I've been here a few times now, and we've always had decent food and service. Island Boy's favorite "burger" is the Ahi Tuna Burger, but I prefer a juicy slab of beef when I visit Red Cow. They have a moderate-sized list of gourmet burgers, but unfortunately for me, my favorite creation here (the Bahn Mi Burger) isn't on the regular menu. It's an Asian-infused 60/40 beef patty with pickled veggies, sriracha aioli & fresh cilantro on a grilled baguette--everything about it is perfect! I first discovered it in early September, and it was so delicious that I had to visit again twice in 2 weeks to experience the amazingness before it disappeared!! They post their monthly features on their website, so if I ever learn it's back, I'll fly there faster than McRib lovers flock to McDonald's! The Beer Battered Wisconsin Cheese Curds are pretty tasty too (not the best in the Twin Cities though), and the triple berry ketchup complements them well. I've never actually ordered them because I know my burger will more than fill me up, but we got to try them one night when the manager was handing out free samples at the bar. Score! They have a fairly decent variety of wines and an even better craft beer selection (36 taps, many local, plus some rare/hard-to-find brews), so there's usually no problem finding something to quench our thirst! We'd visit more often, but... -They don't take reservations, so it can make for a pretty hefty wait...especially on Friday + Saturday nights. They don't make exceptions for large groups either, but the hosts "still appreciate a heads up". Well, my group and I would appreciate not having to wait 90 mins at 7pm on a Tuesday night {seriously}. -Even though they have a patio, they don't allow dogs. :( read more

Great first impression, the waitress caught my sunglass as they were falling from the table, new glasses to boot. Well the room also caught my eye, the décor and the beer list. I thought they would have a longer list of burgers for a place that lists itself as a burger place but I liked the menu over-all. My daughter ordered the kids cheese burger sliders which I must say even though they were from the kids menu I was disappointed in. I took a bite and could only think "wow, that's dry and pretty bland". I know its the kids menu but that was my impression of the burgers and why shouldn't it be? I had the pastrami hash which was very good. The Rye bread with it was great and it wasn't some enormous serving which I appreciate. I want good food, I don't need a trough of subpar but a serving of yum is better! I will definitely come back sometime when I can explore the beer menu and have a burger and I look forward to it. I went here on a Tuesday night with my friend and it was so busy, it felt like an eternity before we were finally seated. However, service was good :) At the time that I went, I had gone specifically for the special of the week: the Kimchi Burger. I saw a picture of it posted on Instagram and I was dying to try it myself. My friend and I also ordered the Ahi Tuna Crisps to share and I opted for parmesan fries instead of regular fries for my side. Everything was delicious! I basically inhaled my burger (but this might have been due to how hungry I was after waiting so long). The Ahi Tuna Crisps were the best I've ever had, it basically melted in my mouth! It's a Saturday afternoon around 4:15. We are meeting my daughter and her boyfriend for early dinner. We tried a few weeks ago at 4:30 and it was a 45 minute wait. This time we did the Yelp waitlist hoping it would be quicker. The waitlist won't work until you are 10 miles in range and then you still have to go inside and check in. That's when the wait order started so it was still a 40 minute wait. Our server Isabelle was great and informative and promoted their food and drinks nicely. Our daughter and her boyfriend had Crown Royal shots so can't ruin them! My husband had a NA drink and then got their homemade ginger beer. It was awesome and had a zing! We then ordered the 60/40 burger my husband loves med rare and it was made as ordered. He loved it but a little rare for me. We also share Ahi Tuni crisps. They were delicious! The truffle fries we an additional charge and they were tasty as well. My daughter and her beau split a well done burger and loved it. They also upgraded to Mac n cheese. I think I was the last person out of all of my friends to make it to the Red Cow. My roommate and I finally made it on a Saturday evening, just in time for the end of Happy Hour. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting. There are a ton of craft beer taps to chose from. Food: +Cheese Curds with Triple Berry Ketchup: One of my top 5 all time best cheese curds. They were crispy, full of cheese and it was lightly breaded on the outside. Exactly the way I like them. +Local Grass Fed French Onion Burger: This was awesome. The quality of the meat was awesome! I loved the chive sour cream that came on the burger. The homemade potato chips added an extra crunch. +Cubano: This was good. The only thing I thought it lacked was mustard. I could barely taste it. I also got a side of sriracha aioli & the dragon aioli. The dragon aioli is a little spicier than the sriracha aioli but both were amazing. I recommend getting them for for your fries. Service: Our server was very nice. It was very, very busy (45 minute wait) and the restaurant was packed but he was very attentive and always kept our drinks full! Always a great stop for burgers and don't over look the apps! Ahi Crisps and Cheese Curds are amazing. Really, you can't go wrong with any of the burgers but some favorites are the Double Barrel (gold star), Barcelona, Cowboy and Manhattan. The one down side about having a great menu is they are always busy. Be prepared to wait if you are going around a meal time, but it's worth the wait. read more

