My family and I decided to try this place out for lunch today. It's a little mom and pop place off of Route 66. We ordered burgers, bean and cheese burritos and chicken strip meals. The food at Romo's never disappoints us. Today we have Nachos Supreme and a Navaho Taco. Both were freshly prepared and tasty. The server was prompt and attentive to our order. Chips and salsa added a tasty start to our lunch. The restaurant is old but kept very clean. The restrooms were also clean. Parking is conveniently located behind the building. We will definitely be back when we visit Holbrook. read more

Tip: I was told, on Wednesdays they have a taco special going all day so they are not serving breakfasts. That said, I had shredded beef tacos for breakfast on Wednesday and they were delicious. The red salsa with the chips (light and crispy) had just the right amount of spice, and the beans and rice didn't disappoint. Even the iced tea was good. It took a while, the AC was freezing, and the salsa they bring with the chips was inedibly hot (for a gringo w/ moderate chili heat tolerance), but I was never so sad as when I had to decline to keep the rest of that beautiful beef chimichanga because we were on the road. The burger is a nice sized amazingly seasoned hand formed patty, really really good with delicious cheese, couldn't tell the cheese type but who cares when it's so delicious, maybe a mild cheddar? The first day I got the Navajo taco, which is delicious ground beef with cheese and red or green sauce, or both on a delicious piece of Navajo bread. It's served like a tostada and is very good. The place gets a lot of business, people from Holbrook are in and out all day. Super friendly and attentive service. Food is Good, getting a bit Pricy though, Service is the worst , if you only have a 30 min lunch break, I wouldn't recommend, even an Hour lunch is cutting it Close, Service so slow, that Molasses would melt off the roof faster in the Middle of winter , they need to update their tables and chairs .. read more

They took me in an hour after closing. After traveling from White Sands New Mexico I was like a homeless pup looking for a good meal. Its not a fancy place but it felt warm, cozy and humble. I can tell this was a family oriented local place as I heard the staff call out customers by their name. I ordered the red sauce chilli enchiladas and in it came out at a good timing. I saw it coming from a distance ... rich in color, sizzling and sprinkling droplets of flavors into the air. As it made its way to my table it's hard to miss that delicious red sea of sauce and baked cheese on top. The tortillas some how keep their bind, the meat flavorful and to top it off a crispy layer of rice makes it to my plate. This is by far of the best late night meals I've ever had. I thank the wonderful and amazingly beautiful waitress (or maybe could have been the owner) that took me in. She made my night. read more

This quaint little hideaway of a cafe on historic Route 66 is a gem of a place. The decor is super cute, the staff friendly and welcoming, and the food is spectacular! I was looking forward to authentic Mexican food on our visit to the southwest and Romo's did not disappoint. The portions are frankly enormous - you will not leave here hungry, I promise! - and the flavour is absolutely divine. Just the right amount of spicy - though I tend to lean toward preferring spicy food. The layers of flavour were what got me though. It isn't just spice that burns your mouth and leaves you numb, it's a wonderful combination of flavours that rockets you through the dish with pleasure. This is clearly a neighborhood favourite and was crowded even though we were there at a slightly off-standard time. We noticed that some tables had been reserved ahead of time, and this might be a good idea if you are coming at peak hours or have a large party. read more

Fantastic food and good service. The place is a little hard to find while driving in the dark, and the parking lot is kind of a mess (potholes), but once you get inside the atmosphere was great. The food was authentic and margarita was delicious. Would want to revisit based on the food alone - try the red and green chili sauce! The big negative was on safety during COVID - we wore our masks in while being seated and got side eye from other patrons and some staff. The servers seemed to wear their masks when they helped us, but I wonder if that is not the usual practice. read more

Wow, what a great find. Stopped in town looking for a bite to eat and decided to try Romo's. My kind of place, not fancy not a dive just authentic. Very friendly staff. Chips and salsa were good. One salsa was absolutely amazing and only served on Friday had chunks of tomato and jalapeños, so yum. I couldn't help looking at other people meals as they were delivered. Great portions and all looked so tasty I wanted to try everyone of them even though I wasn't super hungry this day. Our food arrived and we were completely satisfied. Anyone traveling east or west on I-40 should give lots of consideration for this amazing restaurant. I know I will always come back while being in this area. It's really very good. read more

Stopped into Romo's Cafe in Holbrook. The small looking quaint place looked full so we were about to leave when the little Gal came out and let us know she had room for us. Nacho special, Chile relleno dinner and a chicken sandwich later had us absolutely satisfied. This is our new go to place for lunch. I absolutely love Mexican food and live in an area of California that has countless Mexican restaurants. I wish Romo's was in my hometown or at least close so I could frequent it. I had a beef chimichanga and it was truly the best chimichanga I have ever had and it was loaded with what seems like a 2 pound roast. The flavors of the meat and sauces were incredible. If you aren't a real big eater, I would suggest possibly sharing a meal. My wife had a margarita and they didn't short her on the tequila. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. read more

