I probably wouldn't have picked a vegan coffee shop as my go to, but I like ordering the drinks with weird names and trying to figure out what they mean. Super cute spot, employees are great, food is great. I go w my dog and my big ass double stroller and I love that the ordering window is curbside and they bring the order out so I can go for a nice walk, get my coffee and my donut, stay out of everyone's way and keep moving. Donuts were super good. My friend really liked the coffee mousse parfait I got her. I was not a huge fan of the waffles. I believe it's because they are gluten free. The consistency was weird but I've never had GF waffles so I was not sure what to expect. I would like to try their avocado toast sometime. I came here for lunch with my two kids, ages 8 and 9. They each ordered avocado toast and fruit teas and I got the chickpea wrap. All of the food was delicious! We also tried the plant-based yogurt parfait and it was amazing. It can be hard to find kid-friendly vegan food that adults also enjoy so I am really pleased! This will be our go-to place whenever we are in the area! Also, we haven't tried the vegan donuts, yet, so obviously we have to come back! read more

This review is just based off their matcha latte. The matcha didn't taste like high quality matcha and there were lots of clumps especially toward the end which was kind of gross. Was certainly disappointed with that $6 drink. The coffee drinks may be better. I liked that they have a ton of different milks to choose from (even pea based milk). Else it's a small cute shop but would only recommend for takeout. They have a 1-2 benches for seating inside and a couple of stools outside but you'll sit pretty much right in front of Car hoods. They tried to make it nicer with some decor on the wood fence but meh... Not nice to catch up with a friend. read more

My god! I'm so addicted to this place. Fortunately, they have 2 locations, one in Pleasant Hill and One in WC. The food is amazing and the staff are always so friendly. You can't go wrong with any of their food or drink option. My go to is the avocado dream toast. Its creamy always fresh and yummy! It's my go to. Prices were steep for what you get. Ordered a chai latte which tasted watered down. Also got the classic waffle and a grilled cheese. The grilled cheese was barely "grilled" and definitely not worth $6. The waffle tasted stale and grainy but the fruit on it was good. Such a cute café! I was just searching for coffee while I was in the area, found this on yelp. Decided to try it out. Thankfully when I got there I was the only person in line but I had to wait a while to put my order in. Soon after there was a line starting to form. This place must be popular. I guess order ahead? But I only got a coffee... extra dirty chai Matcha oat latte to be exact.They did a job but still kind of pricey for a 12 ounce. I guess the waffles look popular? I ordered a nitro coffee with lavender sweetener and it was really good and a loaded grilled cheese which was really good as well, it wasn't as "grilled cheesy" as I would have thought. It was more like a veggie sandwich and I'm not a fan of hard bread so I should have told them to not toast the bread and it took a long time though so that's why I took away a star. read more

Busy Sunday morning but not entirely surprised. Was told it would take about 25-30 mins to get the coffee and food, so I'm hoping it was worth the wait. All of our items came out within 10 mins! I'm a nurse so anything nitro, I'm all in. 3 sips in and man...I'm up! The avocado dream is amazing as well, creamy goodness in every bite. Vegan, plant based and organic (when possible) This little coffee shop is my favorite in the area. The Space: A clean, small, lovely place. It's equipped with a all genders bathroom that has a changing table for babies. It also has a small seating area when you walk in with toys and books for kids to enjoy. The rest of the seating consists of tables and chairs along the window and during nice weather they block off some of the parking lot to set up tables and chairs. I wouldn't highly recommend Rooted as a place to bring your laptop and do some work, but definitely a place to catch up with a friend or 2. The Menu: A great selection of coffees and non-coffee drinks. Their milks are all plant based (from what I've noticed the brands they use rotate) they even have a delicious golden milk! All the food and baked goods are vegan, GET A WAFFLE No they're not cheap, you're looking at $26-$30 for 2 people to each have a drink and something to eat, but they are worth the prices! The Service: everyone who works their is always so nice, they get through a link quick and leave a pretty design in your beverage which always seems to make me happy, I don't know what it is. The coffee is decent, they will overcharge you even when you order off the menu, my menu drink was listed at $5.75 but they added extra syrups charges on all our drinks even though we ordered it direct from the menu no changes. skip all the food unless you don't mind overpaying for small portions of food and waffles that come out of the same $10 krusteaz waffle iron you have at home. Among the other things ordered was the BP and nana which is supposed to be peanut butter with bananas and a agave syrup on some fresh bread what you really get is a small piece of bread and some peanuty syrup drizzled on your bread with a few banana slices. My wife got the hummus toast and it was terrible. The service is also slow and when it's busy they will take orders from people behind you when you are at the register and when it's the same day they choose to train a cashier that means you'll have people waiting behind you get their drinks way before you. I have never been disappointed with the food or drinks at Rooted. Always leave with a smile and a full belly of delicious plant based food! Sometimes yes, the food and drinks take a few minutes longer than expected but when I sit there outside on the handcrafted tables, I realize this is a small business and all these people are taking their time with each customer to make sure they are getting what they came for, delicious food and a nice experience in a family friendly environment. If I was in a rush I would just make coffee and toast at home but when I want an experience and great home-made style food that is good for me and the planet, I am willing to wait a few extra minutes. Having said that.... the place was busy and there was a buzz. Coffee is good.... I was dubious about having oat milk but I was told by friends it is better than soy.... the were correct. Timeless coffee is still my favorite, and it's a bit out of the way for me, but these are minor niggles. You need to visit here. We love this place and are so happy it has opened a brick and mortor near us. I wish that it had more food options, but I am happy so far with what I have had there. I hope they can open another location with more seating or work out a more permanent outdoor seating arrangement. They have compostable containers, great service, very busy but the lines go fast, and friendly staff. We have ordered a lot on the menu and highly recommend the following: Mexican mocha, Brewed coffee,Classic waffle, Coconut and almond half and half, Avocado smash toast ( Next trip we had) lavendar latte, cornbread waffle and p b n nana toast. Harvest summer waffle special was so gooood too! I saved some notes after a few trips to give this review so there is a lot, but we have really enjoyed continuing to go back. I was only passing through for a bit and needed a pick-me-up. They have interestingly flavored coffees. I got the lavender latte and my girlfriend got a vanilla rose latte. They were both delicious, although I liked the lavender better. You can't go wrong with either. The atmosphere in the cafe is precious. The decor is minimal but keep in mind the space is pretty tight. I would recommend it for light reading and not studying. read more

