So I came here the other day to meet with a friend, she ordered something recommended by a waitress not thinking much of it. She took one bite and wasn't a fan immediately and she let our waitress know, at first they were adamant about not being able to return said meal. After some convincing (she only took one bite) she was able to get her meal refunded. So after this she happened to leave her card at the establishment by accident, went back and was met with hostility. A direct quote from a worker "nice of you to not tip after returning our most expensive meal" this tip would've contributed to a purchase of $4 orange juice, that she had forgot to sign the day prior. He then followed her outside to berate her and tell her to not come back again. Needless to say without the dis-invitation we will not be back. Maybe hire people who will treat customers with basic respect and decency. Nothing that happened on the day prior should've elicited that kind of reaction. read more

Had a really nice lunch walking distance from the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. Everyone was friendly and the service was timely. The roasted butternut squash spinach salad was well balanced and filling. And they have a nice assortment of teas. We sat in the covered patio that is lush with a succulent garden and enjoyed the breeze. Very nice vibe for a visit in the city. read more

We first attempted to go to the overcrowded (and, in my opinion, overrated and overpriced) Bea Bea's, but after dealing with a long wait ahead and a rude hostess, my sisters and I drove around a bit and then ended up at Red Maple Cafe. I had noticed it a couple months ago and thought it looked cute and had been wanting to give it a try. The service was really good and one of the owners, Brian, even came to our table to say hello and go over the menu with us. You actually order up front and then sit down, and they bring it to you, but we needed a moment to "study" the menu. I was very happy with all of the vegetarian options. Two of us shared the black bean and quinoa sliders and a create-your-own salad (so many wonderful choices to pick from!) Our other sister had a tuna melt and red potato salad. We also had lattes. Everything was delicious! And then...despite being super stuffed from the nice-sized portions...we shared some of their homemade gelato. It was worth every fantastic,creamy calorie! My only disappointment was that I waited this long to walk over here and try this place. Admittedly, I was not sure at first that this was more than just a Gelateria and Cafe, but that's just the front part; along the side, the Red Maple is a lovely little eatery with sandwiches, salads, and bowls - all of which look tasty. I ordered the Chicken Farro Bowl and loved every bite. It was very good and a generous portion. The bowl is full of light farro mixed with cucumber, tomatoes, and feta lightly seasoned with a tasty lemon vinaigrette dressing and topped with a full breast of grilled chicken. I also enjoyed their peach iced tea very much, which is unsweetened and tastes like peaches. We ate outside in their lovely little sidewalk courtyard as it was such a nice day but the seating inside looks amply comfortable as well. I am very glad that this space, which has been empty for five years or so, is finally full with a nice, comfortable restaurant that is not Mexican or small plates or $10 tacos or fast food. I joined their rewards program and plan on adding this place to my regular walkable lunch rotation. read more

I feel like this is one of those places that has a few gimmicky (and genuinely) cool things to offer, but beyond that is just your average food place. The space is very cramped and there are always people walking by you since you order at the counter. An older gentleman that works there was pushing chairs in and walked by my cousin and I while we were seated and bumped into us without acknowledging this. It's LA so I'm used to the lack of attention and let it go. I ordered the green onion waffle sandwich with the wasabi couscous. The sandwich was decent at best. The waffle was dyed green for some reason and that seemed to be the only thing they did with it. I didn't taste green onion, or any other flavor. Why is it dyed green to begin with? Aren't only mint flavored or "green eggs and ham" themed items dyed green? Not a big deal, just one of those moments where the look was focused on more than the flavor. The lime crema was good, but there was hardly any on the sandwich; same with the pickled onions. The brisket also lacked flavor on its own and was not broken apart properly for a sandwich. The extra soft waffle, wet ingredients and heavy chunks of brisket just made for a messy experience. Don't get me wrong, the quality of ingredients was fine, just the presentation and flavor combinations were not happening for me. On the other hand, the wasabi couscous was amazing. I would certainly return just for that. My cousin ordered the breakfast sandwich with the roasted potatoes which she seemed to enjoy. It's possible that I ordered the wrong item, but that's disappointing because my waffle sandwich is listed as a signature item. Overall, too pricey for the portion and the flavors sound better than they tasted. If you're going to call an item your house signature and charge me $15 for it, then it should be amazing, unique, and flavorful.I almost always agree with the Yelp ratings, but in this case, I fail to understand how they have as many stars as they do. My food gets 2 stars given price and portion. The kindness of some of the employees earns them another star for this review. 3 is fair. read more

