We went to Romo's for lunch as a stopping point between Winslow, AZ and the Petrified Forest/Painted Desert National Park. We entered Romo's no one helped us or greeted us. We sat at a table and it took 15 minutes or the waitress to notice us and it was only after we grabbed menus ourselves by the cash register. The menu had both breakfast and lunch on it. We wanted breakfast but the waitress said they are no longer offering breakfast on Wednesdays.?! Then our food took over an hour to be served. The waitress did apologize - but it was not her fault. I ordered the Burrito Enchilada Style with Green Sauce. It was just ok. We also got the beef tacos on special, again just ok. Not our favorite spot. read more

This place is seriously legit. The food is delicious, and super spicy. Honestly, hotter than any Mexican food I've had in LA, and we didn't ask for hot. So def not for the faint of palate!! Service also rocked - we got food to go, but still were treated as special as though we were dining in. We were brought chips and deeeelish spicy salsa (can you tell we love hot things?!?), had a couple beers, and were given free sopapillas by what we guessed may be the owner. Stopped here on a road trip in the age of COVID-19 for the good reviews and wanted to get some good southwestern Mexican food. However, despite multiple posted signs saying they were only doing takeout and delivery, there were several tables occupied inside with people eating, and the employee behind the counter didn't care to wear a mask (as required by state mandate), and brushed off customers coming in for takeout that wore masks. On top of this disregard for public safety, the food was very boring and the hot sauce just tasted like slightly spicy Italian marinara. Would not recommend to anyone. When passing though AZ we decided to stop and take a break to get some beverages and desert. They were super busy and it did take a minute to get service but they guy working was super sweet and was keeping up the best he could. I ordered a margarita and when he brought it out he wanted me to assure him I liked it or he would make another. It was delicious. As someone who believes customer service is essential to the dine in experience, they did great! The sopaipilla was in need of some cinnamon but we still enjoyed it. We had dine-in service after being in the car on a long trip. Yay! Distanced tables were cleaned after each customer, and servers were masked and gloved. The green chili relleno was outstanding. Chili hamburger was an open face burger on bread smothered with chili, red or green. Hamburger steak smothered with chili with beans and rice was tasty. Large meat patty. Cheese enchiladas were okay. This place is the best! Great Mexican food and friendly staff. Please be aware that everything is cooked to order, so you will usually have a long wait (15-20min) as there are not a lot of staff working there due to the pandemic. Don't let that deter you, though. It is WORTH IT. I recommend the cheese enchiladas; but I'm sure you can't go wrong with whatever you order at this restaurant. read more

This place was great! Ok, so the food was just good, solid Mexican food that you'd expect to find at a well reviewed restaurant in the southwest. I would give it 4 stars for the food. Not amazing, but yummy and satisfied my craving for good Mexican food after being in the Midwest for a couple of weeks. The real thing that made this place shine was the staff. When we walked in around 5pm there were about 20 people dining or waiting to dine and only one server. After we were seated it just kept filling up. Many folks seemed to be locals as the staff knew their names and/or orders upon their arrival. Always a good clue when you're at the spot where the locals go. Anyways, the one guy working the floor and one lady expediting/taking phone orders and getting drinks totally killed it. By the time we left there had to be around 35-40 people in the restaurant and the guy was running around getting everything taken care of with ease. We felt like we got all of the attention we needed. They both had great attitudes and did a great job. I don't know if they were understaffed or if that was a normal night there, but if we ever roll through Holbrook, AZ again I know where we'll be eating. read more

I ordered the green chili enchilada dinner. 2 shredded beef and 1 chicken enchilada with green chili sauce, rice and beans on the side. The food was good, a little too salty for me, but still good. The staff was friendly and quick. Nice place to stop while traveling along Route 66 or while in Holbrook. read more

The service was not the best, but I don't want to blame the server because it seems like they were short staffed and you never know what's going on that you don't see. We waited a long time for our food despite there not being many people in the restaurant, but the food was pretty good. I ordered the fried chicken but there was a mistake and I got the chicken fried steak instead. I didn't think it was worth waiting all that time again so I had the chicken fried steak and I thought it was good. I don't have complaints really, I just feel bad, they need more staff read more

This place has amazing food! We arrived for a late lunch after visiting the Petrified Forest and were welcomed by two women who seem to do everything there. The place was full of locals and we obviously were from out of town, but everyone was friendly and my family had a great meal. We all six ordered from the Mexican menu and since I'm Dad I got to try most of everything ;-). It was all fantastic! We stopped in traveling through looking for a good lunch, we did not find it here. To start the welcome was not warm and the menu not intuitive. After some discussion we decided on burritos with the green chili on the inside as we were driving, this was discussed with the server/hostess. I ordered the bean and cheese burrito with green chili inside, pretty simple it seems. We received our 3 burritos, all different, none marked and proceeded to open each to decipher the contents, less than ideal. Fast forward to the bean and cheese and it was not rolled well and at least 25% of the contents are OUTSIDE the tortilla, a huge mess and far less than ideal when driving. Oh! And there was no cheese! Yep, bean and cheese burrito with no cheese... Seriously, how hard is it to get a 2 ingredient burrito right? The beans were straight out of a can at best. I did have the privilege of paying over 6 bucks for this (sorta) hot mess that I tossed out at the next stop, luckily I had a packaged bar that I ate instead, likely avoiding multiple trips to the bathroom. Maybe if you are a local you get decent food and service, I will never know. You are better off with the microwave burrito or, roller dog at the truck stop Keep looking. Apathy reigns. read more

