing! I will not come again and waste my money. ps: it is HALAL, in case anyone of you reading this review needs this info. read more

Rasa is a melting pot of Asian cuisine in NYC. There is the taste of Malaysia, Japan, Thailand India, Singapore, China and Indonesia. Everything I ordered was surprisingly delicious- Crispy Vegetable Spring Roll, Kampong Fried Rice, Curry Chicken with Potatoes, and Thai Chili Shrimp. The restaurant has so much to offer- took me awhile to choose from the large menu because almost everything sounds good to try out! While there is bar service, everything else on the menu is halal, according to the friendly waiters. The restaurant is very popular and therefore, may often be busy (yes, even on a Sunday) but the service is amazing. I like the interior decor with the nets and art pieces expressing the culture, under the dimmed lighting. Nice ambiance! If anything, hope to visit there again soon! read more

Definitely not what I'm used to but I totally appreciate the difference in ingredients. It tasted homemade and I liked it but not enough to crave it. Great service, fast and they are attentive even though they were a full house. Everything tasted fresh and it was a nice experience. We made reservations just in case we needed it but we were early and they allowed us to be seated at the bar and then promptly seat on time (there wasn't anything available when we arrived). read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. You can get roti canai at many restaurants but never as delicious as this one. My favorite dish is the rendang beef. You can't go wrong with that. Well spiced, melt in your mouth beef served with rice. I like to end my meals with this dessert that I cannot pronounce so I will just add the photo. The Thai iced tea is great too. The service is always great! read more

I've been back here several times having various dishes. The service is always wonderful and the food is delicious. Various dishes I have had: Roti Canai, Char Kueh Teow, Mee Hoon Goreng, Yong Tau Foo Curry Mee, Penang Assam Laksa, Chili Crab With Fried Mantou, Pulut Inti, Fish Cakes, Singapore Crispy Squid, and various other freebees since I've been there too much. Always excellent, one of my favorites in the city easily. read more

Very comforting. Overall, I would definitely come back here and receiving great service on top of the great tasting food was all I could have asked for.

Great little Malaysian place! We made a last minute reservation on a Saturday night and we were glad we chose this restaurant. The food was good throughout, the drinks strong and the service excellent. For appetizers we got the roti canai, Malaysian wings and curry puffs which were all delicious. For the main course we decided to follow other yelpers' advice and got the Nasi Lemak, which was a great choice! Every element on the plate from the coconut rice to the shrimp peanut relish was amazing and they all complemented each other wonderfully. The Mee Goreng was solid. We also got the Assam Laksa which was packed with flavor but was a little too tangy and spicy for some of us. The service was attentive and friendly. Ambience was good too and cocktails were tasty and strong. Good lychee mojito that wasn't overwhelmingly syrupy like at some other places. They are so quick with the service as well. There are sometimes where it's a little slower due to the lot of customers but it's much quicker than any place I've been too. if youre in the area just give it a try for yourself trust me.
