The day of dinner, our group unexpectedly dropped down to 7 people, but thankfully Indochine was very accommodating and still allowed us to keep the prix fixe menu while only charging for the guests who were actually present. The prix fixe menu was $95 per person, with an additional welcome cocktail priced at $16 each. When selecting the menu, we were able to choose 3 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 3 sides for the table. They then brought out two of each selected dish, including appetizers, entrees, sides, and desserts. Our welcome cocktail was a passion pomegranate margarita. It was delicious, pretty strong, and definitely on the sweeter side. For appetizers, we chose the chicken shrimp summer rolls, fried spring rolls with sweet plum sauce, and salt and pepper rock shrimp. I enjoyed everything except the summer rolls. They were cold, very plain, lacked flavor, and the texture just wasn't for me personally. For entrees, we had the spicy shrimp, spicy chicken breast, and shaking beef. The shaking beef was my favorite dish of the night. It was flavorful and stood out amongst the other entrees. For sides, we had jasmine rice, sautéed pea shoots, and shrimp fried rice. Dessert included every dessert offered on the prix fixe menu: coconut crème brûlée, French lemon tart, and chocolate truffle cake. The lemon tart was actually my personal favorite. Everyone else at the table thought it was too tart, but I thought the balance was perfect. It's probably a little intense to eat entirely on its own, but alternating bites with the coconut crème brûlée made it even better. I normally don't even like crème brûlée, but this one had such a nice coconut and vanilla bean flavor. I love vanilla bean flavored desserts! I absolutely loved the ambiance of the restaurant. The lighting was dim, candles were lit at every table, and the entire space felt intimate and romantic without trying too hard. It really elevated the overall dining experience. Now the service? IMPECCABLE. Our waitress, Hailey, was incredibly attentive throughout the night. Plates were constantly cleared, silverware was replaced between courses, and water glasses were refilled without anyone feeling intrusive. There were also several other waitresses assisting throughout dinner service, which made everything flow smoothly despite how busy the restaurant was. Then we got a handful of apps - everyone else swore by all the ones they'd had - but I just tried the Salt & Pepper Shrimp and... sweet baby Jesus, this little plate had a wicked amount of flavor from every angle.  "Aggressively seasoned" might be an understatement.  Wild. Onto the mains and I ventured towards their Spicy Drunken Noodle (my go-to whenever I'm hitting a Thai restaurant on my home turf) and... yeah, you probably guessed it - incredible. Not the biggest portion but they made every single component sing with flavor. With so much going on - of course I needed to indulge with another drink (hey, I wasn't driving!). There were six of us, it came to about $100 a person... welcome to NYC. But we did get a wide selection of plates/food and those two drinks accounted for about $40 of my tab. It may sound minor, but details like that take away from the polished and classy feel the restaurant seems to be aiming for. For appetizers, I ordered the calamari. It was fine overall, mostly rings with no tentacles or legs mixed in. Personally, I was hoping for at least a little variety in texture with a few legs included. Flavor wise, it was decent but nothing particularly memorable or unique. The beef fried rice was acceptable as well. The rice did not resemble traditional Asian jasmine rice, though that itself was not a major issue. It just felt more like standard fried rice rather than something elevated. The biggest disappointment for me was the half Peking duck, which was the dish I was most looking forward to. The portion size was surprisingly small, to the point where even my friend commented on how little duck was served for a "half duck" order. The taste itself was okay, but the presentation and quantity made it feel underwhelming, especially considering the pricing. The restaurant does have a bar inside, which is a nice addition visually, but it did not really add anything particularly special to the experience. The location itself is also in an expensive area, and it feels like part of the pricing may simply reflect the overhead costs of operating there. Overall, I walked away disappointed. I was expecting something much more memorable and refined given the prices and presentation of the restaurant. While the ambiance and cleanliness were solid, the food and overall experience did not feel spectacular enough to justify a return visit for me.
