Haven't been to Rick's in the longest, so I wanted to try out their food again. Bad mistake. The burger itself was good, but the food gave me food poisoning. I'm not sure if it was because of their picked carrots, or if the meat wasn't properly cooked, etc. I accidentally came during closing time, and the cashier didn't even wait till we got our food, she just turned the booth lights off on us... I get it, you want to go home but that was rude. I'm okay giving two stars because the owner was nice enough to suggest that he stay open while we eat. We didn't take the offer because we didn't want to interrupt the closing of the restaurant. But still it was a very kind gesture. Maybe one day I may try this place again, but the odds aren't looking good. read more

The 1/4 burger is a decent size. It's nothing fancy but it's definitely something I can't eat on a daily basis. I got the special which comes with fries and a drink. Prices are reasonable and the staff were pretty friendly. It's not a huge place inside and you can see them grilling when you order. They have breakfast specials and pastrami sandwiches as well. They're not far from where I live so if I don't feel like cooking I'll probably stop here again for a quick bite. read more

Only place I go to for Chili Cheese Fries. Not only is the portion large, the chili has a little kick to it making it all the better. But that's honestly the only thing I'm here for. I've got a gyro here once and it was bigger than I expected. I guess I can say it was alright. Not the BEST gyro I've ever had but it's not like I can expect anything more... it's a burger joint not a Mediterranean restaurant. Another time, I attempted to order a Breakfast Bagel (i think) for my husband and they told me I would have to wait 15-20 minutes for them to make hash browns. So I'm like...okay then well I'll come back. I came back 15 to 20 minutes later and they told me the exact same thing. By then, I was kind of aggravated but I guess I didn't get the point that it was made fresh to order. I misunderstood that they had to make more hash browns. I guess I can't really get mad. I don't normally eat here but there's parking if you do decide to eat at this burger joint. Seating is outdoors and there's two or three benches (not sure). I recommend just going through the drive-thru and take it to-go. Service is a hit or miss. Sometimes they're nice, sometimes not really. Again, it's a burger joint. You get treated the same way you do at McDonald's. It isn't a Five-Star Michelin Restaurant so you get what you pay for. I'll be back when I want some chili cheese fries. read more

Decided to give this place a try since I now live down the street from it. Our usual spot has raised its prices and the quality of food has gone down. For our first time, this place did not disappoint. The husband is a picky eater and he approved of the food. I ordered a "junior" burger combo and it was huge (when compared to our usual spot). The avocado cheeseburger was ginormous! The portions are really good especially when it comes to the asada nachos they don't play around. The place can need little help with the look such as better lighting or even nice music playing in the background (it was too quiet for my liking). My mom and i love there French toast breakfast plate! It's always delicious! Since I was little me and a group of friends would always go and buy some of there chili cheese frys. It was always our little tradition. My family also orders the family pack which comes with 4 hamburgers, 4drinks, frys, onion rings or fried zucchini. We came here since we wanted to try new things, but it was a mistake. As soon as we parked we didnt even know if it was open or not since the lights werent even on. The door handle was full of duck tape. Floors werent swept or mopped. Dont even start with the chairs, about half didnt have seats, and the ones that did, had duck tape with rips. The window frames were filthy, and fans full of dust. The napkin dispensers were sticky, and not even cleaned. The customer service was okay, but at a restaurant, what matters is the cleaness of your business and your staff. To be honest, after seeing the way the place was, and how the staff looked, I threw away the food. showing off how dirty the place looks on the outside now imagine how filthy in dirty will be inside! My coworker goes here and picks up burritos for us at work. Every time she goes, the RUDE heavyset lady gives her a hard time. My coworker is an older Asian woman, with a slight accent. The Rude heavyset lady always gives her or her son a hard time. I really hope it's isn't because they are Asian. The other customers in line were Hispanic, and treated better. That woman needs to fix her nasty attitude or maybe put her to clean the toilets instead. read more

So one morning I decided to try this place. I had a few hours to kill because my car was being serviced at a local mechanic in the area. I wish I had eaten somewhere else aside from this place. When I was ordering my food, they were cleaning the kitchen. One employee was pouring bleach on the floor & using a mop to clean the floor. I asked for some more coffee, the guy handling the mop helped me by pouring more coffee in my cup. How kind of him taking time to fill my cup, the problem is that he didn't wash his hands prior to handling the coffee. Wouldn't you think that the cleaning should of been done after hours or before the breakfast shift so the cleaning chemicals won't be exposed to any kind of food? Another employee was working on the grill cooking some bacon. When they are done cooking the bacon, they put the bacon on top of this blue towel next to the grill to absorb the grease. Oh my goodness, what the hell? I asked for wheat toast, dry no butter please. The lady smothers butter on my toast, enough for four pieces of bread. Lovely. First time here, last time here. The drive thru window is on the passenger side so if you are driving solo, get ready to stretch. They won't. After waiting nearly 10 minutes in my car, they brought my cheeseburger combo. Worst burger ever. The beef patty was so thin it could pass as a tortilla. Never seen such a thin beef patty. Fries were so greasy they dripped through the bag onto my seat. Rick's is the go-to spot whenever I'm not sure what I want to eat. My favorites are the asada nachos, carne asada combo burrito, chili cheese fries, and the old fashioned cheeseburger. They don't skimp on the serving sizes, so come hungry or have someone with you. Instead of using bagged tortilla chips for the nachos, they cut up tortillas and fry those bad boys. If you've never had nachos like that then you're missing out. The chili they have here is completely addictive. Being located in Rosemead means that it isn't completely far-fetched to think they're putting drugs in some of their food. If loving chili cheese fries is wrong, then I don't wanna be right. The food is perfectly proportioned, which is important if you don't like all beans and no meat in your Carne Asada burritos. Rick's isn't trying to be something it isn't. No fusion, foo-foo presentation, or reinventing of the wheel here. Just good old fashioned food at a reasonable price. My one criticism is that the close at 9pm Sunday-Thursday and 10pm Friday and Saturday. It can be a bummer when I get a late night hankering and they've packed it in for the night. I've eaten at Jim's (both the one on Garvey and the other on Valley), The Hat (both the one on Valley and the one on Atlantic), and a few others but Rick's is still my favorite. If rowdy teens and/or homeless folks are not your cup-of-tea, then get the food to go if you have less than a 10 minute drive. Sheriffs are known to be there eating most nights, so tread carefully if you got priors. read more
