They also have Yams and salads, asparagus, mashed potatoes and larger entree choices get two sides. I really like the Parmesan crusted halibut. I visited this steak house 5 months ago and at that time it was marginal at the best. I brought my daughters and there friend for dinner. The waiter was friendly. When the waiter brought our order and i noticed that my order was wrong, i got a bad feeling. I ordered the ribs without sauce. Well. They came with sauce all over the place. I noticed my daughters Filet was patch together. It didn't even look like a Filet. I didnt want to spoil the family visit. The waiter took my plate back for them to fix. My daughter ordered her steak Medium Well, plus brocolli with butter. Well, her steak was between Rare and Medium Rare and her brocolli was plain. Then my other daughter cut her Filet and she wanted Medium rare. Her Filet was purple in the middle. It was beyond Rare. This is 3 out of 4. I was disgusted with how the dinner is turning out. I contacted the Manager and informed him how terrible things are turning out. I was so upset that i couldn't finish my dinner. Again, i didnt want to create a scene. The waiter came back with the bill. He said the manager gave us a discount. It was $20. I've cooked with some of the best Cheffs in the business and this food was a mess. If you call yourself a Steakhouse and you can't even cook your steaks correctly then you need to change your name. They pride themselves for there steaks and how they hand slice there steaks on the premises. The last 3 times i ordered Ribeye steaks I couldn't tell it was a Ribeye. Now my daughter orders a Filet and it looked like it was patched together to look like a piece of meat. When the waiter brought the steaks back to my daughter's i was speechless on how bad it looked. The manager never came back to talk to us. I paid my bill. $104.00. At least the manager should of weighed out how bad things were, before just giving us $20 off. We have our work Christmas Party here annually. I made a reservation for our party months in advance. When the manager, Todd, called to confirm our reservation, I asked if we could have the private tables behind the wall, but he said that room was spoken for already, but he had our tables set in the middle of the dining room. I thought that was okay since they put a few tables end to end for us in that same spot the year prior. When we arrived though, he had us situated at 2 separate tables. How can you have a company Christmas party and be seated in 2 separate rows of tables? When we asked Todd why we couldn't all sit together he was less than accommodating. Rude in fact. When we asked why they didn't save the back room for our large party, where they normally seat us all, he stated the other company called first. And when we reminded him how long we have been coming there, he said the other company has been coming longer. Todd just wanted to argue every point we made and not do anything to appease the situation, no apology, or attempt to care. If they cannot accommodate a party this size, they shouldn't have taken our reservation, and he certainly shouldn't have been so rude. After being there for awhile trying to get the seating arrangement fixed, the party that was in the back room left and our server Justin moved us all to that back room where we were all able to finally sit together and have our meal. We will not be coming back next year, as Todd clearly does not appreciate or care for our patronage. I have to say it! I love this place!! The atmosphere is alive! I love the different instruments and all the different boots all over this place. I cannot say everything they make is awesome, but I know that the ribeye steak, twice dipped sweet potatoes, and vegetables are all delicious! I've had them at least three times, same thing! The draft beers are cold and delicious! I love checking out their seasonals. I have not had any bad experiences anytime I have been here. If you go, you better take your appetite! The portions are huge! They are attentive, and actually care about you! Our servers always check on us several times, and always ask if you have room for dessert! If I could put zero stars I would. My husband and I went here about a week ago to finish a difficult week off with a good note. When we have visited in the past, the food was great and the service was amazing. This time, the service was terrible and the food was less than poor. We were crammed into a small area with every other table full in the same area. We had to wait ten minutes before the server even came to take our drink order. The table next to us was so close we had to move chairs to make room for them. We ordered an appetizer of cheese fries, a ribeye steak with salad and side, and a top round steak with grilled shrimp with salad and side as well. We also ordered two iced teas to drink. The fries came out over crispy and over cooked to the point we could not separate them for us to eat. The salads came out next on almost frozen plates (not bad, just cold). Then we waited for our steaks which we ordered mid-rare for both. My steak came out almost well-done and the shrimp were so overcooked that I could bounce them off the table, and the broccoli had no flavor to speak of. My husband's steak came out super thin and was more on the medium temp, so it was a little better. We had to flag down the server to tell her that everything was overcooked, and all we received back was a shoulder shrug and "Oh". My husband offered to pay for his and asked them to take my steak off the ticket. After about fifteen minutes, the server brought us the ticket and asked if there was anything else we needed. We asked for two boxes to take the fries and the broccoli with my husband's steak home. When the server brought the single box over they asked if we were ready to pay. We paid for the food and walked to the front of the restaurant. In the front the staff was playing with a guitar and completely unaware of the fact we were there. My husband interrupted their playing to ask to speak with a manager. We waited an additional 15 minutes to speak with a manger about our experience. The manager responded by saying he was too busy to come meet us at the table and address the situation. He did not offer an additional apology or recognition for our experience. When we were originally seated, we were crammed into a section with all other patrons which took up six tables total (I am not sure what made the manager too busy to correct a bad situation). Our total bill (less my steak) came out to $63.42 for a ribeye steak and sides, cheese fries, and two iced teas. I will not be going back anytime soon, and I would recommend to anyone looking for a good steak house to visit the Texas Roadhouse or Outback Steak House DO NOT go to Ruby River if you want edible food. read more

