I've been going to Ria's for a spell, but I hadn't been for a while and definitely not since I've been yelping, so it appears that not too much has changed over the years. My skillet potatoes were a little bit more well done than I would have preferred, but I'm aware, sensible and mostly forgiving (Human error often deserves a mulligan). Overall, the customer service, price, plate size, quality and taste of the food hasn't changed much, which is absolutely a "good thing". Curiously, there was no salt or pepper on the table (Or ANY table) and my assumption is, it's because of the current pandemic and I didn't need salt and pepper anyway...No harm, no foul; Just an observation. Ria's Bluebird is one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta. And it's clear that this place is loved by locals as well. Whenever I come, there is always a line. This last visit we arrived 15 minutes before opening and there were already 4 cars waiting in the parking lot. The place itself is basically a small diner: cozy and quaint. Service has always been pretty friendly and quick. I keep meaning to try other menu items, but their Brisket Breakfast is just too delicious. The ratio of poached eggs:brisket:tomato broth is perfect. The broth has just enough kick to it without it being too distracting. The accompanying bread is the right amount of crispiness on the outside and soft in the middle. If I had to nitpick, I wish it came with just a little more bread. I love Ria's Bluebird; definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some breakfast/brunch in Atlanta. read more

Ria's Bluebird has some of the best pancakes in town. And it's not just me! Some people in my group claimed the same, as well as the New York Times, no big deal. We came on an "early" Saturday morning around 9:45am after running a 5K race downtown and it was PACKED. I called ahead, although they don't make reservations, and let them know there would be a party of approximately 15 coming their way. We put our names down as soon as we arrived and waited outside in the windy cold, as there is very little waiting room inside. You can order coffee before you're seated while you are waiting - because you can never have too much coffee when it's bottomless coffee. While there was no way they would be able to seat all of us at one table, we were able to finally get seated within 45 minutes (I think...) when we split our tables: one table "outside" on the covered patio, while the other table was in a tight corner inside. Even so, we were all able to be seated comfortably. FOOD I ordered the special of the day, because omg who can say no to braised short ribs, even at 10am? The braised short ribs also came swimming alongside two poached eggs in the meaty sauce. While the sauce wasn't too much to rave about, the short ribs were on POINT. I have a couple friends at the table who ordered the brisket breakfast, and THAT sauce was something you would have to pin me down from to keep me licking the bowl clean. My friend and I also decided to split a short stack of the daily special pancakes, which was their usual pancakes topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. It was a tasty and delicious surprise, especially after I drizzled on the hot sugary syrup over the top. My only regret was not ordering the fat stack, but honestly, I probably never NEED a fat stack of anything. While it's a long wait during peak hours, I'll have to say, Ria's Bluebird is definitely a solid brunch place with a bustling but chill atmosphere (is that even possible?). Overall, I do think it can be a little pricier than other brunch spots, but those perfect pancakes make it ALMOST worth it. read more

I can't wait to come back and try them again! I order the "Huevos" and is very simple but tasty! The huevos consist of 2 eggs with salsa verde, beans (you have a choice between black or pinto) sour cream and cheese. All of that on top of a bed of 3 rolled Blue corn tortillas that are super crunchy! We also asked for their "the world's best pancakes" which are this fluffy buttermilk pancakes topped with hot maple syrup and you have the choice of adding either: toasted Georgia pecans, caramelized bananas or chocolate chips. We chose the bananas! Everything was well season and tasted so fresh. The restaurant itself is small and a little eclectic. Nonetheless, very fun. The staff is super friendly. We had a little wait when we went in the middle of the day during a week day. I can't imagine how packed they are during the weekend. read more

Ria's came highly recommended and we decided to try it today (7/18/21). We arrived at 11am on a Sunday to find Ria's currently has no indoor seating and only 7 small tables on a makeshift patio area, over an hour wait. They are allowing takeout orders from the bar and the host was very kind. We'll return when we have more time to wait, or plan to arrive earlier. read more