We came to Red Cow for a late lunch/early dinner and were not disappointed! The server (Katie) was extremely friendly, and gave us good tips about both the food and places to drink around Minneapolis on our trip. We shared the scotch eggs as a starter (who cares about cholesterol, amiright?) and then for entrees we had the tuna burger and the double-barrel burger. We both definitely enjoyed our meals, along with the drinks. I tried the really weird nitro coffee + gin + tonic + bitters drink, which was unlike anything I'd ever had. I like the Red Cow. The parking lot is small as noted, but there is free street parking on the side streets (I'm sure the neighbors hate that). The inside is big and well appointed. They have sports on TV, a great tap beer list (wines were a bit limited or pricey). The bartenders were super conversational and I like the way the bar is constructed, has a sort of runway that expands "bar space" I had the ultimate burger with 40% pork belly - decadent (an upgrade for $1 more - story of my life). Bypass the fries for the crisply fresh cole slaw.. Try the home made ketchup - pretty tasty. Small penalty for upcharging for sweet potato fries. The poutine wasn't fair - I have had better poutine at State Fair and Vincent - here they are thick cut potato fries with cheddar and we added the short rib meat. I think it's because it was light on gravy, which makes those standout. Overall a good answer in Minneapolis to the burgeoning bar scene at France and 50th. read more

We stumbled upon Red Cow on one of our frequent visits to Minneapolis. We're always on the prowl for some good food.......especially burger joints. So, we checked out Yelp and found that Red Cow had pretty good reviews. We went for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded, so we were seated immediately in a booth near the window. Our server was very efficient and knowledgable about the menu items, which is something I've come to appreciate!! To start off, we ordered cheese curds. They came out hot and fast, but were a little greasier than we would like, so we really didn't get a chance to enjoy them. I'm sure this was probably just a bad batch or a fluke. For entrees, I ordered the Manhattan burger, my husband had the Bison burger. Our boys had fish & chips and a grilled cheese. My husband and I are self-proclaimed burger connoisseurs, so we'll usually order 2 different burgers for us to share. So, we loved the bison burger. It was cooked as we requested and very flavorful. The goat cheese and caramelized onions are a great combination for this burger. We weren't as satisfied with the Manhattan burger. This bacon cheeseburger is priced higher than the rest, because they use a high end Angus beef from New York. We could definitely tell that the beef is a very high quality beef, but the burger lacked flavor in general. The toppings were a good combination and it was cooked as we requested. I don't know if it was the seasoning or lack of seasoning. To us, it just wasn't worth the up charge. The fish & chips and grilled cheese were awesome and the fires are some of the best fries I've tasted. We love fresh cut fries and I love how Red Cow's fries are a little thicker than most. Anyway, Red Cow is the first burger spot in Minneapolis that we know we will definitely revisit on our next trip. read more

So following my first visit I reviewed the Barcelona Burger which I really enjoyed. Look below for my review and through the images for my picture. This update to my original review is to go over the breakfast I had during my second visit. I had the Buttermilk Blue pancakes which was good and my friend had the Cowhands Breakfast which was also good. Buttermilk Blue- yummy pancakes with blueberry sauce, sweet cream and crushed almond cookie. Unfortunately they are "not able" to do any fruit substitutions so I got the sauce on the side so I could control how much of it I got with each bite. The sauce was actually good.... had whole (tiny) blueberries. Looking back I realized these pancakes should have come with sweet cream, which I totally forgot about and apparently so did my server and the cook. Not sure if it would have made the pancakes that much better, but I can tell you that the crushed cookie sprinkled on top was barely noticeable. They probably used only 1.5 tablespoon, which did nothing to add flavor or texture. Surprisingly, syrup and butter were not automatically provided with these pancakes, therefore I had to put in a special request (no charge). With all that said, these pancakes alone were really good and the extras weren't really needed. Cowhands Breakfast - This was really good. I only had a sample of it given it was my friends meal. I took a picture of it, but in retrospect don't think it came out that well so I'll do my best to describe it. It was a layer hash browns (the shredded potato type), with fluffily folded egg on top (they can't accommodate egg whites only), caramlized onions and lots of cheese. With the small bite I had, I definitely enjoyed it and think I'll be trying this one at home. With this place being so close to Edina Grill, my favorite place for breakfast, I now feel conflicted on where I should go for breakfast. Holy cow (see what I did there), you have to try the 60/40 Burger. 60% cow and 40% bacon. Never has cow and pig tasted so good together. Super juicy and every bite was a party in my mouth. The cheese curds are a must try too. Whichever state created them (WI or MN) you get a high five. But Red Cow's come with a homemade triple berry ketchup that high fives your uvula as it slides down your throat. Tons of other burgers and sandwiches along salads to try. I'll have to visit again when I'm in MN and grab try another one of their award winning burgers. read more

We came at 3 PM for happy hour (goes til 6 PM). Lots of parking and immediate seating! The hosts were talkative, friendly, and welcoming. Our waiter Drew was fantastic! Water came immediately and drinks right after. Started with ahi crisps - seared tuna on crisps with avocado, ponzu, smoked pepper aioli- delicious and fresh! I met co-workers here for happy hour and really enjoyed the food and service. I was able to try the bacon popcorn, Japanese sticky wings, onion rings, poutine and the cheese curds. Of all of it, the bacon popcorn was unique, though not much bacon flavor comes through. Those wings were very good and I will be back for more. The cheese curds were what you would expect but they come with a divine berry compote vs ketchup- A+. That poutine was out of this world and unique in that it wasn't bland and there were competing textures with the apples, loved it. BEWARE I did get ticketed because there is very little parking, so my happy hour was uber expensive. The little warning sign was at the end of the street and I just didn't notice. read more