We had a reservation for a large party, we were on time and were whisked right to our table. Most of us did not enjoy our food and the waiter begged to let us have it remade or replaced, we declined because we had zero faith that a suitable replacement was possible. First off, salads served before appetizer, next soups came after lukewarm. Next thing we know our dinners are being served! Timing was really bad. Food. Prime rib was splattered on plate. Looked like a kid threw it on there. Asparagus was last nights reheated, waterlogged and light green. Fish was over cooked. Another steak was served Medium well and not Medium rare. Plates were cold ( sat in the kitchen ) and the other plates served about 10 minutes later. The other guests either left their plates full or took home the leftovers. Dessert. Ordered creme brûlée with raspberry. We were surprised to canned raspberry sauce. Unappetizing... The kitchen. Was the chef off tonight? My daughter enjoyed the seafood linguine, heavy cream sauce and a good quantity of seafood. My husband had the t-bone and said it was also very good. (I know our dog enjoyed the bone when we got home!). He had the mushrooms and they were exceptional and enough to share with me. The food was good and up to standards. The server Mike was alright. I feel that where my husband and I were sat was more or less the "forgotten zone." He was good about getting our food to us in a somewhat timely manner. As we waited for our food between the appetizers, my husband and I took notice that Ruby River wasn't the excellent restaurant that it used to be. As we sat there, we noticed that the restaurant was in dire need of a cleaning. As we looked around, we noticed all of their decor was covered in dust/dust "bunnies" everywhere, thanking God that we didn't sit under any of the lights as they were inundated with spider webs and only hoping that the dust or insects didn't get onto our food. I am deeply saddened that they no longer have the Alaskan King Crab legs. For a birthday dinner, I looked forward to having them and was disappointed and had to settle on something else. I used to go to Ruby River quite often in previous years, but I see now why I don't go as much. I hope the GM reads this review and plans to clean up the restaurant to higher standards. I went here for a birthday party a few years ago and found many parts of it appealing. The food was pretty good with generous portions. The wait staff handled us pretty well despite the large group. There's a bar at the side of things so you could sneak off to grab shots if the group is boring or you're not. All in all, seemed like a pretty darn solid place. Well, I tried something with it on my birthday last year on a Friday (mid Hot August Nights) and it did not go well. I called about a week ago prior to attempt to make a reservarion and the phone message said that you can't make reservations, but you can check in 30 minutes prior to arrival and and see what the wait is. Sounds okay, so I planned to go in early to help get my party started. I did as instructed and when I got there was told it was a nice, long possibly 2 hour wait. I explained how betrayed I felt by the phone message and asked to speak with a manager. The manager on duty at the time was young and decently nice, but not much help. I was essentially told that I was in error by not calling earlier in the day to do some sort of faux same day reservation or something. Maybe it's been fixed since then, but the incongruity between phone message and the real world expectation was joghly disappointing and really messed with my birthday celebration. I expect better, particularly during crazy busy times. Food is still good. Drinks aren't cheap. I may not go back anytime soon and sure as hell am not going during Hot August Nights time since it appears that's the favorite restaurant of those folks. read more

My grandparents frequent Ruby River and said they LOVE the food, atmosphere and service and that you can't beat the prices. I may have gone in with higher expectations due to their "raving" reviews. We went on a Thursday evening and it seemed to be pretty steady. There was approximately a 5 minute wait and a decent spread out of people/tables. We were almost instantaneously greeted by the host who took our drink orders and offered appetizers. Although our waitress had an overall nice demeanor, she did seem a little off putting when we asked questions regarding the menu. We had never been to this restaurant before and some of the descriptions outside of my picture to include some of the sides weren't very clear. Example - the soup said "homemade soup" but not what kind.. jacket baked potato (how would I know that means a deep fried baked potato?) to name a few. Like I said, she was friendly, but definitely seemed confused when we were asking and almost made it seem like we were incompetent to ask some of the questions. Our food came to the table fairly quickly. My husband ordered the bacon wrapped filet with French fries and garlic mashed potatoes and I ordered the 10 ounce Top Sirloin with onion strings, wedge salad and garlic mashed potatoes. Although my picture looks delicious.. my steak was incredibly thin and due to how thin it was, it was unfortunately over cooked for my liking. The garlic mashed potatoes were just ok in my opinion. I didn't finish them as I wasn't impressed and wouldn't choose to order them again. Although, hard to mess up, my wedge salad was