I have had this restaurant on my Atlanta list for a long time and I was very underwhelmed. They are known for their pancakes and they were pretty good, but wasn't impressed with much else that I ate. The grits were over seasoned and the eggs were over cooked. The space is extremely small, maybe only about 10 tables, which makes me understand why there is always a wait. But honestly, I don't think that it is really worth the wait. We went on a weekday for lunch so didn't have to wait, and I still don't think I would go back in the same scenario. read more

The Shrimp & Grits were delicious and my friend was able to find a good Vegetarian brunch option. Pancakes are good, typical pancakes. I took off 2 because while our server was wonderful, the hostess and another staff member were not the kindest and made us feel unwelcome. read more

LOVE the logo here at Ria's Bluebird. You get a real good view on the side of the restaurant that welcomes you to some real good Southern hospitality. Our last brunch in Atlanta took us to this little gem across from the Oakland Cemetery. My friend was reuniting with an old buddy of his, so we decided to check out a place with supposedly good brunch and free parking. I'm happy to say that both expectations were met! I went with the classic Cheesy Shrimp & Grits that came with toast. My grits were delicious! Not too heavy and doused with a very tangy sauce that blended all of the flavors together. My friend ordered some pancakes (which they're known for) and they too were fluffy and amazing. He also really enjoyed the coffee that comes with free refills- might need to take note for next time! Our server was super awesome and made sure we were taken care of the entire time. Decor wise- Ria's has large windows that welcome some natural Georgian sunlight into its corridors. This spot gets busy real quick so do be conscious of how much time you're spending chit chatting at your table if there is a line waiting outside. It's only considerate. This was the worst experience I've had with a restaurant. We waited outside to order our food, I asked the hostess if while we watch for our order and a table opens up can we take it and she said yes we have two tables in front of you. 55 mins has passed and I have not been given a table nor have I received my food!! An hour is too long to sit and wait for a restaurant to prepare eggs, and postage's which is all I ordered. Unprofessional and inefficient. read more

This was my first time dining at Ria's Bluebird. The restaurant is cute and quaint with hipster vibes. There's a small indoor dining area, a bar top area, and outdoor patio. My husband and I sat at the bar top. I ordered the short stack pancake special( with macerated peaches and whipped cream topping), sautéed kale and a sausage patty. My husband ordered the omelette of the day, with skillet potatoes, bacon, and a biscuit. Our server was friendly and the food came out quickly. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The portion sizes were great for the price too. Not an issue for me but, a 20% gratuity is automatically charged to your bill. I would definitely visit again when in the area. read more

Ria's is awesome! I've enjoyed it each time, and it's true... They really do have the best pancakes! The pancakes here are really fluffy, and the banana pancakes taste like heaven. I usually order the Early Bird Special, which has quite a few options - whatever you do, go with the side of potatoes! When I go to Ria's, it's usually because I'm craving the potatoes. Today, I decided to try the breakfast burrito - Amazing! It's eggs, potatoes, and your choice of black or pinto beans, wrapped in a burrito and topped with sour cream and salsa verde. So good! It's also pretty large, and it comes with a side. I love that at Ria's meat is a side option. Atmosphere - It's a cool breakfast/brunch spot. Quite small. I like the vintage, rustic feel. There's usually a wait. Note: There is a covered, heated patio. There are a few parking spots, but you will most likely have to park in the neighborhood. That said, you'll want to get there early to beat the crowd. read more

