I found this place Saturday morning looking on yelp for a good lunch spot. My girlfriend and I were looking for a good lunch spot with a nice view. We received both here. We were given a nice patio table overlooking the harbor. We ordered a bottle of champagne for a good price and came with a small carafe of orange juice for mimosas. My girlfriend ordered a grilled ham and pineapple sandwich. She really enjoyed it. I myself ordered the prime rib dip. Very flavorful and tender, the Au jus had great flavor. Lastly the service here was great, customer service is taken very seriously here. Everybody was more than friendly and very helpful. Celebrated our 28th anniversary here last night. The food was great and the service good. I had the shrimp scampi but did not want the pasta so they were gracious enough to stitch it out for my choice of site and I chose the garlic mashed potatoes. My husband had the special, Mahi and he really enjoyed it, we shared a bottle of Prosecco.The view is spectacular. We didn't have dessert there, we drove to Sweet Jill's in seal beach. Went for a retirement party held in the private room (for about 65 people) on the bottom floor. It had floor-to-ceiling windows that filled the room with natural light and looked out across the beautiful waterfront. To enter you went down 2 flights of stairs from the lobby. There are no elevators and bathrooms are only located in the lobby. The extra walk around the building back to the front to get to the restrooms was a bit of an inconvenience for those disabled. At least the gardens around the property were picture-worthy with a small bridge and tropical plants. There was a smaller room adjacent to the main room that held the cash bar and the buffet tables. The food was excellent. There was salad, rolls, shrimp pasta, steamed veggies, lemon chicken, baked salmon, and a carved sirloin station. An assortment of cakes and coffee and tea were also available for dessert. Staff came around to refill waters and clear plates. Bartender was efficient and polite. My wife and I attended a wedding reception here Labor Day Weekend. It is a good place to have a reception but there are a few things that make it not that great. The room we were in and a very small foyer that had the buffet, bar, gift table and guests all packed into it. Until the room was ready, it was not opened to guests. There was no place for all of them to wait aside from standing outside in the parking lot and the staff kept bumping into them as they walked in and out of the room to get it ready. We had actually considered this place for our wedding reception last year, but felt this would be a big issue for us. The other reason we did not like the location was due to the color of the walls. They have since been painted white from the awful greenish color of years prior. Once we were inside the room though, everything was great. Since The Reef Restaurant sits on the water of Long Beach Harbor and Queensway Bay, you were captivated with the beautiful views of the Long Beach Skyline. The dance floor is a pretty good size and the spacious arrangement allowed for people to move freely between tables. The food was delicious as expected. We have eaten there many times in the past and have yet to have a terrible meal. If you are looking into a location similar to this one for a wedding reception, then consider The Castaway in Burbank. The pricing for packages is similar as they are part of the Specialty Restaurant Corporation (Orange Hill, The Odyssey, etc.). read more

Everything was good here! Came at early lunch and the place was so empty we thought it was closed. Thank goodness it wasn't. Were seated by the window which had an amazing view of the water. We ordered the duck potstickers for appetizer which were cooked so well! Not too crispy or watery. My friend ordered the fish and chips that turned out to be a huge portion! The fish was so hot when it came out with enough batter that you could still taste the fresh fish. I split a sandwich and soup lunch combo with my mom, which was more than enough for both of us. We got the vegetable soup which came out huge and was so tasty. I'm not the type of person who usually likes soup but I was really glad we ordered this one! We then got a turkey club on a croissant which was super tasty. They had pretty large rooms for banquets. I would love to hold something here! Again great food and service. Sad to say but definitely the last time we go here for a Christmas party. Great views, beautiful restaurant with lovely holiday decorations but the buck stops here. We had the banquet room, appetizers were good and drinks were suffice. Then came the food. We preordered because you have to, and pay ahead. (If someone doesn't show, you pay for their meal). Everyone in the group who ordered steak gets it cooked one way, medium rare. If you want it cooked a different way, you have to request it and good luck getting it that way. "Medium rare" and all our guests had well done steals, with a TON of sauce poured over them. The Mahi Mahi were huge portions, but lacked flavor (I had to salt it). Desserts were lovely, but coffee was already sitting on the table when we arrived during social time (we are drinking