delicious. The salad tasted extremely fresh and was served on a chilled plate with a chilled fork which was great! My husbands bacon wrapped filet was thicker, cooked better and much more edible, but still not the best we've had and especially for the price. Maybe it should've gone without being said, but you couldn't see a skewer in the filet from the outside and until you started attempting to cut into the filet you would have no idea.. not the end of the world, just a side note as it did make it harder to cut the steak and it didn't want to come out easily. They bring the entrees out on regular plates that are sitting on black plates that I would assume are used to keep the entrees warm however they really hurt more than they help. You go to cut your steak or grab a bite of something on your plate and the whole plate slides everywhere causing food to fly off (even if you're holding the side of the plate its not very stable.) We decided to forgo the black under plate. The French fries were the best thing besides the bread you eat while you're waiting. They taste like the good ole fashion hand battered fries. The margarita had great flavor, but severely under blended and kept getting caught in the straw and when you'd drink from the side of the glass you'd get flavored ice chunks. Our waitress was presently un-present for lack of better words. She checked in a lot prior to entrees and checked in again when we were about 3/4 of the way done with our meal. With the times we were waiting in between entrees being delivered and being checked in on, it was too long to be able to present being unsatisfied with the cook of my steak etc, yet I do feel that had we been able or said something she would have fixed it as she seemed nice and efficient. Like I said, I may have went in with high expectations after hearing how "amazing this place is", but I just didn't get that experience that everyone was raving about. Seemed very inconsistent and a hit or miss and as of right now, unfortunately, we dont plan on going back. But I do think its worth giving it a shot of your own.. you may get that 5 star experience and I've hear the food is hit or miss so you may get your meal and service spot on? read more

Ruby River has been our favorite dinner place in Reno for years. We have recommended it to many people. Unfortunately, the quality of the food, and especially the meat, seems to be on a downhill slide. The last few times we were there the prime rib and the rib eye steak were very chewy and full of gristle. I'm a tough grade, btw. Wife & I arrived ~1710 hours and were immediately seated. On Wednesdays, the Ruby River opens at 1600. The location is easy to drive to with the major cross-street of Moana, which is an exit off the freeway. There's a lot of parking, which is shared by some other businesses. Wife ordered a 16 oz. rib eye; I ordered a 30 oz. prime rib; our 2 sides each were broccoli, asparagus; mushrooms, and a wedge salad. The meat was very flavorful with no complaints. Horseradish was served shredded with sour cream on the side; essentially, it's homemade horseradish rather than a preprepared horseradish sauce out-of-a-jar. French bread & butter was also included. I like the atmosphere which had guitars mounted on the wall and cowboy boots (secured down) lined up around the restaurant. Prices are an affordable medium. This won't be one of those $200/person venues I'm glad to say. There was no room for dessert as I ate my entire 30 oz. prime rib. read more

Was attending the event at the Peppermill resort and the restaurant is conveniently located just across the street from it. We had fried calamari for an appetizer - nicely crispy but fried on the heavy side, served with the sauce which resembled ketchup the most. I had gorgonzola crusted New York strip which was very nicely done, at a medium rare plus as I requested, juicy and tasty. Ruby River Steakhouse is a great place to EAT MEAT! Yeah, I am a fan on this place. I have been here a few times and I could have sworn I have done a review of this place before. All the times I have been here my experience has been good. Needless to say I am fat and happy right now hehe. Before we got there we called ahead to see if we could get a reservation but they don't do reservations. If you do decide to call you can save your spot in line for waiting on a table. So instead of going there and waiting for a table there they will save you a spot in line for a table if you call ahead. So we waited like 2-5 minutes tops for a table. When we were at the table our waitress was there in 5 minutes or so to get us drinks and bread. That is outstanding. Our waitress was great she was very accommodating and attentive to our needs. I even asked her where they got the calamari and the meat for the steaks. She said she would go ask and she gave me an honest answer. The calamari comes from China frozen but they taste pretty good. The steaks come from a farm in the Midwest. Let's just say she was on point. The food was good. I got rib-eye steak medium and it was delicious. It was just the way I liked it. You get 2 side dishes to go with your steak. They also have other items on the menu like seafood, pasta, burgers and more. The food has good flavoring not to much salt and it was seasoned correctly. Also when you ask for a medium done steak you get a medium done steak. The interior is decorated with a western cowboy theme. Which sets you in the mood for eating steak or just meat in general haha. The parking can be a bit crazy here because they do get quite a bit of return customs and locals here. People really dig this place so parking could be an issue if there are lots of people here. We were there on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. I'm sure I'm missing a few things but my experience here was good and we will definitely be coming back again. So today's our anniversary, my husband and I went here for dinner. When I received my filet mignon it was cut into weird. Never had that happen before but it's sketched me out for sure but the filet mignon was delicious. The broccoli was raw. Couldn't even eat it and the baked potato is okay.