I've passed by this restaurant many times on the way to and from the zoo but was always hesitant to stop because of the crazy wait for a table. I decided to stop by and get takeout so that I can try out something from the menu. I got the deep dish frittata, which is vegan friendly. It is tofu filled with kale, potatoes, zucchini, and broccoli and there is a crispy cornmeal crust on top. It is served with a tomato sauce that really adds to the flavor of the dish. I realize that it can be hard to find good vegetarian/vegan friendly dishes and this is one of those items. Would want to come back to try out some of their other items. Was seated right away on a Saturday brunch, and so thankful for that! Food was 5/5, service was 5/5 We got their blueberry pancakes, which was a "special", but I think should be have a permanent place on their menu considering it's called "bluebird" and they're so good! the pancakes come with 2 and are super fluffy and light! The perfect amount to share. I also tried the country fried tempeh (soybean) and it was delicious! I'm not vegetarian or anything, but so worth the try! I even added two eggs over medium to the dish, and it was even better! The ooey gooey eggs with the biscuits and gravy and fried tempeh with kale made me feel like I was eating a hearty but healthy breakfast! Prices are super reasonable too, all that for $22! read more

VEGAN REVIEW: I wasn't expecting to fall in love when I went to Ria's but I did... with the Tofu Frittata. I am completely in awe of how amazingly flavorful, rich and delectable the Frittata was. How did they do it? It was magic. The red sauce on the dish was a fantastic addition to the tofu frittata and gave an earthy warmth to the already perfect frittata. The saddest part of my visit to Ria's was when I finished my frittata. I even tried to make it last longer by spacing out my bites, but all good things come to an end, right? I went through the appropriate stages of grief, and then started planning my next visit back to Ria's. It was really outstanding and I highly recommend it to anyone/everyone. Note about the frittata: it takes an extra 10 minutes on top of prep time to bake, so if you're super hungry and can't wait an extra 10, then go for something else, but it's worth the 10+ minute wait. Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and had an appropriate level of enthusiasm for pre-coffee 9am Sunday morning. She explained the specials to us (pumpkin pancakes with a special flavored whipped cream and a Mexican-inspired dish) and answered my question to confirm the frittata as vegan. The wait time for Sunday brunch was about 15 or 20 minutes. Parking lot was packed upon arrival but street parking is plentiful. There are around 8 tables inside and a think a few more around back but I cannot say for sure. I just noticed people walking towards the back, so I'm assuming there was more seating. read more

One of our favorites spots but we can never come here again. Aside from the fact that every Covid precaution they have makes no sense and totally screws their customers they are literally KILLING THE PLANET. And use the bathroom before you come because the limited menu does not include restroom services. And be sure not to complain because their having none of that! read more

Parking at Ria's is a little tight even when we went about 45 minutes before closing. We parked a few blocks down but didn't mind the walk. There was a bit of a wait for tables but we expected that reading yelp reviews and eating here on a weekend. The inside of this place is very kitschy and has cute trinkets of blue birds. I ordered the pancakes with carmelized bananas and they were good. The big stack has 3 pancakes for 9 dollars with the banana topping. It really is a big stack and filled me up. I ate all three pancakes as taking pancakes home usually don't end up as great the next day. My boyfriend ordered the brisket quesadilla and I tried a bite. It was tasty. I'm sure if that's good here then the brisket breakfast is also yummy (almost picked the brisket breakfast). We also shared a side of hummus with pita. Hummus tasted fresh and lemony. Our server was chill even when we were there about 30 minutes before closing. It was 28 bucks all in before the tip for 2 iced coffees, two entrees and a side. We will definitely be back when we're around grant park. read more

When I pulled up, he greeted me with a smile, brought my food out, and confidently told me I was going to enjoy it and he was absolutely right. I originally planned to grab my food and go, but his energy made me slow down, sit, pray, and actually enjoy the moment. I asked for a lime Jarritos, and he recommended pineapple instead to pair with the jerk seasoned wild caught salmon sandwich. That recommendation was on point and really elevated the whole experience. That sandwich hits. Every bite pops with flavor across your entire palate. The salmon was perfectly cooked, juicy but not soggy. The kale had the right crunch. The onions tied everything together. And that homemade garlic butter on the salmon took it to another level. It's a creative spin on a traditional cheesesteak. I'm sure the beef options are great too, but if you want seafood, this is the move. I've had a Philly cheesesteak in Philly before, and honestly, I don't need to go back. When I'm in Atlanta, I'm coming here. Once they arrived, I understood the cost. The seasoning and flavor were truly good, but the oysters themselves were extremely small and a bit tough. The meat was tiny and often stuck to the adductor muscle, which took away from the experience. I also ordered a side of corn. Unfortunately, it was a zero out of ten for me. The cobs had no flavor and were served with only a bit of fake butter and crab boil pooling at the bottom of the plate. I did not finish them. On a brighter note, I tried the Zulu Punch from the happy hour menu. For five dollars, it was a solid drink and definitely worth the price. I will probably return because there are menu items I do enjoy. I just know that the next time I come here specifically for oysters, I will need to lower my expectations.

