Every time I dine here, I like the food more. The service isn't bad either. I feel the best dish is the curry vegetables. It's a little spicy and packed with flavor and plenty of veg. The grilled pieces of soft tofu were a nice surprise. The worst part about the restaurant is just outside the front door. I don't know if the smell is from the City or the building, but hold your nose as you enter. read more

Delicious Peking duck!! The skin is very crispy and the pancakes were light and flavorful. We also had the shrimp fried rice which was very good, but maybe overpriced. The duck was really worth it though! The drinks were tasty and interesting. read more

Liked the fact that they can size the portions to the party size - we were 6 of us for dinner and they increased the dumplings to 6 pieces instead of 4 and increased the pricing proportionately. Had to take two stars off due to the totally out of whack pricing! Almost $5 a piece for a soup dumpling?? $32 for the Three Chili Chicken entrée? Unfortunately as good as the food was, there's plenty more options in NYC to justify coming here again. If you do end up going, here is a list of the dishes we ordered which were all really good!! The only things we really liked were Hot and Sour Soup and the vegetable fried rice, which was $27 (!) We had two dumpling dishes, which were't bad, but vastly overpriced at $17 and $21 for four dumplings per dish. The pastrami egg roll was forgettable, and also overpriced at $15.00 for a singular egg roll. We also had mango fried chicken, which was the only decent-sized dish, but the mango pieces were hard and the sweet and sour sauce was way too vinegary. Lastly, we ordered the Chilean Sea Bass & Zucchini special, which was $48 and described by out waiter as "family style," leading to us believe it was a large portion. It was not, it was tiny, with only four tiny medallions of fish. I had to say something about it and we were credited it for half the cost of the dish, but overall I did not appreciate the unconsionable prices and small portions at this restaurant and won't be returning. read more

Just look at the photos. Un-retouched & unappetizing. The food was simply terrible. We started with the duck & crab dumplings, and cold sesame noodles & chicken. Noodles were ok. The chicken...oh come on! Dry? As for the crab & duck dumplings...Where's the duck? The duck flavor was apparently disguised by all things non-duck related. And why did I have to work my way through an over-fried "dumpling" that had a sharp crab claw sticking out of one end? Hallelujah! I found out that the claw contained the crab I was supposed to eat. Apparently this is so I could entertain myself by picking out the crab meat from the shell...using a chop stick. Well, this was the least worst alternative to stabbing a hole my cheek with the lethal claw tip sticking out of the brown whatchamacallit. OK, maybe that one is on me. So bring on the pork belly and the scallion gold coins. Pancakes that is. Nope. No better. In fact it seems like they fried the scallion pancakes in the same oil they previously used on the dumplings. At least there were no crab spears or other sharp objects sticking out of it. These greasy dishes left me with the indelible image of a mechanic loosening the bolt on the bottom of a car engine, and the used oil gushes into the pan. Red Farm came with a ton of great reviews, and that's why we came. But what we were served in no way resembled the accolades it has received in the past. I could not finish the pork belly, and ate only one and a half of the scallion pancakes. I wish they'd put as much effort into their cooking as they did with those fancy computerized seat-heated, water-jetting, air blowing, song-singing, perfume spraying toilet seats they have in the bathroom. Maybe those can whip up some less oily dumplings? Chef is phoning it in...he needs to start dialing the right number again. read more

Wow, Redfarm has really lost its luster. This was my first time back in four years and I was extremely disappointed. We ordered 5 dishes and dessert as a group of four and I have to say the only decent items were the Pac-Man dumplings and the chocolate cake. The crispy beef was average, the spring rolls tasted like frozen supermarket spring rolls, the fried rice was average, and the three spice chicken was also just average. So why 1 star for average food? For starters, the pricing. To charge $4 a dumpling, and nearly $70 for steak is borderline robbery. Secondly, the chicken. We had chicken in both the fried rice and the three spice entree. This was not chicken. The consistency was rubbery and...off. If I was blindfolded and told there were 3 different types of protein in front of me - guinea pig, chicken, and turkey, I would've bet $200 on guinea pig and to my dismay, would have lost it all the same way we lost $200 on this dumpster fire of a meal. The pork buns were horribly sweet, flavorless, not crispy at all and one of the worst I have ever had, I took one bite and was done. The pork and crab soup dumplings were better, which is the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. However the wrapper on the dumplings was too thick and there was not much broth left inside compared to even a mediocre place like din Tai Fung. Overall, this was an excellent experience. We started off with the Pac-Man dumplings and even though all four were different, they were similar in taste. Delicious nonetheless. Included was a sweet potato that was cut out in the shape of a Pac-Man tempura style. Below that was guacamole and we weren't quite sure whether you were supposed to put the guacamole on the sweet potato so we just eat it by itself and it was fresh and very tasty. Coming from California, we should know. Then, we had the filet mignon and the shrimp and scallop fried rice. Both were absolutely excellent. I love all kinds of fried rice and this one ranks right up there. They accidentally lost our ticket in the kitchen, so it took a little longer than probably usual to get our order. They were very apologetic, and we didn't mind at all because we were enjoying being there in that great atmosphere. What we did mind however was them asking about five minutes after the food was delivered if we intended to order dessert or any more drinks because it was "last call". Seems a little strange to be late delivering the meal, and then immediately asking us if we want anything else and sort of rushing us out. But, alas, that didn't affect our opinion of the meal... just enough to write about it :) We will definitely come back again and explore the menu more. read more