A nice place to eat in Holbrook family oriented. The staff are friendly and accommodating. It's got that small-town feel to it but an old route 66 you will see all types of people in their locals ranch hands vaqueros, seniors travelers. The food is good they give you chips and salsa with a kind of choice between a spicy fresh salsa and a regular kind of blended salsa both are great and included in your lunch which is a nice small town touch, I had the burger and it was like one that I would make for myself the meat comes from a local ranch and is very good. The grind and make their own almost every day. It's a nice pleasant place to have lunch and I would imagine dinner is great there as well. They do have some alcoholic beverages buy bottle but I wasn't really interested in just had water and ice tea. read more

The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful here, but unfortunately, the food just didn't hit the mark. We were hopeful that the food would be great here because it is one of the highest-rated restaurants in town, but the tacos and the chimichanga that we ordered were both really bland--a major letdown. This place might not have much of a food focus because it's just a casual family restaurant in a small, quiet town, so if you're looking to eat something really special, I recommend you head elsewhere. They have a sign on door saying be patient they are short staffed which is fine. We patiently waited for our food until a table that came in thirty minutes after us got there food before us. We got up and walked out at that point. The bad part was I think the owner came out of the kitchen and took there order and rushed there food over everyone else in the restaurant. Delicioso!! Wow, Romo's. OG Mexican Fare. I have lived in Arizona most of my life and have been tasting Mexican food all around the west coast. My partner and I ordered a combination plate and a chicken chimichange. Food was extremely hot and fresh with just the perfect amount of spice. Cheese was ideally melted and the chimi had a beautiful crunch. Guacamole and sour cream was like from friends' abuelitas. I cannot wait to come back. Jim Ross and Jerry McClanahan's book, "EZ 66" recommended this place as one travels along Route 66. We could not pass it by, since my husband shares the surname! It was busy when we arrived and stayed busy the whole time we were there.. Obviously the locals love this restaurant! Taco salad was fresh and crisp, Navajo taco was as promised, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Neither of us could not eat the whole thing! High recommendation from this traveler passing through, and I hope you all will stop there for breakfast, lunch or dinner as you travel the Mother Road--or any other time you are in the vicinity! read more

I definitely walked in here with much higher expectations based on the other yelp reviews. That being said, I am rather surprised this place has more than three stars. Apparently people in this area haven't had great Mexican food. The salsa is terrible. It's not even salsa. It's tomato sauce with jalepeno mixed in. It tastes more like pizza sauce than salsa. The burrito I got was pretty terrible too. I was supposed to get a chicken burrito but they mixed in some boiled beef with it which tasted terribly. And the chicken was super old meat. It was dry and crusty like it had been cooked the day before. Then to top off my awesome experience up to this point they charge me $.75 as a "convenience fee". When I mentioned that they never mentioned that to me, a woman whom I can only assume is the owner told me that the signs are posted everywhere. There was only one sign that I saw and it was on the countertop where I went to pay. I never saw that sign until I went to pay because they told me to have a seat as soon as I walked in. $14.11 for a crappy burrito and some crappy salsa for my chips. I would never return to this place if somebody paid me to. The owners here need to go to an actually good Mexican restaurant and try their food and get rid of a $.75 transaction fee for a debit card or credit card usage. That's bull crap. read more

AWFUL!! AWFUL!! BLEH!! I ordered a bean burrito Christmas-style with no cheese. Waitress brings me my order with cheese. She takes my order to replace it only to find out there's meat in the green chile. The first order had no visible signs of meat. I could not eat it. The beans taste like water and the red chile was bland with a kick. Then I had to pay half ($5.31) of a bad burrito I barely touched because it was my second order. The first one the waitress screwed up. The salsa was even worse. Watered down tomato soup with some red chili peppers mixed in. These people have never had good Mexican food. If you think this is good food then you have never tasted good Mexican food. Never again. Go some where else. This is crap! read more

We were in Holbrook for one night and wanted a casual, family friendly Mexican restaurant. Holbrook is not a big town so our options were limited. The reviews seemed decent so we gave Romo's a try. It's not very big yet about the same size of the other places in Holbrook. We were seated immediately and although it appeared there were only two employees, our order was taken quickly too. The food is pretty good. The red chili was a little light on meat yet ok nonetheless. The enchiladas were good yet sauce heavy and had a good kick.
