This was probably my tenth visit to Red Rocks over the course of the last 5 years, and it's consistently great. I always order the Bogarad's Chopped Salad with Blackened Salmon or Chicken, can't go wrong either way. Service is typically on point. I think they've renovated since I first started coming in- pretty spacious restaurant and nice ambience. What I really love about this spot is the void it fills for the area. I live off Monroe Rd. near the Galleria and while we've got a decent variety of cuisines nearby, Red Rocks provides a slightly more upscale atmosphere without having to drive all the way into Southpark or another neighborhood. I revisited Red Rocks Cafe for a retirement celebration. I reserved a space for a party of 15, and they were very accommodating. Without request, they placed my party in a separate section and reserved tables to display our cake. I won't be to hard because our server was excellent. The issue arose with my receipt. I observed that I had been charged twice for an appetizer. My bill was 92.34. I was overcharged 8 dollars. Instead of refunding me the 8 dollars my debit card was charged another fee of 84.34. total charged for my meal 176.64. I did not realize what had happened until I left the restaurant. I returned approximately 20 minutes later. The first guy I spoke to (bartender) tried to brush me off like we know, I've dealt with it. He tried to handle me in that manner because he was the one who charged my debit card twice. He said, he did the charge for the server. I was very displeased with the fact that he addressed them overcharging me in a nonchalant manner. I asked to see someone over him. Finally, I spoke with the manager for the day. He was kind, but ultimately I ended up being told I had to wait for a refund, even though this was the restaurant's error. I should the my bank account as proof of what I was saying. We came for dinner. I love the fact that there are nice booths to sit at inside. It has a dark cozy atmosphere. Great place for a date. My husband got the lobster ravioli with scallops and shrimp in a cream sauce topped with asparagus. He was really happy with it and said it was a good choice. I got the sesame crusted tuna over risotto with a ginger teriyaki sauce. It was fabulous. The only issue I have is there was not enough risotto in the meal and I had asked for the tuna to be cooked medium, but it was overcooked. It only had enough risotto to pare with one of the 2 tuna steaks provided. I took the second one home and made rice to go with it. Our waitress was pleasant. Really disappointed with the Thanksgiving platter. I can't get home for Thanksgiving because of work, and my parents graciously order me dinner from somewhere and we converse over FaceTime. The place we ordered from last year was unable to accommodate, so we gave this place a try. Boy was that a mistake. The chopped salad had two tomato chunks in it and was overloaded with almonds. Thankfully I had some cucumber in the fridge to add to the three in there. Platter comes with a decent portion of ham and the Turkey looks like they sawed off the end of the breast and called it a day. Overwhelmingly portioned with green beans, which I guess is good if you enjoy them. A cafeteria scoop of stuff and sweet potatoes with a piece of cake for dessert. Doesn't sound bad, but didn't even include bread and barely enough gravy to cover the Turkey. Oh, and did I mention this was $53?! Next year I'll just go to the grocery store and cook everything for that price and have actual leftovers. Perhaps we shouldn't have attempted to go on Fathers Day. We had a reservation. The hostess was less than pleasant when I checked in 5 minutes prior and said "we'll get to you when we can". We opted to wait then went to the bar after about 15 minutes. At 30 minutes after our reservation we checked in again requesting an estimate. The response given by the hostess was "when we get to you". While sitting at the bar I noticed majority of the servers had very long hair that while sort it pulled back most dragged in the food they carried on trays to various tables. We were finally seated about 35-40 minutes after our reservation. I received a text and we reported to the hostess stand however she failed to acknowledge us and almost gave our table away. Our server was great and had only been there two weeks. We waited a bit for food but it was good and honestly we just expected this at this point. We often go to this restaurant so wanted to show some patience since it was so busy. But this was a disappointing experience. read more

And, a handful of my friends really like it. So, here we are. Lunch at Red Rocks. Again. My go-to order is the chicken salad and fruit plate. Their chicken salad is pretty tasty, all white meat. They bill the fruit as seasonal but it has always been the same mix of melon, pineapple, grapes and berries when I get it. On my latest visit, I decided to branch out and try something new. I ordered the blackened chicken club croissant. I should have stuck with my usual. The croissant was soggy, I guess from the juicy chicken, and the bottom disintegrated in my hands at the first bite. In hopes of salvaging the dish, I peeled the croissant off and ate the chicken/cheese/lettuce/tomato/bacon with a knife and fork. While I'll probably lobby to go some place else when the "where should we go for lunch" convo comes up at the office, odds are I'll loose that battle and be back again soon. We celebrated my birthday at the Providence Road location. We had reservations and were seated promptly. Our server was prompt and courteous. We never felt rushed even though they were very busy. Love the food and desserts at Red Rocks. Never had a bad meal here. Only disappointment of the evening was our server kept forgetting drink refills and needed to check in more often. Not sure if being seated on the enclosed heated patio was contributing to this lack of attention or