This food was fantastic! Everything that's great about New Mexican food, but in Arizona and with much better flavor. Had the green chili stew and green chili enchiladas. Food came out hot! So many restaurants bring food out at a gross medium temperature. If you like Mexican food and can handle a moderate level of spice you'll love this! I liked it here, we had Mexican dishes, so good on Old Route 66, the mother road, just down the street from the WigWam hotels. The decor is nice and the front door is tight, makes alot of noise, coming and going. Tasty food in this small town. The Indian people are so very gorgeous, i love America! read more

It took my family a solid 5+ minutes to be helped when they weren't even busy. The women that were working were very nice, but seemed like they did not know what they were doing. The menus are very off putting as they are extremely faded and some are pretty sticky or just gross looking. If I had to guess, the burritos here are pre made or frozen because I asked to add rice to mine and they said they couldn't do that. I've worked at restaurants before where we can't make alterations because the food is delivered to us a certain way. While the food was better than I expected, it was pretty bland and watery. The staff may be friendly, but I would save your money and get Taco Bell instead, honestly. read more

Horrible. We were the only ones waiting to get their food and it took over 30 minutes. My husband's hashbrowns were covered in black pepper and his toast was only buttered on 1 piece. I ordered chili rellenos ( which should have been superb at a Mexican family restaurant) and she initially said it was American but actually went back to the kitchen to check and clarified it was cheddar- which I already knew. I told her that EVERY time I had had Chile rellenos it was made with Mexican cheese. She said she didn't know there was even a Mexican cheese, surprised when I listed 3 common ones. When I complained I was told "I'm sorry" in a sing song voice with no trace of sincerity. The manager at our motel had recommended them. We came here while passing through for dinner the other day. Our server was very friendly, and although it took a while for our food to come out, everything was very good! We enjoyed the chips and salsa-it had a little bit of a kick to it and it was thick like marinara sauce, but I really enjoyed it and even the kids did. Although it was dinner time, they were still able to make me the Huevos Rancheros from the breakfast menu, and I got it with green sauce and rice, instead of beans. The rice was made with tomatoes, and I thought it was fantastic. Eggs were over easy, just how I like them, the giant pita was great, and the green chile sauce was very good. I didn't care for the hash browns (too too much salt and pepper), but everything else was so filling, it made no difference. read more

After exploring Petrified Forest all morning, we came out to Holbrook looking for food. We came to Romo's after our first and second choice for food was closed. Upon our arrival the restaurant was about 2/3 full with 1 server. She was seriously hustling to check on the tables. Surprisingly we were in and out in about 40 minutes. We were stopping in, hungry from a day of road tripping. When we arrived, we were confused--no signs indicated if we were to seat ourselves or if there was a hostess. I had to go up to the cash register. The server said it would be about ten minutes. We weren't offered menus to look at. We waited and waited. When we were finally seated, our drink orders were taken. It took ten minutes to get our drinks and chips and salsa. They seemed overwhelmed and understaffed. As we looked at the menu, we felt like we were being punished--no free refills, charges for substitutions, etc. When we finally ordered our food, we were preparing for the worst. When our food arrived, it was piping hot. The food was the best part of the experience: pretty good Tex Mex. I've had better and I've had worse. I got the Nachos Special. It almost burned my mouth for the first couple of minutes. My Diet Dr. Pepper did not taste right. My boyfriend got the Taco Plate and said the rice was mushy. We're from Texas, so we eat Mexican rice pretty often. The most off-putting part of the experience was that the server did not check on us ONCE while we were dining. Not to ask if we enjoyed the food, not to refill our drinks--not at all. When we went to pay, we waited at least ten minutes-the check was not brought to our table and we were left to "figure out" that we needed to go up to pay. No one asked us how the meal was or told us thanks for coming or apologized for the wait. They just took the money and ran. read more

Food was awesome! I had a half Navajo taco and it was more than I could eat. I started with a prickly pear margarita with their chills and salsa. Their special salsa(which I found out they usually only serve on Fridays and today is Thursday) was probably the best I've ever had! This is the first time I reviewed a restaurant before I actually taste of the food. I just know this is a Pretty Awesome Spot in Holbrook Route 66. We're getting the chili rellenos with some green chili sauce. Chilling out with my beautiful wife. I know in the food that we're going to get is going to be awesome.