The restaurant also provides complimentary house made pickles, and they were genuinely good. For my drink, I tried the Sneaky Link cocktail. Noah added muddled strawberries because it was a fresh batch and needed a little balance. I would honestly recommend keeping the strawberries as part of the drink because it turned out delicious. For entrées, we ordered the Heck Fire Burger and chose to have the bread served shareable style. They bake their bread in house and it is so good that they could easily offer a bread service option on its own. We also tried the lamb shank which was tender and very well prepared. The only disappointment of the entire evening was the bread pudding. It was recommended with a lot of enthusiasm which made me excited to try it. I ordered it to go and reheated it at home. Unfortunately, it tasted freezer burnt and slightly cross contaminated, almost as if it had absorbed the flavor of another item nearby. We also went for the pickles and edamame. The pickles had a unique tang to them that any beer lover would love. The edamame was covered in a delicious chili garlic oil and had some crunch to each bite with the cilantro and dried spices on top. I would definitely come back here for the food alone. During my most recent visit, they were nearly sold out of several bagel options, including my usual classic bagel. I was disappointed because I had my mind set on my regular order, but one of the employees went out of his way to accommodate me. He offered to use a salted bagel and remove the salt so I could still enjoy my sandwich as close to my usual order as possible. I really appreciated his willingness to help rather than simply telling me they were out. The service has always been friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming. Even when they are busy or running low on inventory, the staff still makes an effort to take care of their customers. It may have taken me four years to finally stop in, but Emerald City Bagels has quickly become a neighborhood favorite. Quite oily too. Overall, I enjoyed the cheesesteak but would probably skip the fries next time. I do believe it is good especially the bread. The guacamole is exactly what you expect, simple and comforting while the charro beans are the best I've ever had, seriously. Service is top tier and food is served quickly, which elevates the whole experience. I've been twice and I'll be back for another marg!

