This is our 2nd time here and the service was excellent (thank you Nadine). I got the 2 egg plate, and the eggs and hash browns were very good. The eggs had more flavor than most places and the hash browns were nice and crispy. We found out they deep fry their hash browns instead of cooking them in a skillet or flat top grill. So many places you go they are either over cooked and almost burnt or they are almost soggy and you can taste all of the butter or oil they cooked them in. Gross! The Rising Sun makes them just right and I enjoyed them. I also had a Vanilla Latte which was very good. The only thing I was disappointed in was the bacon. It was very greasy, very fatty and small. Next time I will try the sausage. Overall it was very good and we will return. read more

I ordered a breakfast sandwich and coffee to go. I think the breakfast sandwich was fresh with what appears to be high quality sausage and English muffins. Their po boys were delicious. I would like to try lunch for sure. My 3 star is simply because I ordered coffee with cream and sugar. I only had two small creams and there was no sugar so I didn't drink my coffee. Not bad for a little cafe. The atmosphere is nice; clean, plus there is interesting art on the walls. The menu is small, which is surprisingly refreshing. They have board games to play while you wait, so our kids were kept entertained and happy. They don't give much meat with the "2 eggs, meat, toast, and hash brown breakfast" (only one sausage patty given), but it was pretty good. The kids liked the breakfast. Our teenager ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, which came with interesting homemade looking potato chips. The sausage breakfast burrito was very flavorful. The service was friendly and inviting. For a family consisting of Mom, Dad, teen, and toddler (whose meal was shared with Mom), the cost was right at $30. We felt it was a touch on the pricy side, which is why we only gave 4 stars. We have eaten here at least 6 times with friends over the last few months. Generally our table of friends is happy with the food and service. But I have not been so lucky. I have not written a review until today, even though I've been tempted, but today was too much. Not only was my food the last to be served, but the pancakes were cold, the syrup cold and the bacon barely cooked. Really? I sent the bacon back, but didn't bother with the rest. How can a restaurant not serve hot pancakes or if not hot, at least give me hot syrup to make up for it. I told my table today was my last time there. I'm tired of being served a bad meal. read more

I love the atmosphere of this case in the morning. We had coffee and pancakes which were soooo good!! It's quiet and comfy. The service was attentive without being too attentive. :) Local art is hanging around for purchase - so we can support the locals in all kinds of way. TVs hang above the kitchen - they aren't too loud but news runs and keeps you informed. You can tell I like the quiet but kids would be fine at this cafe. Always good. At least always good for breakfasting. A gem of a eatery. I am partial to the BLT with avocado and fancy the fancy coffees. But trying the chicken biscuit to see how it compares to other popular chicken biscuits. Assuming it will be just as tasty. I also love this place because it is always just busy enough. I've had only one meal here, and it was very good. I do wonder, though, as a breakfast place, why they don't offer half-and-half for the coffee? They only had some fake creamer. The coffee is also in a little paper cup, which is odd. But it tasted fine. And there's no Tabasco sauce, so if you like that, you're out of luck. read more