Wow, was I disappointed. I had originally written a perfect review for this restaurant however we went back a second time last week and ended up spending almost $50.00 for two people and the food was terrible. We ended up not eating almost 90% of what was ordered. The chicken tinga tostadas were not good this time, they were cold, tasteless and the chicken had a heavy taste. We also ordered the chipotle chicken sandwich: chicken was rough and tasteless. We also ordered the smashed avocado and smoked motsarella flatbread...the avocado was not smashed it was blended to a dip and the mozzarella was not smoked...it was simply shredded mozzarella that can be purchased in the packaged cheese isle or from Costco. This dish was also tasteless and not good AT ALL. So disappointed; we thought we had found our new dinner spot. read more

Or what my culinary background is. The fact of the matter is we were short on time, we'd suggested Red Maple to our friends and we were EMBARRASSED at the poor taste of the food and their reaction. They took bites out of their food and didn't look at us in the eyes. You can keep retorting with whatever rhetoric you want--that won't change the blandness of your food and the fact that you put ingredients in dishes that don't belong together and I was literally pissed throughout the day about the bad experience. So ya, one star. Go visit Gindi Thai, Bea Bea's, Aroma Cafe, Sushi Yuzu nearby to retrain your tastebuds as they are clearly failing you. My new favorite spot in Toluca Lake /Burbank. You can tell every dish is made from scratch and to order, even the sauces! A refreshing take on simple dishes and drinks. Totally irritated - my husband & I wanted to go somewhere for a valentines brunch since we both work late hours & we've been eyeing the cafe since we pass by it often. We checked out the menu the night before & decided that was the one for brunch date. Got to the area and spent 20+ minutes driving around looking for parking. Finally my husband dropped me off so he could continue looking for parking & I could order before the 11:30 breakfast cut off. I waited patiently while the couple in front of me ordered breakfast & coffee which took a bit as they were making a decision. Got to the register told the server I would be ordering breakfast (it was 11:31) and that my husband is still looking for parking etc. She immediately said breakfast is no longer being served - I pointed to the couple next to me as they were still paying for their order & she asked management - answer was no they have a cut off & a big order today. I understand policy but given the circumstance definitely not the way to handle it. Disappointed to say the least. read more

This was not my 1st pick for my Sunday lunch but after everything being a ridiculous amount of wait, we decided to give this little place a try. I am so glad we did. I ordered the pork belly chile verde and my partner ordered the brisket burrito. Both items were amazingly delicious. I sampled the coffee/horchata and it was one the best ones I've had. This was our first visit to the Red Maple Cafe and we loved everything about it. The host was very generous and the waiters/waitresses very quick and attentive to the customer's requests. It felt so welcoming and they somehow made the time slow down so we didn't feel rushed to eat and leave. Food was delicious and the tables clean. Cute little cafe with trendy food options and cheery service. I tried the jerk chicken burger and it was good but seemed to be missing a crucial sauce. The outside needs better sun cover to make more of the seats usable on a hot day, the inside on the other hand was so cold that people were moving outside despite the 91 degree day and lack of shade. Parking was also a bit of a challenge with only street parking options. Overall, a decent experience but some improvement needed. read more

What a great find! This cafe certainly doesn't look like anything special but their food was absolutely amazing. I had one of the best pancakes I've ever had in my life. My friend got a short rib breakfast dish that was also delicious. This place is very affordable and low-key. It's a great, easy spot to meet a friend for lunch. It's not 5 stars only because the decor/ambiance could use a little help. The tables and chairs are not comfortable and there were a few flies circling our table. The food makes up for it though. Was in Los Angeles area for business on Saturday and stayed the night and woke up with a crazy hunger. I looked up in yelp for a brunch place and I ended up choosing this place even though it was 8 miles away. Let's just say I'm glad I did, the food was presented beautifully and it was the perfect portion. I had the breakfast quesadilla and my wife who I sneaked along for my business trip had the chorizo, eggs and potatoes. We ate everything up and washed it down with this delicious coffee/Horchata combo called Cochata! When I'm back in town and will definitely come check them out for a sandwich and gelato! The photos make the food a lot better than it is. There were three of us in our party and two out of the three dishes were tasteless and much smaller in portion that the photos. I had the Power Scramble and didn't even finish it because even El Tapatio couldn't redeem the dish. My sourdough toast was a puny piece like you would get in a 99 cents loaf of bread. My camel brownie was also disappointing and barely tasted of chocolate. read more