Aside from the fact this place does not have any alcoholic beverages whatsoever, this is one of my favorite places to sit down and eat in the entire city! I don't wander from my favorites often so I can't speak for every item on the menu but since everyone has wanked off to the pancakes ad nauseam, I'll talk about other things. You can almost never go wrong with the omelet of the day and the delicious meats, cheeses, and vegetables they stuff into them. The brisket is slow-cooked to sweet, tender, and savory joy on a spork. I haven't had the english muffins but when you're given the choice of muffin or biscuit, get the biscuit with two tubs of the jam. I can't remember if its blueberry or blackberry but damn. The biscuit is a thick block of moist buttery beauty that would constitute a feast all on its own in some parts of the globe. The sweet potato cakes are interesting and its up to you to decide if you like them. I love them because they have that sweet pulp flavor but they come out with the toasted onion flavor of latkas. That's probably because they're cooked on the same flattops used for everything else that's cooked. Still, give 'em a try and see what you think. So, that's all I've eaten. What else? They close at 3 every day and that sucks but I kind of like the fact that I can't eat there every day because I end up enjoying it that much more when I can wake up before mid-afternoon. Prices are good and they take credit cards blah blah blah. Oh yeah, the parking! The parking is tighter than...um, well it's pretty tight. I usually park around the cemetery or in the neighborhoods and just enjoy the walk to the restaurant. That's all I can think of. So I finally got a chance to try the all mighty Ria's Bluebird. The good: I opted for breakfast so the early bird special was what appealed to me. If you have any vegetarians in your crew they will find something on the menu unlike other brunch spots. For all that I've heard about this place I was really surprised at how small menu was. I'll say now that I "really" should have gotten the pancakes. I know the reviews raved about this & i'm kicking myself now for not getting them. But with that aside I really liked what I got. It was good and almost worth that time it takes to get in this place. With the early bird you have your choice of meat [I got sausage], grits or potatoes [I went with the grits] and a biscuit or English muffin. The sausage seems to be made in-house with bits of onion and a not to salty taste. The grits smooth and creamy and the biscuit light and fluffy. The atmosphere is casual and be prepared to get to know your neighbors because seating is tight. The bad: As I guess most should know is the wait. Other than West Egg & sometimes Highland Bakery, this is the longest I've had to wait to get some food. I get that it's popular but it couldn't hurt to possibly put some additional benches at the side of the parking lot to make the guests a little more comfortable. Even the food took awhile to come out of the kitchen so the overall experience if you are super hungry and want to eat quickly this maybe not be the place for you to go. Just a piece of advice with the sometimes hour plus wait time to get a table do yourself a favor and walk down the street. I actually love the food at Rias Bluebird. I eat there regularly .. but today has really changed my whole outlook on the establishment. I dined at the restaurant and after I left, another waitress walked up to my car in the parking lot and inquired if something was wrong with my service. I advised her that the service was fine and she then proceeded to question why I didn't leave a tip. Honestly, I leave a tip every time I dine there. The one time I choose to not leave a tip and I'm chastised by a waitress that didn't even serve me. As she walked away from my car she murmured "don't come back", as if I don't dine there on a regular. My outlook on the situation is, gratuity IS optional. It isn't mandatory and if it was, it would be added onto the check automatically. I've been to other establishments and gratuity was already added in. I do not feel it is very professional to walk out to a customers car and chastise them about a tab that had nothing to do with them. I really like the staff there. Typically, the vibe is very friendly. After today, I'll take my business elsewhere. Outside of the limited parking, I had no complaints. Now, I feel as if the staff can do whatever they please (according to the conversation I had with the manager) and whenever they please with no limitations. That's not acceptable, especially not from a continuous paying customer. I understand gratuity and how it works perfectly fine. I do have the option, regardless. And I didn't appreciate the attitude of the waitress today. read more