So this place has a really nice feel. A very open and airy atmosphere with plenty of nice decor. The menu is small but the ingredients seem to be all fresh and for the price you can't beat it. Heck I don't even know where you can get a breakfast as good as the one they serve for the same price. I was a little disappointed that my hash browns were not hot, and which is why this place didn't get 5 stars. Other than that the burrito I had was excellent with lots of flavor. Myself, my girlfriend and my best friend have gone to Rising Sun every Saturday for brunch (and sometimes Sundays as well) for the past year straight. There is a reason for this - the food is exceptional and cheap! Everything is made from scratch and to the tedious specifications of the owner Adam's personal recipes. The staff is always friendly, helpful, patient and attentive. The restaurant also has a fully-functioning barista station for all of your espresso related beverage needs! In addition to the barista station, you've got to check out the fresh-baked goods! The fresh-baked cinnamon rolls and cookies will knock your socks off. One of the biggest stand-out things about Rising Sun is this basic but HUGELY important fact: The taste is consistent!! It tastes the same every single time we go in - fresh and delicious! Since Rising Sun is located behind the Cinemark Theater in a tucked-away suburb, a lot of the demographic that comes in to the restaurant tends to be your older church crowd or suburbanites, hence the few unnecessarily poor reviews from people who most likely went one time and have no room to complain. I'll make this review direct; the hostess was really kind; she thought to get my toddler blocks to play with so we didn't have to chase him around. The atmosphere was ok; there was no background music playing, but the art wall was nice. I would've liked the pancakes, but they didn't have maple syrup. I think most southerners notice the difference? Instead I got a veggie egg scramble. It was so greasy. I thought I'd be getting a fresh dish, but it was mostly cheese, not much egg. Cook and server apparently didn't communicate well and order was wrong, therefore Hash browns were so overcooked that you couldn't eat them and eggs were drowned in salt. We held a Wedding rehearsal dinner at Rising Sun on 8/15/14. We had originally chosen another restaurant in the area where we would have had a side room that everytime we went back to visit became less and less attractive. At Rising Sun, we got the whole restaurant. It is beautifully decorated. It has beautiful walnut topped tables. The restrooms are spotless. The owners let you know they appreciate your business. The servers are friendly and excellent. Most of all the food was great. For anyone doing a wedding at Ashton Gardens (which is a beautiful venue), I would recommend this place for a Rehearsal dinner. This is an isolated event but needed to share. Our server today was not friendly AT ALL. This is my favorite place to come and have a BLT (can't beat it) but the interaction and the staff sitting around from customer perspective was very off putting. Not to mention I sat there and watched my server redo her hair while sitting at the bar top and then proceeded to hop down from her chair and go grab our food without stopping to wash her hands. The phone rang multiple times with 4 employees sitting doing nothing before anyone answered it. In a small town this behavior may be acceptable but in Denton, for a small business owner, you have to really set yourself apart (positively). If I were the owner I would have been furious to see my staff through this customer's eyes. I had stopped in a few times and tried some of their fresh treats and had knew I had to try their lunch! I brought a colleague with me and decided to get a mushroom Swiss burger. Of course, I made some moderations to my dish. I'm just not an easy customer, I admit it. But, our waitress was so terrific. She was: patient, kind, and a wonderful up-seller. Major props to her! The food was great! The mushrooms weren't the canned stuff and they were the mushrooms I've had on a burger in a while. The owner talked with us and gVe us some recommendation for local activities. I went in and the staff was friendly enough the server recommended the tuscan chicken sandwich or something , any way it had sundried tomatoes and pesto on it it was ok,, the chicken I could tell was some bulk chicken breast patty probably from Sysco or BenEKeith which is fine I guess but maybe tenderize it a little pound it out some,, season it a bit, something ,, the pesto and tomatoes were ok it wasn't worth 8.99 given the type of patty they used ,, my biggest problem is when the guy asked if I wanted fries or chips. he made it sound like a choice , not that the fries were going to be 2.50 extra ,, and the meager portion I received for the extra cost was very disappointing the ticket said "medium" if that's medium I hate to see the small. and they put chips in my oreder anyway,, which onr might think hey what a bonus but these flavorless potato planks weren't that good ,, all in all with the tea my meal was 14 dollars !!! burger time machine gives you a fat burger fries and a drink for ten,, I went ahead and paid because I didn't wanna cause a scene,, but I felt swindled on the fries ands the 9 dollar sandwich should've been six dolllars at the most that meal should've been maybe nine dollars I felt bad not tipping but I got it to go and if it was nine or ten not FOURTEEN I might have tipped a little . this place was the café duluxe before and it didn't make it and I don't see this place making it either ,, maybe they do better at breakfast ,, read more

Just south of 35 access road back behind a Chuy's (I think). Small, simple menu with breakfast lunch and dinner options as well as some baked goods. Nice paintings on side wall by local artist(s) to enjoy while you dine. I think our first server was a little flaky as he kept forgetting our drinks, but did finally bring coffee. I ended up going to the front bar to get some waters. A different server brought our food and yet another cleared our table. Everyone was really friendly. I had standard eggs, sausage (meat option that came with) and hash browns and toast. The hash browns were almost like those super skinny French fries but very good. Toast was also wonderful. My friend's breakfast sandwich would have been good except it came with some sort of bakery items that were rolled in cinnamon and sugar and it made the sausage egg and cheese biscuit taste like cinnamon :/ maybe put those on a different plate? It seems like a new place from the area and decor so I'm sure they will work thing out moving forward. read more

First time and the breakfast was delicious. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. The bacon was thick and crispy and the scrambled eggs were well seasoned and not over cooked. The hash browns were shredded thin and were crispy which was different but I loved it. There was not long wait for the food after it was ordered which was great because I was in a hurry. Everytging else was quite a bit of a wait so we tried this place. It's new and off the square so worth a shot. The breakfast menu is tiny, be prepared like 6 items tiny, but if you're the kind of person that no matter where you go you get eggs, toast, meat this is a fine menu. The food came out hot and the biscuits are yummy. The hash browns are deep fried and almost uneatable they are so crunchy. Not my thing it might be yours. The staff is in need of training but it's new so maybe they just need some time to get their legs. The one thing that will make me not come back is that they use styrofoam cups for everything. It's a waste of trash and completely unnecessary. I would beg the owner to switch to reusable cups for those dining in and paper for those who want Togo. read more
