If you'd asked me a few years ago to review this place, I'd give it a single star (by force). Everyone who ate off the buffet fell ill and that's a pretty big no-no for a sushi restaurant. Then I came back for a second try - perhaps to tempt fate? - this past year and it's vastly improved. It's not the world's best sushi, but it's certainly not the worst. They also get very creative, which is something I love. This isn't Japan, so I don't care if it's the most authentic sushi joint in America. If I wanted authentic sushi, I'd book a ticket to Japan! While the buffet is not my favorite thing here, I do love the $1 teriyaki rice balls and the cheap miso soups and salads. The various rolls have mostly been great, though a few were simply too weird for me. The reason for the three stars is that while it's dirt cheap to eat here, it's not always the highest quality and the sushi isn't always prepped correctly (cut wrong). Still, for the price you can't really beat it. If you want simple rolls, you're looking at a couple bucks for 3 maki. Not too shabby! I came here dressed up for Halloween and scored a gift certificate, plus the staff was all dressed up in their costume best. Not gonna be the best sushi you've ever had but it has its place. I've been here quite a times over the years and I must say they do serve up some pretty delicious sushi rolls. The sashimi isn't half bad either. It might not be up to par for some sushi snobs but when I am craving some good rolls at a decent price, Ru Sans is high on my list. It gets pretty crouded and VERY loud at times which can be a bit annoying if you are trying to have a conversation. It isn't so bad that it is a deal breaker for me but keep it in mind if you tend to dislike loud restaurants. The service here is excellent. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. So let me just say, if you are a sushi connoisseur, this may not be your fave sushi spot! I think this spot is better known for its inexpensive rolls, their happy hour, and in my opinion their salmon fried rice! Ru sans is my go to for rolls and drinks! For some reason, sushi buffets in ATL seem to come and go. Several restaurants I used to frequent having sushi buffets have closed shop. But, Rusans is one constant that I'm thankful for. It's hard to beat their $11 sushi buffet. There's usually about 8 nigiri to choose from along with a about a dozen different roles, "firecracker" being one of my favorites. Quite a disappointment. The only thing good was the politeness of our server. This is not the same RuSans that I loved in Charlotte. The sushi was sub par and the overall lack of cleanliness and disorganization in the restaurant made me look forward to finishing my meal and leaving. Stumbled upon this place when my friend decided they knew the directions off the top of their head versus GPS to " Ra Sushi " lol. This was most certainly not Ra. To think I was actually irritated when I realized I had been directed to the wrong place. Diamond in the rough, they were actually having a mini buffet when we got there. $13.50 a person plus I had a large house saki Apple flavor. They had plenty of vegetarian options which was awesome! I was happy to be able to see them making the sushi for the buffet in the same area they were making sushi to order. This isn't a white table cloth 5 star sushi spot but it a good bang for your buck and I'll definitely be back. read more