OK I will admit, I don't frequent S. Mpls often. It's so odd to see these old buildings fitted with new posh stores. This Red Cow looks like it's in a strip mall setting! I only came to this location for take out so I'll keep it brief! I had the turkey burger since I've heard such good things about it, along with fresh fruit for the side because I'm trying to keep it light yo. The burger was excellent. Pistachios on a burger?! I've never heard of such a thing, but it works. I am kinda sad that they don't have a regular salad as a side, unless I want to pay $2 extra, so I went with the fruit cup. It was your standard melon/grape/pineapple/strawberry concoction, but it tasted fresh. The decor in this one is a little different than the North Loop location. Less red leather and booths and more open tables. I can see parking being a nightmare here during the dinner rush, but fortunately I was able to grab a spot right around the corner. We ordered the manhattan burger, pork belly sliders, and beef and cheese poutine fries. The manhattan burger was amazing. It was the perfect mix of savory and sweet (from the cranberries). After my first visit here and not being able to get in I received an email from the owner and he was able to get us in last night. It was the VIP treatment. Can't applaud enough at how great the service was. The manager came over and also introduced himself. We started with the Carmel bacon puff corn. Delicious and very decent portion and price. I ordered the Royal medium rare. It was cooked perfectly! very good burger. It had a tomato Jam which I wish there had been more of on the burger. This burger would also have gone super well with a Jalapeno Jelly if they had it. Brian got the Manhattan and I tried a bite and honestly it was one of the best burgers I've ever tasted. If you like a little sweetness to your food this is the burger for you. AMAZING! He also got the sweet potato fries (were great) that came with a different sauce that was just okay. Better with just ketchup. Our friends got the Elk Wellington (which looked amazing) and the Turkey burger which she said was okay. They even carry a beer flight option so that we can try many of the beer they carry. Limited menu and we ordered scotch eggs for appetizer. It was your standard scotch eggs nothing great. We ordered ultimate and turkey burger. Both the patties were really good , but I did not like the combination they came out with. Little dry burger with no sauce on both of them. I didnt find any thing special about the burgers. But if you are in neighbourhood probably the best option in that area. Chocolate moose for dessert was good. Definitely should mention the service. Reading the reviews, I went in with very high expectations, and the burger alongside with the appetizers didn't let me down. Since I don't drink, that probable why I wasn't very hyped like everyone else. The food: We ordered the Wisconsin cheese curds, and the beef poutine. The cheese curds were just your regular side that can be ordered in any restaurant in the Minnesota, nothing special there. However the triple berry ketchup that came with it was great. The beef poutine was cheesy-licious. The potatoes weren't very soft, and the beef was the cherry on the cake. As for the main dish, I had a Mushroom & Swiss, and as a burgerholic, this one is to die for! The juices from the patty combined with the melted Swiss cheese, and the sautéed mushrooms literally create a rainbow of tastes with every bite. Their sweet potato fries isn't special at all. A couple of my friends ordered the Manhattan, and Barcelona, which the claim to be a bit salty. I was pretty full, but had a bit from the raspberry soufflé and it was decent. Service: The server was attentive but not over and paid close attention, the manager also passes by our table a couple of times and asked how we were doing. This was just perfect. The atmosphere: It is a bit loud in side, and the servers tend to scream in order to know your order. Called for reservations, but they don't offer it! Had to wait 35 minutes before we were seated. My boyfriend and I were fortunate enough to be able to attend The Red Cow's run-through before the grand opening. We absolutely loved it. The atmosphere of the place was very modern and calm. The hostesses, waiting staff, and the managers were all kind and super attentive to their customers. We get there 40 minutes in on the waitlist and I check in to see how much longer id have to wait. 1 hour and 30 minutes. I asked "am I even on the waitlist" and to that the host/hostess responds "I don't know" with another snarky response and proceeds to serve other people, whose estimates seem to be half of what I was estimated at (with similar party sizes). And I get it. It's busy and I am understanding. Everyone has their bad days. But that's not my fault, my family just wanted to have a nice burger to celebrate my birthday. Please don't take it out on us. I do appreciate the waitlist application, it's pretty sweet and convenient! I very rarely do this (because I love food so much), but i'm not sure if I would come back. Always delicious. This was my first time checking out this location, as I always go the the one in St. Paul. Parking was awful, but service was great. I ordered the Ahi tuna burger with the Red Cow salad instead of fries. I've been wanting to try this burger for a while and it did not disappoint! It was better than the turkey burger but about the same as the bison burger. I'm on a mission to try them all some day. This burger was absolute heaven. The wasabi mayo on top was perfectly spicy. I skipped the bun and ate it with a fork and it was amazing. Salad was good too. Dressing was on point. Burgers here are legendary and you will not be disappointed.
