Very cool breakfast place near the San Pedro port. Great atmosphere! Their coffee was unique and awesome: Light, yet with a broad flavor range and earthy more typical of Central American coffee. Couldn't get enough! I got the Stuffed French Toast. Nice fresh strawberries and bananas on top. It was Very good, but didn't blow me away like some of the other reviewers were saying. This spot is consistently good, quasi healthy and packed. It's totally worth the wait tho. The service is always friendly, the food comes out in a reasonable time and the coffee is always on point. The food is good but the location and service suck. Small area so everyone is crowded, the homeless are everywhere so if you sit out in the small patio, they will walk around and ask for food or yell at you sometimes. The service is bad. The short lady who is the waitress will cut you off as quickly as possible, can never finish your order properly and will leave mid sentence and snatch the menu from your hands . If you ask for anything else, such as condiments, she will walk away faster than you can say "ketchup please". We love the food here but we get reservations knowing that women with major attitude works here. read more

I came for breakfast with a few girlfriends after a hike, and it was pretty busy. It seemed like a lot of locals come here and it has a diner feel. We shared a few items, but I really enjoyed the breakfast wrap. Their stuffed banana french toast was also pretty good. The stuffing was a blend of cream cheese and banana which made it rather light. The pictures of their muffins looked so good so we ordered a banana nut muffin but it was kind of dry. Overall, a good diner spot for breakfast. read more

I living San pedro went there first time. I noticed a spanish speaking waitress was a loud mouth. She came to ask what i want to drink. I told her give me a minute. She said it again. I said it again i thought she didnt hear me. Third time i said time strongly she asked again. She said i yelled at her. I never did. Its obvious her english isnt well. She told to leave . Embarass me in front of everyone. Ppl next to me saw what happened know i wasnt in the wrong. Any other diner in san pedro this would never have happened. I will never go there aain and tell everyone I know what happened. Why would owner hire someone like that. I told her I would a review on yelp. She said I don't care. Maybe she was the owner. Found this breakfast gem by driving by and checking on Yelp. True, not a great neighborhood but not bad. For goodness sakes, it's the morning you Yelpers who fear the shadows! Also a short drive from the Doubletree. Parking was easy on a Weekday morning and we were seated immediately. Extensive menu for eggs and pancakes. I ordered the California omelet which included bacon, cheese , mushrooms, spinach and topped avocado. I switched out the sour cream for salsa. Just an amazing omelet. Also, They don't add extra salt to their food. I selected the fruit side which had fresh melon, pineapple, grapes, strawberries and kiwi. And a fresh homemade blueberry almond muffin, which is a meal, on itself. Prices are reasonable and service was excellent. read more

Not a great day at Rex's... Asked for no whipped cream .. got it anyway. Asked for hash browns to be well done and got them barely browned. Got two of three breakfast at table and practically finished the first two before our guest's arrived. To their credit (and our) they owed up and took 20% off of it for being no late. Took my Nana, out for breakfast the other day and i must say the breakfast i had was amazingly delicious. Everything was neatly done and well organized. The place is like a lil cottage. Very homie. Point blank: go for the food because the service is utter trash. Servers need to handle their stress, attitude and be honest with their managers/ owners about how much work they can *actually* handle. I'm a server. And, I understand 3 BASIC THINGS: 1 shifts are busy, 2 guests are often needy and 3 tips are how you make your money. This spot is popular. It's often hard to get a table and a parking spot. Come ready to wait. Ask for everything up front: creamer, napkins, sauces, extra anything... they will NOT come back after the first round of drinks unless they are carrying your food. Expect to be treated rudely, expect to be rushed and expect to mostly be ignored by staff unless you are ordering or paying. The servers here can not handle more than one or two tables. The place is tinnnnny and even with 3-4 servers AND A BUSSER they can't manager to refill drinks or even be polite. The food is BOMB-- so maybe order "to go" so you only have to deal with the rude staff for like 3 minutes? read more

We went to Rex Cafe and had an amazing breakfast. The place is super cute and cozy. The coffee is delicious, rich and bold. I ordered the eggs Benedict and opted for fruit on the side. The ingredients were very fresh and eggs were cooked perfectly. The fruit bowl was a big surprise! Freshly cut strawberries, kiwi, and other colorful and fresh fruit, yum!! My coworkers and I were on a break and stumbled on this little gem. Very welcoming and cozy. Our waitress Maggie was very polite and gave many options. I ordered the pancakes, eggs and sausage with a glass of lemonade. Delicious! The pancakes were fluffy and flavorful and the lemonade taste fresh. Really good breakfast place in not a very nice neighborhood, but most of the time that's where you find the really delicious hole in the wall places. The portions are good, reasonable prices and staff is very straight forward in a nice way. Come early on weekends or you'll be waiting outside for awhile since there isn't really a waiting area inside. read more

I'd really wanted to give Rex's Cafe a 5 star rating, but this place lacks a parking lot. Unfortunately, this area of San Pedro has a homeless problem, just like everywhere else. Sadly, they're hanging around the entrance of the restaurant and all over the streets. Just don't leave any valuable visible in your car when you park for obvious reasons. The menu have both breakfast and lunch items to select from, which makes sense since they close at 2PM. Breakfast items are both a variety of Mexican and American items, so there's something to satisfy your taste buds. I just skimmed over the lunch items, as it was about 8AM when we went there. My bacon and cheese omelet was absolutely on point and served with home fries. Home fries was such a generous portion, but I forced myself to finish them. Literally forced myself. Prices are very reasonable and the staff members are really friendly. But like I mentioned earlier, there's no parking lot, just street parking. read more
