If you like long lines and sub-par coffee, Rooted is for you! I used to love going to get a Rooted cold brew or chai from the Walnut Creek farmers market. It was quick, easy and a good pick me up for Sunday morning errands. But their brick and mortar location brought in sooo much more traffic, which is great business for them, but terrible for someone who doesn't like to wait in over hyped lines for food. I'll give them another try someday (any possibly try some food since other reviews rate that well). I would definitely recommend this place if your diet is veggie based, but if you are a dairy drinker... the long wait in line doesn't make it worth your time. read more

I was thrilled when I saw a local coffee shop open up nearby. This area is in dire need of more. I feel Rooted is good...don't treat 3-stars as a negative. I just feel they have some kinks to work out. Which is typical of most new establishments. First, they are vegan. I feel like you need to know that. Which....whatever. It's California. But I prefer real cream and milk in my coffee and cappuccinos. Water-based alternatives don't do the trick and mess with the flavor of the beans. Just a personal preference. Second, the music was so flipping loud everyone was yelling to carry a conversation. It got to the point where I couldn't wait to get out of there. I'm fine with louder-than-normal music. But when it's small, crowded and you have to add the yelling of 3 or 4 other conversations, it was just too much. On to the positives... The coffee is top-notch. Well roasted and full bodied. Held up well to the fake milk...but lesson learned, I'll get it plain next time. The avocado toast is fantastic. It was the highlight of the visit. Contrary to my hating of fake milk in coffee, I didn't mind the cashew cream cheese as a base to what seemed like a full Avocado sliced beautifully on top, sprinkled with salt and red pepper flakes. I look forward to going back just for the avocado toast. In the end, come for the coffee, stay for the food, leave for the music. read more

Giving this place five stars because I had absolutely no issues with my order or experience. I got an iced macadamia milk latte, and the avocado toast. I'm a coffee connoisseur lol and I can definitely say my coffee was made well and correctly. The barista even went as far as mixing the espresso shot that was sitting on top of the milk and made sure my latte looked like a latte and not a macchiato. The avocado toast was tasty fresh, and they were generous with the amount of avocado added. It was pretty pricy for my meal a little over $15. But as they say, you get what you pay for. Had I not gotten the quality that I paid for, that would have been a different story. But so far so good! I will be back ! read more

Finally got to the farmers market early specifically to try this waffles everyone raves about. The paleo "the weekender" with mini choc chips and sliced bananas. It was so good I went back & got another one for myself! Both my 7 & 10 year old liked it too. A healthy waffle that tastes good too? Yes please! I also tried a dirty iced chai and it wasn't my thing. However, I only took about 4 drinks and accidentally left it somewhere while buying produce so that was a bummer. Service was great and given that my food was made fresh when i ordered, the online ordering ahead of time was perfect. Interesting coffee- tried the Cardamom Maple Latte. At first, I wasn't liking the latte. I think the cardamom was too radical a departure from my normal no frills latte, but it grew on me. I'll try Lavender next time. Delicious Avocado Toast! I had it made as described on the menu with the chili flakes and everything. They were a surprising kick in random bites. I love their roast, I'll definitely be getting that again. The Avocado Dream..... I die! It's incredible! Best avocado toast I've had. The sourdough bread is incredible! Stopped by this place after a walk and it lived up to my expectations! I normally get a cold brew or a soy latte when I got to coffee houses, but decided to try a latte here. I Had a cardamom maple latte iced which was delicious (it was a dollar extra to have it iced). I suggest asking for half sweet if you don't normally have fancy lattes with syrup. My meal (avocado dream- make it snappy) was also very satisfying and tasted so fresh! Can't wait to be in the area again and try out other items on the menu! My family buys their coffee, so that's all we drink at home, and then at the market on Sundays we enjoy waffles with all the assorted toppings. When Rooted opened up down the street from our house, it was like our prayers had been answered. We're coffee snobs and enjoy all the typical hipster coffee joints in the Bay Area (Philz, Blue Bottle, Four Barrel, Sightglass, etc). Rooted makes a GREAT cup of coffee that has its own distinct flavor that sets it apart from other similar places. I had the drip coffee and my wife had the lavender latte. The vibe was fantastic - community orientated and friendly staff with an authentic feel. None of that corporate feel that some of the other artisan coffee places give off. It feels good to support this business because the owners are local and active members of the community. And the food is really a nice addition. We had waffles and avocado toast. I've come here just once so far since they opened and was blown away. Came with the bf and shared a crumb donut, blueberry scone, a chunky monkey smoothie and churro latte. They're located to the center of the market just north of the corner of Locust and Cole. They always have several kinds of coffee ready to be brewed. I'm always ordering their Sumatran Coffee. The other thing worth noting is that they brew each cup as its ordered - how cool is that. I recently started ordering their waffles. They have vegan and paleo options. I've ordered the paleo waffle with peanut butter, bananas and fresh strawberries, and I was not disappointed. Being new to the world of paleo I definitely had some doubts that were dashed after the first couple bites of the waffle. Love this vendor at the Walnut Creek Certified Farmers' Market! Not only do they serve up Fair Trade Organic Coffee Beverages, but they also have made to order healthy breakfast waffles. Customers have their choice of waffles, vegan or paleo and there are about 5 different waffle plates. I'll forewarn you if you're on a super tight budget, the waffles are $8 ea. but it's oh so worth it. I've only heard great things about their food. This past sunday I went to the Walnut Creek farmers' market, and ordered "the weekender" because I cannot have banana's, I asked to have the strawberries instead. The owner was kind and sweet enough to swap that fruit out! My waffle plate was a paleo waffle with dark chocolate and organic strawberries from the farmers' market, another plus since they're part of the farmers' market they use many of the fruits sold at the market. Meaning the fruits are organic and nongmo, AND they themselves are supporting local farmers. Pretty cool! I highly suggest you go early when the market opens, to get the waffle you want. Sometimes they sell out of one kind of waffle, like this time they only had paleo waffles left at 12:45 and the market closes at 2pm. read more
