My first time here was about a year ago. It was super busy. The food was good but I was disappointed with the portions. The menu didn't seem to have changed much since that time. This time was a lot better. We were able to be seated as soon as we arrived. The staff was very accommodating. The portions were better too. We ordered beginets as a starter. They were actually very small in size. We also ordered the megas (an egg dish served over fried tortilla strips and a side of avocado slices), fried catfish and grits, shrimp and grits, a side order of chicken sausage, and a side biscuit. The biscuits are a good size but were very dry. The butter that was served with them made them better. The shrimp and grits would have been a much better presentation with several butterfly shrimp on top than the small shrimp mixed into the grits. We also had a couple of mocktails. Had to check this place out because it was highly recommended and it was my first stop once i got to the Airbnb. The place is very clean and nice with outdoor seating available as well as plenty of indoor. I opted to sit at the bar and ordered a watermelon pomegranate grande mimosa, recommended. I went with the peacemaker because you can combine any two bennies. I went with the st Charles and the shrimp Benny. The at Charles was good but needed a little hot sauce to kick it up a notch. The flavors on the shrimp were amazing and needed nothing extra. Make sure you get a to go drink because why not it's New Orleans after all ‍. We waited for TWO HOURS after being told our wait would be 30-45 minutes once we were officially added to the list at the hostess stand. Worst part was the hostess told us we were next and we had 5 more minutes then 15 more minutes when we asked again about 40 minutes later and we heard her tell everyone who asked for an update the exact same thing as us and that they were next. At the two hour mark, I checked back in with her and she blatantly ignored me. I know you can't always control how long people stay at a table but our place "in line" kept getting pushed back when we would check the app so I recommend making sure the software actually works properly. I wouldn't have been so upset but we had a diabetic with us so giving more accurate updates could have prevented the issues they had after we left. When we were finally notified that our table was ready 2 hours and 15 minutes after getting on the list, we were immediately "taken off the list" before we made it back to the hostess stand so that is when we decided to leave. This experience makes me sad because we really liked coming here when our family comes in town and they were very excited about it but we will never come back if we can't trust the wait times given. I know this can't always be controlled but the hostess could have been a little kinder about it or even escalated the matter when we hit the two hour mark. read more

This isn't my first time at a Ruby Slipper but it's my first time at this particular location. It's also my boyfriend's first time in New Orleans and this was our first stop after leaving the airport. The ONLY con were the flies. We sat outside on the covered turf area and as soon as we got our food the flies were around us heavily. I think because they lurk around tables that haven't been cleared yet. Our server Monica was great. She was patient, attentive, and gave great recommendations. And we were there for a few hours while we waited to check in to our air bnb. I'd also like to s/o the bartender for our boozy breakfast. I love mimosas (with a heavier ratio of champagne to juice) and mine didn't disappoint. I enjoyed the mimosa flight....the apple pie and pomegranate lavender were my favorite LS. Kudosssss to the chef and all the kitchen staff. I'm glad one of them specified the fried chicken option as being the standout, otherwise I could've stared at their menu for a while and not been confident in my choice Even with that information I found myself deciding between which to go for as a 2nd since you can split your order. The seasonal croque madame stood out with the coffee glazed applewood smoked ham and cheesy sauce. If you happen to visit when the croque madame is available I can't recommend it enough! It came across more maple bacony than I was expecting, but it had a great balance of sweet and smoky. The creamy cheese balanced it all out in the best way. While their biscuits weren't anything particularly special, they do get credit for using them instead of the far inferior English muffin To be honest the chicken one underwhelmed a little. I know they're targeting the more "traditional" southern style chicken that leans more on than breading than seasoning, but it came across a little bland by comparison to the croque madame. I found myself reaching for the hot sauce which greatly improved the experience. We took our friends from out of state here for their last breakfast in town. I loved that we could add ourselves to the waitlist as we headed there. Parking lot was full but it was easy to park on street and free as well. When we arrived, we checked in and picked outdoor seating. Everyone there seemed to be in good spirits, including all of the staff. Several people even brought their well behaved dogs and this didn't seem to be a problem. There were 7 at my table and our server was great. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. We all enjoyed ourselves and the food was good. The coffee drinkers at our table wished that their drinks were stronger. And I thought the biscuits weren't as good as usual which was dissapointing because I had really looked forward to them. The hubby and I took a couple of family members here for lunch. The food was much better than on our last visit. Service was also okay. It wasn't crowded and there was a nice atmosphere. Only issue was the volume of the personal conversations and chatting of the staff. They were near our table, which was across from the bar. The staff members congregated behind us and were extremely loud. Considering we were there with an 85 and a 90 year old, it was not ideal and really disrupted the nice atmosphere that we had been experiencing. After doing some research, this location seemed to be much less crowded than the one in French Quarters location that's a few blocks away *and* happened to be the relocated version of the original Ruby Slipper. While we were driving, we put ourselves on the waitlist via their website and were immediately seated as we arrived. We ordered: the loaded tots, the peacemaker (with chicken st. Charles & eggs cochon), white chocolate bread pudding pancakes, and the ruby mimosa. My husband's favorite was the loaded tots, and mine was the white chocolate bread pudding pancakes. You must get both!!! I'm not a huge pancake person, but I wanted to try a sweet menu item (while saving the beignets to have at Cafe du Monde) and this really hit the spot. They were super thick and fluffy, and the white chocolate morsels and the white chocolate syrup were just sweet enough to wake you up. Lack of knowledge as a server I think is one, and second with the attitude that was given, when we were dining in, is beyond rude and condescending. Server chef was rude, and forgot 4 different items! When I went to grab his attention, he responds with "what's up? I see you staring at me so what do you need?" While waiting for our table the host told us about the morning margarita, so that is what we all ordered. Like he said you only need one and we only had one lol. What our table of food consisted of was breakfast tacos, the southern breakfast, biscuits and gravy with a side of fried chicken, strawberry French toast, and 2 sandwiches. Everything was delicious. The grits were seasoned PERFECTLY you didn't need to add any salt sugar butter pepper cheese or whatever. The fried green tomatoes were super delicious and the breakfast taco was very fulfilling. The chicken was juicy and drenched in sauce and the sandwhiches.... No complaints at all. This was an all around perfect choice for breakfast new years day. We arrived early at 9am, so there was no wait. The parking was easy in their own lot and the outdoor space was really nice (though not being used today). The history of the restaurant and this specific location was interesting to read from our table. We started with a mimosa flight and Sugar Cookie latte - both were delicious! Our teen got (and devoured) the classic pancakes and we enjoyed his bacon. The avocado toast was so flavorful and filling, but I still added a biscuit just to try the house made cane sugar butter, totally worth it, so very very good. My wife got the Bayou Shrimp Bennie, also phenomenal. Our server Tracy was a delight and helped make it such a good experience. Only downside was uncomfortable chairs, but given how long a wait is typical here, they need tables to eat and get moving, so I definitely understand (still 5 stars). We have other plans for breakfast the next two days while we're here, but it's possible we will be back, it was that good!