Apparently avocado toast is rare around the Concord area which led my girlfriend to Rooted. After her first visit she said it's worth the trip. Location-wise, I think they're in a great location because even though they aren't in a super foot-traffic area they consistently had customers coming in on a Wednesday morning. This place is very cute! Great customer service, delicious food!!! we got the classic waffle and avocado toast. The boys ordered grilled cheese avocado. They get a 4 star because they forgot the avocado. Instead of making a new one properly, they offered to just give it to us on the side and all should be fine. Not really when you have hungry boys and they preferred it inside. We didn't want to be difficult customers or have to wait so we just opt in for the side. (That's why the 4 stars) We also ordered the americano with macadamia milk. It was good, the barista tried to make cute designs. Pretty basic, but I'm sure over time, she'll get better and better. I went here about two weeks ago and kept forgetting to write a review for this place. First off, I want to say that the concept of this place is really awesome! They are so accommodating for folks who are solely plant based in their diet and or preferences. I came here for coffee and they have so many milk option, it's kinda nuts! I also ended up ordering a cashew yogurt parfait which was the bomb! Simple in ingredients but really well put together. I think there were strawberries and toasted granola in it. While waiting for my drink, I noticed that the barista on bar did not purge the steam wand after each use for about 3-4 drinks in a row. They did wipe the outside of the wand, but did not clear out any possible residual milk on the inside of the wand. Given that everything is plant based, it is less of a concern for people who are allergic to dairy, but bacteria does build up and maybe the person before me had a latte with soy milk, which I could have been allergic too (the soy). That was a point of concern for me, but I tend to give the benefit of the doubt and assume the barista might be new. Either way, good hygiene practices are important to me when handling people's drinks and or food. In regards to the coffee, I got a golden milk matcha (i think) with oat milk, which was one of the specials at the time. On the sign, a tip for the drink was to "add espresso" which I did not do. Seeing that, I had assumed that there was no coffee type product in my drink -just milk, spices, and matcha. I was in a slight hurry to go, so I got my drink and left and didn't bother to taste it in the shop. After finally getting to taste my drink, I took a couple of sips and it seemed to have a strong coffee flavor. I'm not sure if there was none in there at all, but I should have asked in store. It also seemed a bit turmeric heavy. Adding some more sweetener at home helped. I'm thinking I got a drink that wasn't for me, and that I should try something else next time. This store looks like it is headed in the right direction and I hope to be back soon. read more

It's really difficult to find a plant based business that doesn't feel the need to substantially mark up prices or over advertise that fact. Finally made it to Rooted this morning! Though I've tried a few of their items before (brought to work by co-workers and when they used to be at Walnut Creek's Farmers Market), it was great to make it to their new place. The coffee shop is small. There's not a lot of room if you're looking for a place to meet with a group or even work for a few hours. However, the food, coffee, and staff will not disappoint. Being lactose intolerant makes it that I usually can't enjoy most places' top sellers. Not at Rooted! Being fully plant base, I can order anything from the menu without the fear of getting sick afterwards. And their food is delicious!!! Also, oat milk latte for the win!!