champagne and wine with appetizers, not coffee) and then when it was time for coffee it was cold and the server did NOT want to provide fresh coffee, and stated "it was provided since the beginning" which I understand, but who is drinking coffee at that time. The "cappuccino" was already in a carafe so not sure what that meant (a powder mix?). You eat half your meal, and want to take the rest home? NO. No "to-go" boxes allowed with a "banquet" (it's a Christmas party"). Overall the experience was not good, not an experience that you think you would return for. Love the ambiance and views here. The brunch has so many options, you can't stop going for more. I love the environment for weddings and receptions as well. All of my friends who were married here had nothing but compliments to give. The marina outside is the best background for wedding pictures, especially on a clear and sunny day. If you come from brunch, definitely make an appointment. The wait can get a big long and that is when the front desk seems to get overwhelmed and customer service lacks a bit. read more

On October 2, 2020 was when my wedding reception was suppose to take place here. We made our deposit on time and even paid in full our balance a month or so before the wedding only for Jamie Schwarcz who happens to be the Director of Events, she tells us the week of our wedding that they might not be opened due to COVID restrictions/guidelines in which she did not mention not once while we were making our payments that they might not be opened. It was such an inconvenience having to call vendors last minute and the week of my wedding at that to try to accommodate for my wedding reception. Luckily the vendors we awesome and we were able to pull it off, but that's besides the point. We paid between $12,000-$12,500 and only got refunded $3,000. What a RIP OFF!!! DO NOT have your event here. I loved the reef and would always go here with my family for brunch, but after this fiasco no more. The service is amazing our server Laura is awesome and attentive!!!!! Here for Sunday brunch the variety for food is vast we could not make it to all stations before getting full. There was a photographer her name is Elaina she took great candids of us we bought all three photos for $33, and she takes card. Brought my mom as a nice outing for her she had nothing but glowing words. Then nit and grit: main ballroom has 12 main dishes including eggs, sausage and bacon plates, there is a carving station that has ham prime rib and turkey, a waffle station and an omelet station on the patio. Cakes table, made sushi station. Chocolate fondue as you enter the establishment a small salad station and a grill area for items like eggs Benedictine such. Just got married here last Saturday, April 28th and we had the absolute best time. The whole process was super easy from start to finish. Jamie was so helpful and not once did she ever seem bothered by all of my questions (I had a lot). She was so sweet the whole time and we were so happy with her customer service. This review is based solely on a birthday brunch I attended there but I would definitely go back. On the menu: Brisket, bacon, sausage, chicken breast, and salmon. I tasted everything except the chicken and it was all good. Tender salmon in a dill sauce was moist and very good. The sausage was out of this world and there was plenty of crispy bacon to choose from. Sides: green salad, potato salad (different but delish) pasta salad (what evs) red potatoes breakfast style with peppers, fresh fruit and mini danish. Again, all really good. Buffet stations: seafood section with mussels, crab legs, shrimps, smoked salmon with caviar toppings, carving station with ham, roast beef and turkey breast I think, salad station with at least 15 choices, dessert section with at least 10 choices, juice bar, tea, hot chocolate with REAL whipped cream, live pasta station where they cook your pasta right in front of you, man alot of stuff for that price! Valet parking is free and quick (just tip), the view is wonderful, the restaurant decor a bit "old school" but nice. I recommend going there not in a big group ( no more than 6) so you can still get a nice table right by the window. Went for my monthly mimosa brunch with friends. This is my first time here and most likely my last... the food was great and our champagne glasses were never really empty. My main issue is with the clientele and the lack of AC. The room was in the 80's and stuffy. It was crowded already but that just made it worst.... now the ppl... I use to live in the ghetto and it felt like I was right back there. Ppl were all up in each other's business talking over each other and pushing. I've been to the Reef twice now for different occasions and can say that the venue operates better as an event space as it does as a restaurant. The place is beautiful inside-out and has a great view wherever you choose to sit. It's particularly gorgeous at nighttime and makes for great photo opportunities if you happen to be on the rooftop! I can't speak for its dinner options, but the lunch options were pretty good. Our waiter Doug was really attentive and patient with us since we had a large family come in for the holiday, so