My go to for delicious and cheap sushi. I LOVE Ru San's. I've been going here since my sophomore year in college which was like 2012. They have a few locations but none of them ever disappoint. Such a wide variety of sushi's but so many other dishes. Their menu is huge...only reason why I didn't take pictures. They have fried rice, sashimi, seafood entrees etc. The amount of food they have on their menu is slightly overwhelming but no big deal. Specifically at this location we've had this amazing server twice and she remembered us. Now I used to be a server so idk if she was just being nice and acting like she remembered us but idc she was great lol don't remember her name though but she's a brunette with a cute world tattoo on her arm lol. This time around I got the dynamite seafood roll which was amazing. I wish it came with more but I was satisfied once I had some of my boyfriends house fried rice, also equally as delicious. Starting this thing off by saying I have never left a negative review before in my life. I have been a frequent patron of Rusans Buckhead since Fall of 2010 when I started undergrad. As the years went by, Rusans was always the place to celebrate returning to school, leaving school, birthdays, post sorority chapter meetings, and everything in between. Never had a complaint. How can you hate on cheap sushi that actually tastes delicious? Fast forward to today when I was in the area running work errands. "OH MY GOD, I'm by Rusans! I'm going to pick up a to go order since I'm hardly ever in the area anymore." I walk in to a very busy, and very understaffed restaurant. I wait in line at the host stand and when it's my turn I'm asked by the very tall Asian man who wears the black chef hat how many people. Y'all know who I'm talking about. He's always the life of the party when it's time to sing Happy Birthday at someone's table. I tell him I'm just here to place a to go order, and with a flick of his hand he dismisses me and says, "No to go orders. Next!" I go around him and the people waiting in line and approach a server. I ask her if it's possible to place a to go order, and she says it is, I just need to give her a minute. I say of course, because again, it was so clear how busy and how understaffed they were at the moment. I'm standing off to the side out of the way, and I see that man who once brought so much joy to my life approach the server I had spoken to and tell her, "You are not taking to go orders." I look at him. I look at her. And I walk out. I WAS BEING PATIENT! I WAS WILLING TO WAIT! I WAS OUT OF EVERYONE'S WAY! I understand I would have taken up the server's time for a whole two minutes while she took down my order and gave it to the cooks, but that's it. She didn't need to check up on me, she didn't need to refill my drink, she didn't need to drop off a check then wait for me to find my card in my ridiculously messy purse then take it back to the front and bring it back for me to sign. If I'm missing something here someone please enlighten me, because Rusans just broke my heart more than any man every could. read more

Ru San's used to be one of my favorite sushi spots years ago. I cannot say that now. It has really gone down. The cleanliness and the interior of the restaurant to be specific. The walls and floors were dirty with no Eagerness from the staff to even sweep after wiping off the mess from the tables unto the floor. I don't even know how to begin this review. Aside from the food (which I will get to momentarily), all else in this restaurant is "meh". The venue is not dirty, but it's not clean. It's not appealing, but not appalling. Servers/Service isn't friendly, but it isn't rude. Just "meh". As for the food, I tried the "Combo A", which is inclusive of california rolls, sashimi, sushi, tempura, miso soup, salad, and a crab cake. Shame on me for hitting up a Japanese place in Atlanta, and further shame on me for ordering sushi there. Words cannot describe how awful the food was. Let me start with the miso and salad, which come out first before your main course. The miso has old, stale noodles in it (which I assume is because they sell "noodles in miso" and pass it off as the "shoyu ramen" on their menu). The soup has an unclean scent to it, and it is overall unpleasant. The salad is your par for the course sesame oil-based dressing that you get at teriyaki restaurants. However, it is obvious that the salad is not fresh (probably made in the morning, and served throughout the day all the way through dinner). The tempura and crab cakes are awful. I literally took one bite, and wanted nothing more to do with it. The crab cake is imitation crab mixed with mayo, and then deep fried. Honestly, don't ever get this. The tempura again tastes like the base ingredient (shrimp for the shrimp tempura, veggies for the veggie tempura, etc) are not fresh. The texture of the said ingredient makes this obvious. Limp, moist, and slimy. Now for the sushi... holy shit the sushi! First, just look at the color of what they call "salmon" "tuna" and "yellow tail". What fish is neon pink, hot orange, and pastel white in their natural state? Second, just like the rest of their menu, the sushi here is not fresh. Everything smells very fishy (like an uncleaned fisherman's tool box, if you will), and the texture is vomit inducing. Calling what they serve here "sushi" is like sbarro pizza "genuine gourmet italian cuisine". the only difference there is, at least sbarro is actually pizza. Awful place, complete waste of the $24 that my combo cost, and definitely never coming here again. read more

I visited Ru San's on my lunch from work at the local office because I had an inkling for sushi. The lunch was a buffet style, which I found to be interesting to serve with sushi. A lot of the food was pretty fresh and for the delivery method considered (buffet style), the sushi was pretty fresh. This is within walking distance of many of the office buildings around, and with their large amount of seating, there is not a wait during lunch and service was quick. Easily doable within a 1 hour lunch. If you work locally and have an inkling for a quick sushi, this wouldn't be a bad place; however, I wouldn't go out of the way to come here. read more