Incredible food, delightful atmosphere! Ria's is one of the few places that turns food I THOUGHT I didn't like on its head, and makes it wonderful! Which speaks volumes for the food I actually do like! It's the biscuits & gravy -- all vegetarian, yet light and tasty! -- that sold me. But I never really like pancakes before I tried Ria's light, fluffy, but not too thick, pancakes -- which by the way, were rated as among the best in the world by the New York Times! Then there's the tempeh -- which I also never liked -- until I tried the Bluebird's marinated, seasoned and savory version. Ditto poached eggs and eggs benedict. Now I always get the "special" whenever I go; it's always something fresh and creative, like the banana bread french toast last weekend! The atmosphere is casually beautiful, like an overgrown flower garden. Definitely check out the patio, with the calming fountain and grotto-like feel. One weekend I was dining back there and noticed Ria and the staff fluttering about nervously -- turns out a gentleman was asking his girlfriend to marry him right there in front of the fountain! Wow, what better recommendation?! The service is what I call European -- perfectly fine, but not overly solicitous, as Americans tend to be used to (think Chili's). Ria's Bluebird absolutely blew me away with its incredible food and wonderfully vibrant atmosphere! From the moment we walked in, the environment felt warm, inviting, and had a fantastic buzz that instantly made you feel at home. It's truly a charming spot with a unique character that enhances the dining experience. And then there's the food - oh, the food! Every single bite was a revelation. The ingredients were clearly fresh, and the flavors were simply outstanding. It's the kind of food that makes you close your eyes and savor every moment. The only minor drawback, which kept it from being an absolutely flawless experience, was the service. Our server seemed much more engaged in friendly chatter with the other staff than attentive to the customers. We found ourselves waiting longer than necessary for things like refills or to get their attention, which was a bit frustrating given the excellence of everything else. Despite the slightly distracted service, the sheer quality of the food and the delightful ambiance more than made up for it. Ria's Bluebird is a must-visit for any food lover. I have never written a review on this site and frankly find most of them to be inane and useless.....people without the backbone to address a problem directly but choosing to whine like babies and complain when there can be no defense. I loved the Bluebird. i loved the food and the service was great too. No I couldnt make any substitutions...but then when my momma cooked for me I wasnt allowed to dictate the menu to her either. Get over yourselves.....for a restuarant to stand by their menu is refreshing and admirable. And the pathetic folks who think they can complain that they didnt get their asses kissed the proper way somehow equating with bad service?.....nope...that is not how it works. Sorry to rant like this but i have been in the business before and it is so annoying to listen to people complain about things that make them sound like idiots. I love this place-- anyone who has ever talked to me about brunch in Atlanta has heard me mention Ria's. I had a friend visiting for the weekend once who liked it so much that he asked to go again the next day. Vegetarians: the tofu scramble is my favorite, though the bionic breakfast comes in a close second. The soysage is tasty and has great texture for fake meat. If you have a sweet tooth, definitely try the pancakes. If you're lucky, you might come on a day when they're serving strawberry pancakes with lemon sauce. Meat-eaters: my absolute favorite dish is the brisket breakfast. Ria's is one of only two places where I'll order grits-- the fish and grits are great. I've also never been disappointed with the eggs benedict specials. If I go with one other friend, I'll usually try to convince them to split three dishes-- two savory and one sweet (pancakes). Ria's Bluebird is a fantastic breakfast and brunch spot in Atlanta. The restaurant is not far from downtown, but it's not exactly in the midst of the hustle and bustle, which makes for a relaxing dining experience. However, be prepared for a wait, so it's advisable to call ahead. The menu features several noteworthy items, including the famous buttermilk pancakes, shrimp and grits, and sweet potato cake. The New York Times even claimed that Ria's has the world's best pancakes, and after trying them myself, I have to agree. They are made from scratch and come with butter and maple syrup on the side, and they were fluffy and delicious. The sautéed shrimp over white cheddar grits with poblano and red peppers in a spicy broth is also a must-try dish. The staff at Ria's Bluebird is very friendly and helpful, and the restaurant has a cool, laid-back vibe. I definitely look forward to visiting Ria's next time that I'm in Atlanta! read more

If I were only judging the food, then Ria's would get five stars. It's the service that brings this place down. It can be very inconsistent. I actually had my breakfast brought BEFORE my coffee the last time was in for a meal. That's pretty unforgivable. It's the morning...bring my coffee quick and keep it flowing. I'll tell you when to stop. Don't make me keep asking! The food however, is fabulous! I really like the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits are very fluffy and moist. This place probably doesn't need another glowing review, but I"m going to give it one anyway. Everything on the menu is a winner, but the brisket breakfast in particular is worth waiting* for. I mean, how can you beat slow cooked brisket, yoaky eggs and baguete for breakfast? Everyone there is super friendly, and the coffee rocks. * Ok, the only downer here are the waits. It's a long wait on weekends, unfortunately. I mean, it's nearly as bad as the waits at OHOP on Cheshire Bridge. "No" is the word of the day here. I'm normally a really positive guy, so when I need to get knocked down a few pegs I head over to Ria's. Don't expect to try to ask for anything on the menu to be made any different to suite your individual tastebuds. It in't happinin here. Ask for no ice in your lemonade? NO...Hell No! This is my go to place when I am in one of my masochistic moods and want a side of abuse served with my pancakes(which are really good, by the way). Went for lunch today and asked to sit outside. I was told "I think that section is closed", the woman looked up at the clock, then said "yeah, it's after 2:00. It was 1:55. I understand if you don't want to seat people outside at a certain time-but don't lie to me and act as if I'm some burden you must endure.There was absolutely no attempt to make us comfortable, and we were seated at a tiny table with stacks of dirty dishes to my left and an obnoxiously loud pair to my right. We stumbled across this after needing a breakfast place to stop at on our trip from ATL to Lake Oconee. How fortunate! It was a little brisk out, but we loved the little outdoor set-up. Our table had a good amount of sun to warm us up. The service was impeccable. I had the Bionic Breakfast which was phenomenal - layers of amazing flavors. Even my meat and potatoes husband raved after reluctantly tasting it. His Early Bird breakfast was tasty and the white pepper gravy was a bonus. Definitely give this place a try. read more