I've been writing Yelp! reviews sporadically for many years, and as best as I can recall, I've never used the word 'disaster' in any of them before. But in this case it's apt, because everything that could possibly go wrong with my delivery experience from Red Farm did, in fact, go terribly wrong: 1. The delivery person arrived but without the food. He said he couldn't find the restaurant. I helped him find it and he returned a half hour later. 2. When he arrived the second time, he had food, but the order was wrong: two of seven items were missing outright, and there were two orders of another items when we had only ordered one. 3. The food was terrible: oily/greasy, no flavor, just a big slop of fatty oil 4. When I called the restaurant about all the above, the man said it wasn't their responsibility, that I had to report my problem with the delivery app people. It was a terrible experience overall (and a very expensive one), and I will never, ever order from Red Farm again. read more

We come to NYC every month and always make a visit to Red Farm. The food is excellent, as is the service, and this time we came with a party of seven. At the end of the meal we were treated to an array of desserts because we were seated next to the front door with an occasional blast of cold air. It was a very thoughtful and generous gesture. From the moment I walked in the door until I left, I received excellent customer service. The food was also delicious.

Red farm is a very expensive upper West side trap. Comparable food options are Flor De Mayo, La Caridad, Nueva Victoria. We ate the Katz pastrami egg rolls, scallion pancakes, crab and duck dumplings, chicken fried rice and filet mignon. Before you eat here check the menu for pricing cause it's crazy. I get the gimmick but they fooled me once. The scallion pancakes and the Katz pastrami egg rolls were so oily and over fried. For $14 egg rolls they shouldn't be drowned in oil and burnt. The crab and duck dumplings were ok. Here's where it gets disappointing my chicken fried rice was so basic that it actually upset me. The same plate I spent $28 on for chicken fried rice and a few strips of chicken can be bought at any Chinese takeout for $8.95 it was the same dish. The filet mignon was good. Overall I'll never recommend this place. It's way too pricey for mediocre Chinese food. read more

We loved that there were vegetables in all the dishes. The shrimp pea shoot dumplings were perfect. The lettuce wraps, a generous enough portion for a main. The service friendly and server honored our request to stage the dishes so not all at once. We could've used fresh plates between some of the dishes, but things happened a little fast. The short rib udon noodles was very delish but the pieces of meat were too big for one bite and extracting the bone was awkward; needed a knife and wouldn't recommend for a first date LOL. Cheerful atmosphere albeit informal for a pricey restaurant. We will absolutely be back though it's not a slam dunk five star experience like their former duck place in the west village that had the fire. Next time we will plan on trying the duck. Sorry to be harsh but I was mad when the bill came (when was the last time you left a chinese restaurant without leftovers and spent $300 and still was kinda hungry?) Probably one of the worst meals I've had (especially for the price) I've ever had in NYC. I should've identified a red flag immediately when I saw "pastrami egg rolls" on the menu; something I've definitely seen at Applebees or Chili's before. Keep in mind I'm a Chinese person that lived in Flushing/Chinatown for years and was expecting actual Chinese food. Let's start with dumplings. Charging $15+ (upwards of $21) for 4-5 dumplings that is essentially frozen dim sum you can find in any asian supermarket's frozen section is insane. Pure insanity. The flavor backed my suspicion that these are frozen as the lamb dumplings ($21/4 pieces) were gamy as all hell. Go to Xi'an and pay 1/2 the price for 2x the dumplings and 10x the flavor. Calling a dish "BBQ pork belly" and pricing it at $21 for a 1/2 portion of char siu that is worse and 4x more expensive than something you can find in Chinatown is low key disrespectful. The other failure is "lobster fried rice" that isn't lobster fried rice at all. It's egg fried rice with saucy brussel sprouts and corn for some reason, and an overcooked small lobster tossed on top of it, resulting in a dish that resembles something I'd heat up as leftovers for $54 is mind boggling. The list goes on, bu overall not good, ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY for the price. I think the cheapest thing on the menu was $14 and it was an appetizer. Would avoid like the plague and just go to a takeout spot for 1/4 the price and 4x the flavor. For reference, 5 people at about 7 dishes was $440 after tip/tax. read more

Really great flavors and service. It was a very hot day and I'm not sure if their A/C was broken since it was still warm in there. The price for the size of the portions was expensive. The pastrami egg roll was excellent, the salad with mango and yuzu vinaigrette was delightful. The crispy beef was very crispy which was much appreciated but the sauce could have been sweeter and $20 for that was too much. The 5 flavor chicken dumplings were good but not a ton of flavor.