If i could give zero stars I would. They are seriously serving dog food rolled in overdone rice. We did the "buffet" and everything on it was terrible and had been sitting for at least 4 hours. We had one bite and decided it was time to leave. We tried to talk to the manager but she was very rude, as was the male chef who came out to chase us like we were trying to steal the dog food; the audacity. Coming here was actually a mistake; we meant to go to the one in midtown, but since we were already there, we decided to stay. That was a very poor decision on our part. I should've left after I seen how unsanitary everything was (the walls had soy sauce splats over them and overall just dirty), but once again, poor decision maker. Poor customer service. So there are many rusans around the Atlanta area. I prefer this one. It's such a nice chill spot to sit outside or inside and good for big parties. There's lots of tvs, so if you want to hang out and drink saki bombs, you can. You park in the parking deck behind it. It's the parking deck with the big green park sign. If you park at the very top, you can just walk up the stairs to rusans. Everyone is very friendly and service is usually good. During lunch they have a great buffet with different sushi, chicken, steak, and traditional Asian dishes. For dinner I like to get the Japanese Bagel or the rising sun. The rolls average 8-10 dollars and are great portion size. Always super delicious. We had Hsun as our server and he was super attentive. It can get a little loud on a Friday or Saturday night so if that isn't your cup of tea, keep it pushing! There's a Starbucks across the street, movie theater behind it, and a twin peaks to the right if you want after activities. They validate parking, so hit it up! read more

He was holding our glasses at the top (where your mouth goes) and brought our plates with his thumbs ON the plates and wasnt even wearing gloves. Extremely unsanitary. I went on the adventure of my life tonight... a literal almost 3 hour trek on MARTA in total (there and back home again) just to meet a date here for dinner. Was it worth it? Yes. Yes it was. The date was ok, but the food... the service... worth every freezing minute waiting for the train. Not surprising, being in Buckhead, Ru San's is an upper end Sushi and Seafood bar, so they have higher prices than some of the others I've been to. But they can charge that much and keep a solid customer base because their food is really that good. So how was service, you ask? It was fantastic. We had a highly attentive Asian waiter (cute too). He kept an eye on the table, but kept a comfortable distance most of the time. At one point walking by when we had 3 piece of sushi left and saying happily, "you're almost there!" He gave us the check in timely manner, which I have an appreciation for, and asked us if we needed parking validation for the parking deck. All in all, I'm very pleased with both the food and the service. My only complaint about this restaurant is that the tables in the center are placed so close together that its almost impossible to get around them. read more

Three employees quickly run up to us saying the buffet is about to be broken down for the day but we could finish making our ONE plate for the full $13....no thank you, strike one. I ordered a Seattle Ichi Roll - which was different than expected (first timer!) but overall I really liked it. Very good mashup of ingredients to make a very tasty roll. I also ordered the chicken yakisoba. This was not good. I spoke to the manager about it and the explanation is they know it's not traditional yakisoba - but it's the 20 year old recipe that hasn't changed. She said they get a lot of complaints about it. I have frequent the Ru Sans down town and have gotten excellent service and felt safe to place an order via uber eats to the location in Kennesaw.However the service was extremely awful. I offered to return the food for a refund however was told that I am stuck with it..This is America and I always believe as a consumer i have the reght to a refund.. Can I give 3.5 stars, is that possible? I ventured in here around 8, 9:00 pm on a Saturday. I felt like I was at a night club that just happened to serve sushi. High energy, sake bomb-drinking (pounding) younger crowd. Blaring music. Servers wearing tees that say "Got Sushi?" across the front. Sushi chef singing happy birthday to patrons, then pounding on the table with knives, so loudly at one point I considered popping some ibuprofen for the almost guaranteed migraine that was going to ensue. That being said, the people-watching was great. I'm not a sushi snob, and the sushi barely stayed together long enough to make it into my mouth, but it was tasty enough. Bonus, the "plum blossom" cocktail, which basically seemed like a Japanese martini, had me feeling pretty good. (To the point the crazy atmosphere didn't make much difference). In summary, not a special occasion or cozy date night place to dine for sushi, but maybe a fun and slightly awkward place to meet up with friends or coworkers. read more