Arrogant attitude!!! Will NEVER go back. "Customers" are not allowed to wait inside the restaurant. Plus, if you are on the waiting list, you are not allowed to purchase a cup of coffee and sit on a bar stool. Once you purchase a cup of coffee, you must take it outside the restaurant. Be warned, during a morning to brunch allotted time period, there is a rush and long waiting times. During our first visit, we waited for over an hour. Feeling discouraged (and hungry!), we almost left. Forunately our name was called and was taken outside in the back in an open patio area. Greatest breakfast/lunch in the city. Hip little spot with creative dishes. Really good coffee! Favorites are the brisket breakfast or the bionic breakfast or the bluebird burrito. If you're used to making a hundred special requests with your meal, this is probably not your place, lots of choices but no substitutions. Don't think I've been to a better brunch place in my life. Everything on the menu is awesome. Shrimp and grits. Biscuits and gravy. Breakfast burrito. You can't go wrong with anything you order. It's pretty popular so sometimes there's a wait but never takes too long. And they aren't open all day which is a drag but if you go later in the morning it clears up and there's no wait. Don't judge a book by its cover. Ria's has got it goen on. If you're a vegetarian you'll love it here (I'm not, I can't stand any of you! which is why I married one apparently). Veggie wraps, tofu scramble, and pancakes is enough to keep a carnivore coming back. That's pretty rare. The brisket breakfast is simply iconic. It reminds me of a Mexican dish called Birria. To make matters worse, they literally just threw the sandwiches in a paper bag. I don't mind minimalist packaging. But this was just disrespectful lol. The Silver Skillet in Atlanta falls firmly into that last category. This place is an old-school Southern diner in all the best ways possible. In fact, we took an early morning flight to Atlanta specifically to make sure we'd get there before they close at 2:00 PM. That's either a testament to how much we enjoy The Silver Skillet or evidence that we need a support group for Southern breakfast food. I'm leaning toward both. It's also been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, which usually gets my attention. But unlike some places that become famous and start coasting on reputation, The Silver Skillet still earns its following the old-fashioned way: by serving really good food. And judging by the walls and the stories, I'm not the only one who thinks so. Over the years, celebrities ranging from Samuel L. Jackson to Charles Barkley and Travis Tritt have eaten here. After this visit, I completely understand why. Whenever I'm in Atlanta, this place has become one of my regular stops. It was exactly what you want Southern comfort food to be: hearty, flavorful, satisfying, and unapologetically indulgent. Nobody orders country fried steak looking for a wellness retreat. I went with their signature country ham served with red gravy, scrambled eggs, and biscuits. Now, if you've never had country ham, understand that this isn't your average breakfast ham. Country ham shows up with attitude. Salty, rich, packed with flavor, and perfectly balanced by the red gravy. Combined with the eggs and biscuits, it was the kind of breakfast that makes you seriously consider canceling the rest of your plans and taking a nap. The atmosphere is part of the charm. It feels authentic because it is authentic. No manufactured nostalgia. No corporate designer trying to recreate a 1950s diner from a Pinterest board. This is the real thing. The Silver Skillet has survived because it knows exactly what it is and executes it well. Solid food. Friendly service. A classic Atlanta institution. And a place that's earned every bit of its reputation. Four stars. When you're willing to schedule a flight around a restaurant's closing time, that's about as strong an endorsement as a breakfast spot can get.