I appreciated that! Also a good place for kids too. Not very crowded in the daytime, but it was a peaceful atmosphere. The menu itself had a good assortment of different foods. We ordered the Reef Sampler to start us off, which was a little heavy for an appetizer but it was probably the most bang-for-your-buck option there was. I ordered the grilled scallop and shrimp with pineapple fried rice. In our experience, the seafood plates were much better prepared than the meat. Those of us who ordered the prime rib found that it came out a little cold and wasn't very tasteful. Another problem is that the place had flies... I understand it was a hot day, and the flies mostly lingered in the corner that we happened to be placed at. But they really should take care of that if they're trying to maintain a reputation as a higher-end restaurant. DELICOUS and the top service we received by CLAUDIA AND RUBEN is impeccable. ...no drink went empty and all plates cleared constantly.......that is the most important part once at your table. ......food is perfect so much selection and everything was hot and tender and there was everythomg you expect for Thanksgiving. Reservations were somehow mixed up even though we called ahead of time & requested for a window seat. I made reservations to celebrate 3 family events. Our reservation was at 7pm but we got seated at almost 8pm even when the place is basically empty (now we know why). Service is extremely bad. They messed up our orders and food took a long time. Some orders were not cooked to the correct specification. About 7 of us ordered scallops but they served us salmon instead because apparently they ran out of scallops but they did not inform us ahead of time nor did they give us a chance to change our orders. On top of that, the manager did not come to our table to apologize for the mistakes made. Taste of the food was just okay. Terrible restaurant overall. Waste of time and money!!! bad service and big disappointment.. cold food was served, wrong chairs, the bar always running out of white wine and my guests had to reuse their glasses because there was shortage, no steak knife , we asked the server but still no steak knife were given..there were some chairs and cake toppers were not picked up outside the patio that was used the day before ( its so ugly to see ). We came to the Reef for Xmas 2019 and we were very disappointed! The service was slow and they were stingy with the champagne!! The food was cold and some dishes very unappealing. Also, you had to order your sliders, omelette n crab legs from the table and they were very slow to fill your order! They were also very stingy with their scrawny crab legs!! I can get meatier crab legs from Berth 55. In the Carver area, they had a filthy roasted pig n gross looking duck hanging from black strings. It also took forever to settle the bill n get her attention throughout the meal. We were just really disappointed! It is true management has changed and so has the employees!! Seems like South of the Border is running the Reef now. Please do yourself a favor and don't go! We will not be back! I wonder how is the brunch at Queen Mary, we shall see. Just left The Reef and we will not be returning. Decided to make a reservation for Valentine's Day and spent $75 per person. The salad didn't taste fresh, the meat/ fish was dry, and the service was not good at all. The food was also barely warm. I expected much more from how they presented this restaurant. We never once had our waiter ask us if we needed anything. Also they kept taking out forks but not bringing another set with the next course so we were stuck waiting for anyone to pass which by that time the food was cold. I'm usually one to give benefit of the doubt but it was not even that busy to where this should have been an issue. You can for sure go somewhere else for way better quality/ customer service and save some money. read more

I was very let down by this place. Beautiful views but food and atmosphere was sub par. For $50/person for brunch, your AC better be working properly! My friends and I came here for a bday brunch and we were so uncomfortable during our time here. Yes, it was hot Outside...90 or so but I shouldn't have to continually walk to the main lobby area to cool down. I told our waiter to please put the air higher because its hot. We had to Keep wiping our heads or fanning ourselves and I don't care how nice the view is, if I'm hot then I'm Miserable. The food was just ok. The sausage was dry and over cooked , the roast beef was flavorless, even with the au jue sauce. The mashed potatoes were not the right consistency, and the crackers for the crab legs were all rusted! Pretty gross if u ask me. The mini waffles were really good, but u can't mess those up. The cheese enchiladas were decent and the pork carnitas were very good. Had an omelet And I felt bad for the workers that were outside in heat over the stoves! I few like there should be a fan for them or something. If I was miserable, I could only imagine what they felt like! Oh and their self parking is VERY limited but they MAKE you pay for Valet, even though it's literally 10 ft away to park your own car. I really hate when places do that.