she was forgetful. She did not stop by to do refills and once she forgot altogether to bring the pitcher when she came back so there were times I had an empty glass of water during salad, entree and dessert. The Chopped salad is my favorite yet could have used a tad more dressing on the side. Server didn't check in on us during the course so I wasn't able to ask for more. The she crab soup was okay in flavor. Probably would not order here again. Hands down the best she crab soup in Charlotte belongs to Eddie's Place. The Cajun salmon was delicious and the portion was generous. The broccoli cauliflower was a small portion and bland. Would definitely order this entree again. My friend had the chicken sandwich which comes on a brioche bun and it was a generous portion. He said it was delicious and added more Swiss cheese and mushrooms. This was my first real meal as a Charlotte resident. It was unexpected as I actually went to the wrong location to meet a friend. Lol they went to Huntersville. I was wrong. Apparently this is where staff have their lunch. The entire meal was a parade of servers and hostesses stopping by to loudly chat and make plans and talk about other guests. We decided to dine here for our anniversary and family coming in town and was unfortunately let down by the service, atmosphere and most importantly, flavor or lack thereof. Our server started out on top of everything, very professional, attentive and patient. By the end of our meal, she was not unattentive and lacked urgency. Our food was not hot, warm to say the least and again, lacked flavor. The hostess wasn't friendly by the end of our visit and didn't send us off with any form of gratitude or warm remarks but we for sure overheard it for the group of people shortly behind us. I work in the industry (not mentioning this for any bragging rights or to be a snob but when you know, you know) so I'm very aware of steps of Service across the board. Last but not least, as I mentioned before, we came in to celebrate our anniversary and not one person acknowledged that... and it was on our reservation notes. I visited Red Rocks Cafe for the first time for a bridal shower. We had a room that was secluded and away from the rest of the patrons. Service was outstanding and they were so tactful in letting me know that drinks were not covered by the hostess and taking my order, answering any questions, and slipping in and out without disrupting the shower. I had the crab cake sandwich, and one of my friends had the seafood salad. Her food looked better than mine. I thought I took a picture of the sand which, but I can't find the photos. So I guess not. Ate here Monday night at 4pm with a group of ladies for Queens Fest. I cut restaurants breaks during this week, however I need to comment on a few things. The waiter didn't seem interested in dealing with our table until all parties were there. Took a solid 20 minutes or more to get a bottle of wine. One of the ladies walked to the bar to get a wine glass. At 4pm on a Monday there were just a few other patrons eating. When the food arrived, several people were given the wrong orders, this is important one giving somebody a rare steak and giving somebody else a well done steak. Also several people had cold vegetables. When ordering dessert several of us wanted Carrot Cake and were advised they didn't have any. A couple of us ended up at the bar and I noticed they were taking a dessert tray around to other tables which had Carrot Cake. At the bar we sat there with empty drinks for a few, then pushed the empty glasses towards the bartender, so she would notice them. When she came over she asked if we wanted an other drink and we replied yes. To with she replied "really". I could understand if they were getting slammed the lack of service, but I found it to be unacceptable even for restaurant week. The food was OK. The service was terrible even tip 22% when I felt like tipping zero. The ambience was nice. I don't think any of else would return. I would pass on this restaurant as there are so many other ones that are so good in Charlotte. read more

It's a little tricky locating this place if you've never been before but it's totally worth it! It's behind the Strawberry Hill apartments and you can also reach their parking lot from them in the event you accidentally turn into the apartments. The decor of the place provides a steakhouse feel, but the service was more personal like a local mom and pop shop. The wine list was extensive and was reasonably priced by the glass, but be careful... those prices add up real fast! Our food was well seasoned and spicy where indicated. The menu is larger than most places near the Southpark area so take your time. Not that you'll be rushed but this place has a lot to offer. I recently went with a group of friends and family to Red Rocks Cafe. We learned about as it was on this summer's Restaurant Week list. We were pleased by the ambience, the great service by our server, and it wasn't too crowded. Parking was free and plentiful, and while we ate indoors, there were plenty of tables available for outdoor dining on a rare humidity-free July evening. We were all pleased with our meals--the parmesan potato cakes were really addictive, and the Cajun salmon was a huge hit. Everyone else ordered salads and salmon and was impressed. This place has been around forever, and there is a reason for that - it's a Charlotte classic, and the food is consistently delicious. We loved the homemade chips with blue cheese starter, and I had the Atlantic salmon special as my entree which was delicious. One of my favorite things that they do is bring out the big platter of giant cake slices after you finish your meal, so you really can't resist getting one (or a few) for dessert. In fact, we held a small dress rehearsal dinner here because the varied menu was popular with family members. It's a busy place so call ahead to get on the wait list.
